This is the first time I've eaten here in 5+ years. I used to come here pretty regularly and I loved the place. The staff was always quirky, the food was good, and the place ran smoothly even when there was a long line waiting for tables. This visit, our party had 6 people and we got there around 9:30 on a Sunday morning, before the breakfast/brunch/lunch rush and there weren't many tables occupied so the service was fast and attentive. Our coffee was always topped off, and the water carafe always full of ice water. Once our orders were placed the food came out faster than expected. I had the Chickito (flour tortilla around eggs, cheddar cheese, green onions, and chicken, with small containers of salsa, sour cream, and guacamole), and it was good, but not great. Next time I'd ask for more salsa. It also comes with home fries, which are my favorite variety of breakfast potato - crispy outsides and soft insides. Other folks ordered omelette, biscuits, other items off the menu, and all said their meals were very good. The chalkboard with specials says clearly at the top that they add 20% to every check, but I can't recall if it said it was a service fee or gratuity. Either way, they automatically add the tip which, in my opinion, lowers the bar for staff to do a good job. This means, go early to get better service to make the automatic +20% worth it. Overall, I'm going with 3 stars because of that extra 20%. If they didn't do that I'd give it 4 stars. read more

We came in as a party of four, and honestly, I don't know why we expected anything different. This place has always been mediocre at best, but this visit somehow managed to sink even lower. The service was a joke. Our waiter barely acknowledged us the entire time--long waits, no check-ins, nothing. Then came the straight-up lie: we were told chocolate milk refills were free. Cool, right? Wrong. The bill shows up, and suddenly we're staring at $44 just for chocolate milk. For four people. That's not a misunderstanding--that's either incompetence or straight-up deception. And just when you think it can't get worse, they slap on an automatic 20% tip for a party of four. Four. Not ten, not twelve--four. For service that was practically nonexistent. A forced tip for that level of effort feels insulting. If anything, the experience deserved a dollar out of pity, not a mandatory surcharge. In Tulsa, Ok visiting the in-laws and outlaws - and was shopping at a really eclectic shop (Ida Red) on Brookside when they recommended grabbing a bite to eat at 'Brookside by Day' across the street. Excellent choice on a chilly, windy December day to relax in this community favorite since 1991. Perfect place to enjoy some delicious home cooking on a cold damp day! Food and drink were great, service was top notch with friendly staff and food at great prices. These people have got to be the worst thing ever. Horrible food and service. The owner flipped me off and told me to get out and not come back. All because I didn't feel like the server deserved his so called 20% tip that they automatically add to your ticket. This place was my go-to for all things yummy and breakfast. The employees are great. BUT. I didn't realize they add the tip to your bill and the servers don't mentioned it. Standard diner breakfast/lunch fare at a luxury price point. We were sat at a table crammed into an active doorway and were passed by traffic all meal, including a table busser with an interesting aroma. All of the pepper shakers nearby were visibly gross. Eggs were cooked correctly and tasted ok, bacon was not great quality and had a strange aftertaste. Toast and potato chunks was nothing special at all. Haven't been to BBD in years so we decided to change that. Unfortunately it want as good as I remembered. My dad ordered the basic two egg and sausage breakfast which was on the pricier side. They were out of hash browns, which is strange for a breakfast joint, so home fries were subbed. All ten small cubed home fries were delicious. But ten? I ordered the Basic Murrito with scrambled eggs, sausage, cheese, etc. again on the pricey side for a small burrito and again, approximately ten small cubed home fries. It was served with thimbles of guacamole, sour cream and watery salsa which didn't have much flavor in my opinion. The flavor just wasn't there at all in my burrito. Will definitely be a while before returning as there are far better options for breakfast in the area. read more

The waitress never asked if I needed a refill till after we were done eating. got the bill and I was suprised - $45.00 i paid the bill and later checked on line to see they add 20% service fee ( tip ) automatically to your bill - I didn't know that was legal. anyway- This place is a 2 out of 10 Way overpriced- I don't recommend and I will never go back. It's pretty good. Stick with traditional breakfast items and you can't really go wrong (I've only had breakfast here). My first time I had the Fred's Country Benedict. I wasn't a huge fan at all. The small OJ was extremely small. Maybe 4 - 6 oz. The second time I got the 2 egg breakfast and a waffle and it was good. The waffle was really good! I'd definitely order again! I got a large OJ and was much more pleased. If you go early enough or on a nice day you should definitely enjoy your meal on the patio. Very nice vibe. read more

