Nice wide variety of selections. They are proud of their chowder. It is quite nice, no complain here. Expecting a lot of families including little one so expect to have a plastic cup on the table. We ordered take out rather then eat in, but its the same menu anyway.The wife ordered the fish and chips, which she enjoyed much. I ordered the chicken parmigiana. It was well prepared, breaded and moist. It was served over pasta, fettuccine I think. It was nice and hot when we got home. The pasta had a slight spicy kick to it, but needed some more sauce. I go here for sandwiches and salads they are OK. Today I went and had a steak. I hate sending stuff back cause I'm in the business and know what usually happens. Our waitress Janis "AWESOME", best part of the visit convinced me to send it back. Came back same way "overcooked", the manager came over told me that's how they cook it here at Bubbas, and I was basically wrong. I told her yeap that's why I don't like to send things back- the managers should always want to make the customer happy, she was happier trying to argue with me. Having owned three places, have my own cookbook, been on TV with my own cooking show for longer than most in their I think I know what I'm talking about. So take my advice if you go here ask for Janis as she was the best part, stick to apps. salads sandwiches cause any body can make those things, even a monkey. Bubba's was recommended so we stopped on our way from Lake Sunapee. We both ordered the seafood chowder. Not sure what we got - it was extremely thick. We couldn't identify any seafood except for the imitation crabmeat. There was plenty of that!! Also, the " broth" was an orange color. The seafood casserole was rather soupy. It had no breadcrumbs or Ritz cracker topping. On the other hand, the onion rings were great. We may return, but would order sandwiches next time. read more

Have been looking forward to trying Bubba's for while. Very disappointed. 2 people in our party ordered the whole belly clams. I have never a clam with such a small belly, and that felt like you were chewing rubber bands and both plates were VERY OVERCOOKED. Very pricey, $25 for food you cannot eat. Lobster roll was adequate and tuna on the salad was good well. Waitress was attentive but it took a long time to get our overcooked food. Will not make the trip again. read more

I wasn't overly impressed by this place. Looking at the menu prices, you would think that they would have something extra to offer to the ordinary standard fare. I didn't really find that to be so. They did have some unique offerings (fried artichoke hearts, which were pretty good), but I didn't think they was worth the jacked-up, Sunapee region prices. My husband said his ribs were mediocre, and though I did order the "Chef's Special Pasta", I hardly think cheese tortellini with chicken in Alfredo sauce should be priced at $18.00. But maybe that's just me. I did think the service was good. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive, and didn't forget to bring anything, which I find is rare. Even when I was a waitress I forgot something simple like a glass of water on a busy night. So kudos to her. The food also came out quickly. There were two things that made me rate this place so low- we were sat in the back corner, not directly next to, but a step up from the kitchen. The lighting was fine, but it was extremely hot in that corner. We were boiling the whole time. And really, it wasn't that hot of a summer evening. The second thing about being in that corner is that there was a gathering of houseflies in that area. And I don't mean two or three houseflies- I mean at least 15. At first, we were wondering why we seemed to have this one fly at our table that kept landing on our plates. When I finally looked up at the ceiling in the back I was disgusted to see a mass of them crawling all over the ceiling above. It was gross, and I lost my appetite watching them all crawl around up there. I did let the manager know when I left, and she was really nice about it, and said that they had had a pest company out. To me, it seems like some additional steps need to be made however, like a few Vector lights throughout the facility, maybe an air curtain at the back door of the kitchen to the dumpster, and making sure nobody is leaving any unscreened windows/doors open for any reason besides delivery. Honestly, it was not a minor problem, and like I said I was grossed out. I actually had second thoughts about taking my leftover food home. So, like I said, food was okay, though a little pricey for standard fare. Service good, but hindered by atmosphere. If you try it, hopefully you'll have a better experience. read more

