Decided to order carryout for the family to celebrate Valentine's Day. We couldn't decide between sushi and Italian and chose Buca. Big mistake. I placed an online order at 4:30pm for a pick-up at 6:15. When my husband arrived to pick-up the food at 6:20. It was not ready. Excuse was "sorry we are behind". More than enough notice was given to have our order ready on time. After 6:30 he got the food...But it was missing our pizza- There was a promotion for a free heart shaped margherita pizza with every carryout order "while supplies last"-I'm pretty sure an Italian restaurant with pizza on the menu can't run out of supplies for pizza. My husband had to ask for it. The young lady helping him asked him if he wanted to wait for one and he said she seemed put off by him asking. If it's a promotion why isn't it ready with the order?! Of course he waited. BUT- Look at this heart shaped pizza they gave us!! Horrible! As for the rest of the food- The spaghetti and meatballs was dry and bland. The chicken parmesan was soggy. This place seems to have changed a little since I last ordered. The flavors were good but the technique was lacking on this particular meal. We ordered Spicy Chicken Mostachoili and Eggplant Parmesan. I was pretty let down to discover only 3 small pieces of chicken (about a breasts worth) and a whole bunch of pasta comprised the 15.00 order price. Maybe they should chop the chicken and mix it into the pasta or something but the pasta to chicken ratio seemed off. 3 stars. The eggplant was tasty with a nice crispy breading. It was again about four pieces with the rest of the dish filled with ( slightly overdone) pasta. The marinara sauce was lively and chunky and delicious but again mostly noodles, not enough yummy sauce and a very small (IMO) portion of the entree. No one orders eggplant parmesan to get stuffed on pasta. The eggplant was a tad spongy inside too, which means it did not fully cook. 3 stars. Food has become more expensive, so our favorite places have to find a way to cut costs and still meet demand. I remember dining in and for whatever reason, it seemed that it was much more plentiful and well-executed. I think that this place is still pretty popular and so in some ways, my order was just rushed and not made to (my imagined) perfection, but it was still tasty, and I am always willing to give a place another try! OMG! Okay I ate here the other day and had fettuccini and chicken Marsala. Fettuccini was dry and bland. Lacked flavor. Not enough sauce. Chicken Marsala tasted like I was eating cough syrup. Ate at the Lombard location. Ambiance and service were great. Food was a disappointment. Lasagna, my go-to dish at any Italian restaurant, was the worst I ever had. It didn't look good, and the sauce was kind of dried out. Chicken parmesan was just ok. Stuffed mushrooms were kind of weird-tasting and undercooked. We used to eat at Buca restaurants about a dozen years ago, it was much better back then. The prices are shockingly high, not enough to justify portions that are not as big as they used to be. Went to Buca today for their buy one get one free lunch special. My baked ziti was so yummy and my husband really enjoyed his spaghetti and large meatball. Our waiter (name was Tim or Jim) provided excellent service. Our check totaled only $16.49 with tax so it was such a good deal. We, of course, left a 20 percent tip on the original value of both entrees. Looking forward to having lunch their again soon. Their special is only good until Fall. read more

Tried Buca for the first time only a couple of years ago but we have been back 6 or 8 times since. We LOVE the Baked ziti, spicy rigatoni and the chocolate chitp cannolis are a must! The portions are huge and their service is always friendly and informative.. I personally love the decor because who doesn't like looking around in between conversation and eating?! Prices can be steep but the flavor is homemade and the portions are worth the $20+ a plate. I haven't been to a Buca di Beppo since... 2001 (eesh!) and it wasn't this location. This ended up being our Pasta Plan B tonight. We were greeted warmly by the hostess and were seated immediately. Our server was Kayla and she was great: personable, funny, attentive. She put in our salad and drink orders (hot tea, iced tea, water) while we were still deciding on entrees. My friend and I ordered small sizes of: Caesar Salad Spaghetti w/Meat sauce Chicken Limone Verdict: Caesar Salad: 4 I mean.. it's salad; pretty hard to screw up! The lettuce was crisp and the cheese covering was adequate. I would have liked more croutons and dressing since it was kind of dry. Spaghetti: 3 Meh.. pretty plain/basic. Again, I'd like more sauce, but I'm a saucy gal and am a fan of the stuff! The sauce had good flavor, but the sauceless noodles required a heavy dose of parm cheese and pepper for flavor. Good for kids though! Chicken Limone: 4.5 This was my favorite; the chicken was tender and juicy (with a couple of coveted golden brown edges, yum)! The