Oh the excitement of having a Bucharest near the house. I was waiting patiently for the grand opening. I couldn't wait to visit. I first tried Bucharest earlier in the week (Tuesday) and was pleasantly surprised with the venue. From the open space entrance to the cozy wood benches and booths. I thought it looked pretty hip and contemporary. With the abundance of staff waiting to assist me and cook my order, I couldn't wait to get my order. Looking at the menu, I was excited to see the vegetarian options. I ordered the veggie shawarma. Had I known (or asked) what was in it, I would have omitted the cheese to make it vegan. Nonetheless, the price was right for $5 and some change. After I placed my order, I had to wait no more than 10 minutes. Although the shawarma was tasty, My only complaint was the sandwich was messy. It came apart immediately. Bummer. Next time, I'll order a fork and knife too. Fast forward to my experience yesterday evening. My husband treated me and my daughter to dinner. She ordered a chicken shawarma and I another veggie shawarma (much better in presentation than Tuesday). Unfortunately I can't say the same for the customer service. My husband ordered a egg cheese burger (took 20 minutes longer to cook) and we were almost done with our sandwiches before he even gotten his burger. No apologies were made or prior notification of the wait time. I ordered shoestring fries and he ordered curly fries. When I received my fries another young lady ( high school age, it seems) confronted me about my order. She insisted I didn't order them, nor paid. We referenced the receipt and saw the cashier didn't put the fries on my order (honest mistake). So while we are still waiting for my husbands hamburger, which was a horrible customer service experience anyway, The young lady threatens to throw away the fries if I don't pay. Seriously! Is this the biggest concern at the moment. I told her to take the fries. We waited 10 minutes longer to get the hamburger. Simply horrible customer service. Since my husband is already hard to please, he complained the hamburger tasted like a frozen patty (definitely not made with fresh beef), we had to ask for napkins, silverware and updates on our order....I know for sure he won't be back. Ok so my very first order was about a month ago, I ordered two chicken & hummus and a fattoush salad. My husband stated the chick/ hummus container was slacking like one order had been split into two containers, the hummus had an odd taste like it wasn't fresh so being with child I stopped eating it. We decided to give them another try, the second visit we ordered one chick/ hummus and 2 salads. Hummus was fresh however my husband was right about the portion because this one was full Today I must say I was very disappointed I ordered a fattoush salad with the chicken on the side, as I began to eat I realized tomatoes and cucumbers were not fresh at all and there was barely any lettuce, so I called took the salad back for what I thought was a fresh one, when I got home it "appeared" fresh as there was lettuce added but when I started to eat it appears they put the returned salad on the bottom and topped it with fresh lettuce and feta, same soft cucumbers and wilted tomatoes. Waste of time and money!!! And was still hungry! In conclusion I "used" to love Bucharest, and would drive 20 mins to get a Shawarma but over the last few years quality has declined, there's no consistency and now that they are within walking distance, its not even worth the walk! #disappointed read more

Yay! Bucharest comes to the burbs of Detroit!! This location was supposed to open last summer and due to who knows why it didn't but it's here now. Been a fan of this place when it was downtown near Centaur Bar. I used to drive 30min to get a 6-pack of Shwarmas and now it's 5min walking distance from my house!! I'm really glad they built in Detroit and on the much needed revitalization of The Avenue of Fashion. Ordered a chicken fattoush salad w/o onions or green peppers and got an entire plate full!!!!! The oil and vinegar was nothing but oil, didn't get any pita bread and hardly had any pita in the salad!!!!! Living in the historic district, this is our go to place for good food fast! It's extremely convenient that you can order online and pickup your order. Since the updates made on Livernois, parking has been made even easier. The sandwich of choice is the Bucharest as it has everything a classic chicken Shawarma has but there are french fries stuffed in them at all. Be warned! The garlic sauce is intense and should not be eaten in large quantities, if you plan on having a date night! The service is always fast, organized and accurate. read more

