HECK YES. What a treasure this place is. I had been meaning to come in for like a year and finally made it. You definitely have to dig, but there are some really nice pieces. The gallery (the pricey furniture in the back) is gorgeous. I found some really cool kitchen pieces and a super cute skirt WITH POCKETS. The staff was incredibly nice and helpful. I'd much rather come here than give my money to corporate Goodwill or discriminatory SA. I'll be back often. read more

This thrift store stands out from all the rest. Yes their prices are slightly higher, but always negotiable, and the quality, cleanliness, and selection are top-notch. This was the last place I visited on a circuit I'd made searching for a sport coat. There was nothing intersting in that area but this place is very large and well-packed with items to the point of the shelves near overflowing. It doesn't seem to occur to the people running this business why the inventory has become so grossly overstocked. Indeed, the price of every comparable item found was at least twice as much as any other shop. There's an irrational aversion some have to selling anything below what a buyer might be able to resell it for. They're more concerned with preventing another's profit than actually making some of their own. .... So, instead nothing is sold at all. It seems to me the way to run a thrift store is to move merchandise as quickly as possible encouraging repeat shoppers and greater popularity. Unbelievably high prices. I was interested in buying mismatched china plates for an upcoming shower. When I walked in I thought GREAT! They have a million! Then I looked at the prices. I about fell on the floor! They ranged from $6.00 - $44.00 dollars PER MISMATCHED PLATE! Not even mint condition. Save yourself scrip and go to Counsel thrift stores. This place is overpriced for a non-profit thrift shop. I understand they're trying to raise money, but they must not understand that the people who thrift are usually on a budget. I won't be returning. I also would donate elsewhere where I know my donation would not be mis-handled. They have a lot of beautiful paintings, furniture and household goods. But it is very difficult to navigate as they have so many items. Products are somewhat organized according to category but within each area, you have to be VERY motivated to search as everything is packed to the gills.There is a side room with only rugs but they're all rolled so you can't see the design. Plus they're stacked so you can't actually look through them or get to the ones in the back. The same for the artwork. The paintings are easily damaged because they're either stacked too tight or too many are stacked haphazardly against a wall without dividers. One fell off the wall when I was there and another was on an easel and fell off when I moved a painting on the floor that was apparently holding up the easel. If you're looking for kitchen ware or clothes you may have an easier time. Anecdotally, I was interested in two items. One was a drawing. Or at least I hope it was a drawing. The sales associate wasn't sure but offered a discount when I asked for one. It was marked $175 and I was offered $125. Um...seriously? Who would pay $125 for used 'art' that may be a print? The other item was a gold clock. That has a lot of rust. Which ate through part of it. And they were not sure if it works. How much? $60! I was also looking at a 2-panel room divider which was missing the 3rd panel, evident from the extra hinges. It was marked at $500! You can get a complete piece, just as intricate, for half that price online! Alright, thanks for reading my rant. Conclusion: If they get more organized, they may be able to sell at these high prices. Or lower the prices, so more items sell. This will then prevent damage to products due to over-stacking and open up floor space to sell stuff hiding in the very large storage room. Time to higher a new manager? read more

Shocking. Ugly stuff. High prices. Crazy disorganized and over stuffed. I was only here to look for furniture but they could probably increase sales by 1000% and make more money and have a repeat customer or two if they marked their junk appropriately and did something to attract nice pieces (I saw one, which was sold). Huge waste of time. I wouldn't cross the street to shop here and I'm always happy to trek and dig a little for a great thrift find. read more

A wide variety of clothes that are *NEW* (with retail tags sill attached) & *OLD* (stain that washes out with first wash) for great prices! I am normally ok giving a place 2-3 chances before i rule them out as a bad Restaurant/store and even then i won't post a bad review preferring instead to highlight a good find but this place had like 4-5 volunteers/employees and not a single professional one. I went in looking for a few things i need with a friend nothing i found was to my liking but thats ok they have no control over that...however while i was there the people who work there decided to have 2-3 different arguments among themselves one argument got so bad i was sure there would be a fist fight. Another one was over a pice of furniture they broke right on the spot. Meanwhile my friend found some planting pots with no price tag (we later found out they had just been taken in and had not been priced yet) so as we turn these huge pots looking for a price there was 1 girl just sitting there i was thinking kind of odd for someone to just come in here and sit turns out she was an employee and the whole time my friend and i were looking for a price she did not bother to speak up and she was like 10 feet from us staring in our direction(we did not want to ask the other employees as the arguing was still going on) finally i decided to go ahead and find out about the pots i was pointed to one specific employee in charge of pricing i go and enquire about maybe getting a quick price he tells me i am not doing that right now come back tomorrow (he was busy standing outside staring at traffic)... All in all i was very disappointed i had heard in the past that this place was a bit pricy but since its for a substance abuse recovery charity i did not mind spending an extra buck or two but the employees were not friendly at all, they argued among themselves loudly and made no efforts to hide it and if you actually asked any of them for help its as if you were inconveniencing them. read more