Warning: they charge you an automatic gratuity of 20%. Their policy was written on a very cluttered chalkboard that I didn't happen to read before ordering, otherwise I would have left before ordering. What was very annoying is that when I received my CC receipt it had the total for food and tip, PLUS the usual blank line to add a tip. I asked my server why there's a tip line if a 20% gratuity is already charged, but I didn't receive an adequate explanation. I left the place wondering how many customers inadvertently leave a 40% tip because they didn't happen to read the chalkboard. To me, it seems set up this way to rip off customers who are unaware of their gratuity policy. I don't live near Tulsa and naturally wouldn't go back even if I did. I'm leaving this review as a warning to other people. Why are restaurants automatically adding gratuities? It's annoying enough on cruise ships, but at least customers know to expect it when on a cruise ship because the cruise line lets you know up front. read more

Great service, perfect portions, and fresh ingredients. We all loved our food. The only reason I'm leaving 4 stars is the bathroom really needs a remodel and new tile. I'm really big on places being clean. This bathroom felt gross when I walked in and it smelled like mold. I know it must be difficult to remodel when you only have one small bathroom and need to keep business running. However, I think that bathroom will always feel dirty until it gets new tile, grout, and maybe a fresh coat of paint. Oh also expect 20% gratuity to be automatically added to your check. read more

On my recent visit to Brookside By Day, I found the food to be ordinary. When asked about the specials, the server didn't really know what they were and pointed to the chalkboard, which was not clearly visible from the table. I didn't feel like the server even cared if we were there or not. On top of that, gratuity is not an option - 20% gratuity is automatically added to the bill, so good service-20%, mediocre service -20%, bad service-20%. For years, back in the 90's and early 2000's, I frequented this establishment. There was always a line and wait list, the servers were friendly and efficient, and the food was good. That was not my experience today. There are plenty of breakfast restaurants in Tulsa where gratuity can be offered based on the level of service received. I don't plan on returning. read more

This use to be one of our favorite places. Over the years it seems that they have raised prices and dropped service and food quality. I always pay 20% but just for the server to take our order then leave the check and never check on us again is really bad. We even had to go inside to pay. This is now a low quality place for the price of Neighborhood Jam which is one of the best restaurants in Tulsa. It makes me sad to say this but take your business there! This whole area reminds me of Meridian Drive in Oklahoma City. Wide Open Spaces by The Dixie Chicks. However it's also city life. Lots of people. But also very comfortable. The waters and waitresses wear very casual outfits. Shorts, lounge wear, croptops and tennis shoes make people feel right at home. But it's not just the attentiveness of the staff and the way they dress and act are what's so appealing. I love looking out the large windows. The music is perfectly chosen. The food isn't bad. It's honestly really good. I just don't understand why it's only rated 3 stars. Maybe I can figure that out by reading other reviews. read more