Overall the Bucharest chain holds a decent reputation. Unfortunately this location (Livernois) does not hold up to the enterprise customer service standards. 1. Items were missing from our initial order. 2. Called to inform the staff. The cashier who answered said "well if you ain't coming up here today its nothing we can do". I informed her that I live very far and was taking my grandparents dinner. I can come the next day because by the time they called I was too far. I asked for a manager. 3. I explained to the manager (Ricardo) that we live far and have to drive back to get our grandparents food. This is an inconvenience for anyone no matter where you live. Items should be correct and if not just at least apologize and guarantee at minimum the items to be available for the next visit. The lack of customer service was horrid. He did not apologize and when asked for complimentary item such a drink etc., he basically said no we should have checked the bag before we left. We can pick up the missing items and it would have been better to come the same night. 4. He placed us on hold without pressing mute. We heard him telling other staff/ or customers our situation. He said various disrespectful things about our complaints. He disrespected my grandparents (they were on three way when I called). He called us crazy for expecting compensation because we didn't check our bag. 5. When I informed him that we heard him, he didn't care basically said "oh okay". 6. When we returned to receive the missing items, he didn't recall talking to us. Luckily we had the receipt and time we spoke to him. Literally one day ago. 7. We placed another order that day. So I checked the bag before leaving. There was no sauce on the shawarma The salad had burst open causing oil to spill everywhere, and they failed to include the sides of garlic we paid for. I asked one of the staff to get me new bag and assist me with getting the oil off our food that was wrapped. She was looking at me like I was crazy. I informed her that the salad lid was never closed and oil is everywhere. I could have asked for all fresh items. I simply just wanted to wipe the containers and get new bags. The staff at this location was very unprofessional. We were observing the menu and the lady shouted twice I can help who's next while we were still deciding. Staff was flirting with one another behind the counter and hugging on each other in one of the booth's. One man was leaning on the cooking counter with his forearms while looking at his phone. I ordered from here today and my order took forever to get here, when it did arrive it was cold and everything had to be reheated. I had two chicken shawarma's mine had a decent amount of garlic on there but the meat was dried out, my daughter's barely had any sauce and her meat was dried out as well, we had to throw the fries back into the air fryer and after that, they were good. We loved Bucharest from the Park Bar days so we were really excited to have them in the neighborhood. Admittedly I am annoyed by the car traffic it created but glad it's here. The carry out is always busy so you have to think ahead. Overall the food is good, but you can definitely get better shawarma at other places. These days when getting sandwiches we've been getting the falafel but if the shawarma mood strike we now order the garlic on the side because it's way too salty (and they usually have a heavy hand with it). I've been opting for salad a lot more which is good but I feel like they never have enough lettuce though the toppings and dressing are always generous. read more

We live in the area and while walking our dog decided to order a large salad and sides of grilled chicken and lamb to go. Little did we know, after our walk home, there was no salad dressing in our original order. Luckily we went back in before leaving to order another side of salad dressing and garlic for an additional charge, because that's all we ended up with. We also ordered a side of pita bread and one piece was included in our entire order. We ordered a small hummus, and there was a one ounce salad dressing container full in our order. The food at bucharest is delicious, but it would be nice if the dressings and sides are considered by whomever is preparing take out orders. The manager stated the either/or resolution was the owners policy. DO NOT GIVE YOUR BUSINESS TO THIS LOCATION!! They are comically bad at operating as a restaurant. If you want the full details, here they are: Last night (27 March) we placed a very standard order, nothing too large (around $35 I think?). We called in the order, went there and picked it up, and to our dismay when we got back home they forgot two of our chicken shawarma sandwiches. So I called them asking for them to send a doordash delivery replacement or refund me so I don't have to make the 20-minute drive back out there, but of COURSE that's not possible with Bucharest. Why would it be? It's just basic customer service. Anyways, the manager says to come back tomorrow when they open and they'll refund me for the two sandwiches and give me replacements for free. With literally no other options available to me, I accepted the offer. But I think you can already guess at this point what happened when I arrived there today; of COURSE the current manager-on-duty said they have no ability to issue any refunds despite what the previous manager told me (which I know for a fact is a lie), and that all they can do is give me the two sandwich replacements for free "and an order of fries or something, if you want." So I again accepted the offer because what other choice do I have, right? I've now spent 80 minutes total driving back and forth from this location twice, so I might as well get some closure. 10 minutes later I get the bag with the replacement food. This review has a happy ending because at least we got a courtesy order of fries, right? THEY FORGOT THE FRIES. 2 OUT OF 2 ORDERS THEY'VE NOW MESSED UP.
