I have been wanting to try this place for a while but am never out in Montgomery on a day they are open. The wait does not disappoint. I tried the Wyatt Earp hotdog (bacon, burnt ends, chipotle Mayo, sriracha) and the Johnny Ringo corndogie (bacon, creamy peanut butter, raspberry jelly.) It sounds bizarre but it was so good!! If that man would have snuffed up his snot while I was eating, well, I don't know what would have happened. But I guess since we still haven't gotten our food, not an issue. Our ticket is next, so I am hoping to end this rant soon. Hallelujah, our food is here, hot and fresh and really smelling delicious. Perfect seasoning on our triple trio fries, sweet potato fries and tater tots. The buns are a perfect compliment to the nice big hotdogs, I should have been back several times already without cheap DH. Every bite I take further cements the knowledge that at least I will be back, I happily will eat a gourmet dog again. Last time we were here the corn dog was fantastic, today not so much. Second time this week because it was so good and I wanted to try a new combination. It's Wild West clean atmosphere and fun large sandwich menu although all beef hot dogs are the main attraction. "Well hot dog, we have ourselves a wiener!" Having missed the precise location in the strip mall several times (having assumed I already knew where everything was on 105 already from Conroe to Navasota outskirts) Phildrena G.'s photo of the front of the biz was helpful to locate the exact strip mall it is within, which is not on the lake side. There is parking out front in a lot shared with other businesses in the strip mall. Pay attention as you walk in as the little register station you pay at (on the way out) is right there by the door, and you will miss it if you are just trying to take in the lay of the land and the ethereal hot dog warmth flying at your face like you were at a Nathan's back east. You seat yourself with various options for table types (or push them together for more table-shaped tables) or at the bar in the main room, and tables in a small "back room" that is a little more quiet than the main room but more pushed in if you also want to join in on your neighbors conversations as several of ours did. This is a total DIY situation from start to finish after you seat yourself. So you review the menus on the table and then use the pen and paper on your table to write down your order, then you walk it over to the guy manning the grill, as you stand at the bar handing over your slip of paper. If you want drinks you grab them yourself out of the small refrigerator behind you. The plastic forks and knives you grab from the pull-the-lever-kronk dispenser right next to the small refrigerator. It appears like there is no free/tap water so you have to splurge for a bottle of water if you are trying to hydrate between crushing bottles of tequila and jagermeister back out on the lake. There are many unique aspects of a place like this, in a place like this out in the country. They have both Nathan's and Hebrew National dogs - omg! Every day you visit this joint is a good day to be Ashkenazim because around here hot dog options are usually mystery meat and mystery meat with a lil extra mystery; the last time I even saw Nathan's as an option was at the Newark airport when I was coming home from an extended stationing in my firm (at the time's) NYC office in the Empire State Building. Hebrew National is also pretty hard to find this far down south. And they had both of them here for you! These are quality hot dog environs to give you both; just like Bob's Country Bunker provides both kinds of music, country AND western. There are not plentiful bun options (like Frank in Austin and now San Antonio which have a list of bun options longer than Richie "Trashmouth" Tozier's ... ya know) but the bun they give you strongly resembles kolache bread with the hint of sweetness, and quite buttery like a Fuddruckers hamburger bun repurposed into housing a wiener rather than a meatwad. The bun is quite good and a perfect vehicle to allow Nathan's to ride in style with the lovely Texas twist of the kolache bread similarity. They are definitely on to something here with beautiful bread providing great synergy with the gentlesir's favourite types of hot dogs. Things just kept getting better after settling on the hot dog options once you turn your attention to the fries. These fries are amazeballs, you would sacrifice twenty of your finest goats to the sky fry fairy to celebrate xer's glory for producing these things and providing them unto you. They are almost-curly like Arby's full curls but at the same time wedges, somehow being nearly onion ring (sans onion) in consistency. These are