Brooklyn Bagel Bakery is a locally-owned and -operated, New York-style bagel shop that offers a variety of bagels, cream cheeses, sandwiches, and coffee. On good days, the NY Lox has a generous spread of cream cheese, sliced tomatoes, sliced red onions, beautiful slices of lox, and a generous helping of capers. The bagel has a nice little chew with a crisp exterior, but other times, it can just be super chewy. The toasted Jalapeno Cheddar bagel with chives cream cheese sometimes can be tasty, with the spiciness from the bagel; however, the chives cream cheese is droopy and watered down, and the last few visits, the bagel was quite underwhelming in taste. I ate half for breakfast. The rest for lunch. The place was clean. Speedy process when I went just after 8 am. Now you can't use a card unless over 10.00. This place is a community fixture, if you go on a weekend morning, you can expect long quick moving lines, limited seating and the fast pace feel of a busy NY style deli. I got the bagel sandwich with egg, cheese, and bacon on sundried tomato bagel, Aubs got tomato and cream cheese on a whole wheat bagel. The egg was a generous size, the cheese was a kraft single equivalent and the bacon was plentiful enough that it appeared in every bite. I've gotten this before and I would get it again. Aubs enjoyed her sandwich as well, the portions were adequate, the bagel was not as soft as she would have liked. Bottom line, this place delivered and met our exceptions, no wow factor but a good experience none the less. read more

I was recently staying in area for a few nights on trip to DC area, and came here every morning to pick up breakfast for my family. As a native New Yorker, I was highly skeptical of a place called "Brooklyn Bagels", as it is extremely difficult to obtain a decent bagel outside of NYC. To my surprise, the bagels were extremely good! Over course of few days my family and I had different selections: salt, sunflower, blueberry, French toast, chocolate chip - all incredibly delicious! Staff here is hustling away making breakfast orders, and they are very prompt with taking your order as soon as you walk in. My only issue here was inflated price for getting bagel with cream cheese on it. Regular bagel was $1.65 and with cream cheese was $3.75, which seems a bit pricey in my opinion. Half way through our trip I ended up taking a stroll to Target on Wilson (about 1/2 mile east down Wilson) and picked up an 8 ounce cream cheese for little over $2.00 - this carried us through the last 2 days of our trip. i am so surprised that thus place only has 3.5 stars! I definitely give this place a good solid 4! 1. the bagels are delicious, chewy and the sandwiches hit the spot for sure 2. Price point is the best! Considering its in the heart of arlington, for two people, two huge bottles of water, two coffees, two bagel sammies, was about $22! Brooklyn Bagel Bakery is the place you go to after a long night and want to have a simple, quick to-go breakfast. They do offer some select seating inside and out, but most guests grab-n-go. I ordered what I always order at a bagel/sandwich shop. An everything bagel with bacon, egg and cheese. After a few minutes, my order was up and I sat outside to take a bite of my freshly made sandwich. My sandwich had a little too much chunky bacon, not enough egg, and a slab of American cheese (my least favorite). Overall, was it good? It was okay. Like my rating, three stars is exactly what it deserves. I didn't hate it but it wasn't impressive. The everything bagel (my favorite) was kind of tough and bland, and it didn't leave me wanting more. This is the best bagel place on the planet. They have a cream cheese selection to die for. The light cream cheese is amazing. I get the veggie light for my everything and garlic bagels. The NYC Lox is one of my favorites. They do it right with salmon. Capers, red onions with a thin skice of tomato. It's so filling I eat half and save the rest for the next day. When taking out I always get one cinnamon to satisfy my sweet craving. They prefer cash. Currently (Feb 2023) there is a temporary issue with parking due to new construction across the street but there's a big lot in the back. I've been coming here for almost a decade now and absolutely love it. Great staff, fantastic food, etc... The only reason I'm giving 2 stars is that one of their new employees today was refusing to wear his mask over his nose. Everyone else was properly covered but I had to remind him twice to pull the mask up. I then went to pay, looked back and saw he was preparing my food again, with it only over his mouth. It didn't surprise me when I later found the bagels weren't toasted and he had forgotten the ham in my breakfast sandwich. I will absolutely revise my rating once this guy gets sorted out. Been coming here for 2 years, great bagels but they keep raising the prices to where it's not much of a value play. I've ordered the generally the same thing: a sausage, egg, cheese on a bagel with a large iced coffee and these