First time at White Sands Beach and we looked for a good place for dinner. Stopped by Bum Rogers as we love good fresh crabs. And we got it! Great steamed blue crabs - fresh and well cooked. Other food was great too: lobster steamer combo, rack of ribs, tuna steak and garlic shrimp. We were 10 people and everybody just loved the food. Told us that the big party that's been sitting has been there for a while and they can't tell them to get up. Honestly I'll never come back to Bum Rogers. They sit us at the smallest table for 12 and one of the tables was broken. So as I'm sitting the table is resting on my lap. They didn't really care and the guy at the back bar was rude. Upset we had to spend money here for my moms birthday. Bum Rogers is absolutely ridiculous and not worth the hype. This place is probably as good as a McDonald's with a working ice cream machine. Disappointing Take Out We got take out from here tonight. Pretty Simple ...2 orders of white sauce and clams . One with linguine and another with rice. We asked then for salt , napkins and utensils. We got napkins..no salt , no utensils. The order was rice had less than a cup of rice and a small portion of clams with two thin slices of bread on top that was not even toasted . For 20 bucks a serving nothing else was included - no salad ,nothing. I get this dish often when I'm visiting a seaside town and this was by far the most disappointing. With so many places trying to stay alive you would think they would do a better job . I understand that with this place you are paying for the atmosphere but even when we placed our order - who ever took our order was very short with us . We had hoped to find a restaurant that would suit both the seafood and non-seafood eaters in our party. The menu did offer good variety, and that is where the positives ended. The table was very dirty, I had to wipe melted butter from my seat before I could sit down. There was an empty lobster tail under the table, which is gross - but did give us all a chuckle when the dirty tail inspired the 6 year old to order 'whatever comes in that shell under the table'. Our party had 8 people, we ordered the shrimp cocktail and the crab balls to start. Just ok. The appetizers were not accompanied with plates, though appetizers plates did arrive when the appetizer platters were cleared....then left on the table. I had the lobster bisque...yuck! The menu said it was award winning....perhaps for worst bisque. Incredibly over floured, far too sweet and thick as peanut butter. I did however find an actual piece of claw meat - so I'll give them that much. Our party had 3 burgers, an order of stuffed shrimp, an order of chicken fingers, the shrimp & scallop scampi, a kids fried shrimp and my surf & turf with crab topping. I have no idea what that cook did to my steak, the menu claimed it was filet but it was clearly not. I ordered the filet cooked medium rare - it was downright grey inside. It came with no steak knife and was tough, so my butter knife didn't stand a chance. I had to ask the busboy for a steak knife. When he delivered the knife, held by the blade in his hand, it was dirty. At that point the rest of our party was done eating, and I just let it go. I wasn't going to eat what they were passing as filet anyway. When the server asked if I'd like a box, I said 'no thank you, the steak was severely over cooked.' She just said ok and dropped the check. No offer to correct the issue or to adjust the bill. Overall, filthy and serving mediocre seafood. Please save yourself the same fate and eat somewhere else. Food was decent, but the lack of safety for Covid was ridiculous. Our waitress had her mask on, but the rest of the workers had them on, but with their nose exposed. What's the point??!! The manager/owner was walking around without a mask on. The bar was packed at least 4 people deep. A table of 8 was literally standing over us without masks while they waited for their table. WOW this place has gone downhill. I first went here when my now 33 yo old son was 6. First the hostess asked if we wanted to sit on the sidewalk, we said No, she seemed surprised but I was really surprised when less than half the tables were occupied in the back area. This left us with food but no plates to eat off, I had to flag down a busser, that seemed confused by my request for small plates. Eight People trying to eat diner on a Saturday night....the wait was only 75 minutes, and the table was actually available earlier than expected. Two of us hung out at the bar while we waited for the table, the rest of the group was back at the house cleaning up and getting ready...when the table was ready early, everyone walked over and we sat down no issues. The Bum's Award Winning Lobster Bisque (cup for $9) was incredibly tasty...well worth the price...large pieces of lobster, very rich and flavorful. My wife ordered the Bum's Famous Garlic Crab (Fresh crabs de-aproned smothered in garlic wine and spices... these bad boys put us on the map) -- they were very tasty, tons of garlic, but honestly the crabs were quite small, not sure they were worth the effort to get to the meat - but the flavor was on point. read more

We started with two orders of the garlic wine clams (we order always) and one order of clams on the half shell. Was down the shore Saturday night and found this wonderful family-owned restaurant. Tables were spaced for social distancing and all the staff wore masks. Hostess told us about a 30 minute wait. We found some seats by the outdoor bar and ordered drinks. Cocktails were great and the local craft beers were excellent. Met a couple of local guys at the bar and got some great food recommendations from them. We were seated in less than 30 minutes in the outdoor area which had a great vibe. Food was great. The crab balls and steak crostini appetizers were delicious and the wings were meaty and moist. The crab cake and fried fish sandwiches were perfect and there was raving going on about the lobster roll and the cheeseburger. The manager (Joel) was verbally harassing the 13 year old hostess girl in front of our table. When I spoke out for him to please stop, he continued to tell me that it wasn't my business and to "come at me". When I stood up he decided to push me multiple times and scream in my face and say he was going to kill me. Joel had to be physically dragged away because he couldn't control himself while I was simply trying to talk to him about respecting a young working hostess. Would not recommend ever. Manager has serious Napoleon complex and I really hope this doesn't get thrown under the rug as that seems to be a normal occurrence.
