What is this? It is total awesomeness. It is Korean BBQ, delicious bulkogi, on top of crispy French fries--yeah that's right--cheese, spicy mayo (not too spicy), and sriracha sauce, all topped with green onions. Holy Moly, the K-pop fries with bulkogi was amazing. I don't know if they have kimchee to order on the side but next time I will definitely check because that would take this utterly indulgent dish to another level of awesomeness. Oh and the burger. Yes the Kalbi burger. It was a juicy patty with all the amazing flavors you would expect from a Korean inspired burger, and an egg--like in Bibimbop or a Korean soup. The buns were good and able to contain all of the juiciness from the burger without disintegrating. Bumblebee's is a genius idea for a restaurant and I'm so happy to have discovered it. read more

Basically the only thing I have ordered from Bumblebee's is the KPOP Fries. That is because they are just so crazy delicious that I can't NOT order them everytime! I had to stop here to pick up something for a Yelp event and decided to give this restaurant a try. The bulgogi kpop fries are as good as advertised. The fries have the best crunch and flavor and you can tell they are cut fresh and not frozen. The bulgogi meat was also good with the fries. All the sauces on the fries were amazing too. The heat was perfect, not too spicy, and just enough kick to keep me devouring the fries. My wife and I split the fries and the bibimbop. The bibimbop is a vegetarian dish and we started eating It before we realized there is a Korean chili sauce that was included. Once I added the sauce it took this dish to the next level. I liked this dish a lot but my wife just thought it was ok. I live too far for this to be a regular stop but if I'm in the area I'm definitely going to stop and try other dishes. I'd imagine everything would be good here. If I'm craving fries I may take the 45 minute just to have the Kpop fries again, they were that good. read more