buttery lemon sauce with capers was a win. So did you know that Buca di Beppo roughly translates to "Joe's Basement?" I didn't. But that is apparently why this restaurant chain incorporates low ceilings and no windows in all of its restaurants, so it feels like an actual basement. You also have to walk down stairs or a ramp to get inside. Kind of cutesy. Know what else? I never cared, because the food and service have always been awesome. My biggest problem with eating at Buca is the fact that there are too many things on the menu that I like and want to try, and not enough room in my stomach. The salads are amazing, and you can easily make a meal on them alone. The cheesy garlic bread is fantastic, and both the chicken parmesan and eggplant parmesan are delicious. I've also had various pasta dishes through the years and never been disappointed. I am far from an Italian food connoisseur. I'm perfectly happy eating at the chains like Italio or Olive Garden, or even throwing some Prego sauce (not gravy) on the noodles I overcook at home. It's my understanding that most real Italian restaurants incorporate family recipes for their sauce and various dishes, and that's why they very from place to place. Some are sweeter than others, some are more tart. Even Buca's sauce/gravy is made from a family recipe, but it's mass produced so all of the restaurants have it. I like the consistency. I know what I'm going to get. The service during my last visit was stellar. I got the idea most folks eating here think this is great cuisine and love the grossly large portions. I thought my food was mediocre and extremely pricey. Dishes are served family style in two sizes; few items on the menu are single portions. And then there's the service. Ours was fine, but servers look overwhelmed. This is a very casual Italian restaurant that serves enormous portions of food. Come hungry! Food: Decent Italian food, not fancy, not gourmet, just good old fashioned food...the kind your Italian Grandma would make. (minus lime jello) I highly suggest you order a few entrees and share family style. Mangia mangia. My mouth waters thinking about Saltimbocca, Marsala, and linguini clam sauce. The green beans are surprisingly delicious and the salads are always delicious. Décor: Again, think Italian Grandma. There is stuff all over the place. The women's room even has old advertisements for undergarments and stuff....so funny. This place is like a museum of old stuff. Seating: If you have a smaller group, reserve the kitchen table. There is a booth in the kitchen. The chefs come chat with you and sometimes give you a little extra. You also get to say hello to the people walking in, which is hilarious! (especially after a few bellinis or chiantis) Cost: The entrée prices are high if you consider them single serve...but they aren't. One small entrée easily serves 2-3 people. There will be leftovers, which you will enjoy the next day. Get on their email list, they send coupons all the time. They even offer a Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings. We did that one year, it was awesome. My baby shower was here and it was super affordable and the staff was so friendly. I have been gluten free for several years but that doesn't stop me from coming. There are some dishes that are gluten free. Sadly, no gluten free pasta. We started with the stuffed mushrooms. They were tasty and the pesto sauce complimented them nicely. For the main course we got the Shrimp Florentine. It was a great choice and we enjoyed it. My friend just mentioned about this franchise/restaurant in Indiana, I wanted to try this place out since I found it in suburbs, so I go here with no expectations. The place seemed sorta small from outside but oh man - was I wrongg !! This place is massive and confusing on the inside :D.. The staff are uber friendly and they were really good with answering all my questions. The decor in the place was beautiful (posted some pics too) - wine bottled ceilings with so many pictures on the wall. I really liked that. Hah - even the bathroom had a lot of funny elements to it.. BLOODY BRILLIANT I say :).. We started off with Spinach and Artichoke Dip - this was really good with some nice thin bread (like crostini I think it's called) .. Personally I really liked this dip - lot of spinach in this so got the flavors I was looking for - Believe me I have all spinach & artichoke dip in multiple places - this is one of the top for me :). My friend ordered some wine - G1 Reunit Lambrusco - this was pretty good (I am not a wine person - so you can probably assume it's good). We then ordered a SMALL Spicy Chicken Rigatoni - which was amazingg.. Ohhh I loveeedd the sauce they had - cheesy and it was HUGEEE.. The server was like it's good for 2 - 3 people and both of us gobbled the entire thing up. Though at this stage - I was finding it hard to move. ;) We then got a Tiramisu TO-GO which was pretty good too. I loved the other desserts on the menu BTW. I think this is an awesome place to go for ambience/decor and eating in a group.. I would highly suggest this when possibly there is a group of 6 or so you can possibly just order an appetizer and 2 entrees with one/two desserts. