Brookside By Day also known as "BBD'S" is a classic breakfast spot in Tulsa I feel. I've been coming here since college and never leave disappointed. Quick, friendly service. Reasonable prices, short and simple menu and perfectly located along brookside. Favorite part is: parking available in the back along with a back door seeing as I can't parallel park along brookside! This place does get packed on the weekends but they do offer counter service and I feel like people don't linger around here for hours more of an in and out place. Their coffee never disappoints and you go less than half a cup because your waitress always notices. However, they don't offer fresh cream in cups they just have the plastic ones which i'm never a fan on. I always get the classic 2 egg plates that come with their delicious never greasy perfectly grilled homefries that you WILL eat every last bite on your plate I promise! Their toast is yummy sometimes I ask for no butter. The eggs are always done great. Except for my last visit the last part of my eggs were freezing cold. Extremely Disappointing My stepfather, brother and I decided to stop into BBD this morning for a nice breakfast. We each received extremely mediocre food at a high price point. I don't know what has happened to this place, as we used to visit the one on Harvard more often, but since COVID (apparently) things have gone way downhill. The egregious part was a forced 20% gratuity on our 3 person party. Which shockingly brought our breakfast total to a whopping $50.00. I understand that food workers are supposed to be supplemented by the public right now, but it felt outright scammy. The service we received was indifferent, and makes it easy for them to bypass excellent service because you are forcing a tip on your customers. It's a bad business move, but it's not our concern. We did not say anything or try to get it sorted, we just wanted to get out of there. I'm kind of sorry to say we will never be visiting either of the BBD locations again. I've read the other reviews about the 20 per cent automatic tip! Didn't realize that going in !!! We tip based on service received, not some arbitrary amount set by the owner. The prices on the items were too high by our judgement - they weren't posted - we both had the specials, and the prices weren't listed. Now I see why. $14.00 for one waffle and two eggs is too much. $14.00 for a two egg scramble. No! Watery salsa (I had to ask for it) and Velveeta cheese on the omelette? Ha! To add insult to injury, I gave the waiter an extra tip, not realizing I had already been charged a gratuity. The coffee was ho-hum. The waitstaff was adequate, but not extraordinarily so. Stopped by this morning around 7:45 as I had a craving for bacon and pancakes. Google stated that they opened at 7:00am so this was perfect! Just down the street from the house, and open!! When my dear lady and I got there a fellow was wiping down the tables in the outdoor seating area. As we moved towards the door, after he watched us get out of the car and could likely overhear us talking about sitting outside, says "Umm, we don't open until 8". I explained that their company information on Google had their regular 7am opening time listed and he says "Well usually we open at 7". So basically he inferred that we could go fuck ourselves as he didn't want to even offer us a coffee as we waited for their kitchen to open. Read the rest of the bad reviews for this place and you'll see I'm not the only one who was unaware of the automatic added gratuity. My friend and I almost ended up tipping twice. I told the owner that they really oughtta make that more clear, and he immediately got really rude and defensive. "There's a sign there in the other room!" he barks out. "We're seated outside," I told him. "It's on the check too!" he snaps, and slams a receipt on the counter for me to look at. "But then why is there still a blank line for me to write in a tip?" I wonder. There's some fine print at the bottom of the menu that most people don't notice. This isn't a common diner practice and he knows full well by now that it's shady and deceitful, given how many one-star reviews he's received for this very problem. Such a great experience! Like many others who have reviewed, I've heard great things about Brookside By Day, but unlike some of those others, I realize that this is a small, family diner. It's popular, and the food is tasty and cooked home style, not from a box or shipped in a box to meet a corporate standard. The food was tasty, made with love, and just as I ordered it. It's nice to go to a spot who serves breakfast day & night outside of Denny's & IHOP. I've been here before & had one of their chalkboard specials, which was good. French Toast with cinnamon streusel topping & it went well with the bacon & eggs. This time around, I got their French Toast (Texas style) with hash browns. It was good but wasn't better than the kind I had last time. Their hash browns were real good. You can have options to add nuts &/or fruit for a little extra as well. The prices are very reasonable & the servers were nice. It seems to be more packed in the morning compared to night time. Late breakfast (11:15) on a weekday. Found a parking spot in back and entered through the back door. Greeted and allowed to choose our spot. Fairly busy. Brought waters and menus. We both ordered a Mimosa and coffee. She got the one egg breakfast with bacon and I got the two egg with bacon. Both came out