My wife and I came here after walking 5 miles up and down the beach in Malibu. We got here around 5p and were able to get a seat quickly as it got busier as dinner time for many approached. We ordered a rainbow roll, a Sunset roll and a Paradise roll, all of which were delicious. June P. Was our server and she was excellent, coming buy a couple times to make sure all was good and then brought us trays and a bag so we could take our leftovers home. We recommend this restaurant 100% if you enjoy really good sushi at a decent price in Malibu.

Bui Sushi in Malibu is one of those spots that makes you wonder why you ever settle for average sushi anywhere else. I kicked things off with the perfect bowl of miso soup. Simple, but so good. Then came the salmon skin salad, which had just the right crunch and flavor to balance it out. The sushi is next level fresh. I went for the High Tide Roll and the Malibu Sunset Roll. Both of which were bright, balanced, and ridiculously good. Grab a bottle of the Dassai 39 sake to share. It's so smooth, and pairs perfectly with everything. The service was great. Friendly and attentive without hovering. Between the rolls, the sake, and the laid-back Malibu vibe, Bui feels like the kind of place you'll keep finding excuses to come back to.

Bui is always a nice place to go sit at the bar and have a quick bite to eat with friends. The staff is always friendly, and the food is consistently good. I do love my salmon, and order that every time. I also like their Malibu sunset roll. They do have a happy hour during the week as well. Make sure you go and check them out!

Gorgeous top class sushi in beautiful environment. Great service. Recommend the Malibus Sunset Roll.

Came in during their happy hour after a nice long beach session and got the sashimi combination with the spicy tuna roll. The sashimi tasted fresh, and the spicy tuna roll was good as well. We also got the spicy garlic chili edamame which was a great starter. The sauce was super flavorful and irresistible. The service was very good and quick, and their recommendations were on point. We wanted to sit outside and were hoping to have a view of the beach too but the outside seating was in the front of the restaurant with not much of a view but the parking lot so that was a bummer. Overall, Bui Sushi nailed the sushi game and would come back for the sashimi combination and edamame!

Cute ambiance and really good sushi! They have lots of options with sashimi, classic rolls, signature rolls and appetizers! Great service as well!

I forgot how amazing this place is. It's been too long! Sat on the covered patio and for a cold ish night, it was lovely and warm with only a couple of heaters on. Beautiful relaxed atmosphere with lovely lighting inside and out. Our waitress was amazing. I would come back just for her. The food is literally one of the best sushi I have ever had. It's perfection on a plate. And the presentation supports my comment.

Came in tonight on a Sunday, you could tell they were understaffed server wise. They had a lot of sushi chefs and food runners on it looked like. Our server had a lot of tables and we definitely felt it! He came by our table a couple times when we ordered but never really checked on our food or our experience and they did bring us a hand roll with soy paper and it took them a very very long time to fix it. They did fix it thankfully but by that point I was kinda over it. The food is always great at bui tho! The prices have gone up- so has everywhere else but for that price I do expect better service. The rock shrimp is my favorite! It is always perfectly crisp and sauced- I did notice the portion size got smaller and price went up! The garlic noodles were great as well! Love the salmon sashimi and the yellowtail with jalepenos comes in such a great yuzu sauce. It was very busy for a Sunday which is great for them! However like I said service was not it tonight.

First time and the service was great. The waiter was very attentive and helpful. The ambiance was good for the time of the day we came to have a late lunch. The food was good. I ordered my meat medium well done but I would've liked for it to be a bit more than well done! (My personal taste) Overall good food and ambiance. $114 for two.

Sushi and sashimi were artfully prepared. Portions were adequate. Would definitely frequent this establishment if closer to home. Out of town for work, but had to get my sushi fix.

Perfect date night restaurant. The ambience takes you and makes you feel like you were in a different state. All the sushi was very fresh and delicious. The service was very prompt and high attention to detail. I would definitely recommend if you're looking for sushi in Malibu.

