I ordered a turkey bacon, egg, and cheese on a sesame bagel and a cup of fruit (only to make the 10 dollar minimum). The bagel was fine, nothing spectacular but good for the DMV. My issue was with the fruit cup. I was about a quarter through the cup when I saw that a grape had mold on it. The reason for 4 stars though it's nothing majorly special is the fact that they don't put too much spread on the bagels! Often times, I find half of the contents placed between the slices fall out. I came here with my friends after the DC Sakura Matsuri festival & it was still busy even though it was 1:30 PM on a Sunday. we bought a dozen & split it between the three of us (4 each). the man was nice enough to give us an extra 2 paper bags for us to put our bagels into. I personally got two poppy seed bagels & two sesame seed bagels. with some strawberry cream cheese 'cause my daughter would eat that as is. delicious, soft chewy bagels. I always bag my bagels when I get home & they were still good for the next few days. This is the best bagel in Arlington/DC. Bullfrog might be close. Bethesda, Call Your Mother, even Chewish Deli in Alexandria can't really compete. I'm sorry. It's chewy while still being fluffy. It's delicious. It's freaking cheap. And it is the only shop in the area that comes close to the hustle and bustle vibes of a NY bagel shop. Now the caveats. They are busy. They might not get everything right, probably because they have a billion bagel sandwich options. Honestly just skip the bagel sandwiches and just get the bagels. Buy a dozen, buy two dozen. If you're lucky enough to live near them like I do, buy one every day and make your own sandwich. The asiago bagel is close to heaven. It's so dang fluffy and has a beautiful layer of cheese grease that comes with all the asiago they bake onto it. This is the bagel you need in your life. This place is awesome - you can tell by the line. Most important thing to know is that it's cash only!! I felt a bit pressured the first time I went in because I was unsure of the system and there were so many people behind me. Overall though the staff is friendly enough although sometimes they are a bit more short than what I would normally like in a customer-service environment. The bagels are awesome, baked in-house, and you are able to customize your sandwich however you like. Predatory business practices give this place a 1 star, specifically the fact that they will only allow credit or debit payment with a minimum $10 order and mainly because they only inform you of this AFTER you have ordered and received your food. At a place where a bagel sandwich and coffee is less than $10 and would be a typical order this forces customers to buy more to get to $10 feeling obligated to do so since they have already ordered and received their food. I understand there is a cost to the merchant for credit card transactions. But in a worst case scenario on a $5 order this would be $0.25, and there is also a cost for depositing cash at most banks as well. It's a cost of doing business. If this were clearly marked up front, I would have atleast understood and accepted it. But its only marked, very discretely, at the top of the screen that processes the credit card transaction. It's 2023, most people don't carry cash, or don't carry a lot of cash on them. It's time for this business to change with the times, or at the very least ensure they are advising customers of this well in advance of the order. I ate my breakfast in the restaurant and in 15 minutes heard atleast 2 other people run into similar difficulties. The food was ok, nothing great, the bagel was a little dense, and a little dried out. I got the egg, cheese and bacon on a jalapeño cheddar. The bagel had a kick which was nice and the bacon was delicious thick real pieces of bacon. You only get 1 egg and the ratio of filling to bagel was a little sad. But I'm sorry no matter how good the food is, their business practice of essentially forcing customers to spend $10 gets them a 1 star and people should be made aware of their archaic business practices in advance. read more

The chive cream cheese was awesome and you can't go wrong with avocado. I unfortunately found a hair in my bagel - first they thought it was from a cooking brush but on closer inspection it was clearly a human hair. They promptly replaced the full bagel for me (the second one was actually better so yay). They also offered me a complimentary cookie or beverage, which was really nice of them. Sometimes hair happens in food - to me it's most important how a restaurant handles it, and they handled it well. My partner got the ALT bagel (avocado, lettuce, and tomato) with a fried egg. We both agreed next time adding cheese would bring it to the next level, but it was decent. ***note: if you like a really toasty bagel, ask for that since ours were very lightly toasted Coffee: They serve La Colombe coffee! Never had lox before ( didn't even know what it was) but this place opened my eyes to my new breakfast bagel standard. Everything else was pretty good too.
