Definitely an underrated gem. I had the brisket, chicken, and turkey accompanied by cole slaw, potato salad, and banana pudding. The brisket can easily hold its own among the BBQ legends in Central Texas, the chicken is some of the best smoked chicken I've had, and the turkey was solid. I thought the cole slaw and potato salad were good, but the banana pudding was other-worldly (i.e. do not miss the pudding)! We love BBQ and I had heard this is the best. I disagree. We got brisket and sausage. The brisket flavor is delicious. No sauce needed. The bark had great wood flavor - a hallmark of good BBQ. It was tender and moist but very, very, VERY greasy even for fatty brisket. The sausage had good flavor and a hand made quality. It did lack snap which is something I enjoy in BBQ sausage. It too was very greasy. The potato salad was delicious. Beans had great smokey flavor. Coleslaw was ok. Banana pudding wasn't great. Peach cobbler was inedible - sloppy mush. I mean really bad. The sauce had a nice mustard tang with a bit of smokiness. Definitely an original. I know a lot of people love this place and it's good. I thought it would be good, but I didn't know it would be this good! I had 2 meat - brisket and ribs. Both were excellent. I got 2 big ribs and so much brisket I couldn't finish it. If you open a BBQ place in ATX you're either very good or very dumb. Daniel Brown has proven himself to be another pit genius. I say another because let's face it, we're no stranger to excellent BBQ around here. The brisket and ribs I had today were truly excellent, some of the very best I've had. The potato salad and cabbage I give a solid 4, the pintos were good but should be cooked down more. I like them creamy. The chicken thighs though were 5 star! IMO, when it's done right, chicken makes the best BBQ'd meat. The skin is crispy and black, the meat becomes pulled chicken as soon as you bite it. Outrageously good! If you like BBQ, especially chicken, don't pass Brown's by. I gave him a 4 star rating but after meeting Daniel and his son DJ, the overall experience was very close to a 5. These guys are really lucky to get 4 stars from me. I showed up one night about an hour and a half before close. They were sold out of everything except Brisket, Sausage, Beans and Cabbage. So I got a double brisket plate with beans and cabbage for the sides. The brisket was great. Maybe 45 minutes undercooked but still really, really great. The sauce they served with it was tasty, but the brisket was almost perfect on it's own. The cabbage I enjoyed as well, although it definitely would've benefited from a good pinch of salt. And then... the beans. The served me cold beans that were terribly under seasoned unless you consider black pepper to be a substitute for salt. Inedible, I threw them away. All in all, I can't wait to go back for some BBQ! It's all about the meat, And from what i tasted they do it well! And, you won't wait more than 20-30 minutes when they are busy. read more

I would add a photo, but we ate it all before I knew what happened. Called ahead for 5# of brisket and it was ready to go when I got to the counter. Decided to add 2# of turkey breast after seeing the person in line ahead of me getting a plate. Both meats were juicy, tender, and super flavorful. This review is past due! Brown's is so delicious. They never disappoint whenever I visit. My favorite thing to order is the brisket. I bought a lb for my bf and I to share. We asked for the brisket to be mixed; some lean and some fatty. That was perfect for us. I can not find the words to describe how tasty it was. That is why you all should go taste for yourselves. I also ordered a corn on the cob on the side. It was delicious as well. They sprinkle seasoning on it to give it a little more flavor as well. That was a nice touch. Brown's is incredible, from their food to their service. What makes them even greater is there isn't a grossly long line to wait in. I was told this is the best BBQ spot in Austin without a crazy line, and not only was the food solid but there was literally no line. I did go on Friday during the day, so I can't attest to their weekend wait. Even then, I'd wait for food this good. The portions were plentiful (I got the two meat plate) and the sides (mac & cheese, potato salad) were great. The brisket fell apart perfectly and the sausage was a win as well. read more

Stop #4 on the Tour de Austin Brisket. I like the food cart atmosphere, but the brisket was a little below par relative to others I've tried thus far. I found it just a bit dry and lacking the bark texture that blends well with tender meat. Look forward to trying again at some point. read more

When I say I moved from Hawaii to Texas for the brisket (amonfsr other things but brisket was TOP) This is the place I could've only dreamt of. BROWNS should be considered the best BBQ in the U.S. Not Franklins. Puhlease, Franklins is way TOO overhyped and overrated.
