This place has been open for less than a week and is off and running. The entire menu looks amazing! The white wine and garlic moules were very good and they have a decent selection of Belgian beers. This was our first time visiting and I must say we were wowed! The food was amazing! We had the brussels sprouts for an appetizer, by far the best we've ever had, and we get them in pretty much every restaurant that has them. My husband had the Pork Shank as his main course and I had the Meatballs. We have plenty of leftovers as it is a lot of food. So good!!!!!! The service was exceptional, our waiter was Kyle, he was so efficient and it's not a bad thing that he looks like a younger Bradley Cooper. Highly recommend. We will be back!! read more

My husband and I throughly enjoyed our first visit to Brussels Bistro. We were impressed by everything, from the ambiance, to the food, and by the excellent staff. Kyle, our waiter, steered me to the gluten free items that were available. I loved that their frites are gluten free. Yay! No cross contamination issues! For my main entree I chose a warm quinoa salad. It made for a delicious filling meal. My husband chose the spaghetti bolognese which he said was excellent. For dessert we shared the only gluten free item available, the chocolate mousse. It was delicious. Kudos to Brussels Bistro. Welcome to San Clemente. Last night was my third time eating at Brussels in San Clemente. I have to admit that when it first opened and I looked at the menu I didn't think I would enjoy anything oOMG the food is absolutely amazing. My favorite is the pork shank. My husband loves the paella and he says it better than the paella he's had in Spain. Last night a girlfriend and I went to dinner at Brussels and we had the best server. I have to give a shout out to Chad. He made my friends first experience at Brussels so memorable. I will definitely be asking to sit in Chads section from now on. Was excited to see a new restaurant on Del Mar! Came for lunch. The menu selection is a bit different. I thought for lunch and even for dinner it was very pricey! I don't recall the name of what I had. It was quinoa with veggies and cheese. I added chicken. It was not only difficult to cut but had a rubber like texture. I could not eat it. The quinoa, veggies and cheese were good but not great and not worth the price. For dessert I had a crepe with ice cream and chocolate sauce. This was delicious. The service was good! The iced tea refiller was great!!! Also decor is beautiful! I might just go back for a drink or dessert. read more

It doesn't get much better than this. Suffice to say that our waiter Kyle delivered top-notch service and his recommendations were spot-on. From the mussels to the beef stew and everything in-between (including the delicious Belgian tap and bottled beers that Kyle recommended), we had a great time. Suggestion to the chef: How about offering a non-pork version of the Paella. Well worth the drive up from San Diego, which is what we did. Mussels are excellent. Basket of fries rather stingy and these are definitely NOT Belgian fries. Rather they seem to come from Costco (despite being fried in steak fat) and why do I need to ask for ketchup and mustard since real Belgian frittes don't require such condiments. Menu is small and seating is limited unless you want to wait for a seat at the bar. I give this place two years before they they throw in the towel. read more

How does a restaurant that specializes in Mussels, run out of Mussels at 6:45 on a Saturday night! It is like In and Out saying they are out of Burgers! Not to mention that the wine list had a total of 6 red wines on the list ( low quality)and they will not let you bring your own. Maybe that is due to COVID. Not sure, but frustrating. We normally love the restaurant. I guess because of COVID. I will probably try again. Disappointing! We talked to the Manager. When I asked her how they could be out of Mussels at 6:45 on a Saturday night. Her response was "I don't know". We asked why we did not receive complimentary bread, her response made no sense but said they had to charge because of COVID! What!!! I give up. read more

