I haven't been here since Jocelyn, Bozz's daughter, ran the place. So it's been a long time. I was pleasantly surprised to find my favorite tacos were still on the menu- shrimp & pineapple taco and calamari taco. Man, the food quality has fallen. 1st, instead of being on 8" flour tortillas, the tacos now come on 6" corn tortillas, a major downgrade. The pineapple taco used to have as much pineapple as shrimp, in huge chunks. That's what made it good. Now, I maybe got a bite of pineapple. I did not like this new version at all. The calamari taco faired no better. It hardly had any mandarin orange and had no black beans whatsoever. I didn't care for it. 2 of my favorite dishes left on the plate only 1/2 eaten, because they no longer make them good like they used to. Sad. read more

I hate leaving a low review considering the staff genuinely did care about the service, but it felt so disorganized from the moment I arrived. At one point in my meal I actually wondered if I had COVID because of how flavorless my Club taco was. The Ahi Tuna taco was fantastic but the Carne Rosatiza was a bit bland. Also he warned: the appetizers are VERY small for the price. And the guac lacked flavor. In the end I walked away feeling more nauseous than satisfied. My wife and I ate a late lunch on New Years Day. This wasn't our first choice but it was one of the few restaurants open. I had a carne asada taco and a calamari taco. Both were very fresh and tasty and the carne asada taco was was one of the best I have had. My wife had a chicken quesadilla and it was also very tasty. I was skeptical of this place when a friend wanted to go for her birthday. The theme, logo, name, etc were... interesting. I was pleasantly surprised at the food and drinks, though. Pros: Ordered the poblano peppers stuffed with cheese and shrimp. Also had some sautéd vegetables in it. I really enjoyed it. Free chips when seated. Skinny margarita tasted great. Not too sweet, good amount of tequila. Room for improvement: Not a single employee wearing a mask in the middle of a pandemic. Everywhere else I've been in town is at least attempting to take this seriously. Somehow their health score has been consistently high throughout the years, though. I would lean towards giving them 4 stars if they were wearing masks. Not many authentic options. The food we had was good, but it would be nice to see some other authentic options like tamales. For a small bar establishment, they do things nicely here. As with other bars on the island, they pour rather heavy in this one. I took a seat at the bar and instantly found friendship with other patrons and the wait staff. The food and drinks are all what you expect and are looking for when you visit. I struggle with a 3 or 4 star rating though. For food, service, atmosphere; it's a total 4. However, I've been turned away 2-3 times this week because they just don't have the tables in high season. There is an outside rail with seating, but they won't serve you there. If you want to visit and be sure to get a table, go during off peak hours - either a late lunch or very early dinner. read more

Bubba's recently closed and now has re-opened but isn't any better than before. As a resident we were hoping for it to be better when it re-opened but that hasn't been the case. They have great margaritas but that's it. They desperately need to improve on their food. Guys I'm not the type to post bad reviews about places but I had to share my unfortunate experience at Bubbas with the rest of the world. A tall man with long hair and a patchy beard was very unsettling to myself and my friends. I wish I knew his name but never the less his angry demeanor and off putting gazes made my girlfriend uncomfortable to the point we just had to ask for a to go box and eat our food at home. This is the second time that we ate at Bubba Garcia's and will probably be our last. Very disappointed in the food. Ordered the Nachos with ground beef. Wanted the sour cream on the side, got that. Wanted no lettuce. There was lettuce buried under the cheese and meat. The nachos had no flavor . The house margarita was drinkable but not very good. This is a casual Mexican restaurant...but the food is very good and we always enjoy our trips here when we are on the island. Our server, Jacob, was friendly and efficient. A good Mexican place in St. Simons Island? Yes, it does exist and here it is. First, the idea of being able to choose your own 'meat' for nearly all of the dishes is great. And for Bubba the word 'meat' includes the following: cheese only, shredded chix, grilled chix, pulled spicy pork, grilled fish, ground beef, tofu, grilled shrimp, grilled steak, grilled chorizo (spicy sausage), grilled veggies (zucchini, squash, portobello mush, onion, and bell pepper), black beans Beyond that simple factor the food is just darn good. One of the best chimichangas I've ever had!! Great food at a good price. My