I have known about Brown's Bar-B-Que for a long time now. I just have not had a chance to come by the trailer. It used to be by a car wash, but it is now located next to Corner Bar. I guess I was a little apprehensive in going to a trailer at a car wash to get barbecue. I went with the three-meat plate today with the usual moist brisket, pork ribs, and sausage with cabbage and macaroni and cheese as sides. The brisket was super solid. It was moist and tender. The fat on it was luscious, and it had a nice meaty flavor. I do prefer a smokier brisket with a dark peppery bark, but I am not going to kick this brisket out of bed. The pork ribs stole the show. The rub/glaze was sweet and peppery. Just the way I like it. The ribs were meaty, tender, and juicy. The sausage was a commercial blend from Texas Sausage Company. Nothing noteworthy. The sides were excellent. The cabbage sounded healthy, but it was far from it. The bits of bacon did not help. The macaroni and cheese also had bacon in it. Not original pictured are the smoked chicken and peach cobbler. I ate some of the chicken from Mike's plate. It was really moist, but you can still taste some smoke from the post oak. It was the perfect balance. I can see why people rave about the chicken. I am not a sweets type of guy, but the peach cobbler was pretty tasty. I love the smells of a car wash. I am not sure why I have not gone by Brown's sooner when it was still there. Their prices are very affordable as well. The sausage they had today was not their usual custom blend. I did not get to try the pulled pork on this visit, but I will make that happen next time l go. On Sundays, they give away free barbecue if you order stuff from the bar at Corner. Free barbecue and alcohol? Win-win. read more

Here's the thing, there are a lot of solid Q spots in Austin and the surrounding area. I think this is one of the most underrated of the bunch. A lot of the bigger names get all sorts of press and praise, but you also get a half-day wait. I think that's just stupid. Do yourself a favor and head to Brown's. I ate at a couple BBQ places in Austin when I visited but this food truck was by far the best I've ever had. I still dream about this meal. The first time my friends and I tried to eat here they closed early because they ran out of food!! sadness. We were leaving the next morning and decided to stop by again before heading to the airport- best decision ever. The ribs are sooo tender and basically just fall of the bone into your mouth. Everyone talks about the brisket which by the way is amazing BUT the pullled pork was the best I have ever had!! Moist, tender and holy cow was it flavorful. Brown's is one of the most underrated BBQ joints in Austin. They are technically closed on Sunday, but swing by to see if they are serving free BBQ in conjunction with the Corner Bar. Austin has a burgeoning BBQ scene that is putting the heat on the regional favorites in Lockhart, Luling, Manor, and Taylor. Enter the unassuming Mr. Daniel Brown's pit skills. Seriously, five stars? Not at all for the location, lack of parking (just park in the 7-11 lot), scenery, etc. They're jammed in between a Jiffy Lube and Genie Car Wash on the east / north bound side of Lamar north of Oltorf. This is outstanding BBQ - I had the chicken and pork rib plate for $ 9.74 and got two sides - simmered cabbage and brown beans. The beans were solid, smokey, and meaty but forgettable; the cabbage was slightly sweet, tender, meaty, and delicious. BBQ: I demolished the big meaty spareribs with one wimpy plastic fork and easily separated every bit of meat off the bones and cartilage with gentle twists. These were perfect for my palate - moist, fall off the bone, smokey, nicely seasoned, and slightly sweet. This is the best pork rib I've had in Austin and tied with Franklin's for flavor and texture. Significantly better than John Mueller's (serviceable) and tons better than Stiles Switch (horrible). The chicken was a flavorful, smokey, crispy-skinned nice sized thigh that also just fell apart and could be eaten with one fork simply twisting the meat off bite by bite. Found this awesome bbq when it used to be in front of the Genie Car Wash and luckily they only moved right down the street. I haven't had a single bad experience with any of their food. All their meats are juicy and full of flavor. Im not usually big on bbq chicken but that is probably the one thing I get the most from Brown's, I definitely recommend it. Their mac and cheese with the bacon in it is a great side with the chicken. I don't think Ive ever had a wrap stuffed with so much meat either, they do not hold back on those things thats for sure. The ribs were okay, but not better than the best I've tried in California. The brisket was really tender and fatty. But I wasn't expecting that Texas bbq sauce would be really thin, orangey, and tomato-ey. There wasn't quite enough of it. The sausages were not good IMO. I tasted one piece and couldn't eat any more. The mac and cheese and slaw were good, but I've had much better. The cheese on the mac and cheese was much too plastic-ey. Huge disappointment. A friend said it was good. Me and the kids detoured by after swimming at Deep Eddy. Smelled great. The kids were starved after serious swimming. We were refused service because the kids are only 7 & 9 years old and not old enough to be patrons at the Corner Bar. These are good kids and they held it together pretty well but they were in anguish. This was the meanest, un-Austin thing I have ever seen done to little kids. It is not as if we crashed a catered wedding or something; they are right on South Lamar. 2 words: HOLY SH..T!! Browns has the best flavor of brisket I have ever had. It has a distinct flavor pallet that is semi-sweet with hints of paprika with heavy smoke flavor. The smoke taste is not overwhelming but, just right. The sausage is off the chart, get these 2 meats if you go. The wait at Franklin's is its own hype and not worth waiting for. SO incredibly underrated it's insane! Go here! My friend brought a group of us here last weekend and to be totally honest I was a bit disappointed when we pulled up because it looks like a food truck sitting in the parking lot of some bar. But then I looked a little closer and noticed the big a$$ smoker taking up more than half the truck. I got the brisket and it was next level good. The sides are delicious and you can go into the bar, grab a beer and sit inside or out. I know you came to Austin and want to go to Franklin's. And I'm not saying you shouldn't. Good luck showing up with food being cooked. They rarely have the items on the menu. This has happened a few times in the middle of the day. The evening rush hasn't hit yet and they're out of the best meats on their menu. I drove 20 minutes out of the way to be disappointed AGAIN. But I won't make that mistake again.
