I'm giving this place two stars instead of one because the hostess and waitress were so nice. Are you familiar with Seinfeld's "Soup Nazi" character? That pretty well sums up the guy I assume is the manager or owner. We didn't interact with him directly while we were there, but waiting for a table, I watched him be straight up rude to so many customers! Rolling his eyes, making snarky comments... customers are the lifeblood of your business. Yeah, don't be a doormat if a customer is really out of line, but being a d--k for no reason is just bad business. Again, the hostess and waitress were super nice, maybe in an attempt to make up for how abrasive this other guy was. Our food was decent, standard diner fare, but at Brookside prices. Had florentebe omlett with biscuit and gravy. Kim had a "scramble." the eggs weren't lush enough. We had a single pancake and it a regular diner cake. Coffee was better than hotel coffee, but not super. Biscuits were crispy from being warmed over cause they didn't taste fresh. Better than a waffle house or dennys, but not too good. The waiter was also loud as hell, and overly engaging - the kind of guy who sits down at the table to take orders and calls old folks "kiddo." First off, I love tipping servers. I love it and enjoy great service for breakfast. I asked my sister to look up places that have French toast and google gave us BBD. I was excited as I'm from another area and when we got there, we weren't greeted and a guy just rolled his eyes at us when I asked him if we sit anywhere. Then, we sat down and I ordered my drink and so did my husband. The guy asked if we needed time and I said "yes" and he disappeared for 20 seconds and came back with our drinks and asked again and I said not yet. He then came back 15 minutes later and we ordered. He snatched my husbands empty glass off the table and then brought it back. It was then that my sister saw an old guy at the cashier counter rolling his eyes at us. After we got our meals from another server who when I asked for extra ketchup for the table, she brought me 3 packets. I didn't find my meal satisfying, it's subpar but what annoyed me was the owner and servers. Don't you dare slam a drink at my table and throw a check arrogantly at us. Instead, use your words. I say this because it's so easy for people to just express annoyance through body language than speaking. I am not going to tip someone $9+ when they were barely at the table, had an attitude, and then rolled his eyes at us. We were all paying separately so I told the elderly man that and he said "WELL YOU DONT HAVE TO LEAVE A TIP AT ALL." I said,"okay." I didn't, I made sure my sister didn't, and my husband tipped low. Why? We tip off service, don't like it? Maybe don't be rude. As we left the pre dementia old man started yelling at us "ZERO ZERO ZERO WE LOVE ZEROES." Will I be coming back? Got the Lorraine omelette. I thought it was impossible to have flavorless bacon, but apparently it can be done. The cubed ham tasted like it came out of a can. The Swiss cheese tasted like nothing. The home fries were fine. The place is cute but doesn't seem very clean. Spent 35 bucks and could have made a better meal at home for a fraction of the price. The coffee was decent. Brookside By Day, affectionately called 'the bbd', is something I had already heard of before moving to Tulsa a few years ago. This place is an all out diner. The look, the strong delicious bacon smells, and food will provide home-ee feel. Everything on the menu is reasonably priced considering all of the food you get! I made the mistake of thinking I could eat everything in front of me once... poor decision, you guys. Plan to portion out what will fill you up and take some home to enjoy later. I ordered an omelet which ended up coming with biscuits and gravy and breakfast potatoes. Talk about a carb feast! Service is lovely here and I've never had to wait to be seated. Cute place, a strange mix of people. It seems like they were trying to hard to "not care." The food was just okay, I've had better at IHOP =). My main thing was the biscuits and gravy. I hope they didn't make that gravy from scratch, if they did, it was a waste of time. It tasted like they used packet gravy you get from the grocery store. BBD, as the Tulsans call it, it good, not great. Growing up here, my high school friends and I came here once a week for breakfast before school--we were obsessed. The waitstaff are fun, remember you, and know everything that's good. However, after college I moved back to tulsa and took my now husband there who was way under impressed. There is a lot of hype about BBD and frankly it doesn't deliver. It is typical breakfast food. Nothing too special. I have heard nothing but RAVE reviews about this place. We took the kiddos there for breakfast and weren't sure where to wait or who to talk to about getting a table. Then they put us in the back by the backdoor. We have kids, there are people coming in and out of the freezing weather, opening, closing, standing with the door open, it was cold to say the least. We would have happily waited for a table elsewhere had we been asked and known the type of traffic thru that door! We couldn't even take our coats or gloves off and try to enjoy the place. Because of the servers attitude I didn't even feel like asking for another seat. I wish we would have just left. The serve acted as if she was annoyed she had to serve us, could really use some work on her friendly skills. When we asked the specials she rolled her eyes, sighed and ran over to something, came back looking at her phone and rattled off at us the specials with such a fast pace we couldn't remember what she had said. It would be nice if they would make use of the BIG EMPTY wall and put the specials there for people who get shoved into the hallway seating. Food is easily $2+ over priced for what it is. There either needs to be a little bit more added with the food or reduced prices. From where we sat, this is a whole in the wall dump I wouldn't go to, recommend anyone go to or even think about going back to. I would give this place zero stars if I could. It was a horrible experience, which was such a disappointment because I have only heard good things. I will not be trying it again, no matter how great anyone says it is. read more

