I've never waited on line for the donuts because I always eat in. Eat them hot. Get the six-donut sampler. Get at least two of the cinnamon sugar. Then repeat as needed with a big cup of coffee. I really love Browns. I think they have great service. The decor might not be much, the booths might be small and the sanitary conditions might be questionable (but hey, you're by the beach. Best donuts on the boardwalk. Our family has been coming to Browns for close to thirty years and the quality is always the same, top notch. I remember when Browns was a hole in the wall. The one Donut machine was on the left and you could stand next to the machine separated only by glass and wait for your order. There was also a counter top and maybe three booths to sit for breakfast. Browns still has the same flavors that you remember as a kid. Chocolate, vanilla, honey, cinnamon sugar, powdered, and plain. Browns donuts are a 5-star. Best donuts in OC! I had a friend down this weekend, and he ate 6 because they were so good! Old-fashioned donuts at their best - no craziness, just plain good donuts. My favorites are chocolate iced, cinnamon sugar, and vanilla iced. The others are for ones who don't like sweets as much :) Lunch, etc, is 3 or 4-star. I've only ever had the doughnuts from Brown's Restaurant, and they are delightful! They come in a few varieties: plain old original, powdered, chocolate, cinnamon, vanilla glazed and honey glazed. They're all fresh out of the fryer and given to you in a styrofoam container when you get them to go. They're definitely basic, so if you want some artisanal hipstery doughnuts, head somewhere else. These things are incredible while fresh, hot on the inside and a little crisp. We got the cinnamon and the vanilla glazed donuts. The cinnamon was my favorite, but even better was spreading some of the vanilla runoff on top of the cinnamon doughnuts. My friends and I are truly doughnut innovators. Went here for the first time over the weekend. There was a huge line up the boardwalk for the donuts, but we were eating breakfast inside and there was no wait. Well,my family has been going to Brown's for the nine years that I have lived here; mostly for breakfast, over-rated donuts, and take-out lunch. I get take out lunch at Browns most weeks during the summer months. Today, I had to wait about 15 minutes for anyone to help me in the take-out area and finally the waitress in the pink shirt told me to go down to the other end of the counter. I waited and waited, right next to the owner who was folding utensils in paper napkins. Finally I asked one of the two waitresses just standing there if I could order take out. I ordered my usual pork roll sandwich and a coke (actually two-one for my husband). She checked with another waitress who said that I would have to wait at least another 30 minutes since they were still serving breakfast; it was 11:30, which is their stated lunch time. I asked why they couldn't make pork roll as that is a breakfast food and the owner told me that they couldn't turn over the grill from breakfast (pork roll??) and that i needed to go and come back later. I replied that I would not be returning. This is the same man who greets you so kindly when you come into the restaurant; what a phony. He could have easily asked the waitress to make the sandwich for me since it WAS a breakfast food. They lost an entire family of Brown's customers over such a ridiculous time issue. i could understand if I wanted a hamburger, but this was a breakfast food and I heard the waitress tell another man to leave as well. Both of us were pretty puzzled at this complete lack of customer service. The owners may think that their name will always carry them through, but people, and life, are fickle. Oves, two blocks away, will be getting this family's business from now on. read more

The fact that there is a line rain or shine, hurricane or a beautiful skies, tells it all. We've been going to Ocean City every year since 1995, and Browns is a must every year....hopefully more than once. This place is my favorite restaurant. Maybe I'm biased and love going to the beach, so the environment right on the boardwalk with the fresh ocean breeze going through the windows is already a win. Plus the food is great and the donuts, as you've heard, can't be beat. The waits go pretty fast, and the service is great. Mostly friendly high school/college kids down there for the summer working and they are all really friendly. If you're in Ocean City, this is the place to be. read more
