OK. I'm not in the habit of giving negative reviews, but honesty is necessary here... So I had a bit of a craving for fries & since this place was closest to home, I figured I'd stop by. Yes, I live on island; over 6 years now, from Southern California, born & raised OC girl. I haven't been in this place for several years, mainly because I don't eat beef (or pork) anymore... & being that their all beef burgers are their only burger/meat option, you wouldn't find me ordering one. On this visit, I ordered the truffle fries & thought why not, I'll add some onion rings, because I haven't had an onion ring in a while! The girl at the register was really sweet, & no complaints about customer service in general. So I paid for my order, sat inside & waited... The place is a really cute, somewhat small burger style joint with a few inside tables where you can watch your food being made & seating outside facing the street... but that's not why we're (I'm) here writing this review. I'm writing this, because I've had truffle fries before & these not only were the LEAST enjoyable I've EVER had - sprinkled with very lightly shredded cheese & what looks like some seasoning - but also, the side of my tongue started breaking out real bad after a few fries. I'm not going to post a tongue pic here, but I got about half way through eating the fries, & because my tongue started getting even more inflamed, I had to just stop eating what was left altogether (picture shown). I'm guessing it might've been an allergic reaction or an ingredient sensitivity of some kind. Not sure. Other than that, these fries also got COLD rather quickly... it reminded me of McDonald's fries, that get this weird consistency when they're cold? Kind of chewy with a crumbly texture inside? I know some people enjoy cold(er) fries, but even as a child I NEVER did & that goes the same for ANY fries like that in my adult life... I have a major aversion to them! FYI, I don't eat mc'ds & haven't in YEARS. Also, let's be real, you get what you pay for & I'm used to paying $15+ for TRUFFLE fries. Truffles are considered a luxury ingredient in certain kinds of restaurants. Why? Because they're not easy to come by & you can't mass produce them. So, for $5.50, I really have NO idea where Bubba's is getting their supply from, or if there was truffle AT ALL in that "seasoning" mixed in with the cheese topping. The Onion rings were fine, I won't knock those... BUT not enjoyable ENOUGH to return for "just" them. Suffice to say, since there's really nothing here that is edible (for me), I won't be returning. I gave 3 stars, purely for the friendly employees, the cute aesthetic & the decent onion rings. That's all I have to say about that. read more

Haven't been here in 25 years, although my husband loves it here. Approached register and not greeted I gave the older lady my order. She looked at me as if I'm from another planet. I thought, don't give her any attitude or she'll bite your head off. I got their pineapple teri burger. Husband got their double patty burger and frings. Paid and sat outside. Didn't take to long. My Teri burger, I could barely taste the pineapple. Mind you the burger itself is small. The patty is small, so without the lettuce and tomato, it would be like nothing. While eating it, the bun disintegrated and left me with some filling on my lap, hard to eat with no plate underneath. The wrapper kinda got mangled. I was a mess. This was our first stop as soon as we landed in Kauai and it didn't disappoint! It's been over 18 years since we were here last and to see it's still here made me so happy. This was our final meal in Kauai before we got on a plane to travel home. We opted for the 1/6 Bubba Burger and onion rings for a late afternoon lunch. The burgers were fantastic, and the onion rings were really good as well. We liked that you placed your order at the counter, and they called your name when it's ready. There is some indoor seating and then more outside seating on the deck outside. It is located on a very busy road and across from the water, so there is plenty to look at while dining. The woman who took our lunch order was beyond rude. We told her of our allergies upfront ... wheat (so no buns), pickles (so no relish), and one potato allergy (so no cross-contamination with the fries). She looked straight at me and said we should have cooked our own food at our hotel and should not eat at restaurants. We've never had an issue except at this place. In addition, my burger had a bun after requesting no buns! The burgers were extremely dry, as well. Even my fries were dry and lacked taste! Came in tonight for a burger and this place is absolutely awesome! Got the double bubba with onion rings and was fantastic!! Beautiful, juicy and full of flavor! Onion rings were big and crispy crunchy! I love the condiments section as well. The deck seating was great and you can see the ocean across the street! Great local owned burger establishment that has been on kauai for many years. Limited parking but there is parking across the street as long as there is no signs. Open restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating with a nice view of the ocean and palm trees across the street. Service is fast and prompt. We love the teriyaki burger (ask for cheese and ketchup if you want) my husband got the chocolate milkshake and I got the banana milkshake and it was so good! The only thing we could make a comment about is that we ordered the truffle fries and it was plain fries with Parmesan cheese. There was no taste of truffle. 10/10 recommend going to bubbas if you want a burger that will hit the spot. read more

