Fried oyster platter was so greasy it made me ill. After our server took our order, we never saw him again until he brought the check. Will never eat here again. read more

Years ago we loved coming here with the kids. We went the other day , and upon our arrival we asked the hostess if it was half price appetizers. She responded yes (we were there at 4:00) We ordered a bunch of appetizers thinking they were half price , along with crabs and a few other things that we knew weren't. Apparently we didn't read the small print that said half price appetizer only works if you're at the tables near the bar or outside. We politely asked to speak with a manager , and our lovely waitress was very understanding and got her for us. Well the manger , was on her little power trip and brought the menu over to point out the fact that it says we weren't in the right seating area. (Our fault for not seeing that print and assuming the hostess knew we were going to be ordering appetizers after asking her about it, and she didn't mention sitting on the other side) The manger took $25 off our $200 check, but her tone was completely off. The food was pretty awful. The calamari was microwaved , we had about 3 pieces of it. The wings were dry , and barely any meat. The only nice thing about this place was the young waitress. read more

It might have been a result of a warm, early Spring Saturday that resulted in confusion and disorganization with the staff. From the time we walked in and waited 5 minutes for the woman standing at the hostess desk to acknowledge our party of 2 since she was busy organizing behind the desk, and talking to other staff members about random things, to the mediocre food, this visit was a disappointment. The only saving grace for the visit was our server. Hopefully, they will get their act together for the upcoming season. It is worth giving them another shot to see if they worked out the kinks. read more

This is the local watering hole, so I've heard. I would say that that statement is correct. This is not a place to go out and club and meet people. All the locals were here and it looks small on the outside, but the place is huge. There's indoor and outdoor seating. One place looks more like a restaurant when you walk in, then there's a bar, then it goes to outdoor seating, then there's an outdoor bar. They have a decent sized drink menu and a food menu. I got the watermelon cooler. It wasn't the best drink I've ever had, but it wasn't bad. It honestly tasted like a straight up watermelon the first time around and the second time it was soo strong. So it depends on the bar tender. My boyfriend got a Corona. One cocktail and one beer were $16 without tip. It was a fun bar. Very lively, stereotypical bar. This is not a place to come to if you like clean things. The floors and tables were gross, but if you can get over that, then it'll be a good time. The band inside was fun! It's definitely catered towards an older crowd, but I enjoy live music in general, so I didn't mind. I don't know their name, but the saxophonist was phenomenal! read more

All I can say is "What a Bummer." Imagine paying $30 for a fried shrimp platter and getting only six small shrimp. Got the lobster bisque soup, ate none of it after the first bite, and still got charged full price. Total bill, $180 for complete garbage. Take your money elsewhere, you won't regret not going here. read more

I found my new seafood spot on the Jersey Shore. This gem is a perfect Jersey classic. No fanfare, just good, FRESH, seafood. The prices are right and the food is delicious. I will be back especially in the fall time frame when the shore crowds have subsided. read more

I went to this restaurant based on an ad I heard on my usual radio station I use since I moved to the Jersey Shore; They have great food & service and many different places to eat and have a great meal; I recommend them to everyone!!! read more

Great experience , food and service was excellent ! Love the steamers ! My summer retreat when down the Jersey Shore.

Came highly recommended as a good local seafood restaurant. My family all chose the seafood buckets. Taste was good, but crabs were small, each only had one tiny potato and half a cob of corn. Not quite what we expected for the price. read more

I'd say this is more of a 3.5 star place but I'm rounding up for excellent service. We came on a random weeknight around 7:00pm. We had just come from Island Beach and had our dog with us. We had been trying to get here all summer because we almost always have our dog with us at the beach nearby and they have a dog friendly patio area. The restaurant was mostly empty and the outdoor area was mostly dark. We decided to ask if we could sit outside and they gladly sat us. The lights on the tree weren't lighting up which wasn't a big deal to us but they made sure to get them turned on for us to enjoy . The outdoor seating area is small so if you're coming in nicer weather expect a wait. Also being so close to the bay mosquitos can be an issue. Food was exactly what you expect from a bar. Everything we ordered was very good. Service was excellent here and the dog friendly outdoor area is a big bonus for us and anyone else enjoying Island Beach with your dog. read more