PERFECTLY done as fries. And then the stuff gets added on to make them even better. Sriracha fries are one of my favourite items on any menu and they are also my blood type so of course that is my order. Sriracha fries come with a house made chipotle ranch, buldogie bacon, chives, buldogies secret sauce, and is finished off with sriracha, all for $5.25 on the 'trailraders' portion of the menu. This is perfection in a paper sleeve since they make it rain with the bacon and they are not shy at all about making this old gal saucy. I was quizzical about the presentation in the carnival to-go kind of paper sleeve they serve the fries in but the coating on the paper made sure it really got into the fries rather than wandering off elsewhere if it was served on a plate or hurled at your stupid face and whatever stuck was the portion size you got (you get what you get!) When the meal is over you have to clean up your own place then take the carbon copy of your order paper to the register station near the door and pay there. This is a unique concept and you have to do it all yourself besides cooking, they actually do that for you. The food is unbelievable and the options so plentiful you could find many great meals here as you work your way around the charming menu. This place is full of surprises; a must-visit when in need of the gentlesir's finest hot dogs and Texas state fair fare of myriad fried and otherwise delightful options. read more

I had the "Sundance Dog" with Black Forest Ham, Vermont Cheddar Cheese, an almost candied thick sliced bacon, chipotle mayo with a fried egg on top! The bakery fresh bun was insanely delicious too! We also tried the Sriracha Fries which were not overly spicy but chocked full of multilevel flavor. It's one of those dishes that combines several great tastes to form that party in your mouth. The desert was another custom creation with homemade whipped topping (Bull Whip) a fried Reese's Pieces candy bar (not a typo!) vanilla ice cream and some perfect funnel cake strands. Is there a sixth star? I know crazy, right. I mean we are talking hotdogs and the like, but I just had the best damn hotdog of my life and I'm older than dirt! The staff here are super pleasant and equally busy as they are short handed like most. Exercise some patience but it will be more than worth it when your food arrives. Customers were friendly and struck up conversation while they waited, most raving about the food and portion size. I had the Jesse James hotdog and it's a moment I will remember, lol. First it is nestled in the lightest, slightly toasted bun that will exceed any hotdog bun you have had. I don't usually eat the bread but this was an exception. The dog itself is all beef and bigger than average. It's been grilled perfectly, heightening the flavors. The Jesse James is covered in finely diced crisp bacon, minced grilled onions and blue cheese crumbles topped with a little drizzle of Frank's hot sauce, divine! I accompanied mine with sweet potato tater tots and the girl who never had more than a bite of her sides, finished them all. We also had a hand dipped corn dog and the buldogie fries, curls of crisp deliciousness. Tried a cute little hotdog place called Buldogies yesterday. I knew I would like it when I saw the parking sign! They make everything order so it all comes out hot and fresh. Their homemade lemonade is delicious and they do free refills. I got the Nathan's hotdog with bacon mac & cheese. the cheese was bubbly and it had that burnt crisp cheese on the top- delicious. My brother-in-law got the Sundance Dog. And it had shaved Boarshead ham on it with cheddar cheese, crispy bacon, and an egg cooked to perfection. My niece got the corn dog. It was huge and came in a nice crispy coating. My sister got the Jesse James with blue cheese crumbles, bacon & onions. We split the tater trio plate, came with fries, tater tots and sweet potato fries. They were all seasoned well and crispy. For dessert we got a funnel cake with melted marshmallow on the top and powdered sugar. Last but not least I got pink cotton candy and watermelon cotton candy. Great food but I couldn't take my eyes off the flattop grill, it's one of the smallest commercial grills available and also one of the dirtiest I've ever seen. Went in for the first time. The little corner restaurant seats about 30 so it can feel kind of small. The drinks are self serve and the stuff was very friendly. The two people doing the cooking are the owners. My boyfriend had the make your own hotdog and saracha fries, I had the rootbeer float. He said his was delicious. The bun looked like it could support the load he had on there. I wish they served, or allowed you to bring in beer, that would be a neat touch.
