The staff brings out the food to you and also grabs your plates when you are done. Their GF bread is fantastic! This location is under construction so there were some closed sections where we couldn't sit. Overall the staff was friendly and willing to help find GF items for me.

Customers that came in after us had ordered and ate but not us. Finally my son went up to the kitchen window to ask why we didn't get our food. The kitchen staff told my son "We ran out of food". One would figure that there would have been some type of announcement made instead of leaving us and some other customers hanging but, nobody said a peep. This was the worst experience we've ever had at any restaurant! How can this place even operate without a wait staff and run out of food soon after it opened for the day. It simply was not busy enough to run out of food. Seems to me that the underlying problem is the owner and management. One thing I do know is that I will never go to this restaurant again nor their other restaurant Bold American Fare. Thanks Chick and the Pig for leaving us hungry and for giving us a very bad experience on Father's Day!!

Terribly inconsistent…read more We've been to many Firehouse Subs over the years and generally the experience has been good and customer service has been decent. The inconsistency has been the portion size and correctness of order and based on other reviews, this location has been experiencing this issue for years. We even ordered online to make clear our substitutions and additions and yet we received incorrect orders and sparse amounts of meat. It's frustrating to gamble on what we're going to get and it shouldn't be on us to check every single sandwich in our to-go order to make sure they got it right. We support the mission of Firehouse Subs and fire fighters everywhere but we're not coming back to this location, because it's too exhausting. I cannot say enough good things about this sub shop. The service is outstanding! I have yet to meet anyone not friendly. They are helpful in selecting a sandwich, and explaining their products. The sandwiches are outstanding! Let me first start by telling you that the Italian bread is so fresh! I always get the small, which is not small by any means. It is 6 inches of a mouthful of happiness! Then you add your own toppings-I get it loaded with fresh veggies, cheese, oil and vinegar. I also get a side of their homemade Giardiniera-it is so good. I place the order online and it says 25 - 30 mins ready for pick up. Sweet no problem as I had a grocery pick up order at Jewels. So about 25 mins passes and I arrive with my 2 year old daughter ready to pick up my food. The restaurant is inside the train station and it's a pretty cool setup. My daughter absolutely loved running around the place. I walk up to the cashier and tell them I'm here to pick up my order and the gentlemen tells me he hasn't even started my order yet and there was some issues going on in the kitchen. He said it's going to be another 10 mins before the food can be ready. Uh oh... I'm going to have to ding 1 star because this should have been updated that it's going to take a lot longer than expected. I wait the 10 mins and the food gets done and then I head home. Overall the food was good and as you can see from my pictures it's a not a traditional cuban sandwich but it was good, and I'd get it again. Fries were hot and crispy and my daughter enjoyed her chicken strips. Breaking Bread has always been a good alternative for grabbing lunch in Crystal Lake.

Side note that i liked, after ordering up at the front , i wasn't pressured to give a tip- i would have done it anyways but the added touch he just skipped over that for some reason stuck with me in a good way!