Ya'll, I'm so happy to have discovered this spot. It reminds me of home! I just transferred to Tulsa from home sweet home Mississippi and have been searching forever for great breakfast with great people! I know literally nobody and the staff made me feel like family. It was amazing. My server, I think his name was David, was... unbelievable. He helped guide me in the right direction (I'm a little picky) and even recommended a few off the menu items. BBD is a pretty great place for breakfast or brunch. I'm a big fan of 'diner coffee' and they've got it - coffee, cream, sweetener. Nothing fancy! The food is quite good! I usually get an omelette with home fries with a biscuit and gravy. It's actually not TOO much food - just a very full plate. I recommend the spinach, chicken, mushroom, and cheese one. My girlfriend ordered the cinnamon french toast with home fries. The french toast was REALLY GOOD. It had just the right amount of cinnamon and sweetness! The service is always fine - they're usually pretty busy on weekend mornings so you're going to have to flag your waiter down, but they're always very nice and courteous. The last thing I'll add is that a lot of people like their mimosa - have never tried it, but maybe you should. Great breakfast place! read more

They do have plenty of outdoor sidewalk seating but we were inside this day,the carpets are quite worn and drity....cant understand why a restaurant would have carpeted floors. I love coming here when I am back in Tulsa. However, just like the other reviews, they apparently believe adding 20% gratuity is legal for a party of two. Our waiter disappeared several times. When I approached the old man at the counter, he said "We have to wear masks and work under these conditions" very rude and all restaurants only add gratuity when the party is six or more. You definitely lost our families biz. Best of luck to you all during these hard times. Oh side note, the rude older man is "Kyle" the owner. I've always heard good things about Brookside by Day, but never have had a chance to eat there until this weekend. I went with a group of 4 other people. They were very busy when we first got there. We stood for a few minutes before the manager walked by and asked if we'd put our name down and pointed us over to a notebook discreetly laying on a table. We signed in with our name and number in our party (5). There were a lot of people, so we expected a wait, but after waiting for quite a while, it was obvious they were passing over us and seating parties similar to our size (4, 6, etc.). Right as we were about to say something, they finally called our name. Upon being seated, we sat a few minutes before the waitress came over. There was still a tip from the previous person on the table and I tried to hand it to the manager passing by and he jokingly said "just keep it", but didn't stop to get it. The waitress finally picked it up when she arrived. My seat was next to a window and stayed pretty drafty throughout the whole meal. The waitress was efficient. She took our order, checked on us as needed, and kept my coffee cup filled, which is always a bonus in my eyes. I ordered the egg, bacon, jalapeno, cheddar scramble with a side of homefries and a biscuit with gravy. The food was decent, but nothing too special. The biscuit and gravy seemed very generic with not much flavor. The home fries were just potatoes fried, with no seasoning. The egg scramble was average. The one good thing is that they put a lot of bacon and jalapenos in it. Overall, I wasn't impressed. read more

