I have had hesitation about going to Bubba's, because of their recent reviews and average rating. But I wanted BBQ, and I wanted it now. The gf and I had easy parking in the rear parking lot, and stepped in. Very cute! Themed, on a ranch (or prison!), I found it clean and cute...and smelled great. Yes, sandwiches are a bit pricey (~$19), but they have plates, salads, and my recommendation, get meat by the pound with a couple of sides. I had the Pulled Pork, and it was smokey and tender, with delicious slaw on a fresh bun. Really liked it. The gf got the sexy turkey leg, and sent it back -- very dry and all she could taste was smoke (I agreed). She got a brisket plate instead, and loved it (I also agreed). They earn my vote. Well I dropped a group at the amphitheater to see Chicago, looked sold out to me. I'll park off property and get some dinner. I've been by Bad Bubbas and tonight it's Yelp night. I parked out front on the street, my sprinter is long so... It looked like the dinner rush had settled down, good. Wow the menu is pretty good quite a few choices, combo's, and ala carte'. My first impression was this is not cheep bbq. Now I get it, food costs have sky rocketed especially after you add labor and overhead to the meal. I shop baby back ribs and they run about 7 bucks a pound. I'll wait till they go down as a loss leader and stock my freezer. I say this because it was $20 for four bb rib bones, or $5 a bone Ah...at my rib restaurant in Irvine CA in 1982 sold bb ribs at a 12 bone rack dinner for $10. Now they slow smoke bbq here and thats the real deal BBQ. So if thats your thing this the place for dinner. I ordered the Cobb Salad at $20, smoked chicken and a good portion of bacon. They served my salad in a tin pie pan, probably 8" and certainly not heaping high either. A shallow presentation is skimpy on the greens, Okay. The taste was great and every thing salad wise was real fresh the chunks of chicken small but served hot. The quality is certainly here and I enjoyed my salad but it wasn't a meal for me. The service was order, pay, and pick up and quite friendly...I'm not sure if I'll be back, I just don't see the value for the authentic bbq taste at big city prices. I hate leaving bad reviews but here we are. The brisket my husband ordered had to be cut with a knife and him being from Texas is just unheard of. I got the brisket Mac and cheese and my brisket was chunks which the first bite was good but then the rest were straight up fat bites. The first bite of pasta, bland and no flavor, the second was a dirty cast iron skillet not properly cleaned and seasoned. My husband tried all the sauces to make it edible and was not pleased. Didn't even finish our beers because of the red floaters we found in the bottom of our glasses. The garlic fries were just fries dumped with Parmesan that didn't stick to the fries. The women running the front were rude and not helpful by any means. I will say the workers when we walked in were lovely. All in all for $75 for two people to eat and have a beer what a waste of money. I've never left an entire meal behind or a beer. Would most definitely not go back here. You asked for a mediocre review, Bubba's Smokehouse in Paso Robles is... fine. If you're in the mood for barbecue and you're in the area, it's an option. The pulled pork was reasonably tender, and the brisket wasn't offensively dry, though it also didn't exactly melt in your mouth. Their sauces are there, doing what sauces do, adding a bit of flavor if you're so inclined. The sides - mac and cheese, coleslaw - were pretty standard. Nothing to write home about, but they filled a space on the plate. Service was efficient enough, got our food without too much fuss. The atmosphere is what you'd expect from a casual barbecue joint. I grew up having big bubbas. We came a few years ago and it was not good but we decided to give it another shot as it seemed they maybe rebranded? We got a pulled pork sandwich, a smash burger, a 10" pizza, 3 fries and it was $83. My husband went to get mustard at the little condiments station and the bottle was empty he asked someone for more and they pointed over to the condiments station we just checked at. My husband told him it was empty. The worker came back with mustard and it was completely watered down while they have brand new things of mustard to refill the bottles with. Instead of refilling it they added water to it. It's not like they were busy we were literally the only people eating in there. The burger was clearly a pre made patty with no flavor whatsoever and tiny for $13. Genuinely mad and wish so badly I had my $83 back. read more

Assistance - You order pick up and serve yourself like a very poorly designed cafeteria, the woman I encountered during my visit was snide, condescending, and ignored our order then argued it was what we ordered. Not hard to order a pulled pork no slaw and a side of Mac... Balance --- The quality of food is poor + small in quantity / high price. Cleanliness - Unsure if when it was last swept out, visible dust crumbs and dirt in corners, tables were covered in dried stuck in food, drink machine has heavy smell of mildew/algae/mold not sure which but it's an unmistakable stank. Deliciousness - I've been coming to this restaurant since it's creation, only recently having not been there and now everything has changed 100% it tastes bland, yet spicy, and flavorless, the tritip is some other similar and tough cut, it is not a tritip. The pulled pork is 90% tomato sauce with a metallic canned flavor, IDK what happened here but it's sad! Environment + It's still the nostalgic old West fort style building, no servers or busser, no dances, no