My letter to Buca Corporate sums up my recent experience at this travesty of a restaurant: Dear Buca, Let me start by saying that I love your food. This is a problem, because I simply cannot tolerate your Lombard restaurant any longer. My check number tonight was #330982. I believe that this location should discontinue the mirage that they offer curbside service, because they don't. After placing my order, and waiting in the parking lot watching Buca employees smoking their heads off for twenty minutes, I finally went in to claim my order. The hostess, as usual, claimed she didn't see me, and meanwhile, my order had been sitting on the counter for 15 full minutes before I arrived. Don't get me wrong... I eat carryout 4-5 days a week, and used to order Buca at least once a week. It's standard to have to walk in to pick up take out. I don't mind it. But when you continue to goad me with promises of simply driving up and having a courteous employee deliver me my order to the car... well, when that doesn't happen, I feel very annoyed. By the way, this happened three times last year. I stopped ordering take out from this location. Today, I decided to give you another chance, and was so very disappointed. I guess you don't really care about customer comments, and I can see the restaurant is doing well enough that they probably prefer I stop coming by... but it is truly a disappointment to say I will spare myself the aggravation in the future, and order salad and pizza at Giordano's. I have been to Buca previously and have been pleased. I received an email promo titled 4 for $40. It is my fault that I did not read the promo more closely. It was nothing like I imagined. We got a flavorless Caesar Salad for the 4 of us, and an equally boring Linguini Alfredo with garlic bread. I expected a lot more for the price. The service was functional. I am a huge Italian food lover and I hear all the time that Buca is not good, but I have to disagree....My family has been coming here for as long as I can remember and every time I come here I leave happy. The chicken limon is fantastic and the rosa pasta... don't even get me started..! The only thing that stinks is that they don't have a lunch menu and the portions are large which comes along with a large bill. My husband and I enjoy coming to the Lombard location very much. We've been coming there for years. The Chicken Marsala and Carbonara are among our favorite menu items. Over the years we've come to know Susan and when she's working, we always ask to sit in her section. She's always friendly, outgoing, and attentive, even when it's busy. We convinced my father (mother and 2 brothers) to come to the Lombard location for his 80th birthday 3 years ago. He's a native of Naples, Italy and he doesn't like to eat out. A huge table with a bust of the Pope. Waiters who are either deaf and/or just plain dumb. I asked for a Pellegrino at least eight times.... Overcooked calamari, shrimp and God only knows what other fried delicacies were served as our "appetizers". Psuedo Italian dishes that all tasted the same...with the exception of the Gnoochi that had a taste all by itself...gross! In short,a nightmare I am glad I do not have to experience again! read more

Went here tonight with my husband for a nice meal out. Placed in a booth in the bar area - first mistake. It was so loud we couldn't hear each other. Asked three times for water before we got it. Also, my silverware came wrapped in a soiled napkin. Took three reminders before I got a new napkin. Did not like the menu in that it requires you to order for two or four. Told the waiter we did not like that and he supplied a lunch menu instead. Order from the lunch menu but meals came back huge as in the dinner menu. In the end, the server took care of this which we appreciated. However, the food was sub par - chicken marsala was crunchy around the edges and chicken parmesan was over done. On top of all that, bus loads of hockey players came in which elevated the level of noise in the restaurant. All in all, a sub-par experience and we will not be going back there. read more

I read the reviews before joining a friend here for dinner and figured the overall low average was probably an anti-suburban chain restaurant bias. It really isn't; this place is overpriced and unimpressive, and this is coming from a girl that actually really likes Claim Jumper and PF Chang's. For those short on time I'll summarize this whole review: Maggiano's does the same stuff this place is doing, and they do it better. Everything here comes in "family" sizes, which means you're stuck sharing everything. Fortunately my friend and I were able to agree on our selections, but I really don't like that they don't even offer the option to order items in single serving size. We started with the garlic bread which was fine, but surprisingly a little bland. I've made better garlic bread at home. We also split the gorgonzola apple salad, which was really boring and drowning in oily salad dressing and the stuffed shells, which were fine but only slightly better than Lean Cuisine pasta lunches I've had. For dessert we had the chocolate cake which was actually really good. The cake is the only reason they're getting two stars instead of one. Throughout the whole meal I thought the food seemed really...familiar, and then it struck me - it was really reminiscent of the food I had at Tony and Tina's Wedding, which is supposed to be like really bad wedding buffet food. Overall, that's what I'd say Buca Di Beppo's food is like - bad wedding buffet. Even with a $10 off coupon, our meal came to $27 per person after tax and tip, which I thought was way, way too high for the for the quality of food we got. Our waiter was also pulling a faux-rude Ed Debevic's like act, which I found offputting. I'm not sure if they instruct the wait staff to act like bad Italian-American wiseguy stereotypes of if this guy was riffing, but I hated it. And all I could think with the tacky decor was that this stuff must be so, so dusty. read more