Not as good as the last trip. But, not bad. I want to focus on the positive and that is mainly, employment for the island residents and specifically the Hawaiian people. Im sure it was hard having no tourists for a year and they are glad to be back. It seems that The trend on the island this visit is teams of young ladies doing the cooking. I saw this in 80 percent of the kitchens. I loved it. They were taking charge and doing what it takes to keep the businesses going. In this case, I sat at the counter on a stool and watched them preparing burgers while I waited for my to-go order. They were friendly, entertaining and learning the skill it takes to continuously dish out food to hungry customers. I recommend you go here if visiting Kauai. I have to say that we should have known better, just from the appearance of this place......ground in greasy grime everywhere you turn. The food is horribly overpriced for what you get. My husband ordered the "big" double burger......it was the size of a MacDonald's kid's burger, except they at least put minced onion on theirs......I ordered the beyond burger, and to my disgust, it was fried on the same beef greased flat fry grill as all the other burgers! This might have been a good burger place way back at the beginning, but it has evolved into a gimmick laden, low quality, big disappointment! I've had worse. Went here on the recomendation of a local who said this place had a great burger....... I'm guessing the locals don't know what a good burger is since I've had two on this island and they were just barely ok. Ordered the regular burger and it took well over 30 minutes and there was only a few group's ahead of me. The burger was a regular McDonalds size patty (these only take a short time to cook because they are so small and thin, so not sure what took so long. If you like your plain burgers with a side of disdain for customers and a sprinkle of racism, this is the place to go. The burgers only come with relish, mayo/mustard and onions. You will not find any tomatoes or lettuce in these burgers because their reason is 'we cannot control quality of those items since they are shipped in from the mainland'. It might also be a way to cut costs by serving up a plain burger. The person taking the order is an older lady who greets you with a dismissive attitude; almost as if she doesn't want to be there and once you finish giving her your order in the PRECISE way that she likes to take orders, you will be greeted with a little dose of racism. I was asked if I had an easier name, like Nathan or Natalie or Sarah for the order I had just placed instead of the name I have been using since birth. The plan was to go to one of our fav spots to eat in Kauai on Wednesday night. Wanted to show our extended family of 15 why we loved it. They had three employees working. It appears 2 of them were brand new. No issue here, We were planning to proceed with extreme patience after we noticed they had a sign that the front counter girl was in training. The issue was that the one employee that appeared to know what she was doing, didn't help her. Got almost all our orders wrong and even got frustrated with us because they had to cook more to make the order correct. They also changed us more. The issue was not with the 3 employees IMO. They need more help and 2 of them need more training. Probably won't be back after that experience. I suggest stay away, especially if you are within an hour of closing. read more

Pre-COVID Review. While on the island for vacation, I was on a hunt to visit and try all the local burger places. I will say they were on point with fantastic onion rings that were nice and crispy. The Teriyaki burger was perfect and just how I ordered it to be Medium Well. The staff very very nice and helpful when taking our order as we wanted to make sure we ordered the best items on the menu. I highly recommend you come visit when you are on the island. read more

We had a double Bubba w/cheese (2 patties) and a Bubba burger with cheese (3 patties). Be prepared for 1/6 lb patties and everything is extra. Lettuce, tomato, onions, cheese). These were OK hamburgers. We took them to go (only about 3 minutes to get home) and the bottom buns were completely soaked through with oil (soggy). I did think the beef was seasoned very well. I would not recommend the Frings (fries with onion rings). You get 2 onion rings and less fries for the added price (2$ extra if I remember right). Food was okay, burgers are mid and if you want to add extras expect a charge! Water cups AND refills are also charged. Basically expect a charge for everything including ranch dressing.. We never had a chance to try the food as we walked out during the ordering process. I've never had a worse customer service experience. As we were ordering, the lady at the register continually interrupted and insulted us for asking any questions and not being completely prepared ahead of time. We had three small children with us and several adults. After she used a tone with me at my turn, I told her "Never mind, we'll go somewhere else", and walked out.
