I was a bit disappointed to see that there weren't many vegetarian options but our server pointed out that several of the entrees could be made without meat. Nevertheless, I ordered the Vegan Hash which had tofu. I was well pleased with the variety of veggies in the dish which was well seasoned. There were more jalapenos than I prefer, but I just opted to not eat them. There was twice as much food as any one person could possibly eat at one sitting, which I find a bit annoying. I still don't understand the trend of overfeeding diners. My companion had the cinnamon and brown sugar waffles which looked light and fluffy. She gave them a big thumbs up. I have two complaints. Great food and AMAZING service. Our server explained the food very well and was enthusiastic, positive and prompt. I don't remember her name but she had short pixie cut hair. The food took about 35 minutes to come out and people who ordered after us got food before us, but they did have a lot going on as it was a Saturday. Food was very flavorful and yummy! Great GF, Dairy Free and vegan options. I will definitely be recommending people to come check this spot out. This is just an added note from an outsiders perspective. I have no idea what their procedures are but as someone in the service industry there were a few kinks. There host was not being the most efficient with her seating. There were nearly 3-4 tables at all times that needed bussed. At one point there was a party of 3 and then a party of 4. A table that seats 4 was open, while a table for 3 was about to be ready to bus. Rather than seating the table of 4 quickly at the table ready for 4 people and letting the table for 3 know they will be sat very shortly, they held up the wait line. The bar was also wide open for a majority of our wait time even after multiple people asked if that was open seating. It might help the kitchen out if there was more of an easy flow of seating and helps with less wait times, more covers during service. First time visit and was not disappointed with the food. The chicken and biscuits was well cooked, well seasoned and very satisfying. Could have done without the extra biscuit, but not complaining. The tamale waffle was outstanding, sounds odd but has a very balance of flavor, not too spicy and just enough acid to make it delightful to chow down on. We also shared the bacon sticky bun, with the cream, it was a very rich and good bite. The service is very friendly, but needs some organization and leadership. Everything about this meal was great. COVID regulations were great and well thought out, and the food was DELICIOUS. My partner had the Apple cider mimosa with his verde hash and I got the PNW mule with my brunch burger. The Bruncheonette is absolutely fantastic. The service is awesome, and I love the Doma coffee served to the table in a French press. Outstanding. The fried chicken sandwich: I ordered it with excitement, and I was blown away with the food. Fried chicken that is not greasy, yet extremely juicy. The brioche tasted freshly baked and fluffy, and the sauce was on point. Verde hash: extremely generous portion, and delicious. Not soggy, but plenty of sauce and salsa. My wife and I came in to eat around noon on a Sunday recently. The hostess, who looked absolutely miserable and bothered by our presence, told us it would be 45 minutes to an hour wait. Many people came in to inquire about availability but left due to the long wait time, which didn't seem to be a factor. 10 minutes into our wait many tables opened up, but no one was clearing these tables. It seemed that this task was left to the hostess who was attempting to juggle her duties up front and clearing tables. Once the tables were cleared we continued to sit and stare at many available seats. Why weren't we being seated? Lack of available servers? I couldn't tell. Eventually, we were brought to our seats and to our dissatisfaction, our wait continued. No water, no server. We just sat there and watched as servers passed us and didn't give us so much as a "hello" or "we'll be right there." When our sever arrived she looked beyond flustered. No eye contact. A forced smile here and there. After she received our order I took a closer look at how the staff was operating. Now, working as a server/bartender for 20+ years I was confused at a few things. Such as, why were the servers making their own drinks? I could see it was busy. Any restaurant serving brunch on the weekends can guarantee to be slammed. Why weren't there any bussers? No bartender? There didn't seem to be a shortage of servers. It appeared to be a free for all. No order to which server was helping a certain area. Despite the chaotic operations, our food was spectacular. It came promptly and was delicious. Top marks! But I am less than enthusiastic to recommend this place to someone solely based on the poor service. In all of my time in the restaurant business I found that people are willing to let a lot of things slide if you simply give them reassurance. Let them know you're apologetic. That you'll be with them in just a moment. These gestures go a long way. Also, hire a darn bartender and bussers. I understand that acquiring workers costs money. But you will lose customers and possible revenue if you continue to operate in this fashion. I do not wish to see you fail. Distribute your workers properly and if they don't like what they do or where they are at, perhaps this is a reflection of how they feel about working for this establishment. read more

