We were driving in the New Hyde Park area of Tampa and getting hungry after some early shopping and drive by this place with a sign that states this is the best original Thai food in Tampa. So, we have to try it. Royal Palace Thai has been around for a long time in Tampa. The atmosphere is very old. Antiquish, if there is such a word. Kind of small and it has an indoor and outdoor seating areas. Indoors smells a little musty so we ate outside. However, it seemed clean. The menus are old too and most of the prices are covered. I would recommend looking at their online menu for their prices. A few others also came in at the same time as us so there was a short wait to place our orders. I ordered the Pad Thai with Chicken. My wife ordered their Pork with vegetables and garlic sauce and rice. It took about 10 minutes for our orders to come out to the table. Nice and simple presentation. Small servings when compared to other Thai restaurants in the area. However, once we started to eat the food, a surprised look came onto our faces. This was really delicious. I mean the Pad Thai was the best I have had in the Tampa area. And my wife's dish was so tasty. We thoroughly enjoyed the meal, finishing everything on our plates. This was the first time that we have not asked for takeout containers at any restaurant in Tampa. Wow! One thing to be concerned with is that their prices are a bit higher than other similar restaurants for a smaller portion. Each of our dishes cost $17 each. That is higher than what we have spent on with other places. But if you like Thai food and the best Pad Thai in the Tampa area, drop on by to this little gem. read more

Delicious Thai food with some authentic flavor. Food comes out fast and enjoyed the basil chicken with medium spice. Sauce was great so I made sure to finish it using the Thai red rice that I asked for with the entree. Will look to return next time I'm in Tampa. Well we were ready for a super great meal but no seating inside and of course I don't like sweating or dealing with pollution from a busy street outside or swarming flies hovering over my meal. We were promptly seated out side and the waitress disappeared with the water order for about 10 minutes and then must have forgot to get our meal order after another 15 minutes . I am sorry but when you and another person is the only customer in this Royal palace Thai, the best you can do is good service and food. Right now they're only offering outdoor seating- which is totally fine by me! It's less than 10 tables so they get busy pretty quickly and it seems like it's a very small family team running the lace, splitting time between taking phone orders, helping in the kitchen and running food out. We ordered the appetizer sampler, yellow curry and crispy basil duck. The flavors were great, although I do think the portion size was a little small for the price. Ordered the duck 5 spicy and I'd say it was more 3-4 level. The curry was delicious. The appetizer plate was served super hot and crispy and was very good. Love that they use the smooth, thin wrappers like Vietnamese egg rolls instead of the thick bubbly kind they usually use at Chinese restaurants. It's good considering it's the only Thai place in this area of soho, so great if you're in the neighborhood. I'd definitely eat there again! read more

I ordered takeout from Royal Palace Thai yesterday evening (two green curries and one Panang curry). I was staying at the Epicurean Hotel a couple blocks away. After picking up my order from this restaurant, I walked carefully back to the hotel and was dismayed to discover upon opening the bag that the restaurant had improperly packaged one of the curries resulting in all the liquid to spill out of the box into the plastic bag. The other two curries had been packaged in appropriate leak-proof containers. Why the third was packaged in a different container (an easy to spill/box) was a mystery to me. I immediately called the restaurant and explained what had happened. The woman that answered the phone told me that it was entirely MY fault that the container had leaked. She refused to offer me a refund or to remake the curry for me for free. I definitely will not be dining here again and strongly recommend that you go elsewhere based this negative experience. read more

I find myself returning to Royal Palace Thai time and time again and it's not because it's the only place around. While their prices have gone up, quality of food has increased as well, which is why Royal Palace deserves a review update. I I typically only order take-out from this Thai joint, but dining in their restaurant is a great choice for those seeking a quiet dining experience; at Royal Palace, you won't hear any loud playing music and scarcely will you be forced to dine near a loud boisterous table. It is clear that regulars of Royal Palace do not visit for the ambiance but more for the authentic quality of their Thai food. My go-to dish is the Panang Curry with chicken (medium spicy). All of their dishes come with plenty of fluffy Jasmine rice, but should you desire more, they will happily bring you an additional portion upon request. Their vegetarian spring rolls is a must order as a starter - they are lightly fried and perfectly crisp, accompanied by the standard Thai sweet chili sauce for dipping. If I'm ever feeling under the weather or find myself coming down with a cold, their chicken and rice soup is my absolute FAVORITE remedy. I don't know why - it is probably the most basic sounding soup one can imagine but it is so good. It's served with a respectable amount of chicken in a tasty broth and is sprinkled with scallions (NOT cilantro, thankfully). Royal Palace Thai has been around the South Tampa area for a long time - if you live close, chances are you have been here. I would recommend trying it again if you gave up on it due to service. Take-out is just as good and you can eat it in the privacy of your own home. read more