meal came with rice and beans even though it didn't say it did on the menu... most items do! The atmosphere was nice we sat outside. Chips and salsa were great (chips were addicting haha!). I'm visiting with my friend but will definitely visit again when I come back to Saint Simons. I can't speak to the food here as we only came for drinks but the atmosphere is amazing. They have live music on weekends, a bar balcony with dancing, and a lower bar as welll. The bartender was great, very laid back, he made us his signature drink he called a megabus, was super fruity. Very good. Lots of young people. The place was packed. Well shoot! Had to update review after a couple less than great experiences. One star for the patio, another star for the chips and salsa which is quite good. The food overall is two star quality. Somewhat pricey for Mexican and generally unimpressive. Service is hit or miss. Smiling is not a requirement I guess, but helps. Especially when automatically adding 20% gratuity to the bill? The menu states "No Separate Checks For Parties Over 6 During Peak Season, Gratuity May Be Added". One of my stops when I'm in SSI. Great service and really good margaritas! I always get the Becca's burrito with fried tofu. I'm usually not a tofu guy but it just works in this burrito. Came here for a work trip and the food was really good. We had a big group and the servers were really nice about it. I mainly ordered drinks since I already ate but I did bum some corn bread off some really nice people. Their portions were big from what I saw people ordering. Pretty good meal. Taco salad was delicious and totally recommended. Tacos themselves seemed small, but that's my preference. Service was slow, hence the 4 out of 5 stars. Bubba Garcias was a suggested to us when the place we wanted to eat for closed for the day. As we drove up to Bubba Garcias it looked like a lot of people were waiting outside so we weren't sure what the wait time would be. It was a little confusing as to where to put our name in but we eventually walked up to the bar and they were able to seat is outside right away. There is a long porch with plenty of seating and with ceiling fans it was pleasant enough to sit outside and enjoy our meal. My friend ordered a skinny margarita and I got a frozen pomegranate margarita. My friend hated her margarita but not because it was bad, just because she realized she shouldn't have ordered skinny and expected it be good. My margarita was delicious, and they served them in cute mason jars. For food we ordered the shrimp tacos which came with rice and beans and the paleo plate, loaded with meats and veggies. When our food arrived (quickly) we were amazed at the portions, they were huge. We dived in and each enjoyed our meal thoroughly. I appreciated the black beans that came with the rice instead of the traditional retried. Our server was very kind and responsive any time we needed her. Sat on the comfy patio. The frozen margaritas were just ok. Not enough flavor, not sweet enough but generously sized in a mason jar. Chips and salsa -- fine. I had the tacos - 1 blackened tilapia and 1 spicy shrimp. The tilapia was delicious! I was surprised. Properly cooked and nicely seasoned. My gf said the shrimp just tasted like it was doused in Frank's Red Hot, which may have been true - taste was hot and sour-ish -- which was fine. I thought they would be crunchy so a little disappointed there. Side of rice and beans just meh. Attentive service. This place may look like a dive, but the food is far from it! I don't normally advocate eating fried food, but their chips are delicious, as is their salsa. It's the right consistency... not too watery nor too chunky. The guacamole is great as well. The white queso is a bit runny for my taste, but it was popular with some. Their margaritas are delicious and an organic mix is available upon request. I've had the chicken fajitas and the "paleo plate." Both were awesome. In fact, this was the first restaurant I have ever seen offer a paleo plate, which was impressive by itself. So far, I've been here twice and I had two great experiences. We had a large group, so we arrived at 5:30pm. We were told the wait would be 30 minutes so we walked around the shops nearby. 30 minutes later, we were told it would be another 10-15 minutes. After a total of almost 2 hours later from when we first arrived, we were finally seated, but our waitress didn't get our orders for another 15 minutes. Just as we were getting up to leave, our waitress finally showed up. The food was your average by the ocean Mexican food. I would recommend getting the tacos. I got the burrito, and it was small and sad compared to the tacos. Our waitress mixed up all of our bills and mistakingly charged my friend for margaritas. My other friend was charged 2x on 1 bill for the automatic tip. Overall, would not go back again because the service was so terrible. read more