Seems like there is reoccurring theme in these reviews. I'm going to add my experience today. Ordered my breakfast, finished up got the check BOOM 20% added in "advance" didn't notice until I went through the itemized receipt. I almost added my own tip, at that point the waiter would have got a nice double tip. It is posted in random places in the restaurant, and on the receipt when going to pay, but it doesn't matter...2 reasons. 1. You're taking away my choice. 2. It's open door now to get "terrible" service. After approaching what I assume was the owner/manager, because he had authority to tell me to get out of the restaurant. Telling him to get the 20% AUTOMATIC gratuity off of my check, he said he would take care of my meal and to never come back to his lovely establishment, I then reassured him that he would NEVER have an issue with that going forward. He also made it clear to make sure I told my friends, which i am now doing in this review. I'll go a step further Mr. Owner guy, I'll be sure to tell "every" single person I come into contact with. Oh, to add: the guy was so butthurt over $6 he wouldn't let my wife finish her breakfast. Real HIGH character move. Honestly, 2 things. Either the guy is in desperation "times are tough", or as others have been saying - this nothing more than a tip scheme of sorts. In defense of the waiter, his service was good/mediocre, not stellar, and definitely not terrible. I was going to add my own decent tip to the bill, but as mentioned before this just opens the door to other servers to perform to any degree including terribly, or SUB-PAR as the food was today, and still gain a hefty reward for it. Don't come for the decor. Wait staff was awesome and attentive. I asked for coffee once, every other time they asked me if I needed topping off. Food was good. Momma loved the French toast, and had a side of 4 pieces thick bacon. My omelet was good and had plenty of filling. It came with sides, including a biscuit and gravy that was spot on. Added to the bill was 20% gratuity, which was a surprise, but with Covid, I've got no problem with this because although I pay up, there are plenty of jack wagons who don't. Meal was a little pricey for the location...but we enjoyed our meal. I usually try to make it here twice a month on Sundays. I've been coming here for over 4 years and there is one waitress that I get and she's great. She knows my order, it always comes out right, I never go needing a refill on my drink, and she makes the experience absolutely amazing. I came in a couple weeks ago and received possibly the worst service I've ever had there. Food came out wrong, waitress didn't deliver the food and didn't come to check on the food for 10 minutes. I didn't ask for them to remake it, and they didn't offer, but I did paid for my food and even tipped the waitress about another $10. I also commented that I'd make sure my waitress was there the next time I decided to come back before I committed to eating there. Forgive me for wanting the food I ordered to be the way I ordered it, and have a decent experience. Heaven forbid, you know, customer service. I guess the manager behind the bar did not like the fact that I ordered my food one way it came out wrong and I didn't eat it and said that I'll just come back and make sure my waitress is here before I eat here again because today I had a very interesting experience which just blows my mind. When I entered I saw that my waitress is there so I say hi, then waited for a seat. After I set down I waited for her to come by with my drink, but she never did, instead another guy (who is also good at his job) comes up and says I'm your waiter now. I asked if my usually was just too busy and he said no I'm your waiter now you won't be getting her anymore. I said excuse me. He said I can explain it, but I'm going to be your waiter now. I told him nothing against him, but no, I'll just leave. So, because I had a horrible experience, paid for my food, and said I'll come back and make sure my waitress is here, you want to ruin my experience even more. How does that make sense from a customer service standpoint. This from an establishment that added a 20% gratuity to your order, regardless of your party size, during CoViD-19, and hasn't removed it. I know my review is not gonna do much, but I hope other people see it and start to question how we view our experience, especially when you keep upping the prices of food, you keep a 20% gratuity you added on during Covid, and we're clearly out of Covid now, and this is how you treat customers who come consistently to support your establishment. I don't know if the older, short gray hair gentleman is the owner of the restaurant or not, but if he is that says a lot about about why he didn't like the fact that I didn't like my food. Definitely not worth what you pay. 3 of us went and our bill was $74. Food lacked flavor & nothing seemed fresh. Felt store bought. They also do hand written tickets which makes it difficult to see what your being charged for. Also, on a chalkboard in the back of the restaurant it said "20% gratuity added to dine - in" which means that even with bad service the server still gets tipped. Usually places only do this with large parties but this is all parties. They also don't communicate this with you so I bet a lot of people are double tipping without knowing. BBD was a place that we really wanted to visit, it had been on our list for a while. We went there at 11AM, the perfect time for brunch and all in all, it was alright. Let's start with the service, this was probably the best part of it. Our waiter was a hoot, a great guy with a great sense of humour and he had all the time in the world for us. We can appreciate it. The food was okay and I that is one reason that a star gets knocked off. I was expecting some banging brunch classics but it was slightly underwhelming. I don't think the quality or the portion sizes matched up to the price. If we had paid $5 less per meal for the food we got, it would have probably felt right. I had chicken waffles which were $14 and my wife had the half toasted sandwich which was also $14. I found it to be a bit expensive. Don't get me wrong, the food was good in the moment but all things considered, we're not rushing to go back! We each enjoyed an alcoholic drink (long morning at the DMV called for it). A Bloody Mary was $12 (also far too much imo) and a beer was $6. Lastly, there was a mandatory 20% gratuity fee added to the cheque, I don't like being forced into those scenarios up front. The servers were nice, we were sat right away. Mediocre service though. The music was good. Our table was tiny and in a corner so I felt a little claustrophobic. The food came out VERY quickly, but that makes me think most all the food is premade and not made to order. Also, the coffee was so watered down. Tasted like literal warm water. I thought maybe it was just that batch so I asked for fresh coffee, but the new batch also tasted bad. I tried to tell my waitress in a nice way that it was watered down and we didn't drink even half a cup. And she just said "oh sorry about that" as she was already walking away from us. I feel their breakfast is overpriced, as well as their brown water they call coffee. They also charge 20% gratuity to all tickets. So, it was a bad pricey breakfast. $42 for two people. We found this place using a different search engine that rated it at 4.5 stars so we thought we would give it a chance. I wish I would have read yelp reviews though because we probably wouldn't have come. We came for breakfast and there was no wait which was nice. The service was decent and they were pretty quick. The food however, not the best. Like if you are looking for an amazing brunch/ breakfast, this is not it. We ordered a breakfast burrito and omelette. Thee burrito was decent but everything just had a canned not fresh feel. The biscuit was dry and stale, the gravy had no flavor. The omelette was ok. Overall, everything was just ok and we wish we would have gone somewhere else for a really good breakfast. They also charge 20% gratuity no matter what. Our waters were not refilled, they never checked on us or anything (which is not a big deal, but just not the best service to get 20%). BBD is one of my usual spots for breakfast/brunch during the weekend. Yay for mimosas and spicy Bloody Marys! I love the casual, homey and chill atmosphere. Depending on what time you go, you might have to wait a bit for a table but it's never anything outrageous. Plus they open at 7am so you can always go earlier to beat the crowd. The staff is consistently friendly, attentive, and willing to make any accommodations. There are a lot of great options in the menu including staple breakfast dishes like omelets and pancakes, house specialties like the Murrito and some specials like the chilaquiles (perfect with some avocado on it!). I have not tried their lunch/dinner options yet. read more