June 2013 A solid 3 yearning for a 4. Here's the scoop. Me and the Misses were tooling around riding one afternoon and had fallen is with some other bikers that were, well the grungiest, hard scrabble biker.....ok lawyers and other pretenders on 30K rides. We pull into this little wet your whistle hole in the wall (ok it's pretty good sized seating for I would guess around 70 and a small bar for another 10). The surprises kept coming, Great food, not Michelin star but darned good for around those parts! The seafood was fresh, well seasoned and cooked well, the drinks were spot on and served fast and cold. The waitresses were friendly and attentive. We didn't even know the name of the place until recently when we ran into others that had a positive experience there as well, so we thought we'd say something.... Bubba, not only do i know you, but i know you would not stand for what my wife and i were served tonight. Irish nachos basically burnt, with a massive pile of sour cream in middle. Pulled pork so dry and overcooked, did not bother after first bite, onion rings either burnt or oil was very dirty. Supposed to come with coleslaw, but had to ask for it.... and it was tasteless. Server asked me how everything was, i was honest. He apologized but said nothing to management. I'll come back for pizza, but thats it. read more

Pizza's good, but the rest of the menu is not great. What we ate was lacking in flavor and tasted almost boxed. Worse, their staff (including the cook) was very rude, and they're not very honest about the ingredients used. I despise dishonesty almost as much as poorly cooked food. Reviews were very good on Yelp so we gave this restaurant a try. I had the Reuben which was very good -- a little greasy but good. My husband had a burger which was a little overdone even though he requested medium rare. The scenery was nice as we did eat outside on their deck. Not sure I will go back. Food is OK and not microwaved, although it all comes from a giant food truck in frozen bags. Service is good because the prices are so high, there's a decent chance the wait staff will get a good tip. Drinks are over-the-top expensive. It's a tourist joint for folks on vacation who don't care if they spend tons of money and get crappy food in return. The owner will do anything to sell crappy food for a high price. read more

Got take out the other night with my husband. My burger was terrible. The meat looked old, maybe a frozen patty that was tasteless. I couldn't even finish my meal because it was disgusting. My husband's cesar salad was hardly a salad at all. Iceberg lettuce with a few pieces of frozen chicken, topped with grated (not fresh) Parmesan cheese. It was also a terrible choice. Sadly, we've eaten here a few times... always trying different things on their menu, giving Bubbas the benefit of the doubt. Unfortunately, we have yet to find something good. The place is cute with a nice view of the lake. The food however is mediocre at best. I had the stuffed sole at $19. I would expect a chef prepared meal for that kind of money. I think the COOK probably got out of school at 3pm. Apps were very expensive. The server brought out food and we never saw him again. I wanted a glass of wine and had to ask the girl cleaning tables. Bubba's is reliable. The food is never outstanding, but it is always good. There is always solid service, happy customers and great views of Lake Sunapee. With the Newbury town docks you can arrive by boat in the summer - although there is no outside seating. Good selection of draft beers and cocktails, bar-type food and a few chef-style selections. Prices are slightly inflated, as expected for the location, but not nearly as overpriced as others on the Lake. ! Stop by and see for yourself! read more