fun music and happy times, just a big open shack with sad cafeteria food. Summary: This once great restaurant has been bought by someone and corrupted, strangled, insanguinated, by someone who clearly has no idea how to run a business. Sad fact of the area is people came in and invested in these places during the pandemic, with zero regard to what the place was, like some sick slumlord getting out everything in the area. The food was decent, but the experience was completely ruined by the woman JILL taking orders, who appeared to be the owner. Her attitude JILL was extremely rude and dismissive. When I asked if a chicken dish could be made mild, she made a degrading comment about how her 15- and 16-year-old children can handle the spice--an unnecessary and unprofessional response to a simple question from a first-time customer. Jill also charged for ranch sauces, which I don't mind, but did so abrasively without any explanation. The food itself was fine, but the Jill's behavior behind the counter overshadowed everything else. Unfortunately the whole experience was tainted by a $32.27 (+tax) SERVICE CHARGE added to our bill. We ordered at a counter (no wait staff), and picked up our own food at the "pick up" counter. THERE WAS NO SERVICE. When the woman at the register was questioned, she said "oh, that's just what we charge when the bill is more than $140." I'm of the impression that this place HAD its glory days. We came here because it was within walking distance from our hotel, which isn't the best reason/recommendation. There's a lot of fast food places (and a Denny's, for what it's worth) nearby. I had a friend at work whose husband liked it, and I knew where it was located. That's it. My next question is WHEN did they visit this place? I did remember on previous trip to Paso Robles, that we almost visited this place, but, it was busy, and we didn't have time to wait, so we got on the road and went elsewhere. That was then. That sounds like something we would do. This time, the parking lot looked empty. It's around 4:30 pm on a Saturday, December 28th. Interior-wise, the place reminded me of Armadillo Willy's, or a Famous Dave's, up north. We did have someone promptly take our order and print the bill. Food and Beverages-Pork Spare Ribs ($23.49, including the 2.50 upcharge for Mac and Cheese for the one side item), Central Coast BBQ Plate ($24.99, includes 1/2 Chicken, Tri-tip, Baked beans, two half slices of Texas toast and salad), 25 oz. Pacifico (10.49), Mind Haze IPA (8.50) and a 20 percent+ tip (15.00) that you have to automatically include on the payment BEFORE you know if the food is any good. I'm not found of that practice. So, as I'm signing the CC payment, the food is ready for pickup. No table service, plastic utensils, and you bus your table. There's a basic BBQ sauce on the table. I kind of assumed there would be more varieties of BBQ sauce over merely one type. Food- kind of dry. This is why it was ready before I finished signing the bill. The chicken was kind of dry. It needed the BBQ sauce. My husband's spare ribs looked okay, but, again, it needed the BBQ sauce. The mac and cheese? It was okay, but tasted like the predictable, pre-made, nuked in a bag, mac and cheese that we've had at other restaurants. The baked beans, not that exceptional. It was more like something I can open from a can at home. There wasn't anything impressive about the place or the food. It's probably good for someone with a less adventurous palate. It's on par with some catering service that would be used for a corporate event/lunch, wouldn't offend anyone, and met the required specifications of the client. I just thought it would be better. It was overpriced and mediocre. For the amount of money we paid, I would, at least, expect table service. We could do better at a Chili's restaurant. On the following day, I was informed of a better place in downtown Paso Robles. That's for next time. We had to get back on the road. read more

Family friendly restaurant with good food! This is the place that will not disappoint. Located right off of the freeway! Easy to find! Fun decor! We came across this place as we were driving by and decided to give it a shot! I am so glad we did. Loved the decor and jail cells that have a table for 4 in each. There are 2. It's also fun for pictures. The service was great! The nice lady who took our order was helpful and very nice. Our food was ready quickly. The portions are generous. I ordered the pork ribs. They were tender and juicy. The meat came right off of the bone. Delicious! It came with their homemade chips. Yum! Their Mac N Cheese is so delicious and made with love. First time here. The empty parking lot at dinner time was my first clue to being underwhelmed. Ordered a combo of brisket and pulled pork along with coleslaw and chili beans. Portions were large but unlike most BBQ place, you don't get a bread (corn bread, toast, etc.). I had to go back and order overpriced Texas toast. And when guests orders are ready, the staff announces their name and says, "Come get it." It's condescending. How about saying, "__________, Your order is ready." Or, "_______, Come on up and get your delicious meal." ? Attention to little details would make guests feel less like they are in a cafeteria. As for the food, the brisket was tender but salty. Pork was good, slaw was ok, beans were good. It wasn't anything to write home about. Atmosphere was charming. Overall, it was a decent meal but I wouldn't go out of my way to go back. In Paso Robles for the Keith Urban concert last night.. Decided to eat at Big bubba's before the concert... My girlfriend and I decided to share an entree... We chose the brisket... It comes with one side but I added $2.50 for a " premium side" of onion rings.. The " premium side" of onion rings consisted of - no joke- SIX onion rings..that's it!!.. The entire brisket was six square pieces literally two and a half inches by 2 and 1/2 in, laid in a metal tin, playing, allowing you to choose your own barbecue sauce from the table ... This " MEAL" cost $25.54!!! By far one of the worst dinners I've ever had in a restaurant. I made the mistake of not reading the reviews before my girlfriend and I went there... Huge mistake... What an interesting place! We stopped here while traveling through so had never even heard of it. First impressions walking in was the atmosphere was awesome. 