There's nothing quite like spending a chilly fall day on this patio with breakfast foods at BBD. After one visit I've fallen in love with this place! I'm all about having an affordable brunch without sacrificing quality food, and that's exactly what I found here. If you do sit outside, don't forget to ask about daily specials as they aren't available for you to see outside. I had the angel fire burrito, which is their signature murrito but topped with their homemade salsa! It's supposed to have a bit more of a kick to it, but I found it not to be very noticeable, and I don't even eat spicy food all that often. My friend ordered the Florentine omelet which was just as delicious if not more!! The food did take a little more time than I expected, but they were pretty packed that Sunday morning. I'm also in love with their house potatoes. Sooo in love with them. I didn't get to spend much time in the interior of the diner, but it gave a very cozy old-school diner vibe which was nice. I've read the other reviews about the 20 per cent automatic tip! Didn't realize that going in !!! We tip based on service received, not some arbitrary amount set by the owner. The prices on the items were too high by our judgement - they weren't posted - we both had the specials, and the prices weren't listed. Now I see why. $14.00 for one waffle and two eggs is too much. $14.00 for a two egg scramble. No! Watery salsa (I had to ask for it) and Velveeta cheese on the omelette? Ha! To add insult to injury, I gave the waiter an extra tip, not realizing I had already been charged a gratuity. The coffee was ho-hum. The waitstaff was adequate, but not extraordinarily so. I used to be a BBDs regular before I went vegan. The two eggs meal is everything I wanted for a traditional breakfast. I also love the patio when the weather is nice. I ventured back a few weeks ago and this awesome waitress helped me compile a vegan friendly breakfast. Definitely planning to become a regular again. I would love to see some vegan friendly creamer so I can drink some BBDs coffee (haven't graduated to drinking it black yet) Special shout out to the waiter who calls himself Spicy!