Terrible food and customer service!!! I ordered a burger which was OK and a portion of seewt potato fries, the fries wasn't only such a little portion for $4+ which is already super expensive, I told the waiter about my fries beeing extremely grease, uncooked and soggy. Last night we suffered through a meal so atrocious that I can only describe the experience as brutal. I am still in stomach pain 20 hours later, and still just as sick as I was when I decided to return to the dump known as Bubba's! Although we were seated quickly, our drink orders and the actual drinks themselves took 20 minutes to arrive. We finally got 6 menus to accommodate the 6 people at our table and got set to order. All and all, 5 out of the 6 meals were so terrible, that only an underage drunk could have made this stuff. The clams, with bellies, had no bellies and were cooked way too long, almost to nothing. They were dried turds. The fish was not edible, also completely burnt. My lobster role made me sick, which appears to be a theme for Bubba. The burger elicited cries of disgust and regret from the kids. One savvy customer, my dear mother, bless her heart, had the wisdom to order the quesadilla and enjoyed her meal. She also seemed to relish in her ability to navigate the treacherous waters of Bubba's nasty stew house. Basically they burned all the food badly except the French fries which were not cooked at all. They were raw... It is an Interesting strategy, to let your customers know that you don't give a crap about them by serving food that is not remotely passable. Aside from these offenses, Bubba's crew was non-committal at best. They offer service sometimes, then disappear and keep their eyes on the floor. The bartender is slow and confused, doing lots of spin moves but no real production. The most telling moment was the owner's performance. As we left, she tilted her head down and away, avoiding any and all contact. I suppose it makes sense when you serve food that makes people sick; there's no reason to ask them how their meal is. She might ask, "how long do you have to drive before you are near a toilet?" Then she could say, "You better hurry! Thanks stupid!!" I wonder what percentage of Bubba's customers crap for 24 hours straight after leaving...it was about 20% of our table (or 80%, if the rest of the table was as stupid as I was and actually ate their food.) This place doesn't look like much but we had a good experience. The waitress took good care of us: kept track, good humor, etc. It was a quiet Monday mid-afternoon. We started with appetizers: Irish nachos and calimari. Both were tasty. The chowder was very good I was told. I didn't have a starter. I had clam linguini and it was good enough for rural New Hampshire though I have had better at some Italian places. A friend had the Baconater (sp) burger which has plenty of bacon. I had a bite and it was tasty. My wife and a friend had the buttered lobster roll which had plenty of lobster: priced like a meal but worth it. We started with bloody Mary's which were good and I had some white wine to accompany my pasta. I understand why our friends like this place. read more

Bubba's is pretty good. The wedge salad is delicious and it is half a head of iceberg lettuce. The fried oysters are yummy too. THe pizza is great thanks to the brick oven installed by the previous restaurant. My only complaint about Bubba's is that it is relatively expensive. I stop by Bubba's about 5 - 6 times a year...to or from medical appointments at Dartmouth. Sometimes a bit noisy with the bar crowd...but, the food is usually fairly good and the service is always good. A couple of days ago I stopped by again...and, knowing that Bubba's "prides itself" on seafood offerings, I chose to go with the "Whole Belly Clam Dinner" - even though pricey at $25.99. Well, the dinner certainly was well below any expectations that I might have had...the small portion of cole slaw was OK, the baked potato was...a baked potato, nothing special. Then...the clams. Let's say severe disappointment - looked closer to being wide elastic bands, don't know where they sent the "bellies" - certainly weren't on any of these presented on the "Dinner". Maybe 3 to 3.5 ounces of diminutive clams (more like clam strips), overcooked, rubbery, NOT "Whole Belly" or even close. Bubba...this was a HUGE disappointment...and certainly NOT up to your claimed standard in regard to your seafood offerings. read more

Very hit or miss. We've had a good pizza there, and then had one that the toppings looked like they were thrown on after the pie came out of the oven. We've had good onion rings, and then another time they served us burnt crumbs that were obviously shaken out of the bottom of the Fryolator basket. Don't recommend the steak - last time I ordered medium rare, it came medium well. Wait staff is so-so. Some are good about returning to check on you, asking how things are, refilling your glass - but too often once the food's out, it's "see ya" until it's time for the check/tip! read more

Have gone there several times for dinner, and without fail, we don't see a waitress for 5-10 minutes...for drinks! This last time, my husband got up and went to the bar and got our drinks himself. It doesn't matter what day of the week it is, or how busy it is...it obviously just isn't a prioriity for them. The waitress was apologetic and then brought us some rolls, which were obviously leftover from the last millennium...disgustingly stale and dry. Our dinners arrived in a reasonable amount of time. He ordered a chicken dish which was mediocre at best - mine was okay. Everyone says support the local economy, but our local economy restaurants obviously don't feel the need to excel with relatively little competition. It's a shame. My wife and I went in for an early dinner on a Saturday evening in July. At our request, were promptly seated at a nice table overlooking the harbor - very pleasant. Had the Irish nachos which were exceptional as an appetizer - alone worth going back for. After the nachos, we split a full order of the St Louis style ribs. Generous portion and nicely presented. The bbq sauce was a bit strong [smoky] for me, but my wife really enjoyed them. Pleasant experience, and will return. read more
