I guess I'm on an Italian restaurant review roll. But this place is really pretty different from the rest. With it charming little decor and it's family style portions, it's definitely a unique experience. OMG, you have never had garlic bread like they make it here. A full round loaf comes out piping how with full slices of garlic and butter spread on it. You gotta appreciate garlic to like it. It's awesome though. For entrée, we usually get the Eggplant Parmesan and some Spaghetti. Oh, and mashed potatoes are a great side. Oh, they have this option to sit like IN the kitchen. That's pretty cool too. Had a craving for garlic food so we went to lunch at Bucca today. However it was not as good as I recall it from previous visits. The garlic green beans were cold and VERY lemony. The sausage in the pasta was extremely spicy but the worst part was our server was pushing purchasing additional food and desserts like she was on commission. The service here was awesome! Our server Jen was the best we have ever had. Hands down anywhere. The manager was extremely nice and the ambiance was extremely exciting. The food was good. I was here in May 2017 the food I tried was quite differnt than this visit, but it is good food, the salad is extremely good. We would go again but I would order something differnt. I was a bit disappointed with our meal. It was flavor-less. I wanted something that would make me happy that I ate out - instead I had pasta that I could have made at home. All served by a young lady who made me feel like I was a bother and that she was doing us a favor. The place was rather empty given that it was late Sunday afternoon- which if previous customers had experienced our waitress, I could see why. We had a meal special - get dinner for 40 dollars for four, which I thought was a steal, but not so much if I'm still hungry. The atmosphere is always over the top. Keep driving...this is not the restaurant you fondly remember. We ordered the small chicken limone for two of us through pick up. The person on the phone taking our order stated it came with pasta. When we arrived home, we found three smallish chicken breasts in a thin, runny lemon water sauce and bread and butter. No salad. No pasta. For $34.00. When I called to inquire I was told that the chicken limone does not, in fact, come with pasta. It may have been vaguely semi-acceptable if the chicken had had any flavor. Wrong again. We've been here with our family countless times, with a year between visits. This time was just all around poor. The biggest turnoff was the outrageous prices for everything, specifically the "small" portion. $31 for a spaghetti with meatballs, really? Not only was the price high, the dish was subpar. We had to ask for more sauce as it was practically just plain pasta. Another $31 spent was on the Chicken Limone, which, for a small portion was 1-2 chicken breasts sliced into 3. To feed a party of 4, I can't see it being under $130, which is just absurd. Last time we came here the waiter we had was treating us differently because we had a gift card, thinking he wouldn't get a tip. Such a contrast from the first guy we met who was so accommodating. We had a lg chicken with lemon, small chicken parmigiana, garlic bread, and a large salad for $135. $30 for a salad which consisted of a head of iceberg lettuce, a few tomatoes, 3 olives, onion and pepperoncini. Good food and decent service while sitting at the small bar made me ask myself why I haven't come here before, especially since I don't live that far away. Though the meals are typically served both as a small and large version of family style, if you're solo at the bar, they present the lunch menu even at night. This means you don't have to over-order or plan for leftovers. So I could try the Chicken Limone which looked very appealing in the description, with a side of Spaghetti to sample their pasta. Both were quite good, the chicken was a perfect single skinless boneless breast portion, and tender, and the lemon and caper sauce was excellent. The Marinara was good also, nice and bright, but a touch over-sweetened for my taste. I also added a meatball as a side and it was HUGE! It broke the garlic rule for cuisine by having so much chopped garlic that the garlic flavor advanced over everything else, but if you like a lot of garlic this meatball (also with Marinara) is for you - and it can easily serve 2 or 3 people. But do note: if you are eating solo and planning on seeing somebody important the next day as I was, it probably isn't the best thing to have without the other person eating it, too. The star of the show, however, was a massive chunk of homemade cheesecake with raspberry topping. And I've got to tell you, I am so tired of restaurants passing off frozen cheesecakes as homemade - nobody believes it anyway. So always suspicious when anybody says "homemade" and "cheesecake" in the same sentence, I asked the bartender if he was telling me the truth and he said yes. And indeed, this slice of perfection was delicate and creamy and easily one of the best restaurant cheesecakes I've ever eaten, and I had it with a single shot of espresso that was very nice. Actually, it was more a slab than a slice, and probably weighed close to a pound, so it definitely packed out into a to-go box. I would really like to explore the menu further, and look forward to coming here with friends and eating family style. read more