UPDATE: I want to clarify that is was for the Orland Park location. However, i had to deal with corporate and the insurance company for Buca de Beppo and am still incredibly unimpressed. They are denying any responsibility even though others were sick, paramedics said it was the food and others were sick at that location the week prior. I wasn't looking for a big payout - just some ownership of what happened and doing something about it! My friend and I both got food poisoning at this location. My friend was so sick we had to call an ambulance. The restaurant manager said after shoving the bill I my face "if it make you feel better she's the second one tonight!" nope, doesn't make me feel better. They refunded my bill after I complained but are now denying responsibility. Be warned! There was another review where they said they got food poisoning the week before were there! read more

Flashbacks. Not a good thing when you enter a restaurant. These post traumatic mind-pics were not food related. They were date related. Circa 2000-whatever. After a late night showing of "A Beautiful Mind". That evening ended abruptly when I poured my date's martini over his head and left in a cloud of smoke. Well, same place, different guy, but it was hard to conquer that "glassy eyed please don't let this happen again" feeling. I get a kick out of the decor here; though it still has a vaguely musty quality to it. We were seated in a nice booth and got started with drinks. Not a busy night; which was probably good. No rush from the server. I ordered the antipasto salad and he got the caprese salad. Nice beginning, both were good, as well as fresh. The bread was crusty on the outside and warm and soft inside. Maybe psychoanalysis would not be necessary following this dinner. I chose the chicken limone and I'm so glad I did. The chicken was delicious and I loved the combo of the lemony butter with tangy capers. It was really good. My friend got the saltimbocca, though not a favorite of mine; he enjoyed it. I am always impressed if a place can hit me with a great cup of after dinner coffee. And that they did. We shared a serving of the tiramisu. I was surprised that it had a heavy taste to it (not texture, mind you), but there was no mistaking the Expresso or Rum flavors. A couple of bites were enough for me. On a whole, this was an A-OK experience; and I doubt it will be a decade before I return. read more

I used to sort of like this location. A little too loud, room temperatures too chilly, nothing intolerable. Until tonight. We decided to get a glass of wine at the bar while waiting for our seats. For no discernible reason, the bartender completely missed my glass and spilled red wine all over the bar - and me. Okay, no worries, nice guy, these things happen. Then, when I did get my wiped-out glass, it had someone's lipstick stains all over it. I should have just left then. We are seated. Shortly after, a couple of tables away from us, we watched one of the fine patrons lifting the bottom of his t-shirt, revealing his fat, hairy belly. As if that wasn't sufficiently beyond the pale of manners, HE THEN WHIPPED OUT A HYPODERMIC NEEDLE, AND INJECTED SAID FAT, HAIRY GUT WITH SOME KIND OF SUBSTANCE. AT THE TABLE. Oh. My. God of Etiquette, banish this cretin from any public eating establishment forever. I mentioned the episode to our waiter, who offered a lame apology. And charged us for bread we thought came with the meal. Also in the dining room were lots of young children whose clueless parents let them run around and scream. Usually, this alone annoys the hell out of me. I spent years gently educating my child to have good manners. It does work. But I would have tolerated the kids if the gut-drug dude would have considered self-medicating in the men's room. Both: Toxic combination. In other news, the tomatoes in the shared caprese salad looked like wagon wheels. For $15, I expected a much higher quality of vegetables, let alone five wimpy tomatoes barely covered with mozzarella. The salad is supposed to serve two to three people? No way. In keeping with the faux-vintage Italian decor: Add to the walls another Circle of Hell in Dante's Inferno. I came here for my 29th birthday and brought three friends who had never been. I've dined in at Buca di Beppo in Lombard, and in Chicago, on several different occasions, so my experience for my birthday, I thought, would have been pleasant. Whoever the male host they currently have, (bald, mustache, late 30s), needs to go. Unprofessional, cocky grin - replace him with someone who isn't bitter about their job. Regardless, after we were finally seated, our waiter, Jason, didn't ask if we wanted to start off with drinks. Didn't offer us water. My drink, which was first forgotten about, then upon arrival was the wrong drink, and when I finally received the correct one I originally asked for - was almost 40 minutes into us being there. My friends food came out first, to which my boyfriend and I who were sharing stuffed shells were told, "your food is coming right out." By the time our food arrived, my friends were almost done with their meals. We didn't have any drinks again - and it took them another 20 minutes to re-fill everyone. When I asked Jason if he was busy that evening - he replied that he had several rooms he was waiting on and thanked us for being patient. Management error at it's finest - not enough help. I felt uncomfortable and disappointed that I had brought my friends to a place whose service I thought would have reflected our 153.00 dollar bill. There were other things throughout the evening that were unprofessional and lacked customer service etiquette and finesse, which included the floor manager and the host. I will not be back here for a very long time and will not be recommending Buca di Beppo to other family or friends. Placed an online order this afternoon then went to restaurant to pickup. However the employee couldn't find my order and said someone else already took it. I had to wait another 20 minutes to get the food. I talked to manager but both the manager and the employee were very rude and didn't say one sorry fot the trouble. Worst experience ever. read more

