Absolute garbage service. First they tell me not to fill up the fuel, they tell me to fill up the diesel only. I asked 3 times to verify. They assured me of what they wanted. I then return the truck and they say, you didn't fill up the fuel, we'll have to charge you extra. Then the tell me they can't close out my account until it is filled. I said fine I'll wait. 20minutes later i ask how long this is going to take. I then get the response oh i can't do it right now.... I'm waiting here 20 minutes and you tell me this now. I inquire as to how much this is not going to cost me and he informed me there is a $30 refueling fee on top of the gas. However it is clearly posted in the office that it's 9.99 refueling fee. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE! Choose a different location! Charles O'Neal, has questionable ethics and will add in additional fees for services even if you decline!! I have rented from Avis multiple times in the past, I made a reservation for a car through the AVIS app. This is how I always make a reservation. When I arrived at the dealer the owner placed me into a Toyota. I signed my documentation that stated I was NOT accepting any supplemental insurance. We NEVER get additional insurance because rentals are covered through our auto insurance. When I drove away in the vehicle? A warning light on the vehicle stated "Maintenance Service Required!" I took the vehicle back to the dealer. The gentlemen (Charles O'Neal) that had checked the vehicle out to me said he could give me another vehicle. I asked about an upgrade and he agreed to give me an upgrade at a discounted rate. I was appreciative and decided to proceed. However, when I went to sign/initial the documentation he made mistakes three different times and I had to sign/initial the same form three different times. At some point during this process LDW and ALI insurance were added to my documentation. I noticed the amount and additional fees when I dropped of the vehicle. As a preferred member I am trusting that Avis and the franchised dealers are going to be honest. This was a tactic to deceive a consumer. His bait a switching of the "mistaken" documents allowed him to slip these additional fees in because it benefits him as a franchise owner. I have made a complaint with the BBB and am in communication with AVIS to rectify this situation and have this location investigated. read more

I had a wonderful experience on the pick up in San Diego, team was fantastic, on the other hand the drop off team was more than unacceptable. The email I had confirming my reservation clearly showed 10:30 drop off up with small window if late, (I was there at 10:20) the counter woman, named Laura, was extremely rude and unpleasant, telling me I need a to have a mask, but LA county was lifted last week, OK, I'll go find one. Come back, she's helping another customer, very pleasantly with smiles and courteousness. As she was now leaving with the new customer to show them their car, I was getting a little impatient, she rudely said, when she'd done, wait. I waited, the truck was immaculate and fully fueled, she then says I owe an additional $217 in late fees???? on top of the $358 for 2 days, WTF. My mother just passed away, this van had just hauled all her belongings to my house. This has been an exhausting trip. I told her a little compassion and courtesy would go a long way.. she told me she IS CHARGING ME ANYWAY, get out of her store, and continued to not help me as I was noticeably upset at this point. I reserved a truck from here for a move last weekend. The day before I called the main number to confirm which the online system tells you to do. When I arrived for my truck the next day, there was a small white sign in the window that read "this office is on vacation Sat and Sun" So unprofessional. I had friends all waiting for me to show up in a truck. I wasted alot of time that day trying to get a new truck. $500 deposit for debit cards. $200 for credit cards (if your card says debit anywhere on it, it's not a credit card) Working in the hotel business, I knew a bit about deposit holds. I unfortunately did not expect a $500 deposit for a 2 day rental at about $25 a day. I mean, you already take the social security number, but you want to ask for a deposit 10x the amount of the rental fee? People go to Budget for their rates per day because, you know, we're on a 'budget'. I was only expecting a $200-$300 deposit, which if you have a valid credit card it's only $200, but credit cards are scary. I've stopped using them because I'm an impulsive shopper admittedly. Other than not having $500 during my vacation, the staff was friendly and the Hyundai Elantra we rented was in perfect working order. They also pick you up anywhere in Glendale if you have a booking. =D Would use again if needed. read more

Rented a car here for the first time - I searched priceline.com for the best deals in the Burbank/Glendale area, and this Budget came up with $24.99 per day for a subcompact car. We were upgraded for free and ended up with a nice Jetta, but it wasn't because the rental guy was nice or liked us or anything. I think it was more because it offers a limited selection of cars and trucks, and they had run out of smaller cars. I would give 4 or 5 stars just for the car itself - it was really nice and clean, just what you'd expect. But I'd give it a 1 or 2 for the service. There is no "service with a smile" at this place. I don't know if the guy who "helped" us was just having a bad day or was cursed with a bad bedside manner or what, but he was obviously hating life and taking it out on anyone who happened to cross his path. Whoever answered the phone when I called later wasn't any more friendly. Also, when we first got the car, the bad bedside manner guy just gave us the keys and sent us off. He didn't come with us to the car to do a walk-around, tell us about any of their policies (like most rental car places do), or anything like that. Just gave us the keys and basically told us to go the hell away. Which was fine by us. Unlike the airport rental car places, this place closes pretty early - 6 pm on weekdays. So if you don't care about friendly service, and if this place just happens to offer a good deal, then go for it. read more