I'm a regular customer - and there is a constant flow of new items here. Contrary to other reviews, I find the staff very friendly and accommodating. I feel comfortable making offers lower than the sticker price, and they are usually accepted, or countered close to. Some neat folks work here - Mordecai, K.J., Julia.....great people. read more

This is by far my favorite place to shop!!!!!!!' I tried to keep it a secret to my friends, but I know is not fair! Why go to Neiman Marcus or bloomingdale's where only the rich and famous can afford luxury items. At Beith Shuvah you can find just about anything from high end furniture and art, to pianos, antiques, and designer labels for very reasonable and affordable prices, and most importantly when I shop, I always remember that all money spent goes to a good cause to save human lives. The store's ambiance is enjoyable, and the employees are often reorganizing merchandise making it easier to shop for specific items. Throughout the years, I have bought several pieces of very good quality items, including a mini grand piano, as well as a brand new down sofa for our living room, several cashmere sweaters, and countless of items that I just simply could not afford elsewhere. The current store manager, Carlton, is not only one of the most charismatic, sweet, funny and professional guy's I've ever met. All store employees and/or volunteers: Daniel, Mary, Michelle, Elizabeth, Mort, and Arsenio are also amazing. This place rocks!!!!!!! read more

Terrible place!!! I would not recommend this store to any of my friends. It is way over price! C'mon people, everything you get is donations, and you charge more than retail price? Please. every time i ask one of the workers there for anything, they look at me with an ugly looking face, please get some decent people there! When you ask for the price of something that doesn't have the price, they look at it from every angle to see why, and what is made of. Like, why are you interested on this item? okay, i'm posting only about the furniture here, so i'll keep the stars at full (cause the rest of the joint rocks). but i was sorely dissappointed at the furniture... and very confused. saw a great 70s-ish yellow velvet & wood chair for $15 outside, and got very excited. treasures awaited within! cut to inside: a small broken side table with the bottom missing for $95. a desk i could pick up with one hand for $250. but wait-- gorgeous sectional couches, $200 for a set. huh? i'm not sure how they decide on their prices, but most of the furniture was light in weight and high in price. so, if you're on your way here hoping to find a gem for your living space, you might... but you may need to drop some cash. EDIT: you know, i gotta cut it down to 3. last time i checked, the out door furniture had indoor prices... and the indoor stock on both sides had a napolean complex. read more

I got a wall medallion for my grandparents as a gift. My grandmother said that the Roman images in the plaque were too violent and she didn't want it in the house. I asked the owner if I could exchange it and he said no. For this reason, I will have to throw this piece away and never go to this store again. So far this is my favorite Thrift Shop in LA. The layout is pretty organized considering how small the space is. You can get in and out in about half an hour and not feel like you missed anything(unlike other thrift stores where you dig for hours and still feel like you've barely scratched the surface). Their record collection is limited but I always find something worth taking home. read more

Oh House of Return, what beautiful and odd bargains hath you wrought. If you are looking for a basic pair of jeans or a boring old sweater, you might find it here. If you are looking for something wild and eccentric (especially if you, like me, like things with sequins and spangles) this is the place. It's dingy and you have to dig through the racks, but I have found many a treasure, including: 1. a long, blue sequined dress with a pattern like fish scales, which I purchased for $20. I wore it to my birthday, and called it my fat mermaid dress (it was too tight for me to sit down, but I looked fabulous standing around!) 2. a vintage black leather purse that reminds me of something simple and elegant that Queen Elizabeth would carry for $20 3. a new-ish purple blazer from Nordstrom for $15 4. a pair of men's Italian leather shoes - white, pointy toed and adorned with rhinestones for $25 Maybe these are not everyone's idea of fun clothing items, but I think they're fabulous. The people at the House of Return are nice and are usually willing to knock a couple of bucks off if the item you desire has a stain or scuff. They also have furniture available next door - one woman I talked to said that she'd furnished her daughter's entire apartment with finds she'd purchased. The downside is that they don't seem to have a changing room, so be willing to shimmy in and out of things while standing in front of the rack. read more