I've only been here for parties, but have been satisfied every time. The decor is a little over the top Italian, but it does provide for some good visual interest while you eat. We had a party room in the back for my latest excursion here, and thankfully, a server offered to walk with us back there- there are tons of curves to navigate and I doubt we would've ever found it on our own! Food was pre-selected for us on this occasion with chicken parm, rigatoni with sausage, Cesar salad, bruschetta, and plain spaghetti and bread. I was a little late to the event, and never knew there was spaghetti, but they were gracious in bringing out extra salad for me when I got there. The chicken was crispy and with good flavor, and I liked the rigatoni with sausage pieces in it too. The bruschetta didn't hold up that well- it was getting pretty soggy and limp by the time I could take some, as it rests in a huge martini glass full of tomatoes, but the flavor was pretty great. Everything I had was satisfying, but not mind blowing. I enjoy coming here, but honestly wouldn't think of it on my own if I wanted a night out with Italian food. read more

What an amazing place! I decided to have a luncheon there after my dad's funeral for 50 guests and all I can say is I am sure glad I did! I dealt with Andrew one of the managers, he was kind and very helpful at a time of need. From the moment my guests arrived they were served delicious food by two very attentive young ladies. Everything was amazing from the bread to the salads, to the pasta, but my favorite was the Chicken Parmesan, it was to die for! And for dessert they brought out trays of fresh delicious cannoli's. So, after my previous review the restaurant contacted me and apologized for the problems I had and asked if I'd give them another chance. I did, and they actually made quite a few improvements. Our whole meal went nicely. Food was good, as usual, and service was much MUCH better. The manager came over during our meal to check on things, which I liked and we chatted briefly about how things improved. Fun, wacky, crazy... a great option for a busy workday's lunchour. Friendly customers and really crazy decor but excellent italian food. Their tomato sauces are from scratch, the pasta al dente, and the desserts fabulous. Try for dinner if you dare approach one of their full-sized (and a litlte costlier) entree dishes. Better get a couple of items and share them in a group, and be prepared to still have leftovers. Lunch menu is well balanced and representative of their best dishes. Try the mozarella, tomato, and pepper caprese; caesar salad; eggplant parmesan (the best I've had, nice and crunchy on the outside and delectable inside); the spaghetti pomodoro; or the chicken limone. Served family style, and you're guaranteed to have leftovers the next day, which are just as tasty. I like the Macaroni Rosa with chicken, broccoli, mushrooms, peas & bruschetta in a Rosa sauce, also good is the Margherita Pizza. True authentic Italian dishes, and pretty good considering it is a chain restaurant. There are so many choices, but I always end up getting my favorites here, and not venturing to far out from that. I haven't met a kid that hasn't had something they didn't like from here. Service is good, especially over the lunch hour when time is limited during the work week. They also offer carry out which is convenient. Definitely a place to bring a group of people so you can try a couple entrees. The kitchen table is the best seat in the house, but make a reservation ahead of time, this books pretty fast. A place you can over eat at, so come hungry! This was my first trip to Buca Di Beppo and most likely my last. I'll give you the good, the bad, and the ugly. The Good: The restaurant itself is conveniently located near two major thoroughfares in Lombard's Yorktown Mall area. I had arrived here for a meet-the-parents-of-the -girlfriend experience. I found the restaurant's appearance to be clean and orderly. The washrooms were clean and I was amused by the humorous phallus pictures on the walls of the Men's room. We ordered the Quattro al Forno, Spicy Chicken Rigatoni, a salad, and Fettucini Alfredo with Shrimp. The Spicy Chicken Rigatoni was baller (very good), salad was good, no shrimp for me but was reported as satisfactory by the others, and the Quattro was seemingly tasty until... The Bad: Quattro was seemingly tasty until one of my dinner companion found a long blonde hair within. Correct me if I am wrong but this dish didn't specify that it included Angel Hair or any type of hair whatsoever. Shortly thereafter another table mate found a similar keratin strand in her food. The Ugly: HAIR! The staff was very apologetic and was more than willing to replace the dish that was faulty. For an moderately upscale Italian dinning experience I was disgusted with the overabundance of hair in our food. While exiting the building I took note that all the cooks were wearing a white hat over their heads. Perhaps it was an isolated incident from a disgruntled employee but nonetheless it is unacceptable. If the food wasn't tasty I would have given 1 star. read more

