Honestly I almost didn't write this review because of fear of others finding out about this place and making it longer to wait on a table. Stopped here for a late dinner on a Sunday. This place has been around for a while but there's still a classy feel inside. The clientele seems loyal and a little clicky. The reviews gave me kind of a confused view but we had a good time. Drinks: We had wine and a spicy margarita. The spicy marg was so spicy we couldn't taste the appetizer till our last bite. I probably wouldn't order again. They have a large wine selection as well. Food: Our app was great and came out warm! The entrees were good as well. The filet was cooked perfectly and very tender. The au ju that came with it was a bit salty but I didn't mind. The real winner was the brownie. It was SO good. I would go back just for wine and dessert. Service: Our server was so sweet. Decided to come here last minute for dinner. It was packed as usual but we luckily got the last open table in the bar area. Ordered the cauliflower app special and it was very good. For dinner we tried the meatloaf and the crabcake sandwich and both were delicious. We always enjoy ourselves when we come here! read more

Our friends came in from Florida and we couldn't decide where to take them.We also invited another family to go with us.There was 10 of us! So we finally decided to do something different and go to Buckleys Tavern. It was a beautiful experience. The food was scrumptious. I would highly recommend anybody to go there for a relaxing afternoon. The last time we were here was this past summer. It was excellent and we looked forward to coming back when we were in the area again. So much for the dream... We came in on a quiet evening, I'm guessing the seashore's call lured away a lot of business. Anyway, not much to keep them from having issues with service, right? Oops...wrong. Just like the first time we were here (didn't mention it the first time because I don't get whiney about a single mistake) our entrees got dropped in our laps like *immediately* after our apps, IN SPITE of the fact that this time, as a precaution, we explicitly requested that they wait a while until starting up the mains so that we could enjoy our appetizer first. To add insult to injury, my main (a steak frites) came out cold, and not cooked as I ordered. The doneness is forgivable, I mess that up regularly, you've gotta be pretty good to nail that every time - but damn...this kitchen of theirs is quite undisciplined in some pretty fundamental ways. The service was excellent but I am disappointed in my entrée. I ordered the lobster, shrimp and crab salad on a buttered roll. The roll was clearly not toasted and buttered, and the shrimp were little teeny tiny shrimp about the size of the end of your finger and very little if any lobster so I won't order that again. I haven't been a big fan of Buckley's for some time--their food and wait staff are sub par. However a companion and I were in the area and decided to try it again. Sadly, the visit didn't raise my opinion of it. The calamari was chewy and the chili had a piece of bone in it. The accompanying tortilla chips were stale. Additionally, there were many gnats and at least one pesky fly in the dining area that seemed to favor our table. Swatting at insects did not make for the best experience. I'm over due on writing a review for Buckley's Tavern! I grew up near by and have been here a million times for brunch, lunch, dinner, happy hour...you name it. They have a great rooftop and an outdoor porch. Over the summer, it was nice to come here for dinner and know that there was outdoor seating available with socially distanced tables. The indoor portion is spacious too, so plenty of room to spread out. Buckley's has a very diverse menu with a little something for everyone. They have your typical bar food (love their wings, dips, and Mac and cheese) but also make some good salads and soups (the Thai soup is amazing, nice and spicy with big pieces of chicken and crunchy noodles). I'm only deducting a star because for some reason their takeout service is inconsistent. They often seem to be running way behind on what they tell you the pick up time will be on the phone. Last month, we picked up dinner and ended up waiting for 15 minutes while staff was chatting amongst themselves...only to realize that our bag was sitting behind the counter and no one brought it out. We frequently go to Buckley's Tavern. Have been going there regularly for over 20 years. The food is always excellent, the wait staff well try and friendly. It's prudent to make a reservation, even for lunch. Their health department reviews are very good and that is huge for us. This was my first time coming here. It is a cool little restaurant. We got sat & waited about 10 minutes before our server, Alex, even came to get our drink orders, by that time we're already ready to order. The worst part of this situation is that he was at the host stand as we got sat so it's not like he was super busy with other customers. When he did bring water, he didn't bring straws so I walked around looking for some, finally he came back & I had to ask for them. At the end of the meal I got up & got us all containers for the