Just remember that if you show up between ~9pm and 2am, they will probably be running out of the more popular selections and specialty donuts. I hate the Buckeye Donuts on N. High Street, its busy and crowded and the donuts taste stale, but head a little south on High Street ( okay a lot south) and you'll find Buckeye Donuts SOUTH ! with a huge range of amazing tasty, delicious Donuts. Who cares if the donuts are bad for you, just grab however many you want and you'll be happy. I don't really want to write a huge review about donuts, I mean is there really anything else to say? The buckeye donut itself gets a 5-star. Amazing donut. The bismarck was just okay (I've had better at my local donut place in Arkansas). The low rating is because we did not receive a donut we ordered (and the meh quality of the bismarcks), which we should have checked, I guess, but which we didn't notice until we were already out of Columbus. Having gone to the campus location multiple times, I thought I'd try this one. That was a mistake. First off be aware they don't have nearly the menu their sister has. It's pretty much just donuts, coffee, hot chocolate. and juice. Well, the coffee was probably the worst I've ever tasted. Possibly because it was half cream, that the insane woman was dumping in my cup while asking if I wanted it. Um, yes? Do I have an choice? Then she didn't even fill up the 8 ounce cup. And it was so bad, that I could not even finish it. The donut was pretty good, but then again you have to be like skilled to screw up a chocolate creme filled donut. Okay, Buckeye Donuts. I've been a fan of yours from waay back. I agree with most of the comments that the South High location is the bomb-diggity as compared to the Campus location. South High is awesome. When I lived in LA, where it's impossible IMHO to find a good donut or pizza, I regaled my roommates with tales of how incredibly awesome Buckeye Donuts was. When one of them traveled with me back to the OH for a visit, we stopped in. He agreed that Buckeye Donuts blew his hometown fave spot out of the water. My personal favorite at Buckeye Donuts is the chocolate cream filled powered donut. Most places fill theirs with frosting, which makes the donut too rich and inedible. But Buckeye Donuts fills theirs with a chocolate cream/mousse like filling and it's heavenly. Until yesterday. I stopped in to get myself and my son a little nosh and was disappointed that my chocolate cream filled donut barely had a teaspoon of filling in it. It was mostly dough and powered sugar. Not that those are bad, just that I go there for a donut that literally explodes with cream filling and for my dollar ($.95 a donut) I felt that I was gipped. My son's jelly donut was the same way. I mentioned it to the lady behind the counter and she said, "okay" and walked away. I know times are tight, everyone is trying to save money but there was almost too little filling in the donut to enjoy it. I was very disappointed. So, I agree that as far as donut shops go, Buckeye Donut is the place to be. I just hope they aren't scrimping so much that they lose customers. read more

A wonderful tradition for the south-side of Columbus -- best breakfast sandwiches that I ever had, much more than other fast food places like McDonalds and Wendsy. Always open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The gyros are insanely good -- rare for a little donut shop -- but still excellent!! Red Velvet donuts are totally out of control -- perfect consistency and marvelous flavor!! It is important to support local businesses like Buckeye Donuts. The Buckeye Donuts shops are a well-established institution in the Columbus area since 1969 -- keep up the good work and thank you for all of the great work for our community! Probably the best donut place we have found so far in Columbus! We love that we are able to walk here from our house, especially in the Summer Mornings. Place is simple, has a old diner feel to it. The place has a bar area where you can sit and drink your coffee and have your donut. They have a Buckeye Donut that is heaven on earth (There is a picture on here of it). It's easy to find, right off of high street and everyone is always friendly when we go in there. It's a place we tend to gravitate towards when we have family staying over at our house and we want to provide some breakfast items! They also do special orders. They over heard me talking to my husband about a donut I used to get when I was little. They told me next time I come in to tell them and they will make it for me even though it's not on the racks. read more

