The chicken teriyaki was not the best. Made with tough dark meat and missing a stronger teriyaki flavor. I had a coupon and using it was confusing. When I asked about it 2/3 employees were not sure how to proceed. Then I was told to order on the app. Then when I asked how to put in the code they told me I just order at the counter. This place was super yummy! It's located in North Hills, so it is busy, but plenty of parking. The restaurant does not have any indoor seating, so mostly a takeaway place, but they do have outdoor tables. Inside, it is lined up like Chipotle and they have Pre-designed bowls, or you can create your own. I opted for a pre-designed bowl called the Tokyo bowl. The Ginger Chicken was a tad bit dry and hard and did not taste like ginger? However, the veggies and salad were delicious! Kimchi fried rice was not worth the up charge of $1.50. Selected to have have the cilantro sour cream on the side and I'm SO GLAD we did because it was awful - had a metal taste to it. Over all, with a few changes - I'd try it again. There are a few tables outside, which I took advantage of on a warm-ish day in late fall. Menu choices are familiar - a selection of signature boxes, or build-your-own. I tried a Seoul Box. Sweet and tangy beef bulgogi is served over a bed of rice. An assortment of other ingredients are layered on - carefully done so that it's truly a work of art. This one includes lettuce, pickled eggplant, pickles, citrus kale salad, kimchi and topped with a fried egg. The whole thing is sprinkled with scallions & sesame seeds and a drizzle of Gochujang sauce. There's a lot of contrasting flavors - sweet, (mild) spicy, sour, earthy. I had their Thai Box and my friend had the Shanghai Box...listen to this...Thai basil grilled chicken, Cucumber w/ Dill, Roasted Mixed Vegetables, Jalapeño, Banh Mi Pickles, Cilantro, crushed peanuts & Thai Basil Lime Aioli Peanut Curry Sauce. I liked the build your own option. There are lots of veggies and healthy options as well as proteins. I do wish they had tofu, but they have "veggie protein balls" which were vague but appear to be falafel. I'm happy to have a veg option but would have loved more clarity about what they were and they were a little dry. Ask for extra sauce for these! Overall the toppings were delicious and a good way to sneak veggies in your diet. The sauces and extra toppings added extra flavor. They only have bottled water to drink - I would have loved a fun drink to go with my meal. They have easy online ordering via Grubhub. It's new and I think working out some logistical kinks- it took rather long to receive my order and the little area was getting crowded- they have a sliding window behind the register which I would prefer they used, so you can step outside once you've ordered. But the window is covered with a display ad currently. Also the music was too loud and staff couldn't hear a customer order so he had to remove his mask to shout. I had the Shanghai Box which was good, but not anything mind blowing. I got mine with a base of half white rice and half salad. The chicken was a bit more breaded and not as tender as I would've liked but I really did enjoy the flavor of the sauce and the eggplant too. I know that this location just opened recently so they may have a few kinks to work out and I'll give them another shot in the future. The box was a generous sized portion and I wasn't able to finish it all for lunch. I do think Bul Box fills the need for a quick counter service Asian cuisine spot for the North Hills area, so I think it'll do well. Very average. Love the other location in Transfer Food Hall, but the menu is completely different here. Ordered Thai Box (average) and Salmon Poke Bowl (bad). The Thai basil chicken was odd. It was a precooked chicken breast that got reheated on the grill so the texture was off and didn't taste any Thai basil flavor. Overall the box itself was tasteless even though it was covered in multiple sauces. Unfortunately the poke was inedible. The salmon tasted a day or two old so we threw that out. Love the concept of this restaurant, but can't recommend. Check out the Transfer location instead! read more