5/5 stars. They have have an old-timey water fountain when you walk in, everything is decorated like an old country western saloon, complete with two "jail cells" that you can eat in. Super creative and fun. Next thing we noticed was how cold it was. We came here on a cold rainy day and really wanted a warm escape from the weather. We didn't get that-- we literally could see our breath inside with how cold it was. Also, the table we ate at wasn't clean, there was barbecue sauce stuck on the table still. Seemed like they could have been a little short staffed this day though. Food was great! Enjoyed the flavors of the brisket best, and the pulled pork and ribs were also great. The turkey leg was HUGE so portion size was great but it was a little dry, and so was the tri tip. Wish everything was a little warmer too. The salad was good to see as a fresh option but needed more toppings than just carrots (maybe some red onion at least). Staff were super nice and friendly and we felt very welcomed. The soundtrack was mostly sad or mad country songs, felt like it didn't quite match the atmosphere they were going for. I felt like they're close to greatness. So i use to come here when this place first opened and let me tell you, what a difference. The burgers use to be juicy and I believe it was a half pound patty. They were thick and very delicious. I just came with my daughter and got one side and one jalapeño popper. It was over 50 dollars. Wtf. The burgers were flat and dried out . I could get better at McDonald's for God's sake. I picked up the food and asked for a tray. Nope no tray. How does a burger joint not have a milkshake . This place has totally changed and not good change. I will never come back here. Driving north from San Diego, driving up the iconic 101 we left San Luis Obispo and decided to eat in Paso Robles since we had never been there. Typical BBQ menu but very expensive. $22 for a brisket sandwich. We got 2 double "smash" burgers on a "buttered" brioche bun $13 each. We decided to share a basket of fries for a whooping $9.99, figuring for that high dollar price there would be plenty for two people to share. Once we found a table, ironically right behind us they were doing studio shots of perfect dishes that looked amazing, delicious, and generous, so I was expecting the high dollar meal to be exceptional. What was plopped down, with no semblance of hospitality etiquette, was a small bun completely soaked with grease, as was the flimsy paper holding it. The bread was wet with grease, especially the bottom, and couldn't be picked up. A leaf of lettuce twice the size of the bun hung out all around. The entire greasy mess had been smashed down, bun and all to an unappetizing, unattractive, and greasy puck. I returned to the counter with my basket, asking if they would use my burger for their photo op. The woman who was the manager, possibly the owner, agreed to do it over, a bit petulantly. She proclaimed "It's a smash burger." I would encourage her to do a bit of research on what exactly defines a REAL smash burger in the culinary world - it's actually a very particularly defined and prepared burger - this wasn't it. Oh, and the $10 fries were about the size of a single basket anywhere else that would have cost $5. When she came to bring the redo burger back, there was no smile or, "Hope this is better for you; y'all come back now ya hear!" Maybe she already figured we wouldn't. I left it on the table I took no photo out of pity for the poor burger that already looked ashamed to exist, leaking grease and regret into the red plastic basket. I go here all the time with my toddler! It's a great place for lunch or dinner. I love everything on the menu but my favorite is the tritip sandwich with macaroni salad. My son can't get enough of the fresh chicken strips and Mac n cheese! The service is always friendly and fast. We also love the laidback family atmosphere. read more

The service is terrible with some snooty passive aggressive lady that kept being rude for the entire time we were there and I ordered the Tri-tip sandwich because she said they only had enough tri-tip for one sandwich since they were "really busy" (nobody was in there) on the menu it said that it came with dill pickles (I received none) when I went up to the counter to ask for the pickles a gentleman was helping me just for her to step in and say pickles are .75 cents when I pointed out that on the menu it says that it came with pickles she said that it was a typo but how do you add dill pickles to a menu item as a typo I just walked away after that until some gentleman came with a cup of pickles free of charge since he probably knew that you can't really have dill pickles be a typo. The ambiance inside was decent the flowing water was a nice touch but the drinks were right next to the women's bathrooms and it smelled like sewer my mother couldn't even use the bathroom due to the smell being so wretched. read more