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive and the decor was really interesting and borderline overwhelming, but in a good way. Fun place for large get togethers as the dishes seem to all be family style friendly. I was here with one other person so we didn't get to try too many flavors. We got the salad which was great, and the Margherita pizza. The pizza was good but the sauce could've used a little more seasoning, it was also a little limp as far as crust goes. This dinner was a little frustrating to say the least. Came here on Father's Day and made a reservation for 6 people at 7:30 pm. We were seated by a host first at a table that seated only 4 and then got directed to the other side of the restaurant and sat a nice round table. Our server finally came to us after 7 minutes to take our drink order and we already knew what we wanted to order so we placed it right away. We ordered the chopped salad which came in first with a food runner, but we had no plates and our drinks weren't even at our table yet. My sister tried to ask the food runner for some plates but she scurried off. My dad tried to ask another employee for plates, but no one noticed. It was so frustrating that even a gentleman at the table next to us ended up bring plates to our table. Now that's embarrassing. The food finally all came out and the only outstanding dish was the Chicken Marsala. The server was really only there at our table every time we flagged her down. We waited for a refill on bread for 10 mins and she mentioned someone else was coming to drop it off and no one did. She ended up looking a little frazzled and seemed too busy to noticed how unattended our table was. The dinner dragged out so much to the point where we wanted to just order dessert to go and pay the check. Spent $240 including tip. Enh, it's Buca. Used to love it 10 years ago when it had more "oomph," it's lacking nowadays. Yet, $20 off a $40 purchase led me in during their lunch hours. Feed a family of 5 and still have leftovers made it worth the cost. My two youngest and I dined in and Handel was our server. While he was kind and considerate, he could have been more attentive. Yet, their best section was filled and him and one other server had to fulfill all customers' demands, so I also get it. Perhaps they should hire more servers during lunch? At any rate, he was speedy with dropping off drinks and bread. Perfect. The bread was warm and fresh and the children devoured it. We then ordered meat lasagna(to take home for the husband), eggplant Parm with a side of fettucini alfredo(two of my faves), and baked ziti(cheesy goodness!). They all came fresh, albeit slightly on the more done side. I prefer more sauce, and the fettucini alfredo and ziti did not have as much as I would prefer. Oh well, good enough anyways. All 3 of us left full and the bill without tip was $26(I also had a diet coke). My eldest devoured the rest of the baked ziti while the husband ate all of the lasagna. We've had some good meals at the Lombard location. Unfortunately we had lunch there this past week and it was not good. We both ordered pasta from the lunch menu. Spaghetti with sausage and pasta with chicken and sun dried tomatoes. We ordered no alcohol or dessert. Our bill came to $86. There was nothing exceptional about either pasta dish. I realize that most all restaurants must raise their prices due to the rising cost of staples but I thought $86 was a bit expensive for a blah meal. read more

I went to Buca regularly when I lived in DC. I've gotten to Buca much less regularly since I've lived here. The Lombard location looked similar to the DC location I used to frequent. We sat in the bar area (seemed where they stashed two person parties). My husband and I ordered two appetizers (calamari and bruschetta). The calamari was delicious, very crispy. The bruschetta was CRAZY big with LOTS of tomato (surprised at how little cheese and onions there was). We normally go to Bucca about 5-7 times a year since 2000 this was take-out for a party of 5 for Sunday 6 ish dinner. This place is almost as good as it gets. We went here yesterday for the first time and the food and services were so high in quality, I know we are going back. We went at lunch so next visit will be dinner time. I had the Fruitti de Mare and it was prepared to perfection, the sauce and the seafood were just right on balance. My wife had the lasagna, this is how she rates Italian food. She just loved it also and she did finish her meal, it was that good. The prices were very nice also and we used a coupon from Entertainment book for $10 off, so the waiter got an additional tip. He was very good at his job and we enjoyed this visit to this great place. The restaurant has different rooms for larger parties or separation from other parties, whatever you like.