Food was meh. Ambiance - meh. Service-meh. Nothing much has changed over the years. A solid 2 1/2 stars. They really need to work on their stuffing for shrimp and flounder. It's so bread filled, it sticks to the roof of your mouth. read more

The manager, Barbie, burst out of the kitchen and accused the service dog accompanying of barking. The dog did not bark. Barbie was obnoxiously abrupt and 100 percent wrong. She caused a severe PTSD reaction and needs to loose her job. Bum Rogers, until you educate your staff, I will make this my mission to bring awareness to how Service Dogs and their people should be treated. Barbie is a detriment to society and the fact that you let her talk to customers like this is now your problem. I want apologies and proper training. Also, please fire that insulting, nasty person. Shame on all of you. read more

Been through IBSP scores of times over the years and I'm bummed that this is the first time I've noticed Bum Rogers -- much less -- thought about staying local for dinner. Overall -- a very pleasant experience for Sweetie, our 11 year old and me. I confess a bit of a prejudice against Jersey Shore seafood joints because most places either fry the bejeezus out of perfectly fresh seafood, or cook it to death and/or smother it in butter. These are warning signs for me of either bad cooking technique or poor quality seafood being masked by frying or heavy greasing. These issues did not crop up at Bums, relieving me of any food bumdom at this seafood place. Our scallops, stuffed flounder and juniors fried fish platter were all well prepared, well seasoned and tasty. The lobster bisque was righteous and creamy with plenty of lobster chunks -- lots more than I expected. And the pint pours of draft beer were perfect on that hot, post beach, summer day. The raw bar was decent but choices were limited. I would have liked more variety, but I quibble. The only semi bummer for me is with volume here. It was barely full but louder than heck on a weekend summer afternoon at about 3:30. Plenty of folks getting tuned up, and when the band started banding (meh tribute band -- not exactly on key all the time) -- even yelling at Sweetie at the top of my lungs was met with a smile from her. Ok. Got that out of the way. Not the owners fault but not my scene either. Still we will try again when in the area. I suspect that it's less frenetic off season and I'd like to try it then. Top Tip: Dine early to insure timely service and if you want a bit more peace and quiet. The folks that came in after us had long waits for seating and I suspect, even longer waits for service and tinnitus after leaving. ;) read more

covid review: what.a.nice.surprise. ive partied next store in my early 20s, but id never thought id end up here in this side of town in my 30s to be eating a nice dinner. mid september things are pretty slow down here, but bum rogers stays open late and will serve you a nice dinner. the beer selection was pretty decent for a local watering hole, but if youre here stay for dinner. first off, the crab dip is a must get. its basically melted chedder, with lumps of crab and artechoke. tortilla chips on the side to be drowned in. my suggestion - order more chips because theyre not enough. another staple app are the fish bites. fresh, slightly crunchy, and filling - well worth every penny. stuffed flounder with crab meat was so damn good! there are 2 perfectly pan grilled flounders overflowing with crab meat. on the side is some dirty rice - cooked well and seasoned even better. fresh cut veggies also make an appearance. clams - i wouldnt bother with. they werent cleaned well and were less than par. the show stopper? the garlic crab. get the garlic crab app, youll get about 8 crabs drowned in their secret garlic butter sauce. my friend got them and went to town on them. she loved them. the flavor was point. my server was phenomneal, but the kitchen and bar is very slow despite a lowkey weds night. would i come back? absolutely. read more