are the costs after taxes. May 2021: $9.45 May 2022: $10.28 April 2023: $11.28 Since January 2023 I've noticed that quality dropped a tad. Eh it's pretty good bagels but they require a takeout minimum of $10, which I think is outrageous. I usually only buy bagels and maybe cream cheese because I like to make my own breakfast sandwiches at home. After waiting in the chaotic line, I'm told I needed to buy at leas 4 bagels and a tub of cream cheese to meet their minimum. Sounds like extortion. Love the bagels and sandwiches here! The bagels are some of the best I've found in the DMV area. They have the perfect amount of chew without being tough. All the different flavors are delicious too, although I prefer the savory types over the sweet ones. I think the chocolate chip and cinnamon raisin bagels tend to lack flavor. They now have online ordering with a $10 minimum purchase required. So far, my online orders have always been ready within the promised timeframe and always have the items I ordered. However, sometimes my bagel isn't toasted even though I selected the toasted option in my order. Everyone there wears masks. They have hand sanitizer and also a box of Kleenex on the door so that you don't have to touch the handle directly. *This place only accepts cash!* I hate places that don't accept just as much as places that ONLY accept cash. I find it to be super annoying because I'm sure plenty of people have been caught off-guard by this (my sister being one of them). Otherwise, Brooklyn Bagels is the epitome of satisfactory. Their lox and cream cheese bagel totally hit the spot for me after yoga, but it didn't wow me. Their pizza is displayed behind a glass pane which you can see right when you walk in, but it looked dried out. If you're going to leave your pizza sitting out, at least have heat lamps on them or something to create an illusion of freshness. Their menu is extensive, so it seems to be a great lunch option for people in the area. If you really have no idea what to get, pop in here and gaze at all the bagel and sandwich options. I got the feeling that a meatball sub here would be pretty good, but that's not based on any first-hand experience. I loved their spiced chai! It was insanely hot, but that's the way I like it since I nurse those babies for as long as possible. It was creamy and comforting on a rainy afternoon. Bagels are good and love the ordering online for pick up. But for the 3rd time the owner was unappreciative/brusque or downright surly while picking up. I'd much rather deal with his staff and am frankly tired of spending money where the proprietor treats customers as if he doesn't care. This time I wanted to pick up 2 oj's in addition to my $25 online order and was told dismissively that I had to have cash bc have to spend minimum $15 to use my card. Had no cash on me so no OJ despite having already spent $25. I paid extra to have bagels sliced and only half of them were sliced. And prices have increased to point that 6 sliced bagel and one cream cheese is $20. Plus all the street parking has been removed close by. Not the business' fault but it's the final push to find a new local bagel store, one that seems happy to have people in it. A smile and "thank you" go a long way and are free. read more

I was craving a bagel and lox. Badly. So this place seemed like a good bet. I had read the previous reviews about issues with incorrect orders, and the suggestions that one order as clearly as possible to potentially avoid similar problems, so when I stepped up to the counter I thought I was ready. I spoke directly and quite clearly, IMO, as I requested a plain bagel with cream cheese, lox and capers. The man behind the counter nodded and said "cream cheese and capers. No lox?" Hmm. I shook my head and responded, "Lox, yes. I definitely want lox. I would like Lox, cream cheese, and capers please." He nodded and asked, "tomatoes?" I said "no tomatoes. Just lox, cream cheese and capers." He nodded again. "Got it." He then prepared my order behind the tall counter. I couldn't see what he was making, but there was no one else in line to distract or divert his attention. I thought all was good. Once outside, I opened the bag and saw that I had indeed received lox, cream cheese and capers...AND tomatoes and red onions!?!? Seriously? I honestly don't know how I could have been clearer. Perhaps I could have added, "No tomatoes, for real. AND no red onions either, in case you're thinking I want those and just forgot to mention them." But given the clearly unauthorized tomato inclusion, I don't think that would have helped. I requested it one way. He just made it his way. Very strange. But at least I got everything I DID want... Plus a bit extra. Once I removed the extraneous tomatoes and onions, all was fine. Nothing groundbreaking, but perfectly good for a basic bagel and lox. If that's what you're in the mood for, it's one of the better options out of the few in the area. And if you like tomatoes and onions, it's an even better option. Ultimate