Unpopular opinion I believe but I didn't love this sandwich. I tried the spicy tuna melt. First comment it was huge, way too big for my liking but the bread was good. The tuna salad was just okay with too many fill ins and not enough focus and the cheese was definitely too pungent/sharp for a tuna melt. All of this is personal preference but I just didn't enjoy it. I think there are lots better sandwich shops throughout the city, and this was also expensive. read more

Opened in 2024 by a chef who previously worked at Michelin starred Eleven Madison Park. They wanted to bring fine dining techniques to classic deli sandwiches. I got the spicy tuna melt sandwich and it is HUGE. For $20 these sandwiches can last you both lunch and dinner. But on the sandwich itself, I could tell the ingredients were high quality. They went with something breaded/crispy that I thought was unique. But tbh I wasn't getting tuna melt from this. It wasn't that cohesive. I really like the Brown Bag Sandwich. This is a must visit spot if you are craving a delicious sandwich. It's a small spot with limited seating, and I have heard it usually has a long line. I was lucky enough that I visited during a slower time. I ordered the spicy chopped cheese, which is a chopped cheese with hot peppers and hot sauce. OMG! The sandwich was enormous. I know you can get a chopped cheese in any deli or bodega in the city, but this one was truly delicious, and you get to watch them prepare it right in front of you. The interior is small, with only 6 hightop seats available. As a New Yorker, I knew I had to try the Chopped Cheese Sandwich. They also threw in a pickle which is always a welcomed extra! The bread is super fresh and soft; it kept the sandwich intact despite all the wet ingredients. This was very cheesy which of course tasted great but I couldn't really taste the quality or Lawry's seasoning in the ground beef. There's plenty of shredded iceberg lettuce which added a fresh crunch but it does slightly overpower the sandwich. Big fan of the bodega sauce and my only regret is not getting the spicy version of this sandwich! It's a well-made Chopped Cheese but it needed an additional element here which I think could've been accomplished with some hot peppers & hot sauce. Glad I got to try it! read more

Finally came here after the hype went down and could get in at around 4pm on a weekday for a very late lunch. I got the turkey club sandwich and wow it was delicious. The bread was soft but warm, lightly toasted, and the sandwich was STUFFED. It was also a little spicy thanks to the hot honey which was a nice touch and it was not your regular turkey club. They really took a basic usually uninspiring sandwich and made it something that I'm salivating thinking about having again. You can tell the meat quality was good but there was one problem: the sandwich was absurdly salty. Like, bordering on inedible salty for someone who enjoys a healthy dose of sodium in their sandwich. I was here at this tasty little sandwich place a while ago. The inside is quirky and they had free coffee and were quite busy inside making sandwiches with at that point the Chopped Cheese being off menu and apparently their best option (which in hindsight makes perfect sense as they chop up everything) which I will get next time I stop inside as what I ordered doesn't exist anymore. People inside were friendly also. As said, the menu appears to have changed as the roast beef sandwich used to be a Hot Roast Beef and was around $17 I believe but I'm not positive. Said roast beef was cooked in au jus and had cheddar sauce, Branston pickle, and crispy onions which were on the side. The slightly salty and savory cheddar would have been a bit rich combined with the au jus and beef but the Branson pickle added the necessary tang and sweetness. The crispy fried onions were a fun extra though honestly I didn't need them. This was a very tasty sandwich overall and was well worth the price point with the portion size also being big. The roast beef is a little bit on the sweet side the buffalo chicken wasn't that saucy but it taste liked a clean chicken Caesar sandwich. For two of these sandwiches plus tax is $40 bucks. Looking for a chopped sandwich? This seems to be the place to come to. In the middle of the afternoon on a Saturday it was quiet so it didn't take long for my order. I ordered a chopped cheese and the chopped Italian. These seem to be the most popular but they do have a fairly good assortment of sandwiches. The sandwiches are 10" long. The bread is good - not hard to bite into and not too doughy. The Italian was definitely my favorite. By chopping up all the ingredients you get all the flavors in one bite. Good sammy. Have you ever seen the video of that lady showing