I do NOT recommend this car rental location. First, the guy working there was nice that is why they get 1 star. Here is my experience. First car smelled like weed. Went back to rental desk and he gave me a different car. He first wiped it down with towels no car wash and car was 3/4 full. I left the parking garage and the hazard light was on. Drove back and the guy tells me it's ok it's the mirror. I am now very late. I get a phone call from the guy all the keys to all the cars were left in my rental car had to drive back 20 minutes. He told me I could keep the car later on Saturday. I figured out they withheld 217.00 on my credit card for a (33.00) two day rental. When I bring the car back at 3 they are closed. I left the keys and talked with customer service to find out the initial agreement was charged incorrectly and they extended my contract without my permission till Nov 8 and charged me more money. I couldn't make this stuff up. I have been calling all morning and can't get through. So I was charged incorrectly. Never told about a 217.00 hold or that it takes 11 days to get it back. Dont rent a truck from budget. The truck that was booked on line will not be available. We booked a 16'ft truck on line to be picked up at glendale brand location and it wasn't available. They wanted us to take the 26'f truck which was insane . They weren't going to charge us extra but that wasn't the point. It was huge. We had to call corporate and get our 16' f truck transferred from bakers field and we had to wait a whole day to pick our truck. This is a late input, I was there a couple weeks ago. I've always rented from Budget in Monterey, Illinois, Virginia, wherever I go. This was my first experience with this Glendale location...very dissatisfied. I reserved a car online. Since I don't use a major credit card anymore I only had my debit card. The clerk said they had to run a credit check if I didn't have a major credit card...this was a first for me. I don't have the best credit score, but I'm renting a car, not buying a house. I quite shocked when I was actually denied. I just rented from the Monterey Budget a month prior and didn't have this issue. I explained this to the clerk and all he did was give me Experien's # to call and the Budget Customer Service Number. I called the customer service number, explained the situation and the representative said he could transfer me to another line for approval. What I got transferred to was an automated questionaire that asked if I had a home telephone line and when I said "No" it just said that it was sorry but I could not be approved at this time and hung up on me. There was basically nothing I could do to rent a car without a major credit card. I would only give two stars, but I'm sure if my credit was fine I wouldn't have ever experienced this. I'm curious to know how credit effects the chances that a car won't be returned in good condition. - Knocking off a star not being upfront when I reserved the car...since I was expecting to pick it up at that time, being denied put me in a tight last minute predicament. - And another star for having this ridiculous policy and not allowing people to talk to a real person instead of the automated thing I dealt with. I went to a nearby rental company and got a car for the same rate without the hassle. I probably won't return to any Budget after that experience. If you have less than stellar credit and no major credit card, just be prepared to possibly be turned down. ** How I rate: Every place starts off with "5 stars". This is the most unprofessional rental service outfit that my wife and I have encountered. We reserved a truck two weeks in advance for our trip from Los Angeles to Houston. Three days before we were supposed to pick up the truck rental, my wife rented a car from this place and verified with them the availability of the truck on September 1, 2014 at 12 noon. They said the truck will be available. On August 30, I personally went to this outfit to ask if I could pick up the truck earlier than 12 noon but the person at the counter said he can only guarantee that the truck will be available at 12 noon September 1. On the date and time that my wife and I were supposed to pick up the truck (12 noon September 1, 2014), there was no truck with the carrying the capacity we reserved available for us. The person at the counter and the office manager that I talked with over the phone said that it was not their fault that corporate did not deliver the truck. What? Corporate and this budget rental outfit do not know simple arithmetic!!! They should know how many trucks were committed to be rented for each day. They should know how many trucks can be rented out to walk-in customers each day. They should know which truck is supposed to be committed to a reservation already. At the very least, they should have informed my wife and me first thing in the morning if a truck was not available for us. Not even an iota of word of honor and apology came from the office manager of this outfit. To add insult to injury, someone in this office activated the system indicating that I cancelled my reservation (Who else would? Blame corporate again?) and thus I was charged $50.00. If there was a rating score of negative I would have given this outfit a negative five rating. Do not be deceived by the management of this company. They will bait you with a rate lower than U Haul but do not bite that bait because U Haul will match whatever rate this outfit will bait you with. read more