Bum Rogers is located on the barrier peninsula, and one would think that it would be a place that would only cater to tourists going to the beach. But a lot of my local friends and coworkers who live on the mainland go there a lot. So, I have been wanting to try it out for years. They are basically a seafood restaurant with a bar as well. On Yelp I checked out of the pictures of food, and I decided that I was getting the seared Ahi tuna in advance. But I included pictures of what my friends ordered, too. Some of the items tasted better than others. My ahi tuna was actually pretty good but not outstanding. I have to say that my stomach didn't really agree with it, which doesn't always happen. People who have a sensitive stomach should definitely not get that. The side of vegetables were very nicely prepared. The rice had fresh garlic in it, too, which made it a little bit more interesting. To start off with, I ordered the soup of the day, which was chicken vegetable. It turns out it was really Manhattan clam chowder with chicken instead of clams. It was a very weird combination, and I would not order it again. My buddy got fish tacos. There was a choice of which fish you wanted in it. He got tuna, and he did not like it. It took a while for me to understand what he was talking about, but basically tuna should not be fried because it gets too dry. It would've been better with mahi-mahi, or the tuna should've just been fresh inside of the fish tacos. My buddy liked the fried seafood combo, and my other friend really liked the stuffed flounder a lot. The atmosphere was a lot more happening than I was expecting. The outside seating area in the back looks like it was there even before the pandemic. They have an outside bar in the back, too. We definitely had a lot of fun. The prices were high. I understand because it's in a beach resort area. I just question why people from the mainland might go there because the dollar for dollar value is not favorable. But we definitely had a lot of fun, and despite some misses with the recipes, the food was pretty good if you're in the mood for a seafood restaurant in the summer. read more

Nice local spot. Came in February great low key music selection. Calamari was great, doesn't have all the breading holding half the grease fryer in it. Crab dip had lots of crab meat but you can't taste it because it's a crock of Queso cheese with crab added. Salads looked great. Brian is a good bartender and service was excellent. Will be back for full dinner again and likely upgrade the stars read more

It takes a lot of things done wrong for me to write a negative review but I had a horrible experience. I arrived at the bar for Happy Hour on Football Sunday at approximately 530 PM. The website and menus both say "daily HH til 6 pm". I asked if there was any specials today (Sunday) for Football. Bartender said "no". I thought perhaps I was mistaken so I just ordered stuff. When I spotted the HH til 6 on the menu I had in front of me I told them I came in because this is what I saw on the website. Arguments and a lot of attitude came my way. Response:" We haven't had time to change the menu (or website) for 1 year but HH ends at 5:30....." Waffle Fries I received with the sandwich were like the tiny crumbles from the bottom of the Fryer basket and cold. Even the bartender was astonished they put what they did on a plate. Food plates were literally dropped on bar to the point I was startled and the runner bolted. In their defense the manager did give me a credit on my bill for the Happy Hour situation. The reason why I am writing this is because when I left the restaurant there was a banner sized sign outside that said Sunday NFL specials beer, etc. that Bummer Rodgers also doesn't honor. Despite the credit on my check this was just a horrible experience and 80% of the people working there are angry and have the attitude that " we don't need you,"( the customer). Overall "bummed" experience. Would not go back. I guess they get enough business that they don't have to give a crap. read more

Bum Rogers Crab House & Tavern - Happy Hour fake disclosure. - Seafood Near Me - Seaside Park, New Jersey

It was a very nice time at Bum Rogers Crabhouse, the food, the staff and the company. Located at the Jersey Shore, this restaurant is open all year long. During the summer season, this place gets quite busy as was the case today, a very gorgeous afternoon. Crabs, Lobster, and Clams galore adorned our table for two hours of feasting. When you live at the Shore, you gotta pig-out on seafood once in a while and this is one of the places to do it. And it didn't break the bank!!! There are three areas, outdoor al fresco dining, indoors and the bar-area. For you bier aficionados there is a wide variety of local crafts at reasonable prices. There's also an area for a large party of 16 people. Parking can be hard but I believe it's free. read more

The noise was pretty excessive on top of a band that played way too loud. Food was fair and the wait service at the bar seemed as if they were distracted by playing on their phones during dinner hour. Come on, put that shit away until you're done helping waiting customers. read more

Howard M. Of course we were not making rude comments about any people that would make them leave. But the behavior of the four next to us caused at least 3 groups to leave prematurely. And I was thanked by patrons leaving the restaurant for having the guts to call this group out for offensive behavior. You may want to educate your staff on how to deal with these type of situations. read more

When I'm in Lavallette this is my go to place to hide away. AWESOME FOOD and SERVICE. Andrew is the greatest guy.

