We love the atmosphere at bums. It really reminds you that you are at the beach. On the weekends they have live music which is always a good time. During the warmer months you can eat out side which is nice, and the food is usually good. I have never had a bad experience at bum rogers. read more

My husband and I unexpectedly had a sitter and a surprise date night. We wandered a bit looking for a non-chain restaurant. Thankfully we ended up at Bum Rogers!! Group of 10 ate here tonight. We had wings,shrimp both old bay and garlic, pizza,calamari,crab balls,tuna steak topped with a crab cream sauce over pasta. Place was packed, but we had a terrific waitress,Samantha,who saw to our every need. I would skip the crab balls and calamari,nextime. I was hoping it would be as good as I remember. It started with the waitress get my daughter drink wrong even though we repeated it back to her multiple times. Then asking for a straw for an 8 year old seemed like a huge task. Then came the apps...the pretzels and calamari were we think the best part of the meal. The pizza seemed like it was frozen. Then the meals...they served the lobster roll on a small plate with cole slaw that had so much liquid we had to use a knife and fork to eat the lobster role. Don't waste your money!!!!! Food is mediocre and the Service was horrible!!! Party of 6, (4) of the cooked appetizers were brought to the table and consumed. The clams on the 1/2 shell were brought out 10 minutes later. Appetizer plates were not removed until we requested the server, whom brought out dinner plates, and was put off by our request. The waitress spilled a plate of clam juice on my lap and never even apologized. Had empty drink glasses on table throughout most of the meal, no one ever checked to see if we wanted refills. read more

The lobster bisque is not award winning, progresso clam chowder taste better quality. They charge you for table bread, which was a little upsetting, but I respect their business choice. What I don't respect and what was more upsetting, the bread was stale. For an entree, I ordered the zuppa di pesce. It was pretty good, the pasta wasn't my favorite, I'd probably order it again. Jen our waitress was a great server, kept my drink full the whole night. I would come back here, it's a decent restaurant, just a little over priced for it's foods quality. Great! Not too fancy, but who needs that when you have great food, great drinks, friendly wait staff, and a nice, warm family-friendly environment to eat in? A lot of great beers on tap (just had the Sam Adams Cherry Wheat Ale...delicious) and amazing garlic crabs. I hadn't been back to Bum's in over 20 years, but wanted to relive an old haunt where I had so many great times... I don't think you can ever go home. The bar still seems as lively as I remember and we were out on a cool off season night, so it was nice to see a bit of a crowd this far down on the island. Dinner for 4 was barely OK. A run of the mill menu and nothing really special. Bum's is selling themselves as a crab-house now, but none of patrons we saw ordered crabs- it could also be a seasonal thing. Some places are better left to great memories and shouldn't be revisited, this is one of them. read more

I've made many trips over the past few years, including last week, to Bum's. You can't miss if you love seafood or prime rib. Personal favorites are the Steamers which they have year round as an appetizer - it's enough for 2 people, Stuffed Lobster, Ahi Tuna, scallops -- all great choices. Only one dish I did not like which was the lobster tail - whole lobster had more flavor so get that instead... Also, this is the only place that consistently makes great Long Island Ice Teas. Personally like sitting outside in the back.... Plan to wait up to an hour but worth it -- also you can go to the bar in or outside while you wait. read more

This used to be THE place to drink and eat in all of Seaside and it has just gone downhill so fast and far the last 10 plus years. To the point that it was for sale recently and when last there word was the place would not make it and get torn down for more condos. Thats too bad but they have done nothing to save the place as the food and service have been bad and the cost way too high for what you get. Used to be its dingy drab shore look was neat - now its just a sloppy dingy- dirty and noisy place that is not fun. You can do better-go to the Pier House or the Berkely Fish Market or even the Atlantic Bar & Grill. It's a typical seashore dive. It's not too clean, and the help is in dire need of training. The garlic crabs are good, and they usually have a lobster special. Happy hour is 4-6pm (might be 'till 7pm) so that's the best time to go. So, if you're in the area you may wish to visit. However, it's not worth going out of your way to find. read more

Very disappointed! Took 15 mins for someone to take our order. We sat behind the hostess station. Lucky us! We got to listen to how unprofessional the host and waitstaff was. I started to enter this restaurant when several people came out grumbling that no one would serve them. They were clearly angry. I should have listened because I waited 20 minutes while the entire wait staff partied at a neighboring table. No one addressed or acknowledged me. Had a beach day yesterday with the hubs, after looking at seafood joints on here decided on Bum Rogers! We ordered 6 Oysters, a cup of lobster bisque (the menu says it's their famous award winning soup, with good reason it was excellent,) the garlic crab appetizer, the broiled combo, and the seafood fra diavolo. Every single item we ordered was absolutely delicious! The oysters were ultra fresh, as were the garlic crabs. The crabs were a good size and had amazing flavor! The broiled combo was seasoned perfectly not overpowering, but not bland. The fra diavolo had an awesome kick to it and the calamari in it was not rubbery at all. We got it spicy, but you can also get it with a plain marinara. Our waitress was amazing, she's been there for 20 years and was such a sweetheart! She had an issue with the table next to us and handled it extremely well. The drinks were out of this world, if you're a martini person i Highly recommend the Vesper martini it was sooooo good! If you're ever in the area for the day or on vacation make sure to come here! I would suggest getting here earlier on, we showed up around 5:15pm and for two people had a 35 minute wait but it was well worth being patient for! Usually stop at Bums on the way out of Island Beach state park, when all I want is cold beer. They have a pretty good happy hour special between 3 and 7 on weekdays..$2 drafts and half price appetizers. My favorite is the fried flounder sandwich and prime rib..bar pies are nothing special. The penne vodka with shrimp and scallops was really good also, despite a sort of runny vodka sauce. But I guess you come to a place like this for fresh seafood, which they do well. There is usually a loud and very drunk group of local guys gathered at the far end of the bar during happy hour. I normally wouldn't mind this except when one of them is relentless about buying my 60 year old mother a shot of jack...Also the female bartenders are extremely unfriendly but I suppose you can't blame them. I will definatley make a point of trying the garlic blue crabs next summer...ahh..can't wait. read more

Nice local place that is pet friendly, we had a good time and good food. The Dutch (our coonhound) loved the food and atmosphere, and his meal was awesome, they bring water bowl when you arrive. It is your usual shore town seafood joint. The food was pretty good and reasonably priced. As someone who is allergic to shellfish, the choices were limited, but the prime rib was cooked to perfection. A friend got the special seafood gumbo, it came with shrimp and an entire crab.