off her mac n cheese, and she says "cheese all through the *****". It's like that. You're not getting any all-bread bites. So that part of the experience is perfect. The bread is good. The ingredients are good. There is a lot of flavor. As a turkey club head myself, it does feel a little off to eat it "chop" style. The Anthony Bourdain namesake sandwich creation was completely inedible. There is a small window to fry a thin sliced prosciutto properly before it becomes super salty dried up piece of leather. Not a good bite at all. When it is sliced so thin prosciutto only really need to touch the grill quickly before it dries out. Perhaps perfection was achieved with the construction of sandwich others received but mine wasn't. The line is currently insane. Be prepared to wait 30+ minutes minimum. When it first opened, Brown Bag was so busy it was impossible to even consider waiting in the hours long line. Now that the hype died down, and since it's one of the few places I know in the city that has gluten free bread and chop cheese in the same store, my boyfriend and I decided to walk in and grab two chop cheeses. Usually, the store actually doesn't do that particular sandwich on gluten free bread but I begged and they finally said yes. I liked the sandwich and it was much bigger than expected (more like 2 portions), but for twice the price of a bodega sandwich it wasn't mind blowing enough to be worth the extra cost for anyone who isn't allergic to gluten in my opinion. My boyfriend wasn't super impressed either. Overall, I do think the store has a fun concept of chopping all their sandwich ingredients and I would go back to try other sandwiches. The limited chicken sandwich (limited to 30) was sold out when I visited around 1:15pm. Quick and efficient services, sandwiches were on the pricey side for a grab and go deli but I guess you're paying for a premium I wish the sandwiches came with a pickle to cut through the heavy and salty flavors, so remember to buy them at the counter. Brown Bag Sandwich Co. is a new entrant in the highly competitive sandwich scene in New York City, and they've made quite the splash, with lines out the door not an uncommon sight prior to opening. Brown Bag takes a novel approach to the sandwich and borrows from the New York City staple of chopped salads by chopping all the fillings in their sandwiches before putting them in the bread. Italian? Chopped. BLAT? Chopped. Cuban? Chopped. Chopped cheese? Buddy you better believe that it's chopped. The store itself is located on the west side of the Village and is a tight space. Upon entry you can see the grill and sandwich assembly stations, with the cash register on the right. It has a distinctly vintage feel, with an old-school take a number dispenser, an old coffee machine, and classic Coca Cola signs with the menu hanging above, as well as stickers all over. There are a couple of counters with barstools, though most people will take their sandwiches to go (conveniently, Washington Square Park is nearby if you would like to make your meal into a picnic). The menu consists of hot and cold sandwiches, available on a hero, roll or in a wrap, as well as a few mayo based salads and a collection of chips/pretzels available by the register. The most popular sandwich, and the inspiration for the style of sandwich they make, is the Chopped Cheese, which sells out very quickly, as only a few dozen are made daily (this is why there are often lines upon opening). Of course, it is delicious. Perhaps my favorite option is the Italian, which incorporates fresh mozzarella and maximum flavor in each and every bite thanks to the chopped ingredients inside. The bread itself is very good as well, as is necessary for any good sandwich. Recently I've enjoyed have the macaroni salad on the side, which is also very well made, and is well balanced in flavor. Overall, a great sandwich shop with a unique twist on the sandwich. I can only find two faults: it's too popular, meaning you may need to wait in line for quite a bit, and their Cuban Sandwich (called a Cubano, incorrectly) does not have salami, which is an important component to the Cuban sandwich often missed by those who are only familiar with the inferior Miami variant of Tampa's greatest sandwich. Was very excited to stop by and try their chopped cheese and Italian, however, it turns out they close at 6:30 (not 7, which Yelp had initially posted...), so when I entered at 6:32 I was almost not served and they were not making any more chopped cheeses for the evening. I am very grateful that they did decided to make an exception and let me order, because I thouroughly enjoyed the Italian and pivoted to trying the Anthony Bourdain - which may have been the best sandwich I have tried all year!