fairly quickly. Staff was very busy but kept the coffee filled. Breakfasts were good. Not too noisy and the background music was good. There are signs posted and on the menu which advise that there is a 20% tip added to the meal. What is interesting is that when you ask for your tab, the tab clearly shows the 20% tip has been added in. (Ours was $8.52). I gave him my credit card and when he returned, the tab was missing. There were only the two credit card receipts (One for the merchant/one for the customer) and both had the total as well as a line for a tip. If you hadn't paid attention and realized you'd already been charged the extra 20%, you would likely add another tip. I think that's a little hinky and didn't appreciate. I initially drew a line through the tip line but after thinking about the good service we'd received, I added $10 as another tip so our breakfast ended up costing us $53+. It is very likely we won't be in a rush to eat here in the near, or distant future. read more

This has to be the best breakfast/brunch spot in Tulsa! We were seated immediately by friendly faces upon arrival. The place was busy but not too busy where it was insane. Everyone gets a glass of water even if you don't ask for it. The coffee was just perfect. I had the Murrito with chili on top. This was enough to share with someone if you are not that hungry. The murrito was stuffed with scrambled eggs, sausage, and a couple other items. It was perfect with chili on top. The home fries were a nice complement to the murrito. I also had a biscuit, which was soft, warm, and fluffy. They also have bloody marys and mimosas if you want them with your breakfast. Overall, the food and service were excellent. I will definitely come back the next time I am in Tulsa. I like most places on Brookside and I expected this place to please. All I can say is this... A picture is worth a 1000 words. The dirty carpet, tables, salt and pepper shakers that looked as if they have never been cleaned, the menus were dirty and basically the complete lack of effort to clean the place... well I didn't even eat. My friend ate and she said the food was just okay. The wait staff was okay, the host was not organized. Nothing about this place made me want to come back. I would not eat here if you have children and decide to sit on the patio. They have a gated area in front that they keep opened with a chair. While eating I saw a family, who chose to sit at the back of the outdoor patio. Their child took off while his parents were running after trying to grab him, which only made him run faster. As I watched in horror while this boy ran through an open gate I screamed so loudly it startled the boy and kept him from being killed by the car that was seconds away from him. When i tried to discuss the issue with the owner about the gate or even having a sign to alert parents about the risk. I'm an attorney and although it is on patents to watch their kids, these parents were doing their best to keep the kid safe, however due to the gate being open he was nearly killed. The owner took no responsibility, laughed about the incident and asked me to leave. I called the restaurant and was told they can't have the gate closed due to serving food... this has me questioning why the gate existed in the first place. This place just screams mediocre. They had a cool area to eat outside, but one thing they need to do is remove the service area or have it covered with a wall. It's literally next to the front door inside. There's a huge trash area and where all the dirty dishes go. It's just something I don't think a customer wants to see. It gives a bad impression. Cover the area up or get rid of it completely. Never been to a restaurant that has it out in the open. Walking into the place, it's very small inside. The general look is very outdated. I didn't see a sign to see if we needed to wait to be seated or not. They should probably put a sign by the menus. One thing I noticed was how expensive their breakfast is. Most of the dishes were 8-10 dollars. If you're charging that much, it better be a premium, unique breakfast. I'll explain a bit later why I've brought this up. So the menu itself is extremely small and limited. One side is breakfast and the other side is lunch. On one of the walls was a chalkboard with their specials listed. That was actually a good touch and very visible. Our waitress looked like she was the only one in the area, so she looked very busy and really didn't have time to chat with us and smile. Not her fault at all. As for my order, I had a omelette that had all the breakfast meats and it gave you a side choice of house fries, biscuits and gravy or a side of meat. I asked mine with the biscuits and gravy. The time it took was reasonable. About 15-20 minutes which is the norm. When my food came out.... I was just unimpressed by the plating of the food. The food itself looked plain and extremely greasy. Some people might like that, but I do not. It tasted alright, but they don't season their food to give it more flavor or depth. It just looked like a meal that I prepped for myself, and I'm not a great cook. The biscuit tasted something that you can buy at the grocery store. It was not made from scratch. It was not crispy on the outside and buttery. It was just plain. Now earlier I mentioned how expensive it was.. You can find better food at a Denny's or IHOP breakfast chain. They charge far less and it tastes better. I would go else where. This isn't