Long-time patron but first time ordering to-go. Full-disclosure, I wouldn't have gotten dinner from here today were it not for a local resident mailer they sent. Living literally a five minute walk away, I have Brio, Armand's Victory Tap, and even La Barra nearby for Italian. We usually take larger groups who come and visit here because of the casual atmosphere, good food, and the large portions. So today, my daughter and I figured we were hungry so why not splurge for a $33 small lasagna and a $21 small calamari to go because "they have big portions". Well I picked up our order and when I got home and pulled the food out of the bag, it looked like I got someone's leftovers. That's how small the portions are. The full small order of lasagna that "feeds up to 3" was more like a slightly larger version of an individual meal at Armand's. There were 15 pieces (yes, we counted) of calamari. I understand you have to account for shrinkage because of the steam in the sealed package so why not put more knowing that will happen? Instead it looked just sad. I noticed the huge lemon wedge more than the squid. I'm a little Asian guy so when I say they were small portions, you know they must be small With all of the competition nearby, you would think they'd be more mindful at things like this. When I entered the place, there was a strong smell of used socks (probably of the tobacco that was heavily smoked in years gone by). I had lemonade with very little ice (the way I like it). It was more like water with very little lemonade. The chicken parmesan wasn't bad but was overcooked nonetheless. The spaghetti with meat sauce was flavorless. I ordered a lasagna tonight from Bucca di beppo, it's 1 of my favorite dish from here. The menu said a small should feed 3 people, 1/$11,3/$33,so it costed $33 for the small lasagna. Buca di Beppo is always a great place to go when you have a large group, and especially if that large group involves lots of young kids. Dishes here are primarily served family-style, so everyone can get as little or as much as they want! Our party of 16 had plenty to eat that accommodated to all our varying preferences and all the kids were happy too! Can't go wrong with the ANY of the chicken dishes (favorites are the saltimbocca and marsala). The baked ziti was a hit with the kids. Pizzas are also great to share (italian sausage and arugula and the veggie pizza were so good)! For a shareable side, the brussels sprouts and prosciutto was the favorite but everyone also loved the mushroom risotto. read more

I have been to several different Buca locations and they all have LOTS of pictures and junk on the walls but this one could stand some serious dusting. The food was good. Took a group of Out of Country guests on Sunday, 10/21/18 Upon reaching were told we did not have a reservation at 5:30 pm, which I had made the previous day. Not a good impression on the guests. Staff gave us a "pope's table" in another room. Were seated by 5:40 the server was polite. Bread/olive oil arrived after 6:00 pm. I was told there was a shortage of bread. It was NOT fresh, but cold and hard. The appetizers came late. It appears SUNDAY evenings, there is a staff shortage as well. Bruschetta, spicy shrimp,meat balls and egg plant P. were very good but not other entrees which the group ordered. $ 20 were taken off the bill for the inconsistencies. I want to order my own food (I usually don't eat meat) but I went with my husband so of course we have to share Bc the portions are for 2-3 people- smallest size. I like the decor, it's fun. But they really need to fix their seats.... restaurant was empty and they sat us in a booth all taped up with no cushion!?!? What the heck??? Bruschetta was delish, presentation was very original. I loved this place but after my pick up tonight, I will never go back. Their portions have dwarfed while the prices have risen. As this wasn't bad enough, the quality of the food was TERRIBLE. Salmon was dry. Cannolini was flat and salty. I could have bought a frozen Stoffers and have had a better meal. Call me crazy, but I like this place. They get me on the apps. That mixed greens salad with Gorgonzola (and Prosciutto on the side for my BF) is delicious! And the Pan seared mozzarella is something I'll gladly clog my arteries for. The main meals here are just okay but it's a huge portion and I like the family style menu. I think that the portions here have gotten smaller in the past few years but that's just a better reason to fill up on the giant mixed greens salad and pan seared mozzarella. I especially like this place because it's so easy to call ahead and get stuff to go. Especially if I'm going to a potluck or dinner with friends. I like that I can just call up Buca, order a big ole salad, and even though everyone knows I didn't make the dish I brought to the party, they still don't know how bad of a cook I am. My letter to Buca Corporate sums up my recent experience at this travesty of a restaurant: Dear Buca, Let me start by saying that I love your food. This is a problem, because I simply cannot tolerate your Lombard restaurant any longer. My check number tonight was #330982. I believe that this location should discontinue the mirage that they offer curbside service, because they don't. After placing my order, and waiting in the parking lot watching Buca employees smoking their heads off for twenty minutes, I finally went in to claim my order. The hostess, as usual, claimed she didn't see me, and meanwhile, my order had been sitting on the counter for 15 full minutes before I arrived. Don't get me wrong... I eat carryout 4-5 days a week, and used to order Buca at least once a week. It's standard to have to walk in to pick up take out. I don't mind it. But when you continue to goad me with promises of simply driving up and having a courteous employee deliver me my order to the car... well, when that doesn't happen, I feel very annoyed. By the way, this happened three times last year. I stopped ordering take out from this location. Today, I decided to give you another chance, and was so very disappointed. I guess you don't really care about customer comments, and I can see the restaurant is doing well enough that they probably prefer I stop coming by... but it is truly a disappointment to say I will spare myself the aggravation in the future, and order salad and pizza at Giordano's.
