All I have to say is Bravo!! Dave aka Buddha was wonderful!! I needed to get my air conditioner fixed and I had been quoted outrageous prices. So I did a bit of research and low in behold I came across Buddhas Garage. I thought to myself...Buddha can't do me wrong, so I called. From the moment I talked to him on the phone I trusted him. He gave me an extremely reasonable quote and said to bring my car right in. The garage is a bit hard to find because it is new and located in a business park. I dropped the car off and he asked me if I needed a ride home...At first I was a bit nervous because he is a powerfully built gentleman with a shaved head and tattoos and we got into a truck with black tinted windows...Goodbye world was my first thought then bam, he was one of the kindest people in Austin. This place is without a doubt the best auto repair shop I've been to. The owner is extremely knowledgeable and honest. I got a number of things done on my truck and I spent about half of what I was expecting. I feel like I can take my truck here without fears of being ripped off or overcharged. The owner has pride in his work and will do whatever is necessary to satisfy the customer. For example, in addition to the basic things I needed fixed I also needed a state inspection and an alignment, neither of which he has the equipment to do at the shop, but he said that since he had my truck for the day he would take it somewhere and get both things taken care of. Great service. Great price. Had my brakes done and the master cylinder for the clutch replaced in my 1999 Subaru Outback. Another shop tried to tell me it was just air in the lines, which of course did not fix it. This garage diagnosed the problem replaced the part and I never had another problem with it, and he fixed it all in a few hours. I've quickly become a fan of these guys after purchasing a 10 year old Saab 9-2X wagon (Subaru WRX with a Saab badge). I spent a bunch of money with a well known import tuning shop in town to have a bunch of maintenance items done at the same time as I was having my exhaust upgraded. Through this process I learned the hard way that real mechanic work should be left to real mechanics. I've had my car with the guys at Buddha's a few times to help resolve issues that arose due to minor mistakes made by the other shop, and they have been patient and awesome to work with. read more

I was sent to Dave and Buddha's Garage via a friend after another local shop told me I needed my 2003 Subaru Forrester's front and rear brakes replaced immediately (while I was there getting an oil change, they told me they were down to 10% in the front and down to the metal in the back). Dave was absolutely fantastic - he was able to fit me in the next day, and he showed me that my brakes were actually fine (with 50% remaining) and explained everything in plain English. I came to the garage based on the previous reviews. My check engine light came on over the weekend and I brought it in on Monday. The problem was quickly diagnosed and Dave explained the issue in great detail. I also asked if they could possibly fix an issue with my manifold. Instead of trying to fix it and charge more money, Dave recommended that I take it to an exhaust specialist and explained in detail what I should ask for in the repairs. Agree with Rebecca H., this place was awesome! I am new to Austin and called around to several places to request help replacing my oxygen sensors. Very few places even knew how to fix this (my car is an old POS) and would not pass TX inspection without the fix. They helped me install everything at an extremely fair price. A buddy of mine told me about Buddha's Garage and I've been putting off a lot a problems with my Jeep Cherokee and I finally brought it to them. They listened to what I had to say which doesn't happen often at shops, and they worked with my on costs. Got my check engine light fixed by changing a sensor and a hose then replaced my front brake hoses. Very reasonable price and great over all experience. Most shops you bring your car to will not listen and run expensive tests that are not needed. David and his crew fixed the problems I wanted and only ran the tests for them. After some bad experiences with mechanics back in NY, I was thrilled to find Buddha (David) when I moved to Austin a couple of years ago. Everything good that others have written about him and his garage are totally accurate from my experiences. Here are a few examples of how he runs his garage different from most others out there: 1) He has never tried to upsell or sell me on any unneccessary work. I've brought my car to him several times for apparent issues, only to be told there was nothing wrong and not to spend money on repairs. Once I had a check engine light for the passenger air bag, and after checking the codes and consulting with a VW expert, he cleared the code and told me I simply needed to keep my battery charged, saving me hundreds of dollars in repairs. 2) He doesn't charge a markup on parts (what he pays is what you pay), and he charges a flat, reasonable hourly labor fee. With the Go Local card, which they carry, you even get a labor discount. The details I guess are on his facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/buddhasgarage) I just know that he always seems to keep the cost much lower than I'd pay elsewhere. 3) Buddha recently helped us out by replacing the whole engine on my girlfriend's Honda CR-V. It was a long process with some frustrating delays, but these were mostly our fault and that of the engine shop who rebuilt the engine for us. And we were impressed with how Buddha led us through the process, as well as with the quality of his work, and the fact that he kept his price to his initial quote, even though it clearly cost him tons more labor time. As I said, several delays were our fault, including our decision to add a full air conditioner system overhaul on top of the original engine replacement job. And the place that rebuilt the engine for us ended up tearing it apart and then neglected to put it all back together after fixing the block. They gave it back to Buddha in boxes of parts, and a number of key parts were missing. Buddha and his wife Kayla did an amazing job of dealing with the other shop to get them to replace most of the lost parts for us. And I am completely amazed that he was able to put all the little parts of the engine back together for us, and her car is now running like brand new, when the other shop took it apart in such a disorganized fashion. Due to the labor and headache involved in doing an engine rebuild, I think we and Buddha all learned that it will be much better to just swap out a used engine if such a thing ever happened again. But we've concluded that he is the best and most honest mechanic in this town, and we won't be going anywhere else for our cars (and my motorcycle). read more

This place is great. The owner's are down to earth, kind and reasonable. They took my car in very last minute and let me drop it off in the evening and then got back with me the next morning. Dave (Buddha) explained the issue going on with my car and didn't charge me for looking at it. My car had/has a major repair in need but it's an old car that I have been ready to get rid of so I am not going to get it fixed, just going to get a new car soon. This place though it is great, good people and I highly recommend them. I will take my new car there if I have any maintenance needs or anything else for my car. They are great! read more