joke of an establishment. The bagels are OK, but the customer service and just general apathetic, nickel and dime attitude of the whole place is off-putting. Funny story: I ordered three bagels and three coffees. I pulled my credit card out, and she says it's cash only. I said "forget it I don't have cash," and then MAGICALLY, she was able to accept my credit card. Such a scam. It's also worth noting that they have no signage indicating it's cash only. I paid 50 cents extra for almond milk, and they gave me this disgusting almond water garbage that was definitely NOT almond milk. They also use Crest Toothpaste advertisements on their coffee sleeves. You guys really that cheap you can't pay for normal coffee sleeves? I don't wanna advertise Crest all day on my coffee. I placed on a online order for a dozen bagels , steak n cheese , crumb cake and a Oreo brownie. The steak n cheese was pretty good, but i felt like it was missing something. Maybe some extra seasoning but I would try it again. I loved e cream cheese crumb cake, it was soft and i think the cream cheese and layer of crumb were perfectly balanced. The bagels were great, some of my favorites were the sundried tomato , garlic and onion one. They had ran out of french toast or asiago one when I placed my order at lunch time. The oreo brownie was a disappointment, it had white layer. Not sure if that was supposed to be cream cheese or a creme layer. Over approximately the last six months we have made it a Saturday morning ritual to go to Brooklyn Bagel Bakery and pick up some bagels for breakfast. Though in the past the bagels have been somewhat satisfying the customer service has always been terrible. We shrugged off the rude customer service by justifying the satisfaction that we had from the bagels. However, the last two times we have gone there we were disappointed with the quality of food; most notably this last time (today). We ordered an egg, cheese, and meat bagel and nothing about it was correct (Order #6122481). I ordered utilizing their online ordering system. Specifically I ordered a plain toasted bagel with Gouda cheese, sausage, and jalapeño. What I received was a garlicky everything bagel, no cheese, and no jalapeños. Due to a food sensitivity the person who had requested this bagel could not eat their breakfast. I attempted to call the bakery for approximately 15 minutes; calling, getting no answer, than hanging up, and then attempting to call again. Eventually I was able to leave a voicemail message , I also responded to their survey and used the contact us option on their website. It has been three hours and I haven't heard anything back. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and assume that they're just too busy to listen to the voicemail at this moment and to be fair most businesses take approximately 24 hours to get back to you. Unfortunately this was the last straw. The bagels are decent at best, the customer service is horrible, and obviously their phones are useless, so we just don't see the point of returning. So we're open to any suggestions for another bagel place. Update: Dawn called from the bakery and apologized for the issue. She said we received the wrong sandwich and that the cashier was supposed to request that we open the bag and review our order prior to leaving. This is not something I have ever been asked to do when picking up my order. We will be getting a refund for the sandwich. read more

The line was do the door, but definitely moved very fast. About $4.75 for a meat, egg and cheese specialty bagel, which I thought was pretty good, the bacon here is pretty thin, so I would skip that and go with sausage. The sausage egg and cheese cinnamon resin bagel was the best. We also tried BEC on jalapeño cheddar bagel which was about a 3 out of 5. Reuben sandwiches are my guilty pleasure (one of several), so I got one at this Brooklyn-style deli for breakfast to see how it measures up. Not bad. I've obviously had better at home in New York, so I wasn't blown away, but I wasn't disappointed. Good substitute when you want that Reuben corn beef. Also got the mango smoothie, and that was watery and sugary and obviously had no mango in it. Just tasted fake. There's a line on weekend mornings, so service tends to be a bit slow. Double Garlic Bagel = Garlic bagel & garlic cream cheese spread Not overpowering on taste or smell, reminds you of a zesty pizza dough. They don't skimp on the smoked salmon like plenty of other places try to. Of course we had to try to French Toast Bagel, bring your best maple syrup and enjoy! Great bagels. I'm from NYC and these bagels are definitely on par with NYC. I highly recommend you order online in advanced in the weekend. They don't accept phone call orders. You have to do it online but its totally worth it. The weekend lines are long so you are better off placing in in advance. During the week the lines aren't long. I've had bagels with cream cheese and bagels with meat, egg and cheese. All is good here. You can't go wrong! read more
