    Big Buddha Burger and fries

Super fresh and delicious burgers happen here... I have had a few experiences here and I have never been disappointed... I highly recommend!!

It's a Friday night and my buddy and I decided it was time for a little adventure. He saw a video on social media talking about Buddha Burger having some of the best smash burgers in the Austin area, so we made the trek to the Valero gas station in Pflugerville that houses the burger joint to give it a shot. As we walked in, we were surprised to see a pretty long line. Mere seconds later, the entire line dissipated because it was all delivery drivers. The amount of DoorDash and Uber Eats orders coming out of Buddha Burger is insane, and for a burger joint, they seemed pretty on top of getting orders out in a timely manner. My buddy placed his order first, getting the California Classic and their Chocolate Toffee Cookie. I ordered the Big Buddha with their poutine purely out of curiosity. In about 10 minutes, both of our orders were ready. Inside the gas station, there is one large kitchen island style table where everyone can sit. The Big Buddha was good. It didn't wow me by any means, but it was solid. I think the hype around it being the best smash burger in the area led to some disappointment because it was fine. It didn't make me melt or blow my taste buds away. The California Classic my buddy ordered was also good, but nothing extreme. As for the poutine, I do not see myself ordering it again. Ever. The cheese curds were not as melty as I would hope, even with hot gravy poured on top, and by the time we got to it, the fries were completely soggy and lacked any crispness. I know poutine is inherently soggy, but this just did nothing for me. Maybe I'm not a poutine guy and that could be on me, but I'm just being honest. Neither of us cared for it. We split the cookie, which was huge but toothpick thin. We both thought it was okay, but a little too sweet. Not worth ordering again. We decided to dine in because I think food is best eaten immediately after it's ready. While waiting, we watched the kitchen operate and it honestly felt like a new hire was being berated at every given moment. The staff seemed to be working like they were under Carmy from The Bear. As someone just sitting and waiting for food, it felt awkward to witness and made me a little uncomfortable. I know most of their business comes from delivery apps so this probably isn't seen often, but for a place called Buddha Burger, there was no awakened state from the staff. There was no peace and no compassion. It felt weirdly hard-ass while we were there. I hate feeling lied to by a social media video. I've become weary of most especially if they get special treatment and don't talk about the plus and minuses. Everything is a lie these days. At least they didn't put generative AI in the burgers. I'll drive for good food, but the 20 minute trip didn't make this feel totally worth it. The burgers are good, but nothing exceptional, especially at the price point. If I lived closer, I'd probably return, but I don't have a strong urge to come back. Still, it's worth a shot. RIYL: Smash burgers in ten minutes or less.

Hamburger, Cajun Fries, Onion Rings - their burger was good!

My first review was over two years ago, so I figured it was time for an update. To be honest, we've picked up burgers from this place countless times because it's so convenient--their online ordering for pickup is super fast. The first time we tried their onion rings, they were just okay, but either that was a one-time miss or they've seriously improved since then. We gave them another shot and they were crispy perfection--extra crunchy on the outside with perfectly cooked onions inside. We love their smashed-style patties (chunky ground beef with a great balance of meat and fat). My all-time favorite is still the Holy Smokes--a double cheeseburger with deep-fried jalapeños--while my husband usually goes for the double hamburger. We also tried the crispy chicken Buddha, which was surprisingly good with a crispy exterior and tender, juicy meat. The only downside is that the food does lean a bit on the salty side, including both the burgers and the onion rings. Overall, Buddha Burger delivers every time we're craving simple, good burgers and onion rings.

Stumbled upon this place when I was in the area. I know a gas station may turn you away from trying this place but it's definitely great for grab and go. The single patty cheeseburger is a bit steep at $8 plus $1 per any added topping. I had to opt for the fried jalapeños which was the star of the show for me. It added such a good crunch and spice. The Cajun fries were fries to perfection and had a great flavor. It's not the cheapest place if you're looking for a burger and fries but if you're willing to splurge this is a good option!