I like the food at this location. We had booked a Christmas dinner at this location for last night a few weeks ago. We had done this with our family previously and enjoyed it very much. Last night when we arrived (10 minutes early) the lobby was packed and there was a number of people outside of the door. We checked in and the hostess informed us that we would be seated 20-30 minutes after our reservation time. We waited for some time and my wife went back and the hostess stated it would again be 20-30 minutes past the time previously provided to us. The lobby was packed with families shoved into a small space that had been waiting for 45 minutes or more for their tables. The restaurant had obviously overbooked the seating in a SIGNIFICANT way. To do this to someone on Christmas is just wrong. We left. read more

My family and I went here to celebrate my moms birthday. We made a reservation and were seated promptly. We got to walk through the kitchen to our table which is a neat experience. I've worked in a restaurant before, but for people who have always wondered what a kitchen is like, here is your chance. The kitchen also has a table that you can sit at to see all of the action. The kitchen was clean and neat and all of the staff was very friendly. Each person we walked by said hi and asked how we were doing. One would have thought we were getting the royal treatment! Once we were seated, we were greeted promptly by our server Missy. We were seated in an area that did not have too many tables which was nice. You do not feel like you are sitting on top of others tables and its not as noisy. Once we were greeted, she took our drink orders and arrived back in a timely manner. She was knowledgable about the menu and very friendly. I highly recommend trying the Sangria! We were unsure how much of what to order as this food is served family style. We told her what we wanted to order and she told us to order a large or small of each. I highly recommend trying the stuffed chicken. This is one of the restaurants specialties. The food arrived in a timely manner and I think that we had enough of each for a group of six. We ordered three different dishes. One large of the stuffed chicken, a small lasagna, and a small rigatoni. Everyone in our party loved the lasagna. I did not, simply because I am not a huge fan of it. As we finished up our dishes, Missy was prompt with clearing the plates away. There was also another server who worked in that area that also cleared plates off the table. It's nice to see this in a restaurant setting. This way, you are not sitting with plates in front of you once you are done. After we boxed our food up, dessert was delivered to our table. We got the brownie in a huge Martini glass served with six scoops of ice cream. This was a good dessert to share. Overall, this was a great dining experience. I would definitely recommend people to eat here. Just make sure to go with a group of people, so you can try more plates and because it is served family style. read more

Too bad that I can't give this restaurant a 0 star. We did an online order from this restaurant and got a confirmation number. We went to pick it up and they couldn't find the order. I even spoke with the manager and gave her the confirmation number and she couldn't find it . Then I went to my Charge card website to find the number for Slice (third party company they use for online order) and they found my order right away and I asked them to cancel it. It is pathetic that after 3 phone calls, they couldn't find my order. If they can't handle online order, they shouldn't be in that business. Be careful when you do online order from this restaurant. And due to Covid-19, that is the only choice we have. There are other good restaurants in that area. You'll have better luck ordering from those restaurants. read more

I had eaten at a Buca in Chicago and had a great time. Our large family ate at what was called the "pope" table and it rotated so we could pass the food around by rotating the table. I remember needing to return to a Buca. Well I finally did. So I figured I was in for a fun night when I visited this location. As with any Buca, they decorate in a fun way and your eyes always have somewhere interesting to look. That being said, we walked through the kitchen on the way to our table. I loved seeing the chefs in action and I thought that was great. They even had a table set up in the kitchen. The chefs table is the best place to eat in any restaurant. However, this was where the compliments will stop. The food was my main concern. Everything was average. Nothing stood out to me as being good enough to return. I had the lasagna which was the special for the night. The lasagna I ate was not so special. I can easily make a better one at home and I don't have a drop of Italian in me. I left fairly disappointed. It's not that anything was bad, it just wasn't great. And when I go out to eat I'm looking for a great experience. The one thing I will say is that my leftovers tasted better the next day than they did at the restaurant. Usually it's the opposite so I found that interesting. If you are looking for Italian food I would try another place. Maggiano's is nearby which has much better food in my opinion for around the same price. read more