the best spot in Tulsa for breakfast. A few friends and I ate on the patio and the server wasn't even close to friendly the entire time. When he dropped our checks (we did 3 separate checks) he added a 20% gratuity to each check. When we asked why, his response was if he "has to work in these elements he will be compensated for it." I'm assuming he was referring to covid-19. Me and four of my family members arrived to "the BBD" late on a Saturday morning, finding a packed house. We had our names added to the list. One of our party had been there a couple of times - once for breakfast and once for lunch, both during slower times. For four of us it was the first time, but it may have been the last for all of us. Like I said, it was packed. Normally I don't mind this. I'm patient. I take it as a good sign the wait will be worth it. I understand that I'm not any more entitled to a high level of service than anyone else. What I don't understand is why my group was repeatedly passed over for seating in favor of other parties that came in after us. Not having ever worked in the food service industry, maybe there are issues with the organization of tables and people I'm missing out on. From a customer standpoint, though, it was rude. And as another reviewer mentioned, while waiting I was privy to many negative interactions between the man who appeared to be the manager and other customers (him being the instigator/antagonizer) and among staff ABOUT customers (our very existence seemed to annoy some of them). Once we were seated it took quite a while for a server to come over and take our drink orders. This gave me time to check out my surroundings. What I saw was diner decor. Cheap, tacky-looking furniture and common accessories that all seemed to have a fine layer of dust/grease on them. I've seen better, but I've also seen worse. Our waitress upon arrival and throughout the meal was prompt, quiet, and efficient - things that, not being a morning person, I personally appreciate. ( With servers it's a.m. just the food ma'am, p.m. hey let's be friends.) It wasn't enough to make up for my first impression, though. I know. Get to the food already. I had a 3-meat omelet (bacon, ham, and sausage) with added tomatoes and jalapeños and topped with cheddar cheese. Home fries and a biscuit with gravy came on the side. The biscuit did not seem to be fresh. The gravy was bland. The home fries were just okay. The only thing that made my tastebuds take notice was the omelet, which had good flavor and the right balance of its many ingredients. Which was good because it changed my mind about the place from 'total waste of time' to 'would do in a pinch'. Oh, and it is overpriced. Several people encouraged us to visit this breakfast spot so we gave it a shot on one of our first mornings out in Tulsa. Before we could get the first bites delivered to our mouths, the check was delivered with a, "No rush on this," from the waitress. When you set the ticket down before I finish eating, I feel a little rushed. When you set it down before I could even take a bite, you just set a precedent for the whole meal and I no longer feel welcome. I have been coming here since 1992, this was probably my last visit. An automatic gratuity of 20% was added for our order (a party of two). I would have tipped less since my friend never got a coffee refill and my water was empty. The waiter was probably bored, since they were not busy at all. They do not disappoint. I've had the french toast, biscuits and gravy and simple bacon and eggs. The french toast was great. The biscuits and graver were legit great!! This is the second time we have returned for a breakfast in two separate visits. We sat at the bar both time with the same waiter. He's just as consistent as the great breakfasts. I love this restaurant!!!!!! It is very quaint and the staff is super friendly. It is located in the heart of Brookside and has a lovely outside patio. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Truth be told, they are all delicious! For breakfast, I love their Belgian waffle platter. It is just perfectly cooked and has a thick syrup with it. For dinner, I like the burgers and also the chicken fingers. We ate dinner tonight. Kenny had a burger with waffle fries and I had the chicken fingers with fries and cottage cheese I also ordered a house salad with honey mustard dressing. I have never been to this establishment and will not return - not because of the food but because of our server, David. My boyfriend and I brought our service animal and were sitting on the patio for brunch. Our server seemed annoyed by our requests and presence. He didn't return to fill up our water and was avoidant of our table. He didn't return to ask if we needed anything, he just speechlessly dropped of our check. Brookside By Day is probably the most neighborly spot on Brookside. Every time I'm there I see comradery among the people there. It's that feeling that everyone has been there before and they come here often. Probably because it's a nice little place to hang out. I always stop in for the breakfast. I know they serve other things but to me, this is a breakfast spot. It's fairly priced and the food is fairly good. It's not a "knock your socks off" type of restaurant but it's a dang good place to get pancakes. The other notable thing about this place is the service. Everyone that works here is a champion server. You will be hard pressed to run out of coffee or water when you eat here.
