A trip to Kauai would not be the same without a trip to Bubba's. MY KIDS LOVE THIS PLACE! Both visits were late, and after multiple beach activities, Bubba's just seemed to fit the agenda after coming out of the ocean tired and hungry. You walk in directly to a cash register and you're greeted with a great attitude as well as shirts and different items in the front for purchase. My kids and I ordered our burgers and had a seat. While waiting for our food, people from the back made conversation and we felt very welcome. When the food arrived, I gotta tell you, it was delicious. The burgers were cooked to perfection and fries were especially yummy. My wife doesn't eat a lot of burgers, but she went back for a second burger... this amazed me. I didn't need to since I typically scavenge off my children's food they can't finish. Definitely not the In N Out of Kaua'i, more of a Carl's Jr. or McDonalds. Tiny burger patties hiding between buns, not at all like the photos on here, can't see the meat unless you open up the burger. Their openness and pride about ripping off non-locals and the fact that the impossible party was the right size makes you wonder if only locals get the right size beef patties. Whenever I go on a beach vacation, I try to get a burger. Bubba's was mentioned on several sites so we gave it a try. We got the double bubba and a side of frings. The burger was just ok. It's juicy, but since the tangy mustard totally overwhelmed all other flavors, I might as well have gotten an impossible burger given that the only thing I could taste was mustard. I was here today and Tuesday, but leaving to O'ahu this afternoon. Had to get my fix of chili rice. It was onolicious with cheese and chopped onions on top. On Tuesday, I had the Beyond Burger, which was purely a health move and not for the taste. It was kinda dry and not as good as a real burger(who knew?). Haha. We came here twice while on Kauai. First time we got the 1/4 burger, and the second time we each got the 1/2 pound burger. We also shared onion rings the first time, and the second time we got more onions rings and fries/ring combo (frings). I didn't try the fries, but my wife said the onion rings were better. I think the burger is better than in and out. Both times we ate outside on the little benches as we overlooked the beach. This place is not fancy, but it is good cheap fast food. Turned out to be a solid choice. I had the Double Bubba, and my wife had the Fish Sandwich. The fish sandwich was okay, but the burger was really good. Nothing like a fresh burger on a grill top! I had fries, which are also very good, and my wife had the "frings", which was an order of onion rings and french fries. If there is one thing that was disappointing, it was that her order of frings had a whole 3 onion rings. For the upcharge (vs just fries), we figured it would be half fries, half rings. Nope. Today the fam and I decided to take a short drive and leave the resort area of Poipu and head over to Kapaa. We had no particular destination in mind, just that we wanted to get some fresh air and see another part of the island. While driving through downtown Kapaa, we saw that Bubba's was hoppin' so we pulled off the road and decided to see what ol' Yelp had to say. Reviews were good, my wife even saw a review on her swarm app that someone had compared them to In N Out burger (famous burger chain from California). Being In N Out connoisseurs' we decided we needed to check this place out. We were about 5 parties back from the front of the line and shortly after we came, more and more people seemed to get in line behind us. For only having 1 cashier, we moved fast and placed our order fairly quickly. Burgers are made to order and only prepared once order is placed. This ensures a fresh and hot burger and I definitely approve of this type of burger spot. I ordered their Bubba Burger (single patty) just as it comes. (Mustard, Bubba Relish, & chopped onion). My wife also had a Bubba Burger with cheese and ketchup only. We shared their Frings (1/2 fries 1/2 onion rings) and a coke. So, Would I say that they stood a chance against the Almighty In N Out Burger?? To be honest, this is probably the closest burger I've ever had that had the same qualities of In N Out and could actually be a worthy contender. But looking on Bubbas webpage, it's apparent that they are not about trying to beat their competitors price wise, rather their sole purpose is to serve quality food and have a fun time while doing it. Staff was friendly, both the cashier and short order cook were hustling to combat what seemed to be a never ending line. All in all it was a great lunch and vary reasonably priced. Bubba Burger ($7.75) : 3 meat patties =1/2 lb according to Bubba - 1 slice American cheese - diced onions - mustard and old fashioned ketchup relish ( Lettuce and tomato available upon request) Chili fries ($5)- salty for my taste Frings (fries and onion rings) ($4.25)- 3 onion rings to be exact with crispy outside, but doughy inside. Again not for me. Chicken Teriyaki sandwich ($8.25)- dry 4 oz chicken breast with lettuce, tomato, Mayo. Strawberry shake ($4.25) - your average strawberry shake. $35 just for average and convenience. I came, I tried, but wasn't for me. The view is epic gazing across the street onto the beach. If the slogan has not made it obvious, this place is a cool little local joint. The specialty is freshly grilled burgers made from 100% Kauai grass-fed beef, and the vibe is super chill with a friendly staff. The restaurant is a bright red building resembling a home with a backyard deck that has a view of the ocean. Merchandise greets you at the door, and you can get a discount on the food if you are wearing their stuff. There is a sign proudly proclaiming the quality of the burgers here and condemning the fast food giants for their dog food quality burgers. The menu is pretty much burgers and milkshakes. The burgers are really straightforward. It is either a single or double of a normal burger, teriyaki burger, or chili cheese burger. For the non-meat eaters, there is a taro burger. Cheese, lettuce, and tomato incur an add-on charge though lettuce and tomato are not recommended. I tried a teriyaki cheeseburger with lettuce and tomato. The burger is small but is really cheap. In hindsight, I probably should have gotten some fries to go with the burger to make it a more filling meal. We heard about Bubbas on a YouTube channel that had all kinds of cool things to do on Kauai. We were told that it is better than In-N-Out! As we are from Southern California, we had to check it out.
