The bartenders work non stop to get your drinks and food out quickly. My daughter loved the churro style donuts (but they are messy). The decor is a D&D dive bar scene....so many things to look at as you wait for bingo to start. They just changed the rules and you do have to pay $1.00 per person to play bingo...but where else can you get that type of entertainment for a dollar. We can't wait to return.

When I expressed concern about the extended absence and lack of service--something I would consider standard feedback in any hospitality setting--I was abruptly told I was "speaking badly" about the staff and was asked to leave. This kind of defensiveness and disregard for patrons is deeply unprofessional, especially for an establishment that positions itself within a community where communication, accountability, and mutual respect are paramount. Eugene has a growing nightlife and alternative culture scene, and many people--locals and visitors alike--expect spaces that uphold those values. Based on my experiences, I cannot recommend The Serpent & the Sparrow. There are other venues in town that offer a far more welcoming environment, competent service, and a genuine respect for their patrons.

I go to Buddy's Diner probably about 2 times a week. I always try to make it in at least once. I love their food!! I love the waitresses too! They are always super friendly and nice. They try to really get to know you. I will say that the day time waitresses are way more friendly than night shift. But maybe they have stuff going on, i dont know. I Absolutely love their Be- Bopper. It's an awesome juicy burger, super awesome! The french toast there is also very good & fluffy!! The waitresses always come back to ask if we need anything, and even if we are a bit rude, they still have a smile on their faces, and are never mean or vulgar. I rate this a five because, I love the great attitudesfrom the workers, I love seeing all the regulars come in, the food gets two because it's amazing! and the other because it's 50's! Who doesnt love a 50's diner! The owner will come in, make sure everything is going good, and will sit and talk to you. He won't stay and annoy you, just being a friendly man. I feel like the people above me are a group of people who might have went on a dinner night or something, because ever since the day i walked in, i knew i would be a regular. I was asked to meet a client here for a breakfast meeting and was disappointed by the lack of service. We seated ourselves, which was fine, and waited and waited and waited for someone to come by. When we did have someone to take our order it was rather unimpressive, no warm and fuzzy feelings there... food was good and substantial in servings size however, no refills of our soda, no check back to see that our food was OK, and my plate was swiped away by the waitress before I had even finished the fry in my hand! Everyone at our table was shocked. I guess they needed the table, no worries there - we won't be back and if Yelp filters this feedback that is OK because I will share my experience with anyone whom asks. I'm not out to avenge a poor eating experience - hopeful they will read this and improve their 'customer relations', unfortunately when I shared this with the restaurant at that time I was basically dismissed with a 'OK, on with your day lady' response. Tried a spot in Eugene called Buddy's today. Found out it used to be Chubby's before it was bought out, and you can still feel that old-school diner vibe the moment you walk in. I'll be honest... walking in was a little chaotic at first. Wasn't sure where to go or what to do. But once I figured out the flow, everything settled in. If you're solo, grab a seat at the bar and you're good. Menu had a little bit of everything. Not a ton of gluten-free options, which I always have to watch, but they came through with gluten-free toast and a solid diner omelet. What stood out most? The people. Friendly, welcoming, and on it. There was a line out the door, so that tells you everything you need to know. If you're in Eugene... Buddy's gets my recommendation. read more
