We were on our way to check out a shop on Broadway and since Budgie's Burritos was nearby, I finally got to use my plant based deals coupon for it. My daughter and I both ordered burrito bowls and took them to go. It looks like a cute place and they have seating downstairs as well. Hope that we can eat in the shop itself next time. My daughter got The Mr. Jones burrito bowl and I got the Jamedog. The Mr. Jones was a pretty basic combination of ingredients. It had rice, beans, vegan cheese , sour cream, salsa, and green cabbage. Jamedog was similar but slightly more complex as it came with a chipotle sour cream, as well as garlic and lime roasted potatoes. Wow, those potatoes were so good! If I find myself at Budgie's Burritos again I will definitely order the Jamedog again just so I can eat those wonderful garlic and lime roasted potatoes again. Service: Good Parking: Mostly paid parking but there is some limited free parking on the street Location: 44 Kingsway, Vancouver, BC

This is a popular Mount Pleasant vegetarian burrito/taco restaurant, and a good alternative to the big brand name burrito joints for plant-inclined eaters. The staff are very cool as is the vibe. I've tried a few things here: the Johnny O, Blair Stanley, Jo June, and Poser in either burrito or bowl form, and also the vegan chocolate chip cookie they offer. The Poser so far is the clear winner - the ground round was nicely seasoned. Jo June was alright but blander than expected given that it's made with stewed poblano peppers. I did really like the Johnny O, but the chipotle sour cream is what ties it together, so I'm not sure if the vegan version would hit the same. In general, the burritos/bowls lean toward the "stuff thrown in a bowl together" vibe rather than a cohesive dish to me. It's okay but not something I'd crave. Similarly, the cookie was fine but didn't wow me. I probably wouldn't get it again, but I just don't care for chocolate chip that much unless it's got something special about it. All that being said, I am willing to go back and keep exploring the menu to see if I find something that really speaks to me.

I wanted to give them a 3.5 but I'll stick to 3. This is a vegetarian Mexican restaurant in Vancouver and they have a variety of packages. I really liked Gauc with chips. The Burritos were okay in my opinion. We tried Jo June and Jamedog Burritos on two separate occasions. While Jamedog was very delicious, thanks to garlic roasted and lime potatoes in it, Jo June wasn't. I felt Jo June didn't justify the key ingredients it had in it. It was very bland and the salsa on the side didn't help it at all. After spending a lot of time in Texas and California and and being close to Mexican cuisine, my expectations were slightly higher. Parking was on the street. Didn't pay for it.

I'm a carnivore but the lineups each time I passed by got me curious. After finishing my work at Gene Coffee next door, I walked by it and studied the menu. With no lineup at all, I decided to give it a try. I told them I like meat and she recommended Poser to me. Then I added their bestseller Johnny O. Yes, the option questions caught me off guard but she was patient. I basically ended up doing half and half for the beans and lettuce/cabbage. Then I had to choose the spicy level for the salsa. I went for medium but I have to say I didn't feel any heat. I'll have to try hot (Chipotle) next time. After I paid, I turned around and holy guacamole! Suddenly there are 10 people lining up behind me! The wait was fine as I watched them with much anxiety preparing my burritos. She called out my name and handed me the bag with a smile. Lovely. The food? Fantastic. The shell is soft and the Poser was warm. Johnny was room temp as it doesn't have any "meat". I think I prefer a warm one next time. The purple cabbage makes it a harder bite too.

A good option for late night snack, lunch, or take out! The prices are affordable and dishes can be vegan Just order at the counter and the staff will bring the food. There isn't a lot of seating, but the orders are made quite quickly The menu is pretty straight forward with choice of cabbage or lettuce, white or whole wheat tortilla, the spice level of salsa and with refried pinto and or black bean My favorite was the KTB with refried pinto beans, I did not miss the meat at all!

My barber is in the 'hood so I finally dropped into Budgies Burritos. They specialize in vegetarian burritos. You'll find them right beside Gene Coffee Bar. We dropped in on a Thursday for lunch (around 12:30pm) and it was busy. While we were there, they went through 30 orders! There's half a dozen seats to people watch but more seating downstairs along with a couple benches outside. The menu consists of burritos, nachos, tacos, tortilla soup and drinks. There's three sauces by the soda fountain station; red (very very hot), green (pretty hot) and chili paste (medium at best). - Blair Stanley ($9.00 for 12") - tofu in a roasted chipotle & red pepper sauce, rice, beans, cheese, salsa, lettuce and sour cream. The flavours are mute/mundane; it desperately needed sauce to give it some oomph. The burrito bowl looked like the tastier option. - RIP taco ($3.75) - tofurkey sausage, rice, cheese, sour cream, salsa and lettuce (we opted for the red cabbage). The taco was unmemorable other than they go ham on the sour cream. - Mulita ($4.00) - 6" corn tortilla filled with cheese, rice, refried pinto beans, pico de gallo, sour cream and lettuce. This is described as a mix between a taco and quesadilla. My favourite thing out of everything we ordered. Hefty and I liked the mix of ingredients. BB is popular because it's quick, affordable and filling but their offerings didn't blow me away. 2.5 stars.

I was hungry at bus stop. Then I saw interesting sign on the street and had quick check at Yelp! It seemed nice place. So I decided to try their vegetalian burrito. I'm so happy they have so many kinds of vegetalian dishes. And very tasty! I should have read the instruction how to order first but cashier lady was very friendly and kind. I think I could get what I wanted and very satisfied. I had Henry. It was first time to have Tofurkey for myself . I was shocked because it was so flavorful. Then I overheard they use Italian sausage flavored one. That make a sense. I'm sure I will come back again.