We reviewed the menu before arriving as my husband is not a fan of seafood. So we made sure they had steak. Server was pleasant. My husband asked the sizes of the steak. She stated we don't have the NY strip or filet. Assuming they ran out (it was only 7pm). Then proceeded to say they haven't had it for a month. He ended up with a bowl of chowder and a shrimp cocktail. I had the shrimp and broccoli with vodka sauce. Very disappointing. Good thing the Sawmill was still open so I could get my husband a piece of pizza. If they aren't going to have certain items in the winter they should have a different menu. read more

UPDATE: Look at the owner's response. My yelp history reviews suggest nothing as to what this owner implies -- as I try to be the most objective as I can be. 1. The owner is lying as Howard M. suggests we insulted the hosts. Meanwhile, they told one of our groups, who sat across from the restaurant, because they gave our table to the wrong party. The hostesses said, "well, at least you got a fu**ing table." This is AFTER standing around for 25 minutes because the staff didn't know what to do. Again, look at the owner's response and tell me who insulted who? We spent over $1000 there and still paid the gratuity + cash. 2. The owner replied, "The hosts and servers even took a table from another server's section to accommodate your party. But even that was not enough to satisfy your group." Good. That's what you're supposed to do when you mess up. Who wants to have their party split across the restaurant? Thanks for doing your job, I guess? 3. Howard M. says, "One the women in your group even went to the other large party and berated them for not giving up their table for your group. That, and your parties behavior are inexcusable." This statement, in its entirety, is nothing more than a lie. We honored three young men who passed away, and we were in mourning, not anger. Frustration towards the staff, sure but certainly not the other party for doing nothing wrong. An owner that is lying when you leave nothing more than an objective and truthful review. Additionally, this honest and objective review gets told to "take your one-star review, fold it up and put it where the sun doesn't shine, and never, ever come back to our establishment." Professional behavior there. I suggest spending your money at the pizza place around the corner for better service and food. read more

SEASIDE PARK: you wouldn't know it from the outside, but as you walk down the corridor to Bum Rogers Crabhouse & Tavern's outdoor patio, it gets cooler and cooler. Tropical artwork really stands out and even says "dog friendly!" The patio has a lot of dining tables and there's also an outdoor bar with TVs! A fun atmosphere with good food and lots of beers on tap including Icarus Brewing Co.! Really cool vibes here! The entrance to Island Beach State Park is 2 blocks away! The staff loves dogs and they provide doggie bowls if you need one. A great place to visit this summer! The ocean facing beaches in Seaside Park and South SSP are NOT dog friendly, but Island Beach State Park is dog friendly! "From Memorial Day Weekend through the first of October, pets are not permitted on the Ocean Swimming Beaches (lifeguarded areas). Pets are permitted South of the Ocean Swimming Areas during this time period but must be held on a leash (maximum length - 6 feet) and you must clean up after your pet. Why I'm giving 4/5: We put our name in with the host & when it was time for our table we asked about one outside & they said there was a whole other host we'd have to talk to and wait in line for. This should definitely be more clear. The live music was also obnoxiously loud... BUT We had the most AMAZING shrimp & crab quesadillas. Unfortunately, this is not on the menu, just a special. The guac is also super fresh & really good. If the owners/management read this, please add this year-round! It was SO good. Probably one of the best quesadillas I've ever had. read more