We had a bad experience at this location with terrible management not contacting us the last time we had an issue with the quality of food and terrible take out service. We decided to give your location another try for father's day since we were in the area. We were just given one piece of sandwich bread on a white plate today to share for 3 of us, presentation was tacky (its usually in a basket) Our server who never introduced himself or the guy he was training by name, the receipt says Tim. He said buca no longer had flavored teas(which we always get when we're there). We ordered a carafe of strawberry basil lemonade instead, which the prices aren't listed in the menu but when we got our receipt it was $42. That's absurd, I could see paying $32 at most, but $42 it is not worth it for a carafe of ice. If you're going to charge that much it should be listed on the menu to give patrons the opportunity to choose not to order it based on the cost. It says the drink serves up to 3 people, we each had one 4oz beer taster glass filled. It's just disappointing the lack of customer service at this location. I'm not sure if the staff just doesn't care, but we will not be back again. We didn't feel welcomed and we felt like we were I welcomed from the minute we walked in. I'm not sure what's going on here but staff is seriously lacking quality customer service. We left a 20% tip but felt like the whole experience was not worth our $150. I work in the service industry and would never imagine giving the type of service we've now received twice at this location. Attitude clearly trickles down from the top, and if management doesn't care to offer a simply apology email back the last time, we should have known better to give them another dime. read more

I'm on the fence about this place. My salmon was good but my pasta loving wife wasn't thrilled with her pasta dish. Also, it did feel like a forced Italian place, as if Trump walked through it and added some fakery to the place. The wait staff was very attentive. Non lo so... I really couldn't get a good read on this place before, during, or after the meal. I'm still confused days/weeks later. I don't want that to reflect a negative vibe, but I just didn't know what to expect prior to the meal and never got the answer of what it was that I was supposed to be expecting after I left. I'm placing emphasis on my confusion because I couldn't/can't tell if BdB is a themed restaurant, or if it's dated, or if its a fine dining 'fail' (it could have been fine dining at one point). I also didn't realize there was more than one, call me naive if you want, but I just had never had the opportunity in the past to know that. I guess my main source of the confusion was the decor. I got a kick out of looking at everything and enjoyed how retro everything was, but I'm hoping that's the idea. If I'm just now figuring out the obvious, feel free to let me know. Like if I was reviewing Ed Debevic's and commented that the servers were rude, I would want someone to clue me in and say 'thats the point'. Confusion aside, I enjoyed what we ate. We arrived late for the party we were invited to (thank you traffic) and we had their house Vino Rosso which was pretty smooth for red table wine; I rather liked it. We also dipped into the calamari which was great....I have an inkling that I'm a sucker for calamari. We also had the baked zitti, lemon chicken, and another spicey pasta dish which had a mean kick, but very nice flavor. I'm a huge fan of tapas and I see that directly contributing to my enjoyment of family style eating, where everyone gets to share. I like discussing food, hence my involvement with Yelp, so when the entire table can talk about the food, I'm a fan. One negative about the dining experience was that the room we were in was very loud. I had to yell or get really close to whomever I was talking to at the time. I know there was a loud group near us, but it seemed like this area of the restaurant was prone to a high noise level, even with the Pope supervising everyone. Wifey absolutely hates this place, but I've gotta say that I kinda like it. Is it extremely gaudy? Absolutely. The weird pictures speckling every inch of wall space is your first indication. The urinating fountain statue outside of the restrooms leaves a lasting impression. Is it loud and busy? Definitely. The wait can be pretty substantial without a reservation, and the mass of people in the foyer quickly indicates that this is a popular locale. But it truly is a good place to bring a large group of people, the atmosphere and energy of the restaurant will help your party will fit right in. Are there better Italian restaurant options around the area? Sure. But Buca di Beppo is a solid place to go for a reasonably family-style Italian meal. Oh yes. Italian food. My fave. The food is delicious, and the portions are HUGE! You totally get what you pay for. Even for big eaters, you can pretty much share one dish between 2 people. I miss the chicken on top of MOUNDS of mashed potatoes, though. I wonder when they discontinued that. It was dynamite. read more

Horrible, tasteless interior design, claustrophobic dining conditions, and mediocre food. I pity anyone who thinks this is "good" or "fresh." The server literally jerked a coffee cup/saucer out of my hand. Why?! The Chicken Limone is good, but also is a dish that a three year-old child could be taught to make. Have I mentioned the HIDEOUS DECOR? It is so bad you can actually taste it. Seriously amateur food, and the entire experience is oppressive and irritating.
