Saturday brunch time it was practically empty and it took forever to get greeted by a server for our drink order. And then we waited over half an hour for our food. Don't get French toast if you like it with butter because they don't have it. Only good thing we got was hot tator tots. I would have ordered their Cobb salad used to come with cheddar cheese now only blue cheese. The place could use a deep cleaning looking around and at the dirty vent over our table, can't imagine the kitchen. I used to love this place 10 years ago but all it did was go downhill. I lived in Lakewood when the Beer Engine first opened. After moving back to Ohio, I made the 25-mile trip back to Lakewood to head to the Beer Engine. Not sure what has happened in the last decade, but won't be heading back. I was told the wait was about an hour. It was Labor Day and apparent they were understaffed. Since all tables outside (except for one) was open, I asked if we could order a beer at the bar and sit outside. The host went to go ask. In the meantime, people coming in behind themselves just seated themselves at tables and the bar. In looking around, we only saw one gal behind the bar and no waitresses. After reading the reviews, it makes sense. Plenty of other places to eat. Glad I can at least cross that off my list now. read more

1st time visiting, definitely will go back. We had to try the pierogi special appetizer. Chicken cordon bleu served over grilled asparagus topped with some creamy good sauce! - they did not disappoint. We also tried their fried pickles, crisp not over coated served with a homemade cucumber wasbi dressing. Our group had amazing dinners as well. A Schnitzel burger which was made with fresh seasoned pork( got a small taste) perfect! 2nd meal was the Bacon BBQ burger again done perfect & last was my meal which I guess they are gearing up for St Patty's day. A rueben wrap.. stuffed rye wrap loaded with chunks of corned beef & saurkraut & a side of homemade thousand island dressing.. Very good spot on Madison Avenue with a parking lot which is ideal. Came here on a Sunday night around 7 and it was pretty packed both inside and on the patio. We were able to get a table inside and were seated quickly. It goes without saying they have the most diverse/extensive beer selection in Lakewood with every beer under the sun available. I ordered the Tuscan Burger for my meal which had bacon, roasted red pepper, caramelized onions, and herbed chèvre. This comes with a pickle and I got house cut fries upon recommendation from my server. Very good burger with the gourmet toppings being higher quality than the bun and patty in my opinion. The cheese on my burger was to die for. I was not feeling the house cut fries as I found them a bit bland. Next time I would try the tater tots or sweet potato fries. Service was solid checking on us for drinks and everything else. Buckeye beer engine is a great place to try a bunch of different beers, have a decent meal, and a conversation with a friend or date. read more

Always love coming here both for the food and the beer selection. Have been numerous time for dinner and brunch. Walking in it doesn't look like much but the food makes up for that. It can be very crowed some times so if you're looking for a table you might have a bit of a wait. My husbands go to is any of the burgers he enjoys them with a side of fresh cut fries. I switch it up from time to time. This past time we went I had their cheesesteak. Came out very hot and fresh the hoagie bun was so soft and the flavors of the cheese, onions and mushrooms, all blended very well. Brunch: can never go wrong with a build your own Bloody Mary! Rotating taps give even the regulars a chance to try new/different brews. The food is never not on point. I lean toward their burgers and house cut fries, but really.. anything on the menu we've tried, has not disappoint. And would definitely recommend the pretzel as an app. The past couple times we've stopped in, the service has been slow & even slacking a little, not sure if that's just because every where in the world is short staffed , or what.. that's why I'm not shorting them a star based on service at this point. read more