Definitely a "Mom and Pop" establishment. I myself, love breakfast food, but I was kind of unimpressed with BBD. I had heard a lot about it from my friends who grew up in Tulsa (I did not) and I was expecting a little something better. Its always CRAZY busy when I go in. We love to come to Brookside by Day for breakfast on the weekends! Word to the wise, it is usually packed, so expect a line. However, it is well worth the wait!! The only meal I have ever had at BBD is breakfast, but it is always great! I love the cinnamon french toast, with home fries and bacon. My boyfriend likes the omelets, breakfast burritos, and biscuts & gravy. The orange juice is very fresh and they always keep your coffee cup full. The portions are large and you will not need to eat lunch that day! Very yummy!! The wait staff is a very colorful group, who are always willing to help. What's happened to BBD? If you are going to charge 20% gratuity, service needs to be more spot-on and in our case the service was average. The Food was really, really mediocre if not sad. If you are going to put a premium on your menu items, your food has to be premium, the service has to attempt premium. You can be casual in dress but not in service. BBD is a icon in Tulsa, maybe even a designation for our out of towners, so its so sad to see the quality decline. Please guys try harder..! read more

The Florentine omelet was scrumptious when I finally got it. Typically it's not a long wait for your food and neither was it this time they just got the order completely wrong. The waitress just left the wrong food and went to place another order after showing us that it wasn't her fault, it was the kitchen's. Who cares? By the time they brought out my omelet, and just the omelet, the biscuit and home fries from the 1st plate were stone cold. And don't even think of asking for milk with your tea, you'll be met with an irritated scowl from the waitress. Not a very enjoyable experience. But the omelet was tasty. read more

Take three "old, store front shops" and knock through adjoining walls. Add a patio cover and retro/modern photos of Tulsa on interior walls. Maximize seating opportunities inside, and keep the menu based on home cooking for breakfast, brunch, & lunch. Add a full bar, hard working staff, and one eccentric, male server with a ball cap and a quip for any situation. Parking is the biggest issue, but park behind and come through the back door. Sign in on the book if a host is not around. Then just relax while you wait. Fresh squeezed orange juice is a definite go-to. Our table had the Basic Murrito, the 3-Meat omelette, both with the mini steak fries version of breakfast potatoes. Have come here twice with a groupon. It's a really good deal, but a fairly average breakfast. The giant cinnamon roll is pretty delicious as well as the 3 meat omlette. My favorite part of coming here is sitting outside on the patio drinking a cup of coffee and soaking up the energy and ambiance of Brookside. I have been eating at BSBD for years and have always found the restrooms uncleanliness disconcerting. Now I have found that extends to the kitchen. I was having a salad and there was a live, young roach crawling around under the lettuce. They comp'ed the meal, but folks need to know the risk they taking eating there. I would want to, especially if traveling in from out of town. The owner said "those things happen," fruit fly's and fly's maybe but roaches breeding in a kitchen by your salad mix is just plain filth! I used to come here a lot when I first moved to Tulsa, but have since found a few other places I like a little better. Can't complain though! They give you everything you need and have great service. If i was just rating the breakfast, I would say 5 star ! However the experience also relates to the service. It took a while to be able to place the order, no biggie. The REAL problem was that it took over 45 minutes to receive the food after placing the order. In and out was 70 minutes, which of course is not acceptable when you're just talking breakfast. This is one of those places that I really want to like, but every time I'm there it's not good. Our server, Jason, demanded our drink order, slammed down some waters, then brought 2 coffees with spoons in the cup. I don't understand why they put a spoon in the coffee. I like my coffee black, therefore, there is no reason for a spoon to be in the cup. Now, I have a wet spoon that I need to do something with. Ask for extra napkins, get a weird look... Decided to try something different than eggs for once, ordered Belgian waffle and side of bacon. When our food is delivered, the plate with the side of bacon on it is perfectly centered on my waffle, to make it easier to carry, I guess. NOT OK. I could have waited a minute for the bacon. Gross. Took the waffle up to the counter and just asked for eggs. The atmosphere is very loud, even during slow times, thanks to a very loud staff. We no longer sit at the tables near the counter, because it's impossible to have a conversation over the loud staff conversations. I think Jason thought he was charming, he even mentioned a "rapport" with my husband and I. We didn't agree. He was demanding of our orders, rushed us, and was overly familiar at times (called me "love" after the waffle incident - not cool). Oh, and did I mention Jason almost hit me me picking up menus. The other server, that brought the waffle and bacon, almost hit my face with the hot coffee pot while reaching in front of me to warm it up. I have used all coupons for this place. I cannot go back. Like others have mentioned, it's ridiculously dirty, their practices are unprofessional, and its just an uncomfortable place to eat. I'd rather go to Village Inn.