Casual attire, in despite many said including their website no open-toed shoes for men. I saw plenty of men with their toes out. Very cool vibes. Plenty of memorable photo-op moments. Though it was slightly chilly, there were plenty of heaters to keep us comfortable. Service was impeccable, staff was friendly and attentive. The bottle of Matsuhisa Cabernet Sauvignon set event in motion. Did not know he had his own bottle of wine. Excellent bold red wine with nice smooth, fruit-forward finish. We ordered a variety of cold dishes. The Yellow tail jalapeno was terrific and so refreshing. Highly recommend! Both crispy rice with spicy tuna and wagyu & tuna tacos were good, but nothing to write home about. Nigri Bluefin Toro was melt-in-your-mouth delicious. The texture was incredibly tender and buttery. Both salmon and tuna sushi were on point as well. Freshness is key. Their signature Black Cod with Miso was stellar and flavorful. A bit on sweeter side in good way. Unfortunately, they were out of Rock Shrimp Tempura, but had the Cod Tempura instead, which we thought was just okay. We got a variety of meat dishes - Ribeye with Truffle Butter, 16oz Prime New York Strip and 6oz Wagyu. Of course, wagyu was everyone's favorite, followed by ribeye which was tender and delicious. Crispy Brussels Sprouts was underwhelming and lacking presentation. It looked a bit mashed up and overcooked. Roasted cauliflower was a nice side dish to accompany our meal. We ended the evening with desserts and got date cake; and bento box which is dark chocolate cake and matcha ice cream. OMG date cake was surprisingly good! It was gone in seconds soon as it arrived. The dark chocolate cake was sweet and fudgy. Definitely would come back if someone else would pay...lol! Parking - valet only.

That alone already gives it a special kind of charm, but the food and overall experience definitely delivered too. First off, parking is actually easy which in this area is a huge win.. I didn't have to circle or stress, which immediately made the whole visit feel more relaxed from the start. The sushi itself was super fresh. You can really taste the quality of the fish, and everything came out clean, well presented, and just really satisfying. Nothing felt overly heavy or overly complicated, just solid, fresh sushi done right. I kept thinking the whole time how consistent everything tasted. Now I have to talk about the mango sticky rice because that completely surprised me. It was honestly amazing. Perfectly sweet without being too much, the mango was fresh and juicy, and the rice had that warm, creamy texture that just hits. It ended up being one of my favorite parts of the whole meal, which I did not expect walking into a sushi place. I will say it is a little on the pricey side, but at the same time you can tell you are paying for quality and location. It didn't feel like a ripoff, just more of a treat kind of place rather than an everyday casual stop. The service was smooth and easy, nothing over the top but attentive enough that you feel taken care of without being hovered over. The whole vibe is low key but still feels like a place you want to come back to. The only thing I regret is not getting the uni. I kept thinking about it after and I know it would have been incredible based on how fresh everything else was. Overall, really solid spot. Fresh sushi, amazing mango sticky rice, easy parking, and a calm, enjoyable atmosphere. Definitely one of those places you're glad is still around and worth going back to.

Came at around 2 pm on a weekday so was luckily able to find a parking spot and there was no line to order. If it's busy, good luck. Food was delicious and priced well. Tartar sauce was great, the cocktail sauce as well (and I don't normally like cocktail sauce). Filled me up great. Small clam chowder - 7/10 Pretty solid clam chowder. I probably wouldn't get it again, but the first few spoonfuls were great and very enjoyable. Some of the clam towards the bottom was more chewy which wasn't ideal. We've tried the grilled salmon in the past- and it's nicely cooked and tasty - but the star of the show is their fried offerings. What could be better than a crisply fried piece of cod with delicious fries overlooking the ocean? They do a better job frying fish than much more expensive places (looking at you Santa Monica seafood restaurant). The coleslaw is always fresh, and we also love the creamy chowder, chock full of clam bits. My one note is that they do not season their food so you need to add salt and pepper to everything. The coleslaw benefits from salt and a squeeze of lemon or a few drops of the malt vinegar on the table (also good with the fries of course). I'm not sure why they don't season their fish or batter - but maybe they figure it's best to keep it unsalted and people can add seasoning? There is also hot sauce on the table which adds the perfect zing to the chowder. The people who run the place are friendly and the place is especially popular on weekends. I'd recommend coming midweek either before or after peak lunch hours. Highly recommend.

The rice was cold, packed too tightly, and tough, which really hurts the overall experience. A lot of the sushi was also overwhelmed by sauces, which covered up the flavor of the fish instead of highlighting it. Maybe this works if you like heavily dressed rolls, but it is not what I would call great sushi, especially by California standards. The wait was also frustrating, not just because it was long, but because of how poorly it seemed to be managed. It felt like regulars could walk up, say the right thing, and get seated while everyone else just stood around waiting. That kind of thing makes the experience feel pretty lousy. The restaurant itself is packed, loud, and cramped. The tables are tiny, and there are not many of them, so it is hardly a pleasant dinner experience. To me, this place feels more driven by hype, social media, and people following the crowd than by truly excellent sushi. I wanted to like it, but based on this visit, I would not go back.

The same young man asks if I'd like water; I say yes. The water never arrives. The woman with the long braid continues going in and out of the very small shop another five or six times. I'm seated directly outside the door, yet I'm completely ignored. A third employee appears, and it's clear there's confusion about who is doing what. Still, no one takes responsibility. I have to ask - again - if my order will be taken and also request water once more. At this point, I ask the young man directly whether I should just leave and go somewhere else, because it's obvious their operations aren't dialed in.