I'm reviewing this Budget even less now! I complained about the completely hostile people working at the front desk. They act so annoyed that you dare patronize their business. A woman from headquarters emailed me back and said she would send me a coupon. She wasn't all that apologetic, but I did appreciate a response and I probably would have used the coupon, even though I would have to put up with the bullies who work there. The coupon never even came! This company doesn't care whether you are happy or not, and I don't really think they even care whether or not you come back to them. Stay away! RENTERS BEWARE: If you drive their rental for less than 75 miles and fill up the tank before returning, save your receipt or expect a hard time at the counter. I filled up the tank two blocks away, 5 minutes before returning the car, but according to the rep here, the needle was barely at the full mark. Blame the needle lady, don't accuse your customer of dishonesty! Why should I have to save the gas receipt if I return the car with a full tank? I would have given Budget 4 stars because the wait was shorter than 30 minutes for my reservation, the car was decent and the whole process was effortless. However, I brought my personal car here and had to park it before renting my car and the Budgets' staff informed me that the parking lot next door would be $10 for overnight parking. However, it was $45 in reality and they did not remedy the situation at all- instead they shrugged and said "hmph, strange, wonder why that happened." Won't be renting from them again because I spent more money than I would have if I had rented from Hertz Prestige due to the parking cost. read more

Was a little hesitant coming here after reading a couple of reviews but I decided to give it a shot. I reserved my car online and went to pick it up the next day and Charity was gladly helping me and she made me feel very welcomed. They had just opened so they were preparing their day and I had noticed there weren't many cars on the lot. So I had reserved a regular economy car and there weren't any on the lot. Thanks to Charity I got a free upgrade without any hesitation. The process was very quick and easy and I was out there within a couple of minutes. My experience at this Location was beyond great! Coming from Hertz i was used to a long wait, not so friendly people and cars that were not clean. When i first walked in, Bryan immediately acknowledged me with a friendly "Good Morning". Also he asked for my Name and asked how i was doing! i told them that i had to be in and out as quick as possible. it literally took 10 min to get my paperwork done. Not only that, but all the cars in the front were already clean and ready to go. Looks that Team Glendale is prepared for business and ready to give great service. You know the difference between companies that want to steal from you and the good ones that want to do business with you and have you back. Budget is the one that will try to charge you for things that you didn't ask for. In my case: I wanted liability insurance only and they charged me 20 bucks for "suplemental liability," which I never requested. When I objected, they said that the contract was closed and there was nothing they could do about it. They suggested I call the company. I recently rented a car and I won't mention the whole story as I'm ready for bed a very tired but the best part about renting from this location was the man who helped me when I picked up the rental car. I believe his name is Santos. I walked in with a bit of a time crunch and he was efficient, courteous and extremely helpful. I asked him some questions and he was so polite and eager to help. He made my first experience with Budget a great one and because of that I will come back to do business again. My only complaint is there was no wiper fluid in the car so when I went to clean the windshield, alas I was just able to smear the bug guts I accumulated more into the windshield. Rented a car here for a few dollars less then other places. Customer service is pretty lousy. I have rented many cars and never have I witnessed what I saw while returning my car. I guy brings back a car and the budget guy goes out to "inspect" the car. Comes back and tells him there are issues with the car. He told the customer there was a small scratch on bottom of front bumper. Customer had no clue. The scratch was smaller then a pencil eraser. Most places let small wear and tear scratches like that go, not here! Beware! They will check the returned car with a magnifying glass. The fuel tank has to be past the full mark or they charge you for that too. I will pay the extra 8-10$ and go elsewhere. read more

Reserved a car for a family trip on 12/26. When I got there in the morning, at the time stated on the reservation, I was informed there were no cars. If this wasn't annoying enough, the guy behind the counter was completely unapologetic. He said things like "yeah, if you want a car you really have to be here at opening time". I showed him my reservation which had a pickup time of 10am. His response was "yeah, you'll have to wait for a car. And there are three or four parties ahead of you in line". He wouldn't give me a time estimate, saying it "could be half an hour, could be an hour, could be longer". At this point I was pretty annoyed and said something snarky like "I don't know what the point is of making a reservation if you guys aren't going to hold the reservation." He went "yeah, I don't know" - and turned away, basically dismissing me, and started shuffling papers. I had to get his attention again before asking if he would take my number down to give me a call when a car became available. Of course, I never received a call from them. Fortunately when I called the budget customer service line, the agent at the call center was much more helpful and actually booked me a car at the avis nearby. I know this review is long over due, I went to California to visit family in July, and was handicap without a car. However, I did book a rental through Budget. The one I went to was (617 SOUTH BRAND BOULEVARD GLENDALE, CA 91204). I believe my disappointment came from my reservation being mixed up with another persons. I booked a Dodge Avenger, or a similar mid size car, however they gave me an Elantra which was a very tiny compact car. They would not give me a mid size car claiming all others have been "booked", forgetting that I as well booked a mid size car. Another thing this company did was mistook my reservation time. My pick up was immediately following my flight at 2 pm, they had me at 6 pm (which may have been why my car was not on the lot). The front desk began to argue with me and laugh at me as if I was the idiot who did not know my reservations. Joke was quietly on them because I had a print out of all my information stating what car I was to be picking up and the time of pick up. After having to stressfully voice my opinion, these people gave me a discount for my troubles. I will never book a rental car with any Budget location. It's a shame one place can set a negative effect on the company as a whole. The Elantra over all was a difficult car to drive, had minimal space for family and suitcases.