So coming to Columbus for a band competition, my family was going to go to Buckeye Donuts.. For starters the kitchen was extremely dirty... like Dirt on the floor dirty. So I got a buckeye donut and that was the biggest disappointment. The location is crowed and busy, as it is near OSU. I encountered two beggars right outside .... One has a sigh that read, "I can smell your food!"... Awkward. I had a horrible lady curse hankering for a cruller and I was told this was the spot. Sadly, I was informed by the cashier that they no longer make crullers! My boyfriend and I stopped in on a Friday evening, stood in line for a few minutes, and walked out when we noticed flies flying around the donuts and what looked like a dirty back room, where the donuts were made. A young man who was ahead of us in line told the woman working behind the counter that there were flies around the food; she heard him, but completely ignored his remark. She was an older toothless woman with long, stringy hair and was the only person working both the front counter and the drive-thru; her hair was not pulled back or secured with a hair net. No thanks. EUREKA! Today I've found the very best donuts made in the U.S.. This from an age-challenged but happy and respected food critic, specializing in donuts made in California, New York, Washington DC, North Carolina, Virginia and now Ohio. A work friend referred them and I went this morning (1-22-10) at 7:30am getting about a dozen and a half of their large fancy types - a real variety. And from the comments of about 15 fellow workers, we were all in 7th Heaven. I'm going to be a regular customer henceforth. Especially tasty notables were the Maple Bismarcks, Boston Creme, Apple Fritters, Cinammon Buns and Twists ~ but best of all were the Buckeye donuts with the peanut butter cream in the middle. Chocolaty, moist, fresh, soft on my tongue and a delight to all my senses. The donut specialist at the drive-up window (a real great idea!) was remarkably friendly, helpful, fast and so very courteous - where did they find this gem of a woman? She's deserves a raise for her attitude alone. Cost to me was unimportant ~ when you find a treasure does price even come into it? Heavens to Betsy No! I would have paid double for these treats. They are just 6 minutes away from my office. Luckily there were 4 or 5 very good looking detectives and cops in there at the time. Next time I'll probably ask for their help in handcuffing me to stop me from buying much more than I can scarf down in a week! My doctor is going to kill me when I step on her scale! The donuts were ok at Best but the service was terrible and the place was discusting. The floor was very dirty. After not feeling well from eating their donuts, I was told that I could not use the restroom and had to drive to find one. I guess if you are a local and know this ahead of time, you can plan for it. I am from out of state traveling with my entire family, including infants. We purchased several dozen donuts but the staff treated us as if were bothering them. 1st and last time for me. Hope you have better luck. I will make this short as possible. We had an event on April 12, 2014. We called a day ahead to order 3 dozen donuts and 2 gallons of coffee to take to our event. The person who took our order said we were all set and it would be ready at 6:15AM on Saturday. We call around 5:45AM to ask if they could take payment over the phone, as we were having a volunteer pick it up. The lady who answered said they cannot take payment over the phone, did not know what the total would be and had no idea about the order. Okay, that sucks, but she said they could get it ready still and it would be ready by 6:15. Cool, no problem! At 6:30 AM the volunteer arrived to have none of the order ready. They were able to throw donuts in the box, but the coffee is another story. It was not ready. Alright, two gallons of coffee take about 10 minutes to brew. Shouldn't be too much of a problem, at least it will be hot! Time ticks by and ticks by. I get a call at 7AM from the volunteer staying the coffee still was not ready. They did not have any thermos boxes to put it in. Excuse me? Was this not something that could have been discovered an hour earlier when we called in to confirm the order? Or a half hour earlier when she went in to get the goods? Or even 15 minutes before that when it was suppose to be ready? After alerted about this issue, I immediately called Starbucks on Front St. They said the coffee would be ready in 10 minutes and we could go pick it up. Sure enough, it was and the ladies working there were very kind and delightful. After our event was over, I called Buckeye Donuts to ask what the issue was. They told me the same thing as they told the volunteer. There were no thermoses for the coffee. The lady told me she got in a 6AM and was someone different than I spoke to at 5:45 am. The lady at 5:45 am must have been confused and they should have known they were out. Well, I guess so, but why was I not alerted about this at 6AM when the "knowledgeable" person got in to work or why did our volunteer wait around for over 30 minutes for something that just wasn't going to happen? After this whole confusing situation took place, they still charged us full price for the donuts (when they were suppose to be part of a discounted package deal with the coffee) and couldn't even genuinely apologize for this mistake. All in all, this was a terrible experience and not something you want to go through the morning of your event. When you place an order ahead of time and call to confirm it the morning of, you have a certain level of trust and confidence that it will be taken care of. This will be the last time we ever visit this establishment or even think of using them for an event again. read more

It's not particularly clean, but the lady working is usually always friendly. The donuts are tasty, and the selection is usually pretty good. However, they're ALWAYS out of chocolate bismarks. I am a sucker for crullers. I simply love them. With chocolate icing. If they do not have the chocolate ones, they will take the plain ones into the back and glaze them with chocolate for me. How cool is that? The blueberry doughnuts are as good as they get. Dough is solid and tasty. Blueberries are real. The outside is lightly crusted. Perfect. All I have had are good to great. I wanted to write this review after I had been to the Buckeye Donuts on campus because a lot of the reviews seem to compare the two. I don't understand how these places share the same name honestly. They're two completely different places, with two different menus and two completely different atmospheres. This Buckeye Donuts is exactly what I expect a donut place to be. It's quiet, they have donuts for cheap, the service is decent and they leave you alone. That's all I want really. Let me preface my review by saying I am not a donut enthusiast, or a sweet-enthusiast for that matter. That being said, I work always to broaden my palette and hit all the hot spots in Columbus. This particular Buckeye Donuts location is.. quaint. You walk in and it looks like a small old diner, complete with swivel seats and a bar. I came in around 11am on a Saturday and although they have a wide variety of donut choices on the overhead menu, their actual selection was slim pickings. I decided on a couple donuts, one pumpkin, one blueberry. I can't complain about the donuts, they were moist, sweet and fresh. I opted to sit at the bar, soak in the atmosphere and eat my donuts as I peep the kitchen work through the open kitchen door and large eye-level window. At the time I was there, they had about 5 employees working, most of them back in the kitchen, and a pair that would periodically, although not often enough, check the counter and drive thru for customers. The staff was very friendly and hospitable, asking me multiple times if I had been helped and if I needed anything else. Most customers that passed through during my visit were upset at the small selection of donuts, understandably. Some walked out disappointed while others changed their preferences and chose from the 8-or-so flavors they had readily available. If I was a fan of sweets I could definitely imagine myself returning, for the simple fact that I love small, quaint placed like this. Not to mention, listening to the banter between the employees and a regular, Johnny, was rather entertaining. If you are going to visit, I suggest going inside.