leftovers & my dad had to get up & find him to ask for the check. He was again sitting talking at the host stand. The clam chowder was really good. I tried the French dip with potato salad. Potato salad was kinda dry & honestly Arby's has a better sandwich. My mom got the Cubano, she wished she'd gotten the Reuben instead because that wasn't impressive either. I'd heard great things about this place & was excited to try it, I was pretty let down. I'm giving 3 stars hoping it was maybe just an "off" night. We may give it another shot because we've all worked in the restaurant industry & understand things happen. We had an extremely disappointing experience at our event last month. We were not greeted by our assigned server at the start of our event to introduce herself, there were not enough chairs or table settings for our guests (our guests had to pull their own chairs to tables & we had to ask for silverware with napkins multiple times), drink or food orders were not taken in a timely manner (2 & a half hours passed without entree orders being taken & we had to go to the bar to order drinks), water was not made readily available for our guests, & empty glasses were not removed from our table for the entirety of the event. The service was unsatisfactory & when brought to the attention of both the manager & server no solution was provided. Rather than providing a solution, we were met with accusations of being "condescending" & "causing a scene" all the while simply asking for the service that was promised & paid for (with an auto gratuity that was most definitely not reflective of the service we received). We recommend booking elsewhere for your next event to avoid the disappointment & EMBARASSMENT we felt from dealing with the staff at Buckley's Tavern. read more

We have loved Buckleys for years, but no more after last night! We waited over an hour for our food (and they weren't that busy): several of us ordered Buckley burgers, cooked anywhere from rare to medium rare. They were all well done! One was so overcooked that it had to be sent back. The seared tuna salad was good. But the slow service was unacceptable. The fare here is a step or two above standard pub fare, suitable for the zip code. Tonight we got the calamari which I thought was tasty. My guest not so much. I ordered an old fashioned, and somehow I think some orange pulp found it's way into my drink. My guest had a martini that she loved. For dinner I ordered the shrimp and grits and chose a spicy margarita for my second drink. The drink was too spicy and I regretted it later. I loved the shrimp and grits but oddly the shrimp still had tails in this soupy mess. Eating the shrimp covered in sauce with a spoon and not getting it all over you was like a sobriety test. I am at odds her sisters. like the food is very 50/50. like the brussels were great, could have used a lil salt, nevertheless the perfect degree of crispy. but they're laid upon a ketchup/mayo sauce which just didn't pair well sprouts. like why would I want to dip these heavenly veggies in ketchup?? the fish and chips were over the moon delicious. so crispy, not too oily, and melted in your mouth like butter. and I'm not usually a vinegar person but their dipping sauce was quite tasty. wish I got that instead of the crab cake sandwich, which was not good at all. the crab was dry and a lot of filler. too much bread, which was toasted to a crisp. I had to eat it without the top part of the bun. and the sweet potato fries were soggy. We have been to Buckley's on numerous occasions and the food was always good....but yesterday was a different story. Our waiter Paul was completely "out to lunch". It took 15 minutes for our drink order to arrive and to get this guy to take our food order was challenging .we asked if ther were any "specials of the day". He told us he didn't know until they were printed out! I dont know what idiots were running the kitchen yesterday but the staff ALWAYS knows the specials before service. I think the chef was absent yesterday and they had the dishwashers and busboys cooking the food Which when it finally arrived was undercooked and tasteless. Our friend ordered the ahi tuna which looked like it was rolled in sesame and plated without touching the pan. My wife ordered the game burger which was still moving and they couldn't even garish it properly using the ends of a tomato and onion. I ordered the cubano which should be buttered and pressed. the roll was soft and gummy....and the mushroom soup that I ordered was not seasoned at all. we had to lasso Paul down to get our checks which were supposed to be seperate but of course they weren't. This guy had his head somewhere else (and I cleaned that up). My bill was $78 for two tastless sandwiches,a bowl of soup and 3 beers which by the way were $8.50 a pop.Consistency is KEY in the food business. I had called ahead explaining food allergies. They said no problem. We were a party of five for my birthday dinner. Food was ok, nothing special although they had a few unique items on menu. One person didn't receive his chicken until he asked much later. I ordered plain salmon. I assumed it would be grilled but didn't ask. I should have. It seemed like it was air fried and tasted quite