We are here last evening. Probably one of the very worst meals we have had in years. For starters the ceiling was leaking some kind of gross dirty water on to my sons head. We got up and left our table. Server said .. oh this has been a problem. We moved to another table. The lobster bisque was super thick and no flavor. We had two orders of king crab legs @ $50 per order. We were hungry and just kept them and ate them. We SHOULD have sent the both orders back. Went for lunch on a Sunday with my daughter and son in law. We all enjoyed the food. Nice size portions and drinks were large which is always a plus. Suggest slicing it thin to be more edible. Dressing on fish taco tasted bad. Chowder and bisque was good but very salty and 9.00 for a Cup of bisque is rather nuts. If you want steak, they're pretty out of a few steaks, I bet if you ordered take out from next door you might get it. Drinks lacking and watered. Also no soup of the day. Solid seaside shore restaurant. It's not the quietest or romantic spot so i think it's better for a families and groups. We got the Garlic crabs in that delicious sauce I wanted to drink (but decided against that) and the whole table for the lobster special (1 1/4 pound) which was more then enough food for all of us. Came with corn and a small boulder potato. Fresh tasting and just what we wanted. Definitely not a 5 star restaurant and the inside was super loud (we ate outside) but when I went to bathroom there was a loud band and some guy singing, which almost sounded like karaoke, or just really bad singing. 20 minute wait on a busy summer Friday night. However, when they said 20 minutes, it was. Enjoyed the fish tacos and the side salad was delicious. First time back in two years and I was very disappointed. The prices went way up and the portions got smaller. Service was good but then again it was after Labor Day so I'm not sure if it would have been as good during the summer time. The one food runner who was taking food into the bar area as we were walking in didn't even stop to let my mother waking with a cane and holding my hand to continue through. All other table servers were polite. Don't like having to ask for butter and condiments (i.e., tabasco sauce) for the food that you've ordered. She quoted us a 30-40 minute wait so we stayed and almost 2 HOURS, yes, almost 2 HOURS later our 5 top was finally sat. Always get crab dip- this day lots of stale chips & not enough chips. Surf & turf was very good even though asked for steak medium it was a medium rare, non the less very good. This Saturday my boyfriend took me to Bum Rogers to celebrate my 50th birthday.. The last time I had eaten here was probably about 20 years ago.. Waited at the hostess stand for quite some time while the staff hanging around by the kitchen glanced at us once in a while and finished their conversation. Finally someone took pity and sat us at a dirty table. We asked to be moved and were sat at another table that was so wobbly it almost tipped over. Our server told us that she was the only server for the entire dining room at that time, which meant she was taking care of about 15 tables. Our food arrived, the runner took off quick and we realized we had no utensils and my friend had no butter for her potatoes. I had to get up and find someone to help me out as our server was no where to be found and the food runners and bussers walk with their heads down, avoiding eye contact, ignoring any attempt to catch their attention. The food was ok but now on the cold side because we wanted to eat with knives and forks, not with our hands like we were at Medieval Times. Seems like the portions have shrunk but the prices went way up since I was there last year. The only reason I am giving this 2 stars is because our server was busting her butt and was very nice the few times we interacted with her. So glad I decided to come over to this restaurant during Father's Day to enjoy a nice meal after enjoying the beach. While we were told over the phone there was no estimate of when we would be seated and offered outdoor dining we decided to arrive anyway and we were pleasantly surprised they had a table for all 8 of us. I guess they figured not telling people the exact space available cut off a lot of potential extra people and waiting time. Our food was really great as well. My personal favorite were the Lobster tail combo and the Pretzel appetizers. The Pina Colada was a bit pricey but very delicious too. Our server was Jeff and was a great help in getting our orders correct and offering some great advice on what was really good on the menu. All of the food that we order was so good that we ordered more crab cake and pretzel appetizers which Jeff was gladly able to accommodate. After having some leftovers, we were glad they had a box for us to take the rest of our food to go for later. My only minor gripe is that the other servers weren't wearing masks but I guess its because now there's no mandate anymore but it would be a lot more safer having them wear it while serving our food since we still have 2 young masked children with our party that still haven't been vaccinated since they are under 12 and it's usually hard not to talk over food when bringing it to the table but hopefully the servers were vaccinated too. This was probably the most unsanitary and overpriced restaurant for the quality of food we received last night. I expect it to be busy and wait time was about 35 minutes which we don't mind for a restaurant we are trying on vacation and had a lot of good reviews . What I do expect is the table and chairs to be clean and not have tons of food including a lobster tail on the floor under your table. I think the waitress did the best she can but there would still be no excuse for not having cleanliness and sanitation. Someone should have cleaned the table and chair at least. We should have not had to wipe down our own table and silverware. We are the most understanding people, but this was unacceptable. The food , well we all had something different except for 3 out of 8 party. 4 out of 8 were very unhappy with the quality of the food and when you asked someone how they want it cooked and give them well over done, that's a problem . If I could give two and a half, I would have. First thing to know, you'll get rushed out off season if they don't know you personally. At least that's what we took from the experience. The food is passable, it's food-service grade prepared with little to no care. Decent, but then when you factor in price, it borders on poor. We expected that. However if you appreciate passion in food, if you can tell when a crew enjoys their work, if you can tell when an owner doesn't treat their establishment as a dividend, but as a labor of love, do not go to Bum Rogers. Also, if you don't like to sit at the bar for 20 minutes staring at an empty glass while there are 10 free seats at a 30 seat bar.... our server was inept. No other way to put it. That's where the two stars come in. She gave us ONE menu. She filled the drinks once promptly, then we sat for :30 with empty glasses while she did bussing and prep right in front of us. We sat AT THE BAR ON PURPOSE, WE LIKE OUR DRINKS. She fired our dinners seeming thirty seconds after the soup so we had cold dinners by the time we finished soup. Oh and my second White Russian, filled by a tall blonde was cream. That's it. No alcohol at all, I watched her mix, there might have been half a shot of kaluha. Maybe. The rip off on that drink was bad enough without having to stare at the melting ice for a half hour. Half afraid to risk another $8 glass of cream over ice. There are two explanations, either she was inept or rushing us out. A woman in her mid 40's? With long dark hair and I say this, because we spent $100+ on two dinners, a couple drinks and an app. Completely unacceptable, in fact just thinking about the experience has cause me to drop to two stars. Then the second bartender holding back the alcohol, or just again flaunting the general ineptitude of the joint. The staff were far more interested in each other than in their customers, and it showed, glaringly. In the end, it has the atmosphere of a place that makes so much in the summer and has so many local pro-alcoholic customers in the winter that they patently do not give a shit. That's their right, to run a business that way, but it's also our right to not ever go there again. I am confused by the popularity of this place. People wait 2 hours for expensive, mediocre seafood. I can only assume tourists don't know other restaurants exist on the island. I've been a few times over the years and the service has always been consistently bad. The wait staff and management give the impression that they get enough business not to worry about the quality of your experience. Flies are everywhere. It's not even like it has an open storefront that would make it an unavoidable issue. The windows are closed and it has a double door entryway, but it still manages to have a fly infestation.