We went on a Saturday night for dinner. It was 75% full. They have free parking in their attached lot. They have two menus. If you want lighter fare, ask for that menu. They have small plates on it. We ordered pork wontons to start. The pork had good flavor and was served with a soy sauce. The Amazing Chicken: sliced chicken that is breaded and fried and topped with a delicious peanut sauce. Sometimes peanut sauce can be very thick....not here. I liked it because it wasn't over powering with the peanut flavor. The veggies were fresh and mixed in with the chicken. They have a small bar that seats about 5 people. Service was okay. They were slow to greet us, but once we ordered the food came out in a timely manner. It looked like locals were dining here. We ordered the spicy noodles and the spicy fried rice. I also ordered some panang curry sauce on the side. My honest opinion was that the food was alright. The noodles were good but it felt like it was missing something. The fried rice tasted really good since I had the panang curry sauce on the side. The portion size is very small here. It felt like we were getting appetizers. Usually Thai restaurants load the plates with a good portion but that was not the case here. My friend ordered the tofu curry dish but the tofu curry was served in a plate rather than a bowl so there was more tofu and vegetables but not enough curry for the rice. I would give the food 3 stars but because of the portion size, I give it 2 stars. read more

Great Thai restaurant nestled in busy SoHo. First off they do offer outdoor seating only, so it is limited and their parking situation is very slim, with about 10 spaces. They're super busy with take out orders but staff is friendly. Food was good-- we had spring rolls and fried tofu to start off and ordered pad see ew, spicy fried rice and pad Thai. Great quality and portion sizes are perfect. One thing about Thai food is that many places give you and over abundance of food-- not a bad thing-- but when you're a foodie, this really limits how much you'll order. This place nails portion size, making sure you have enough to be full and doesn't go overboard. Hope others enjoy this place as much as we did. read more

This place is run by a group of sisters. Some of them are always present working hard to make sure you get a good meal. This is a fantastic Thai restaurant. I really like that before your lunch entree you are given soup. It will either be vegetable pieces in broth (so-so), chicken and rice (yum!), or wonton soup (the best!). I'm really partial to their noodle dishes (pad ba me or pad see ew). They are delicious. They're always good about asking about how spicy you want your food. I love Thai food but hate spicy food (say what?) so that's something that I always have appreciated. If you like Sushi they have a Sushi bar and there's also a large selection of alcohol and spirits you can choose from. If the weather is decent it's nice to sit out on the porch and watch South Tampa in action. I can't get enough of their food. The parking situation is dreadful, but that's South Tampa for you and not their fault. read more

Royal Palace Thai is nearby my office so my coworkers and I order take-out from here frequently. I usually order the Green Curry with chicken. This dish is so fragrant and flavorful and contains green curry paste sautéed with coconut milk, bell peppers, vegetables and bamboo shoots. I also like the Red Curry, Pad Thai, and Basil Chicken. All of these dishes are so good that I keep ordering them over and over again! I most recently tried the Yum Beef Salad: very yummy! The spicy chili dressing is amazing and makes the dish feel so much more exotic than salad. I like that so many of the dishes at Royal Palace Thai are on the healthier side, but the meals are still flavorful from all of the herbs and spices the chef cooks with. The restaurant uses fresh herbs and produce from local farmers markets when possible. The house soup is made from scratch every morning and it shows; this is some of the best soup! The mother-daughter duo that run the restaurant are always really nice and friendly. They must keep track of orders because they always know what I ordered last time. The parking lot is very small so you may have to park across the street during the lunch or dinner rush. read more