dry. I didn't send back because my meal was the last to be served and I didn't want to hold up everyone. I felt overall it as quite pricey for what was served. I also got a salad with romaine and one side veggie. Total was about $28 for mine. Frankly, I can do better at home myself. Walking into Buckley's tavern I immediately am in awe of the classiness of this tavern. We were greeted as we entered and shown to our seats. Our waitress, Amanda, brought us water with lemon and genuine smile. We were unsure of the beer we wanted and Amanda was quick to return with multiple tasting glasses. Once we settled with our beverages we ordered our food. We ordered the French dip and chicken cheesesteak sandwich. We received our food very quickly and the tastes were nothing short of amazing. Amanda returned to our table to check on us. Brilliant service by Amanda! The food here is amazing! I came as part of a large group. Our table was ready when we arrived. The building is colonial and welcoming. Local farm art adorns the inside and the decor is traditional. The dining room was crowded and loud on a Wednesday night. Our server was ultra attentive and friendly. He took our drink order right away and kept us happy as the group trickled in. I hear the mushroom soup is a must try but I was trying to eat light so suck with a salad. I tried the Crab Cobb salad for $17.95 and a glass of Chardonnay. They also carry an assortment of craft beers which must of the group opted. The food came out quickly and everything looked great. My salad was wonderful. All the ingredients were fresh. There was lovely avocado on top and a healthy serving of fresh lump crab. Then egg, bacon and tomato atop bib lettuce. The salad was filling and delicious with the lemon herb dressing. Just perfect. Others at the table ordered the crab cakes and raves about them. The chicken pot pie looked great as well. The food and service were excellent. Parking is tight. You might have to wait for a space. I'll begin by saying that Buckley's gets four stars only because of all the years I have enjoyed going there to eat or drink. It is a staple in this area, greater Delaware and not just Centerville, but this visit was not up to par. Keep in mind that this place is mainly a tavern (read: bar) so their food is really just upscale bar food. No points against them, the food is really good. Even this trip, the food was great. However, we waited almost an hour to get our food. It was a busy Friday night and they might abs short staffed but still no excuse. We heard them tell multiple tables that the frier was backed up then that some stuff got burnt. Just not a great CX. We started with Crab, Artichoke and Spinach dip, that was really good, although we could have used more pita. We also got Onion Rings, which despite being super late, were delicious and cooked perfectly. My grandmother and my girlfriend both got Salads, that looked fine. the Crab Cake on my grandmothers salad was HUGE and pretty good (I tried it). I got The Atlantic Fluke Piccata. The fish was great but the portion was pretty small and the veggies and potatoes on the side were nothing to brag about. The waitress specifically recommended this dish but I would stick with Chicken or Steak when I go back. You should definitely give this place a try when you are in the area. The bar is really cool. I don't drink anymore but I spent many late nights in the bar room and the ambience in there is top notch. read more

We had a wonderful lunch on Monday, Nov 25th with friends at Buckley's. I don't usually leave reviews but I just have to compliment chef Alrick's Salmon cakes with soba noodles, julienne vegetables, and house teriyaki. I haven't enjoyed a meal this much in a long time. Next time we come if Chef Alrick is there I would love to praise him/her in person. And if he/she is willing to share the recipe I promise not to tell a soul! read more

I gave this 4 stars but I really want it to be a 3.5! The atmosphere is lively and the outdoor patio is quaint. They have it closed in so it's actually nice during the winter too. The drinks are very good, there's a large wine list and beer menu! The food was underwhelming. We got three appetizers that were all average and then a few meals. The curried chicken salad was good! Not anything special. The French onion soup was also good, but not great. This place would have received a higher rating from me if it weren't so expensive. There was three of us, we each got one glass of wine and the bill for our lunch was $110.00. Now, if the food was amazing - that price would be fine - but for very average bar food, not worth it. The hostess who usually is pretty friendly but was just rude barely acknowledged when walking in and said there are no seats available unless you find a bar spot (the bar was half empty and plenty plenty of tables). Get to the bar and there were some friendly patrons about to leave and gave us a spot. Bar staff in 10 minutes never said hello. Finally sit and took another 5 minutes for a drink order to be taken and bar was not busy at all. Then another 10 minutes before asking if we wanted food. During this time the staff was doing a LOT MORE talking with each other/ gossiping whatever than serving customers.