I heard of Budgies through word of mouth and Yelp, so I went here earlier to try their burritos. The decor had a hippy vintage vibe going on. I ordered 10" Stanley burrito ($8)for here and the lady spoke too fast to get order. I was too late to figure out the options (eg. whole wheat or flour tortilla, sour cream or guac kind of thing). Because I've read other reviews saying burritos are filling; 10" size was big enough to fill my tummy. Stanley burrito was good. It would be tastier with green pepper, corns and other veggies I think. Staff was helpful cutting my burrito in half. I'll go back to try more on the menu. Although I'm usually a meat lover, I'll give 4 stars for a good inexpensive burrito.

Credit for speed of service and every menu item can be made vegan. Also, a pretty big portion! Also, just realized I got the same burrito as the first time I came here and didn't like it. Lol. my bad. Still...Don't know what it is. For a solely vegetarian/vegan place, I expected better. The tortilla had a bitter aftertaste, the cheese was just daiya and the vegan meat crumbles was yves. I could make this at home, and probably better (though I couldn't wrap it as nicely). There wasn't much lettuce and there was no authentic flavour complexity. I've had much better vegan Mexican food.

I'd give them 3.5. They're great with efficiency. The burrito was made quickly. You gotta know what you want, though: cabbage or lettuce, white or brown burrito, beans or something else. I got cheese, but I'm assuming it was vegan cheese? I'm not a vegan, but I'm always open to trying new food. This was a decent experience. I ordered the poser burrito with veggie meat, cheese, cabbage, black beans & med hot sauce. Honestly, I didn't taste much of the sauce. Thankfully, I took it home, so I could add my own hot sauce to the burrito. That was better. The cost is around $9 for a decent sized burrito; I can see why people come here. However, I would be more impressed if there were more variety in their burritos.

Nachos with jalapeños, cilantro, and refried beans
    Guerric H.

Great plate of nachos! I was in the mood for nachos and decided to go for a plate with cilantro, jalapeños, and refried beans, along with a can of cider. I got more nachos than I expected - and even better, almost all the nachos had toppings on them! The layering was great, and there was a really hearty amount of cheese overall even though I didn't ask for extra cheese! It was definitely a filling meal all on its own. The place itself is quite small, but it has a nice hole-in-the-wall vibe, and the staff were friendly and service was pretty quick, though I think nachos are a bit slower to arrive than everything else. I'd definitely come back to try something else from the menu.

The portion was good and everything was delicious. I'm GF, and they serve the dips with lettuce for free (or you can order a side of cucumbers for a small charge). The presentation was lovely. We ordered a taouk pita wrap, but we got served a taouk platter instead. Anyhow she just wasn't very attentive. The mixed grill mezze platter was mostly yummy except for the kafta. All of us at the table couldn't have more than a bite of it. The meat was undercooked, and the taste of the lamb was too strong and off. Definitely didn't taste like the kafta we know. The murals, the chandeliers, the bar....and omg, the bathrooms. If you visit, you MUST check out the bathrooms. They have the most fabulous sinks I have ever seen. They didn't have a large selection of HH offerings, unfortunately, but what they did have was amazingly good. My friends who were extremely knowledgeable on Indian cuisine ordered for us, and we shared 3 different small plates (tandoori vegetable momos, cochin cauliflower bites, and some sort of delicious fried onions), and 2 desserts (soan paid malai khwaab, and foxtail millet pudding). We came around 4pm and had a couple of drinks from the regular menu plus the Kerala pepper chicken the momos and the veggie fritters. Again, the food is very good and the prices were reasonable. I will have to come back late night to see if the happy hour issue is rectified at that time as I see the menu is still the exact same as before. ********* Came here after hearing about the recent celebrity visit. First of all, the food is very good the portions are also decent and the prices are reasonable. I would have liked to have come back here for the lunch special as it's walking distance for me, but my visit left a bad taste in my mouth, which I will detail below. The dishes are inventive. There are the usual suspects, but also some that aren't often see at most Indian restaurants in Metro Van. The staff is also very attentive and friendly. The cocktails are pricey, but interesting. The decor is trendy. The bathrooms have an interesting sink feature that I have not seen before. If you're into social media, there's definitely some photo opportunities here. The service is a bit weird as there isn't really a dedicated server for the table. So, basically, we had all sorts of different people taking our drink and food orders, bringing us food, refilling our water and checking in on us. On the plus, it means that you are checked on a lot. On the minus, it is a bit inconsistent because there isn't one single person who knows what is going on with the table, but more a revolving door. For instance, one staff member came and took our drink order, however the wrong drink ended up being made and brought to me by the bartender, even though the drinks had been extensively discussed with the original server. So there's definitely communication issues. My biggest gripe with this restaurant is that we were denied ordering from the happy hour menu by the manager. I did not want to argue about it at the time as the bartender was told in front of us to deny us the happy hour menu, from which we wanted to order some cocktails. At this point, we had already ordered several menu items (in fact so many that the server had advised us we had more than enough food and that we did not need to order an additional dish we were considering) plus full priced cocktails. So it's not like they weren't making money off our table. The reason we were given, which I believe was told to the bartender (to be clear, I do not believe the bartender was at fault, but simply the messenger in this situation), was that the happy hour was only a summer thing. Again, we visually saw the manager instruct the bartender to tell us these things -- they were literally standing in front of our table, less than 5 feet away. This was not only unprofessional, but I found it incredibly dishonest. It was mid-December when we were at the restaurant, 3.5 months after summer had ended. The happy hour menu is literally the first page in the menu book. If a restaurant doesn't want to honour their own happy hour menu, it costs very little to simply reprint the happy hour menu, remove that page completely, or cross it out, if they really want to be cheap. At minimum, they should have honoured the menu for patrons that they gave it to and then rectified the situation for future. For this reason, I cannot recommend this establishment even though the food was very good and I would have otherwise come back and supported this small business.