A burger shop inside a gas station. It is slightly unique as it shares a space with it. When you go in, there are 2 counters; one is for the gas station and one is for the burgers. You place your order, and there are 2 tables inside near the front and a large shared eating area near the ordering counter and 2 tables outside. You order your food at the counter and milkshakes, but if you want a soda or something else, it would be done on the gas station side. The employee did check up on me once and gave me extra napkins, which was nice for being inside a gas station. I got the Cali Classic, which had a nice crispy texture on the outside as it was crisp on the outside of the bun. The sauce inside the burger was heavy on the mustard, something to note if you don't like it. Also, I ordered a side of Cajun fries, which were okay. They weren't as crispy as I would like them to be. The Poutine was a bit on the salty side, but it had a lot of cheese curds.

Buddha Burger is such a hidden gem. While you might be fooled by the exterior because it's located inside a gas station, it's a really nice place. The burgers are very fresh, I got the mushroom melt (a copy of the shroom burger from shake. Shack) and the monk vegan burger. Both were delicious and the Cajun fries are also very nice. The service is friendly. They offered us spicy sauce which I highly recommend. They don't have a lot of seating inside but the counter inside was empty when we went and they have a few table outside. Total was around 26 for a couple of burgers and an order of fries. Overall fairly resasonable.

This is exactly a burger joint on a gas station. You can buy scratch-offs and cigars five feet from the counter. Except that the burger is amazing. I ordered the Big Buddha. The patties were hand formed and thick, crusty and juicy as described in other reviews. The nirvana sauce carries a hint of curry. I didn't notice it at first but it was a delightful surprise.

Buddha Burger, I was rooting for you! I came in with high hopes (thanks, Yelp!) and a serious burger craving. I ordered a cheeseburger with all the fixin's--lettuce, tomato, pickles, and onions--and a side of onion rings, thinking I was about to hit burger bliss. But for $10, I was expecting something closer to a Whataburger experience, size-wise. Instead, I got a tasty but pretty thin patty. Guess you have to go double meat to get that "big bite" satisfaction. The onion rings were nice and crispy, but nothing extraordinary. I could've used a few more in the basket for the price, but they were seasoned well, so I'll give 'em that. One thing I did love? The place was super clean, and I like that I could pick up some snacks, fill up my gas tank, and even grab a lotto ticket before I left. The staff was very busy but greeted you as you walked in. Buddha Burger is definitely convenient! I'll be back to give the mushroom melt and the chicken sandwich a try--fingers crossed they're worth the encore visit!

Sometimes I'm skeptical on gas station restaurants, but this one was way better than I expected. It was super clean inside and my worry was that it was going to be a weird smell with the mixture of two, but there wasn't. The burger was by far my favorite. I would definitely go back for another. But everything was really good either way. The staff checked up on us several times to make sure everything was good and even made us recommendations for the cookies which were bomb as well. Definitely worth a try, go check it out.

Chicken sandwich is cooked good, batter is a bit salty. Idk what sauce they include in the sandwich but I would suggest it on the side.

John passed away in early 2024, while his family took over the shop in Pflugerville. Now just about a decade after opening shop, Brotherton's is closing down at the end of August. Following John's passing, they've hit a few road bumps from the rising cost of beef that's been plaguing Texas BBQ. Earlier in January they posted on social media how they were struggling, and again last spring. At the start of August, the Brotherton's family announced Brotherton's Black Iron BBQ in Pflugerville was shuttering for good at the end of August. Knowing this would be the last time I would be able to try it, my buddy and I took an extended lunch break on a Friday to give it a shot. Upon arrival at just around 11:50, we noticed that the parking lot was packed with multiple food trucks and other businesses filling the shopping center. We got lucky with a parking spot far away as we marched inside to wait in line. On the door lay plenty of stickers from different BBQ joints from Texas and beyond, with even some coming from overseas. The line moved slowly but surely, and as we got to the front we got our three-meat plate with a bonus slice of turkey for good measure. We ended up getting to Brotherton's at the perfect time because we got the final slices of brisket on that glorious Friday. I'll share my thoughts on everything we tried: Brisket: Though it looked like a great cut that was nicely seasoned, it was pretty fine overall. Nothing remarkable about their brisket while still very fatty. Jalapeño Cheddar Sausage: Juicy, cheesy, not really too spicy on the jalapeño side of things, but that might just be from the mildness of jalapeños these days. Pork Ribs: These suckers looked incredible from the pictures I saw online and on social media, but they were kinda disappointing based on how incredible they looked visually. They were good, just not as epic as I was hoping. Turkey: Turkey is underrated in the BBQ scene, and this is no exception. A nice cut of meat! Cornbread Casserole: I could've eaten the whole thing myself, so it was a shame that we were sharing. Green Chili Mac and Cheese: I'll repeat myself. I could've eaten the whole thing myself, so it was a shame that we were sharing. As a whole, I'm very glad I gave them a shot before I would never be able to again. That's the hardest part about Texas barbecue. The best places and the historic spots can drop in a moment's notice when hardships hit or the meat prices skyrocket. Sadly, I can tell that they're already at the end of their rope with certain menu options like the loaded nachos and baked potatoes, which always seem like the sign of the end. And with how the food was simply just decent overall, it's hard to justify the rising prices. I see reviews all over saying their quality has fallen off year after year following JMFB's passing, and it makes sense: he was the heart and the soul of the business. When that vaporizes overnight, it's only a matter of time. I don't wish for the downfall of any spot, but I understand that it's bound to happen to certain ones. RIYL: Paying respects to one of the greats in Texas BBQ

