I am highly disappointed with the service provided by Specialty Heating and Cooling. We had them install a new furnace in July. The bid was competitive with others I received and I really enjoyed my interactions with our sales advisor Nic. He did a thorough assessment of our needs and equipment and took accurate measurements. He was professional, courteous, and arrived on time. This, along with my coworker's recommendation, tipped the decision in their favor. The problems started during the installation, The install team arrived on time, but were anything but courteous and professional. The lead installer was put out that I asked them to wear shoe covers when they entered the main floor of the house. About an hour and a half into install they began playing music at a very high volume. I figured, ok this will help them be happier while they work, so I donned my headphones and continued on with my workday. I was so wrong. The install was extremely sloppy. Sealant had been slapped on and had dripped onto the floor, basement columns, and areas on the equipment that it should not have been applied. Our condenser coil housing that rests atop the furnace was now uneven which could cause issues with draining when the AC is running. Metal straps that provide stability had been haphazardly applied and screw holes that had been uncovered or recently used had not been sealed. The old condensate line, which was being replaced, was only partially removed. They also damaged my basement steps and door when they were removing the old equipment. Overall, this install was done with very little care given to our property and left us with unsightly equipment we were now frightened to use. We immediately reached out to our sales advisor who profusely apologized and one of the co-owners, Cory, arrived the next day to assess the damages. We then had to wait a week to have them come out and fix all the issues. Luckily, this wasn't during a heatwave, but a week is a long time to wait when you can't use your equipment for fear that by using it you will damage it. The dripped sealant was cleaned up and the uneven, sloppy sealant application along the seams was tidied up. All the screw holes were sealed and the remaining condensate line was removed. Cory offered to reimburse us for the damage to our steps and door, but when it came to the inconvenience and possible damage to our condenser coil he refused to take responsibility. He adamantly refused his company's culpability in unbalancing the condenser coil and offered to fix it in lieu of providing us reasonable compensation for our inconvenience. He also offered to install our thermostat with no charge even though that was already in our contract. It took them two weeks to finally make good on the thermostat install. And we did receive the check for the damages, but not without a lot of back and forth and belligerence and condescension on Cory's end. I do have to say that the equipment does seem to be working well now. We have stayed very comfortable during the extreme heat, but we have yet to test the heating functionality. Even though it seems like everything did turn out fine, I cannot in good conscience recommend this company and I urge you to take your business elsewhere. This bad install took over a month to resolve and caused us stress and worry all along the way.

proof of the appointment I requested.

*Specialty: Do not contact me to change, deny or remove this review! I have noticed this is what you do with bad reviews.** I'm officially done with dealing with this company! The problem started when I came home to the smell of gas and called the gas company. We were told that there was a leak because of a crack on the furnace because condensation had built up so we immediately contacted Specialty as they installed the furnace. And while the crack was created by how poorly they installed it, they would not admit it ("we should have called them earlier") and we were unable to claim it with your insurance. Foolishly (while still hoping we could get the furnace replaced through our insurance), we used Specialty to replace the furnace ($6k!!!). Then we find out that the furnace they ordered for us without proper measurement would not fit through the opening to our crawl space. Because of this and because it was the middle of winter with an infant in the house, we had no choice but to allow them to tear apart our door frame and wall to allow them to install the furnace that day (I hope to share photos of damage). This was brand new construction so I was not happy to have our nice new room damaged already. Fast forward a few years later, I notice the fan is running for an usual amount of time without heating or cooling so I decide we should have the out for servicing again. I make an appointment online and receive contact and confirmation by email. Appointment day and time comes. Nobody shows up so I call the company and they tell me there is no appointment. I'm am livid! Andrew actually tells me this was because their phones are busy with appointments the last couple days so the guy problem forgot to write it down. No. this was made two weeks ago online and then confirmed through email (see photos). I tell him how disappointed we are about their company and he suggests that since I dislike them so much, I shouldn't call them anymore. Of course I won't!! Let's not hope this new furnace is broken already which is the only reason why I called them to come back in the first place. Don't be fooled by their fake four star reviews.

The installation crew working to install new supply vents. The second guy is there with a vacuum. Left very little if any debris around.

Cory looked at it and determined that the furnace was fine and still had plenty of life in it We were relieved and appreciative.

My most recent experience perfectly illustrates why they are my go-to plumbers. Our hot water heater began leaking over the weekend. It's such a relief to have a team you can trust for over a decade. They are professional, prompt, and their work is always high-quality. The water suddenly stopped running in my house - well, not exactly, it would run for a few seconds and then stop. I asked my neighbors and their water was all running fine. Portland Water Bureau said it wasn't their problem. So I called Sutherland Plumbing randomly, and we did some trouble shooting over the phone. It looked like it may be a VERY expensive issue in the pipe between the house and the street. Ti Sutherland found a time to come by, since this was kind of an emergency since we couldn't shower, and he found the problem in just a couple of minutes. Turned out it was only the HOT water that was being stopped, and it was a janky flood prevention device that had been installed with the water heater. The batteries died and it shut off the flow. Replaced the batteries, and boom! We're all fixed. Ti actually got a big kick out of the whole process. Solving problems is his bag. Highly recommend.

The one company that will will take me on will not write in a water sewer backup clause, and there is no way I would not have that coverage. Due to the bathtub faucet not being put back together correctly, I had flooding in my kitchen, bedroom closet and master bathroom. Because the tile could not be matched, the entire bathroom had to be redone. Not only did I have 6 months of disruption/construction in my house, I'm now going to pay more in insurance and I don't have the ability to change my insurance without high risk to me financially. I do not recommend this company. Nobody ever reached out to me after the damage, however they did call the Flood Pros without telling me that they had done so when I called in a panic on a Saturday night. The initial reason I called them was to fix an bathtub faucet that was dripping in the tub, and I ended up with a disaster.

Their quote came in the lowest and Brandon was extremely helpful on the phone, so I ended up choosing them. - The quote process was great: I submitted their online form, they gave me a call asking for more details, I sent them a few pictures, and they gave me another call with solutions and a quote. The quote also happened to be the cheapest of the 3 companies I got bids from. - The installation went very smoothly. I understand that direct vent water heaters are a little tricky to install, but Brandon installed perfectly. He arrived on time, got rid of our old water heater, and added a new water heater with several fixes: the overflow pipe now runs to the sink, he used a "flex vent" kit so the water heater can sit on the ground, and he put the water heater in a tray to reduce issues from slow leaks since I don't have a basement drain. - After the install, Brandon taught me how to change the temp / turn the water heater off / how to flush it / how to change the anode rod. Very pleased with the work and my new water heater is working flawlessly. The only downside was that there was no permit. I'm no expert on permits. Portland's website says that water heater changes require a permit. Brandon said it's a "gray area" for residential. I am not planning on selling the house and things looked good to me, so I don't mind too much.