My go to items here are their chicken wings (flats all day), burgers, and an enjoyable PBR. A few friends and I stopped by for some late night munchies. We started off with the Beer Caps (jalapeño slices) and Mac n Cheese bites. Beer caps weren't too spicy. Mac n cheese bites were like little deep fried balls of heaven. I'm a sucker for a fried egg on top of a burger, so I ended up with the Cyclops Bacon burger (medium rare, of course). I always opt in for sweet potato fries where possible. Good hole-in-the-wall spot in Lakewood! Got wings to-go from here for the Browns game. Staff was friendly-- seems this would be a good place to grab a beer and watch a game or two. I'm not comfortable dining in too much right now with COVID so takeout was the option for me! My brother-in-law was with me and he tried to warn me that Buckeye Beer Engine's Hot sauce is no joke. I thought "oh whatever. Hot sauce is hot sauce." Fast forward 10 minutes after my meal and I was sweating so bad and resorted to guzzling egg nog to help make the sting go away. It was insanely hot for your typical hot sauce. It totally crept up on me too! House cut fries were really good as well. Definitely recommend those. Also the bartender was very nice and gave me lots of extra ketchup. Always appreciated! It should also be noted that the night we got takeout, the Browns won their first playoff game in 26 years! I love Beer Engine- the food is delicious and you get a lot of it. Weirdly, my daughter G craves their hot pretzel appetizer. What?! It's called Beer Engine- not Pretzel Engine! Lol. I, the carnivore, love their burgers. On Mondays they have $10 special burger and a beer from a select menu. You get house made chips too. Inside one finds a comfortable atmosphere with high-top tables in the bar area and 4-tops and booths in a small dining area. Since Beer is in the name parties of six can be loud and echoing off the walls which can be somewhat overwhelming in the small dining area so we prefer the bar area. The larger space absorbs some of the volume. The food is great! The service top shelf. The Cubano and the Ruben rank high for NE Ohio the selection of brews will not disappoint. The first thing that caught my eye walking into here for brunch was the Bloody Mary bar! Select any liquor of your choice and customize your Bloody Mary however you want. Unfortunately it took one hour to receive the food we ordered as we watched patrons ordered ate and left before we had a sniff of our food ...fortunately the great bar tender serving us took care of us for the trouble. I moved to Cleve six months ago. This is probably my new favorite place to eat. Definitely the best burger I've had since I've moved. This trip I had the Cyclops burger, perfectly cooked with a perfectly cooked egg on top. No complaints. Opted for wings instead of a side. They were really good. I usually prefer spicy to sweet on wing sauces, but I was up for something different so I went with Bourbon BBQ. Glad I tried it, as they were really good, but I'll probably stick with spicy in the future. Engine Hot is perfect for me. Great Service. Attentive without breathing down your neck, and knowledgeable about the product. Not much more to say here. Services as a great happy hour watering hole as well. Great beer list, getting as nerdy as you want with some great imported options: for example Tilquin and 3 Fontenein. Not much of a cocktail guy but they have plenty of options there as well. Good service, good food, great selection of beers. Came in on a Saturday afternoon at 4pm. Couldn't get into Bario next door, and if I had, I would have been the oldest in the joint x 2. Had a couple of beers including my favorite, Lagunitas IPA, and something made in a monestary called Orval. They were donating 50 cents of every beer sold to a help the kids charity, but I'm not sure if they'll get the half dollar, as they didn't charge me for the beer. Having dinner at another joint in a bit, so I ordered the fried pickles to get me over the hump. The breading was outstanding and the house made wasabi dip was good, but would have been great with a bit more wasabi. I used to love this restaurant and idk who they replaced in the kitchen but a lot of basic recipes changed. I used to love the quesadillas but they got real careless with it. This a great local place to try out! I've been here multiple times and have never had a bad meal. I order the Chorizo Breakfast Burrito this morning and it was great! Plenty of flavor in each bite. I could go without the avocado slices because I found my self having a couple bites of just avocado and tortilla. Maybe mixing it in in smaller slices with the burrito it would have been better. None the less, I would definitely get it again. Definitely get the tater tots on the side, they are to die for. Ask for the chipotle ranch for your side, the tots go great with it. read more

I will start by saying that I will absolutely go back and give this place another try. It's a neighborhood favorite of mine. But since I was asked by yelp to do this review, I will. I've long been a fan of Buckeye beer engine. Their burgers are outstanding, their chicken wings and boneless chicken wings are outstanding, just about everything on The menu is a winner. The service is usually pretty good, and the food is usually pretty fast and accurate. I even love the patio seating out front, and the way they create a Christmas tree out of kegs every winter. On this particular visit, the service was just a bit off. The wings that we ordered came out over done. We were in a bit of a hurry, and really didn't have time to send it back. Perhaps we should've sent it all back, but as I mentioned, we needed to roll. Another small hiccup was the servers questioning my order. I inquired what the price of the small dinner salad was because I did not see it on the menu. She could not find it on the menu either. She made several guesses about the price, but I asked her to check to see. She seemed put off by this. Maybe I read too much into it, but it felt that way and I don't normally feel like that when I order there. Like I said, I'm not gonna let this turn me off, because I'm such a big fan of this place. I'm not a beer drinker but they have an amazing collection of beers on tap the changes regularly and that all the servers seem to be pretty knowledgeable about. This is a great local place for pub food and a large beer selection. They rotate their menu frequently so there's always something new to try and they do include some vegetarian options so it's a good place to bring everyone. Definitely try their brunch, they have an awesome Bloody Mary bar with your choice of vodka and all of the fix-ins. The brunch food is a mix of classic and different options so you can try whatever you're in the mood for. As far as lunch/dinner, I would recommend any of their cocktails but my favorite is the negroni. For food, the burgers are always a win but especially the Tuscan burger! The staff is always friendly and helpful. If you have the option to sit where you want, Autumn is delightful - she has been our favorite so far!