Wow.. what a treat! After eating a terribly bland breakfast the day before, we decided to venture out after reading Bruncheonette's website. As vegetarians who believe in the right to a living wage, we were compelled to support this business. Bruncheonette proudly advocates their staff by providing a living wage and treating them well. Our kind server exemplified the result of such support by her sincere enthusiasm for her workplace, the dedication of the chef/s, the delicious food, the humanity of the place and why she had been working there 6 years AND enjoying it. The food was EXCELLENT. The hollandaise sauce was like nothing I have ever tasted. The combinations of flavors was to be applauded. We needed to be distanced/masked (due to health issues) so they kindly seated us on the patio and were respectful, quick and courteous. When a staff member enjoys her work, loves her chef and boss, and adores their efforts - there is everything to be praised. I am thrilled we supported this place. It's always pleasantly busy there and there are always people of all ages (including kids) which is so nice! The prices are good especially since there is enough to take home and eat again! I am a HUGE fan of their business model (the service charge) - having been a cook before, it is hard work, a labor of love, it requires skill and care, and worth tipping just as much as front of house. I have noticed after a few visits a couple of things- consistency of food quality and execution (very high) and consistency of staffing. Ripoff alert. After dining here and almost double-tipping again on TOP of the 16% service charge they slip onto the bill, on a hunch, I asked 3 friends and family (who each went there on separate trips) if they had gotten tricked into double-tipping as well. All 3 said yes. I then asked if any of their servers had verbally pointed out that the tip was already included, and all 3 said no. So I'm just going to assume that the majority of folks who eat here get similarly tricked into double-tipping. Which I'm also going to assume is no accident. They "politely decline" (their words) ANY substitutions, which is kind of like when someone tells you "I don't want to insult you, but... " and then proceed to insult you. But I can live with that because they serve good food. But the deal-killer for me is that they seem to willfully trick a fair percentage of people into double-tipping. And I think it is deliberate and here is why: Typically, a restaurant receipt has the items, then the subtotal, then the tax, then the total. But THEIR receipt puts the "service fee" right where the tax normally goes, between the subtotal and the total, then adds the tax in parentheses down below the total. So if unless you read the entire receipt you're duped. And of course the credit card slip still has a place for a tip. It is blank... as in "you have not yet tipped". read more

We order coffee, the Shrimp and Grits and a side of pepper bacon. The service was good but not overbearing. It was a tad slow on coffee refill but they were packed. The drop coffee was strong and tasted like an African blend. They include Sugar in the Raw in their sweetener bin which I appreciate. You receive a bottle of water at your table which makes it nice for refilling your water glass. On the entree, man was this delicious. The shrimp was seasoned nicely and cooked perfectly. Small bits of sausage were mixed in and the grits were NOT instant. The sauce/seasoning was delicious and the heat built up as you ate. If you like spicy food, you will enjoy this dish. We were surprised at how much flavor was in a grits dish. The bacon came very crispy and dry, which is our preference. Went here for brunch with my girlfriend on a Saturday afternoon and left not too happy. Pros: Server was polite and efficient, food was really good and they leave a water decanter at your table. Cons: We got our bill and had a wonderful little suprise, a 16% service fee for our table of 2 (without any prior notice of the fee). They say the fee gets split among all staff on hand (different from a servers tip). My girlfriend, who was once a server, was just as furious as me. Here's a crazy idea, how about adding a second "tip" line for customers to tip the staff at their discretion. Or even better, raise your prices 16% on the front-end and pay your fricken employees better. his is completely not their fault at all but they do not know how to do a French press. My thoughts on this are that if you're going to offer this on the menu then at least know a tiny bit about coffee. The server put way too little actual coffee in the French press so no matter how long it brewing it was still light brown water. The purpose of the French press is to be able to control how long and how strong the coffee would be. This is very different from regular drip coffee. She argued with me saying that I didn't order the correct roast. I just asked to exchange it for drip coffee then ended up getting coffee later on down the street. Again, just learn how to do a French press if you're going to offer it in a restaurant. Lastly, and this is my biggest complaint, they force a service charge on the bill that is separate from the tip you're expected to leave. They claim that this is for the entire staff but then you're expected to leave a tip on top of that which you end up leaving about 30 or 35% when all is said and done.
