This is a fun little old-school place that serves home-cooked Style Hungarian with German influences dishes. I had beef stroganoff with spaetzle and vegetables. The beef was cooked so that it was very tender, sauce was very flavorful as well spaetzle was average. And vegetables were classic Eastern European overcooked from sitting in the chafing-dish for too long they were still good. You got a root for a little place like this and hopefully they have enough business to stay open as it has a lot of charm. This really does taste like homemade. They offer German fare too, like wienerschnitzel and spätzl, but oh man, their stroganoff, goulash, cucumber salad, chicken Paprikash, and sweet red kraut are so good. They keep a cold deli case filled with fresh-made pastries and desserts as well as specialty wines and beers from Poland, Deutschland, and Austria. This is a wonderful European Hungarian & German Restaurant. we have spent some fun times here with my friends last week Saturday. Very nice little place, friendly servers and the food is amazing. Elisabeth the owner operator cooks home made everything from scratch. we had a great time here eating and drinking. They have good german beers and wines. Conclusion: Not worth the $14.99 a plate for food that is served cafeteria style out of warming tubs inside a glass case. Maybe the price has increased but we were shocked at our $62 tab for a party of 3. I was wondering why the menu board didn't list any prices. You get soup or salad, an entree, and a starch side. The 4 entrees tonight were Stroganoff, Hunter's Chicken, some type of sausage/rice with tomato sauce, & fried sausages - mainly stew/casserole type items that will "maintain" inside the metal tubs. The food was flavorful and hearty; the kind that sits in your stomach for a long time. Service was attentive although the phrase "made from scratch" was used repeatedly by our waitress. After dinner, you need to tell the owner each item you ordered so she can ring it up. Let's just say we're glad we finally tried it - one time. read more

Great little place in Mukilteo that I've been to about 4 times over the last year. All the main dishes I've had have been delicious and the spaetzle is fabulous. The service has been attentive and the owner is fun to chat with when you catch her in a good mood. The biggest disappointment has been the desserts. Maybe I go at the wrong time of the day but everything I've had has tasted like it's been sitting in the deli case for a week or more.. dry, dense, and that refrigerator taste. The last time I went I decided to say something so when the waitress asked me how my tiramisu was I told her it tasted old and dried out. She passed along that information to the owner and the owner definitely gave me the stink eye for the rest of the time I was there. Went to eat here with my cousins, (as we do annually) disappointed with the overall layout of the place. No prices on menu, food was for the most part adequate. I had the jäger schnitzel and the pork was over salted and a bit over cooked. When we were done we found out that a little plate like 2 inches in diameter of the coleslaw and some schnitzel with spätzle is $24. I do not remember paying that the previous year I went. I stopped in to take a look inside Budapest Bistro and thought what the heck, i'll sit down for lunch! everything is made from scratch and very flavorful. I had the beef goulash, lecho, spaetzle, and parsley potatoes. I also had dessert but don't remember the name. Their green apple lemonade has a nice sour twang with a little bitterness (maybe from the lemon rind?) but i didn't mind it. The waitress was very nice and knowledgeable of the food. The food was tasty and homemade, although kept in steamers, so it's not freshly prepared. The atmosphere is like sitting in your grandma's kitchen. Now, as far as the payment....I used an amazon coupon $10 for $20 worth of food, and although it states on the coupon that you can't order to-go items, the waitress said it was fine and they do it all the time. The owner freaked out and reprimanded the waitress in front of me. I was really uncomfortable and felt bad for her. I probably won't go back due to the owner's outburst. read more
