However Dmitri didn't give up and successfully managed to tighten the parts after applying sealant. Since it was still warm outside, we didn't use the heater until 4-5 days later when Dmitri came back to verify the sealant he used had cured properly. Then sometime in February Conrad texted me about a promotion they had for a tune-up and maintenance service. Happy to accept and Leo came and performed the verification. Great they could accommodate my time as well: again a Saturday.

I then asked him directly, "Have I done business with you before?" No response. So I asked again. No response. It turns out, I have no record of doing business with Conrad Heating & Cooling, because we have never done business with this company! I told him I would not be scheduling anything with Conrad. This representative didn't even know what type of unit we have, confirming there was no prior relationship. The familiar tone of the initial text was a deliberate tactic to create a false sense of trust. And I find that very offensive! I'd encourage other homeowners, especially seniors who are frequently targeted by this kind of approach, to read unsolicited texts carefully. If a company implies they've worked with you before, ask specific questions before agreeing to anything. In this case, the deception became obvious very quickly.

During the installation, they drilled through a structural beam in a way that created an inspection problem and ultimately cost me **several thousand dollars in additional structural engineering work** to get the project approved. Now we're in the **very first summer this cooling system has actually been used**, and it has already broken. I contacted them expecting them to stand behind their work, and they are refusing to fix it. So, to recap: their installation created a costly structural problem during construction, and now the brand-new cooling system they installed has failed during its first season of use -- and they won't take responsibility for repairing it. Our neighbor recommended calling 72 degrees. They sent someone out at 8AM the next morning. The furnace failed again later that evening. Companies like Specialty Heating & Cooling are contributing to this problem with pricing practices that, in my view, take advantage of customers. Last week, I noticed an unusual noise coming from our furnace. I had a good idea of what it might be, as I dealt with the same issue when we lived in a different home. I called Specialty Heating & Cooling and scheduled an appointment. The technician arrived on time, and within five minutes, the diagnostics confirmed exactly what I suspected. That's when I was told there was a $189 diagnostic fee--something no one had mentioned when I scheduled the visit. I paid it, but I made it clear that this had not been disclosed. The technician said he would call after the Thanksgiving weekend with a repair estimate. On Monday, he contacted me and asked for my email. When I requested the total cost of the repair, the quote was $1,186.43. I asked for an explanation of how they justified charging nearly $1,200 for a part that retails for about $142, installs with three screws, and takes less than 30 minutes to replace. Unfortunately, no clear explanation was provided. If their quote had been anywhere near reasonable--say, up to $500--I would have approved the repair immediately. I spent a total of 15 minutes removing and reinstalling that part. The entire process required removing and replacing only three 1/4-inch screws. Given how quick and simple the job was, I'm struggling to understand why the charge was so high. This level of work does not justify the price that I was quoted. However, at this price, I strongly suggest exploring alternatives before calling Specialty Heating & Cooling, unless you're comfortable paying far more than what the job is worth.