We were disappointed in the food. We started with bitterballen meat croquettes which were zero flavor. The wife got the salmon and it was like a soup, not good. Some friends and I met down at Brussels today for lunch. Personally I have never been there before, but was highly recommended from a client of mine. Brussels did not disappoint! Just stopped in for a glass of wine with my wife over the weekend to check out this new place in our little town. We talked to many patrons all giving the food and beer thumbs up. This is a long overdue review. I've been here many times and the food and service is always fantastic! I have not been here for a few months due to the pandemic but my husband and I went there last night and their standards had not slipped. A must try is the mussels (all are delicious), mushroom soup and carbonara. The staff is always friendly. A few days ago, while on our annual vacation to San Clemente, I introduced my teenage nephew to oysters (he wasn't a fan) and I said to him, "Next we will find some escargot for you." I didn't expect the chance to come during this trip, however while meandering down Del Mar with my family (who are very unadventurous eaters) I saw the former Selma's pizza spot had been transformed. I took a peak at the menu posted outside and saw they had escargot. They were all hesitant, they hate trying new things, but I herded them into a window seat. I was thrilled with the selection of beers on tap and it took a while to finally decide on a Grimbergem Dubbel. Great choice. Served in the correct glass at the correct temperature. I knew I was going to order the escargot as an appetizer, and it took some time to decide what to order as both the Sunday brunch menu and the regular menu offered a wide variety of temptations. I finally decided to go the route of Mussels and frites as it is a very traditional Belgian meal. My family took a bit longer to decide but eventually each of them found something that appealed to them. As I said my mother, niece and nephew are unadventurous. My niece said, "I'm not sure I want to eat things I can't pronounce" Mom got the creamy chicken and mushroom over puff pastry, niece the Brussels burger and nephew the chicken sandwich. When the sandwich arrived my teenage nephew took out his phone and said, "I don't want to be one of those food instagramers but this is really pretty food." After his first bite he said, "It tastes even better than it looks." No one was disappointed in their meal, especially not me. My nephew didn't get an escargot - they were too good to waste on a reluctant diner and he was more than happy to eat the fries anyway. Service was wonderful, everyone was attentive and ahead of the game. For example, the kids had eaten all the rustic bread that was served with butter and our server noticed and brought a few more slices "for the garlic butter from the escargot. It was perfect. I wish I lived in San Clemente so I could visit more than twice a year. read more

So disappointed. Love the Laguna Beach location. Unfortunately, everything we ordered was disappointing. Went here for a birthday celebration with three other people all wanting to share different dishes and ordered the large pot of mussels. The broth was really, really bland. No taste what so ever. Ordered the beef salad. 4 slices of really, really thin beef maybe 2 inches long served on a huge bed of lettuce with a very bland dressing. Also ordered the meat and cheese plate. The serving of the three different kinds of cheese was ridiculous. Beyond small and so NOT worth the price. It was seriously a joke. read more

This place was alright, the service was weird. Had a male server who was so awkward and didn't know much about the menu when my girlfriend and I asked him for ordering tips. The seating was also weird the entire inside of the restaurant was empty but they packed us in at the outside area so I had people right next to me. If you are a foodie or if you just really like to be treated well and enjoy your food, this place is fantastic. I drool just thinking about it. It is not inexpensive, but their lunch special of mussells and twice baked fries is spectacular and very reasonably priced. I ate the escargot - delicious, but for some reason I had difficulty getting them out of their shells, so I asked the waiter to have the chef take them out for me. Not only did they do that, but they also reheated them - without changing the texture or flavor - so that they would be hot when they got to the table. Also had their degustation of oysters in which they give you 3 of each to taste. They were both delicious, although I did slightly prefer one over the other. They are a little pricey on the oysters, but they were delicious and the sauce they provided for dipping was out of this world. Never had a sauce like it and I wish they would bottle it. I am allergic to tomatoes and often have issues with limited sauce options - not here. They had many choices, both for the oysters and the mussells. The mussells' sauce was so good, I just spooned it up till it was all gone. Oh yes, their bread is also good. I ate there last week and am going back tomorrow with a friend to eat again. Also had a very good glass of wine - I described what I like in a wine and they brought me a taste of their recommendation and it was spot on. Lastly, if you appreciate friendliness and incredible accommodation to make you comfortable, this is the place. read more

They built this awesome outdoor deck just this week (7/15/2020) in San Clemente to keep everyone safe and have plenty of seating. They are serving great food and drink, it was awesome to see them up and running! While you're in town, make sure to visit the local shops too, many are open. read more
