Brooklyn Blend is a nice mix of a neighborhood coffee shop vibe and healthy eats! Typically I order delivery but I had the pleasure of visiting the shop one day. The staff was warm and friendly and there's some refreshing cucumber water to indulge in while you wait for your order. The wait time wasn't long at all. The shrimp sandwich and turmeric bread is stellar. Their green smoothie is filling and has an array of add ons that allow you to customize it to your liking. The shrimp salad is also quite appetizing. I've tried a few of their salmon dishes (salad and sandwich) but the shrimp sandwich is by far my favorite item on the menu so far. Clean and very friendly. We were visiting from South FL and decided to give the place a shot based on the Yelp page and being around the corner from our friend's apt. Food has a Trini twist and that's good in my book. I had the salmon sandwich (delicious chunk of properly cooked salmon) and my wife got the mushroom sandwich which she was still raving about on the subway. We sat by the juice bar and ordered a a seasonal watermelon, cantaloupe, lemon, mint (I think) smoothie. It was great and refreshing (wish the day was sunnier). Brooklyn Blend opened up around the corner from my place last year, so I was excited to see a new venue with healthy options in the area. The first time I went I ordered a B44 smoothie to go. I had been sitting on a stool for about 15 minutes when I noticed a random smoothie on the counter. I asked one of the employees if it was mine and he said yes. No one made that clear, but whatever. I opened a straw and was about to stick it in when the same employee said "Wait! That's not yours." Turns out it wasn't even a B44 and it was someone else's smoothie. I was in a bit of a rush, so by this point I was annoyed. They finally made my smoothie and I left. There was no apology but everyone was pleasant enough that I chalked it up to a one-time mistake. Sidenote - the smoothie was way too sweet, and this is coming from someone with a sweet tooth. I went back a few months later on a day when I was starving and wanted a quick meal. I walked in and the place wasn't packed at all. I ordered the Park Slope salmon salad to go and figured I'd be out of there fairly quickly. After about twenty minutes I noticed that there were a few paper bags sitting on the counter. I asked an employee if one of them was my salad and sure enough, it was. Now I know for a fact that my hearing is on point - I just got my ears checked a few weeks ago. I asked her why didn't anyone say anything and she responded with "I don't know, I didn't take your order." That's fair, but she also saw me sitting at the counter staring at the kitchen door and might've even heard my stomach grumble. I was starving and just trying to get home so I didn't make a big deal out of it. Net net, they need to improve their turnaround time and actually let customers know when their food is ready. Was in the area last week and decided to try since there was a line almost out the door. The outside looked like a regular shop, clear windows that made it easy to see what was in the inside. It was packed. Not a lot of seats were open but we were grabbing togo anyways. We got the B44 smoothie, strawberry banana shake and the shrimp sandwich. Really recommend the shrimp sandwich because the jumbo shrimp in there was grilled to perfection! The pineapples in the sandwich were juicy! Been meaning to try this place since it opened but now that I have I'm not too impressed... I do and will give it another try another day though. First the place layout is cute. I give the layout credit to the details of chairs, pillows, etc. Second, I asked the girl about the juices, she didn't seem to know much of it as I was asking if they do cleanses or sets I can buy for such cleanse.. no clue.. So if it is a juice spot (BLEND) then I would assume either they have or don't have it. Third, lets talk about how long it took to get my ICE COFFEE.... I ordered BLACK ice coffee and a salmon sandwhich (per her recommendation). I got the sandwhich first - YES its good, def get it. Has a nice little kick to it. Still didnt get my coffee half way through the sandwhich... then when she gave it to me it looked like there was milk, so i asked, is there milk? Her response was that she only added a little almond milk... WHY? I asked for black... she looked at me like I was crazy, and I kindly said, no I asked for black coffee, no sugar no milk nothing, just black.... A little while later she finally give me black coffee... So let me ask this... why would you volunteer to put milk in my coffee to 'make it colder'? Another excellent black-owned business not only providing their customers with delicious food & top-notch service but a relaxing space in which they can come to be productive or unwind from a long day. My favorite things to get off the menu are the park-slope salmon sandwich and a Schmorgasborg Shake with blueberries. So yummy! The staff is a family and it shows. They work well together, & prove the statement "teamwork, makes the dream work" to be true. That energy is felt by the customers and is what makes this business continue to grow. First time here... So let's see how it goes. There are many positive things about this place but still some room for improvement. It's a very open space and the sunlight comes through which is great for anything from studying to writing a paper. The wood paneling adds a nice touch. There are two sides of the bar that you can sit on since it's an L shaped bar. Most of the people seemed friendly when I came in however the cashier could be a bit more helpful if she sees that someone is uncertain of what to get. (Especially as it was my first time) She seems unbothered. They allow you to add things to your drink if the suggestions don't have all the ingredients you desire. They seem to be quick with the orders as it only took about five minutes for my juice to come out. The chef does use gloves to prepare meals. I am actually sitting here at the bar as I write my review so this allows me to see a couple of negatives...... They add boxed juice to some juices which is definitely a minus in my book. I can go to the grocery store and buy the same Mira juice and create a shake. I guess they are being honest because they could have poured it into another bottle and we would be none the wiser. I wish they would note which juices have it so you can opt out of the boxed concentrate. Another negative was the guy was mopping the floor... Now this would probably be a little more acceptable if it was early morning and nobody was here but to have someone maneuvering around customers made it a bit weird to be. Not only the movement but the place then smelt like cleaning products and they also had lettuce out on counter.... I'm sure people don't want dusty lettuce as anyone who is a cleaner knows what will happen when you sweep and dust around exposed anything. So all in all I may return on a random summer day but will make order revisions based on the knowledge I have gained on this visit.
