Really disappointed. We used to come here all the time but today was the last time. Their bagels were stale and my husband ordered a egg white and avocado bagel with skinny wheat bagel and they did not put the avocado and charged him. They are always in a rush to get to the next person so not a surprise they didn't give him what he asked for. I came in right when they opened at 6:30am and they took my swiftly order for 2 dozen bagels. I wasn't a fan of their salt bagel (my favorite type of bagel) but I really liked their whole wheat everything bagel. Their housemade cream cheeses, especially chive, are also a hit! Staff is efficient and straight to the point (my coworker mentioned it reminded him of the Soup Nazi from "Seinfield") but you're in and out within minutes. Nicole was having a huge bagel craving after missing out on her office's free bagels which were of course brought in during Yom Kippur when she couldn't eat them. I decided to scan Yelp for somewhere not too far (I didn't feel like going into the city just for bread) with a good reputation and came upon BBB. We got there later in the day, around 2pm on a Sunday, so pretty much all of our first choices for bagel type were sold out. From the few remaining options I chose the jalapeno & cheddar bagel as the basis for my BLT+cheese. I was quite unhappy, and most likely would have given them 2 stars had Nicole not enjoyed hers and the fact we arrived so late. To me, the bagel tasted very little like either jalapeno OR cheddar, and was tough for this style of bagel. The cheese on the sandwich tasted just like those little slices in the plastic your mom used to put on your sandwiches, yuck. There was almost no bacon or tomato, so I wound up with essentially a lettuce and mayo sandwich. Also, the drinks from the refrigerator are not cold, so I suggest getting a cup of ice from the fountain machine. read more

Hm. On the one hand, I just ate the Bensonhurst sandwich (chicken, pesto, bacon) and it was an A1 amazing sandwich. 10/10 would order again. On the other hand, their "salmon cream cheese" is sadly lacking in both salmon and salmon flavor. Who knows how much salmon they put in it; all I can say is that when I ordered a salmon-cream-cheese bagel a few weeks ago, it tasted like a regular cream cheese bagel. Not salmon-y at all. I am not a New Yorker and can't say I have that self proclaimed title of knowing what qualifies a good bagel. But, I thought the bagels here were delicious. Breakfast Bagel (bacon, egg, and cheese): the bagel was soft and still chewy and cooked perfectly. No signs of burnt marks on the bacon or bagel which sometimes occurs with breakfast bagels. If you like crispy bacon you'll really enjoy this. The entire bagel was evenly proportioned and each bite had the right mix of everything. Great start to the morning. Pretty filling. The downsides are the fact that (1) it's a cash only joint...PAINFUL & (2) parking can be difficult as it is located on a busy street. Other than that.... They obviously don't compare to the bagel shops I've been to in actual NYC, but they're still one of my favorite places to grab breakfast from on the weekends. They have a good variety of sandwiches, spreads, and breads to choose from. Their bagels aren't as massive as the ones in NY, but they're the perfect size for breakfast or lunch. I'm weird about bagel to cream cheese ratio so I tend to ask them to go lighter on the spread because they definitely do not skimp on that (maybe for you that's a good thing, but for mildly lactose intolerant people like me, not so much). The bagel shop offers all of the classic bagel selections you could imagine but for some reason this shop just does it right. My favorite order is to grab a cinnamon raisin bagel with bacon egg and cheese. If you're someone who normally sticks to a cream cheese bagel, it's time to step it up and get that BEC. I never really understood the obsession with bagels (other then Panera Bread Chocolate Chip bagel but that doesn't really count because it's basically dessert =p). Then I walked into this place and I can't stop thinking about bagels! The crispy outside was perfect and the inside was soft & chewy. I never knew bagels can be this amazing and perfect. When you go in during busy time on the weekends, it's definitely crowded and hectic. Some of the staff aren't very friendly and they get annoyed easily when you're ordering. I'm a little short so I literally have to yell what I want to order so they can hear me behind the bar area when it's busy. Finally glad to check out a bagel place in the Northern VA area. Back in NJ, there are bagel places everywhere. You don't always want to have a full sit down breakfast/brunch, and perhaps just want a breakfast item on the cheaper end. As soon as I arrived, I had a feeling it would be pretty good, as there was a line, and most of the tables were full. Luckily found a table towards the back. I got an everything bagel with egg whites, spinach, and avocado with a decaf coffee. Delicious! It was about $7 or $8 and definitely worth it. Just beware, they only accept cash! Rare that a place nowadays only accepts cash, but I suppose they do it for tax purposes. I have made my last trip to Brooklyn Bagel Company on Wilson in Arlington today after witnessing a most egregious confrontation. A young woman came in to pick up an online order. Apparently she had made an error in how she order cream cheese with her bagel and the employee st the counter loudly and angrily and publicly berate her for her supposed mistake. She maintained her composure but was clearly upset by the attack. She asked to purchase the cream cheese separately but her request was refused followed by more angry accusations by the employee. No one should be treated in the way this woman was treated , especially a paying customer supporting a business. I would not tolerate for myself I will buy my behalf's elsewhere on the future. Fortunately there are many excellent choices in our area. If this is how they treat customers in public I don't even want to think what they might be doing in the food preparation areas! read more

When I first heard that Brooklyn Bagel Bakery only accepts cash, my imagination ran wild and I thought it was going to be a scene out of Seinfeld. My experience was very different. The staff was very friendly, and allowed for any and all custom orders. While my experience centers on breakfast bagels, and not the rest of their somewhat expansive menu, I can say without hesitation that their bagels are excellent. I have not tried the sausage, egg, and cheese, or the bacon, egg, and cheese, but a lot of my co-workers swear by it. I simply cannot pull myself away from the NY lox with tomato, sweet red onion, and capers. It checks all the boxes when you're looking for a morning treat, and their bagels are toasted to perfection. Pro-tip (which I learned from my mother-in-law): Get extra bagels when you go, individually bag them, and throw them in the freezer.