When we found out, we rushed over for a Father's day meal. The atmosphere was pretty cool, interesting pictures on the walls, someone put a lot of effort, time and thought into the decorating of this establishment. All men running the joint, we told the guy who took our order(who was very nice), it was our first time here. They have been in business for 16 years(not at this location)! So lets get down to the food. My Husband ordered the two dog combo, one a Chicago dog, another a sauerkraut dog, it came with fries. He sad the dogs were amazing, they hit all the marks. The fries were ok, a little room temp(but to be fare we came there 30 minutes before closing). The soda's were really great, not two sirupy, not too carbonated, we enjoyed them. I ordered a pizza with Italian sausage added. They gave us our drinks for free, which was awesome. I didn't know what to expect with the pizza, but I was blown away by it. They should be very proud of the recipe they created. Most places over season/spice their sauces. The flavor of the tomato gets drowned out. This was absolutely not the case the sauce did not sow out the crust whatsoever it held its crisp the whole time. The sausage was wonderful. The cheese was everything you wanted on a pizza. I can say it's the best than crust pizza I think I've ever had. My husband tried it and we fought over who was going to be eating it for lunch tomorrow. It was huge. I wasn't expecting it to be that big. I will be dreaming about that pizza, and craving it. This is my go to place to get good pizza. It blows Nikki's out of the water. If you are craving some good then crust, pizza, or hotdog I suggest you go there. They also have chili fries, cheesesteaks, so much. They have one of those menus, where everything looks good, and it's hard to decide. Just try it. Warning, this pizza is 14 in(seemed bigger), and it being thin crust, and tasting so good, you might find yourself eating the whole thing. Wish we had pics to post, but we did not think of doing it, will do next time(which will probably be later this week, it was that good).

They offer two sizes, and we ordered the smaller regular Americana Cheesesteak, the Cartel, a shared order of fries, and two fountain drinks. Our total came to about $35, which felt like a good value for the amount of food. Service was friendly and they served our food to the table very fast. The fries were your typical frozen fries and came unseasoned, but that wasn't a big deal. We added our own seasoning. One thing to note is that they only serve Pepsi products. That's a big bummer for me because I'm a Dr Pepper girl, but it isn't a complete dealbreaker because they also offer tea. Now let's talk about my sandwich. It was loaded with so much meat that I couldn't even fit it in my mouth! I ended up taking some of the meat out and adding it to the fries, which turned out yummy. The steak was well seasoned, and the lettuce, tomato, and mayo ratio tasted perfect. If you're looking for a hearty cheesesteak that will definitely fill you up, Wise Guys is worth checking out. I deliberately mentioned the short glass to the waitress, in spite of the fact that a typical double whiskey and Coke drink comes in a short glass. I asked our waitress to give me a short glass and she tried to do so. When she came back she said the manager wouldn't let her, which was weird, so I asked to see the manager. Josh. Josh did not handle the interaction well in my opinion. In his opinion it was the same alcohol in a short or tall, so he thought I should just drink the tall. That's obviously not a great experience.
