This place was really an old school Italian look inside. I went with a group of about 12 for a luncheon. The restaurant was full of deep rich color and old school pictures covering the walls it had a really great feel. We ate in the pope room with pictures of popes past every where. The food is large family style dishes I would say it was ok. We had lemon chicken, pizzas, calamari and ziti which was probably the best item on the table. I really love the family/ homey feeling of this restaurant. Now this is a family style restaurant similar to what you would see in an authentic Chinese restaurant. The summary: Family restaurant with family servings. Delicious, but you can't go by yourself. The experience: Good thing it was a big group of about 10 people, because that's how this restaurant works: you can order meals for 3 or meals for 5 people. We had a reservation and we were received fast and taken to the table. The servers explained the concept (basically: what I just said: Italian restaurant, choose your pasta, choose your salad, in portions to between 3 to 5 people each, and enjoy. drinks are individual). We got the alfredo with shrimp and the meatball pasta; and the gorgonzola and apple salad. What. A. Treat. Weird for me as it sounds, I have to praise the salad nice and long. That thing was delicious. I usually just eat a little bit of salad and go to town with the entrées... but this time I have to acknowledge that the salad is part of the experience. Let's back it up a little because I went ahead of myself. The first thing you get is the bread. warm and nice and next to a plate of olive oil (the good one, not that cheap thing you get at the supermarket where you barely taste the olive) with a drop of balsamic vinegar. Try not to fill yourself with that, which will be a bit difficult because the food takes a little to arrive and it's really tasty, but you'll manage. Order a Peroni in the meantime, they have it at the perfect temperature. Then we got the salad, and even though I don't have to repeat myself, I will: the thing was delicious. Then we got the pastas. I loved the alfredo with shrimp, but the meatballs was awesome too... my only complaint is that the 5-people plate brings three (3) GIGANTIC meatballs. I mean, it's not a complaint, exactly, because they are more than enough (you could split one in four and still everyone leaves happy), I just felt they could do them a bit smaller, but put 1 for each person (It's not a problem, we did split them, I'd just like it more if we wouldn't have to split a meatball... but that's my own craziness talking), or even smaller and you get two for person... Anyway. the pasta was awesome, the salad had been delicious, the beer was chilled on point... and then... dessert time. We had a birthday girl in the party, so the servers sang birthday, too, but forget about that, we got ONE (1) Slice of cake... that fed everybody and there was a bit for the birthday girl to bring back home. It had been many years since I went to Buca. I met my friend there for an early dinner yesterday. We decided to share a pizza and salad. Each feeds 2-3 people. The salad was very good. It was fresh and the dressing was nice. I wish they would put more olivesxand pepperoncinis in it. The pizza was another story. It was just ok. We overlooked the burnt little patches. The issue was the cheese just didn't have a delicious flavor. It is also too thin for my liking. This is a great restaurant to visit if you are a big group. We had a party of 9 and they seated up immediately and many of the staff greated us as we walked thru to our table. Bread came out immediately which if you have kids you will know is crucial. We ordered 2 entrees and one pizza for the table and it was the perfect amount of food. Oh and also ordered two beers and a sangria pitcher. Total bill before tip $195. The server both times said the same thing "it is coming up." They had to be reminded by my party for me to get my dish when I did. #39 Buca di Beppo is one of those place that's if you think you can eat a plate of food you order and you're going alone, you're either dedicated or overestimated yourself big time. The draw to this place is the over the top styling of Italian decor and the family portions they offer here. From the moment you pull up to the restaurant, you know it's Italian because of the zanny stuff on the walls and right outside. They have an entire table dedicated to the Pope, with a bust of his head as the center piece. It's actually quite funny and cool to sit here and get a picture with it if it's empty at the time when you're walking past it. Our waiter was good, however we cane with a large group and he didn't ask about half of the tables orders before walking away to place the order. We had to wave him down again so we could finish our orders. He was attentive afterwards at least, and was super friendly. The dish I split with a couple people was the chicken parm. We ordered the three person size and it came out with three patties. All of them had the most amazing breading on it and it was thick enough you could cut it with a fork still. The cheese was melted perfect on top and the sauce was divine! Prices here are a little on the high side but you are paying for family portions and the ambience/name of the place. Pretty great food and staff will keep me coming back for nice little get togethers with friends, however the price will probably keep make away unless it is for events with family or friends for sure. They even took us through the spotless kitchen, which was such a fun and unique touch. Everyone we met had a great smile and such positive energy. The food was delicious, especially the fettuccine Alfredo and the pepperoni pizza, which were our favorites. Very good food in a cozy and relaxed atmosphere. Their standard menu gives you the option to order large portions for sharing which is great when you go with a group, but if you are on your own or with just one other person, then they have a special menu with individual servings. The only drawback is that in the special menu does not have all the dishes available in the standard one. I have always been happy with the quality of the food and I also like their catering service. I've used it a few time for parties at home, and they have always delivered high quality food. A couple of my favorite dishes are: chicken Marsala (their sauce is wonderful) and chicken limone, and my favorite pasta is their baked ziti that comes with a delicious pink sauce. Their wine list is not very large, but it does have a few nice options by the glass and also bottles. There is a little something for every taste. read more

What a disappointment last night's dinner was. I grew up going to the Buca in Ft. Lauderdale (it closed probably 15 years ago) and have nothing but the fondest memories, so when my whole family was in town for my birthday this year I suggested going there all together. We were a party of 13 and had reservations for 6:30, but had to wait about 20 minutes to be seated because they apparently only had 2 servers for the entire restaurant. The manager appeared to be flustered from the moment we walked in. This location needs some major TLC and clean up (unless it was always like this and I just didn't realize it as a kid, though my family agreed). Our server, Tatiana, was a sweetheart. Truly. She did the best she could. Between her, the other server helping, and the flustered manager, drinks were forgotten and when dinner was delivered we were told at that moment they didn't have the lasagna (thank God we ordered enough food). My beloved chicken limone was dry and far from how delicious I remember it being. They brought a massive brownie sundae for dessert and sang happy birthday (very sweet) but the manager was just so flustered the entire time. I was so disappointed in everything about this experience. Buca is just jot the way I remember it being. We will not be returning and will just hold onto the fond memories we have of the Fort Lauderdale location. read more

When entered were greeted, and went through the kitchen to our table along the way greeted by Mario the manger. Our server Tatiana meant us at the table, and what memory she remembered us, and I guess that plus cause last time she went above and beyond and didn't disappoint us, and mentioned the new specials they now have for two people. So the wife started Sangria, I tasted was that good, then came salad which more than enough to satisfy a hungry person. We ordered Chicken Parmigiana and I Lasagna both delicious and enough for the week, so tasty.