It's not you, Bumblebees. It's me. Updating my review with some stars lost, not because they have changed. Sadly, I've changed, and the fact that 95% of the options here are fried or carb-based is no longer appealing. I stopped by for the first time in a while earlier this week. It was later in the evening, and after spending several unplanned hours visiting a friend in the hospital I was ravenous. I love their K-pop fries, covered with spicy mayo, Sriracha, bulgolgi (you can opt for pork or chicken instead), and bits of green onion. But if that was going to be half my dinner I needed an entree with an appreciable amount of actual nutrients to balance it out and, well, there aren't any. Their coleslaw is very good, but the serving is small, and laden with dressing. Honestly, I really just wanted a salad, or some sort of big bowl of vegetables. The two closest options were dup-bop or bee-bim-bop, but both dishes are still made up of half rice, plus the veggies that are included are coated in oil. I asked if either could be prepared without rice, but was told it wouldn't be very good as the vegetables would then be served cold. So I went with dup bop, which comes with a side of kimchi, and even the kimchi was oily, when traditionally it is simply fermented cabbage, peppers, and salt. Ugghhhh. Okay, I'll stop complaining now. The food, for what it is, is still very tasty: Along with my favorites mentioned above, the hamburgers are good, and offer traditional and creative Korean fusion options. Buns are better than average. Fries are fairly crispy. Hoduk (a sort of thick pancake with ice cream, only offered on Saturdays) is delicious, and even their cling wrapped brownies are decent. But really, how difficult is it to make fried food yummy? I hate to be THAT person, demanding a healthy option at what is basically a burger joint, but I think even just one really well done vegetable-based entree would be appreciated by others besides myself. I know they switched up their menu quite a bit when they first opened, as they got a feel for what their customers were seeking. Now they are resting on their laurels, and rightfully so as they've had great success, but tastes change, and clean eating is sort of the hip thing right now (how ridiculous does that sound?). There were no other customers for the entirety of my visit, so maybe make just a few updates to freshen things up and appeal to a wider audience. Or perhaps I'm just asking too much from an almost fast food restaurant, and that's fair. Other info: Price-wise, it's cheap, with entrees around $10 or under, sides and desserts at just a few bucks. I came back today for their $5.99 lunch specials (5 options listed below) with Meredith D, Ivane L, Xinmiao/Jenny L, and Ying Wai/Chris Y! Please read my previous review for a more thorough feedback on food & prices outside of lunch hours. Drink & fries with -first date -vampire burger OR drink with -loaded potatoes with meat (pulled pork, chopped brisket, grilled chicken) -pulled pork nachos -k-pop fries with bulgogi or spicy korean pork I asked for the k-pop fries double fried with spicy korean pork and fried kim chi (5.99 fries + 0.99 kim chi). It is exactly like it sounds...kpop fries with kim chi! the kpop fries itself are delicious just the way they are and adding the kim chi added an extra dimension to the fries! It's just the amount of kim chi was sparse, and it seemed like with the kim chi, there was less pork. Given that it was an extra $1 cost, it's not really worth it to trade off pork for a bit of kim chi. It was pretty good just to try, but I probably won't care to order it again. Again, the dessert was the downside of the meal. I got the chocolate brownie this time, and it was as hard as a biscotti! I started jokingly knocking it on the table, and it knocked hard. Meredith tried to break it, and it took quite a bit of effort due to its hard texture. Sweet Jenny had told the cashier about this, and she very kindly replaced it with a much better cut...one that was moist (but still not very good)! The cashier also apologized about it many times, and it was evident that she really cares! Tip 1: Ask for fries to be double fried or extra crispy and that will produce freshly hand-cut fries that are crispier on the outside and soft on the inside! Tip 2: Ask for the loyalty stamp cards! Ehhh....not sure what the hype is for this place to have 4.5 stars except that it's different than from the norm here. FOOD: I ordered the bulgogi tacos and the Kim chi rice balls. The tacos were a little on the sweet side and I was expecting heat. I added extra jalapeño peppers and sriracha. Decent meat-veggies-tortilla ratio, but I wouldn't get another taco here. The Kim chi rice balls were a cool idea. I saw this first on food network watching the Great Food Truck Race where Seoul Sausage made it a hit. The crunchy shell and soft Kim chi rice inside was a nice texture,however, I'm missing the Kim chi flavor. Boo. I wanted to try the k-pop fries but I knew it would be too much food. Food: Guys this place is DIFFERENT and really good. We've never heard of having Korean fusion in SLC but this place nailed it. We got K-Pop fries (Korean bugogi on fries), Mr. Kim burger (Kimchi), Katsu burger (Chicken katsu), and they had an impeccable unique flavor and were all very delicious!! They brought out kimchi fried rice balls on the house when we sat down and we also had a free dessert check in off Yelp. Seriously nothing like this in SLC and it's a GOOD change to have something so unique. Our meal for all of this was only $21 so it's great value for your money and you won't be unhappy. We were stuffed to the brim and the food was just an amazing change in flavor compared to anything else here in the valley. This is highly highly recommended to check out on unique food and flavor alone! Service: These guys were so so SO NICE!! They came and checked on us after we sat down which is not super typical of fast dining. They brought out additional food for us to try on the house and they were very welcoming. After reading Tyler P.'s review I had to come in and try this place. I am not sure what kind of sauce they put on his tacos, but they certainly didn't put it on mine. I think that if I am getting tacos, next time I will go to the taco cart around the corner. That being said, my meal was pretty good and I would like to venture back and try some different items. On this pioneer voyage to Bumblebees, I was able to try the Yangstar Wings, Bulgogi Tacos and Kimchi Rice Balls. Here is the breakdown: Yangstar Wings - Think Winger's wings. Sticky thick and sweet sauce with a little spice. You will need lots of napkins and wet naps for these. Or you could just try licking your fingers clean like I did. Probably my favorite of the bunch. Order came with 7 wings/drumsticks that were on the small side. Not super meaty but the sauce was good. It came with a little green onion salad. Bulgogi Tacos - Lets preface this that maybe I am more of a purist then I thought I was? The tacos had way too much going on here. Spicy chili sauce, spicy mayo, lettuce, bulgogi, scallions, did I see tomato chunks? The bread was a weird thick bready tortilla. Two large tacos filled the order. The bulgogi itself was pretty good. Kimchi Rice Balls- Technically, these balls were fried to perfection. A crisp, stab your tongue, panko breading fried perfectly. Not greasy at all and the whole ball was warmed perfectly through. Think of a Korean version of the Italian arancini. However, the flavor fell flat and I didn't have any kimchi come through the rice mixture. I found a couple little tiny chucks of meat mixed in them. It was covered in spicy chili sauce and spicy mayo. I think my biggest turnoff here was the special mayo sauce. It made everything taste like a cheap sushi roll. It seems to be on a lot of items here. Also, I would have liked to see some more Korean or other hot sauces out with the other condiments. This is K town too, right? On the plus side, the service was quick and efficient and the lunch crowd wasn't too bad. I found the dessert choices of brownies or pecan pie were a bit odd. Make sure to check in on Yelp and get a free dessert. I chose pecan pie and I chose right. It was fabulous. That elevated this review to 4 stars right there boy! read more

The K-pop fries are delicious! Crispy fries covered in spicy sauce, chives, bulgogi beef/spicy pork and cheese. They really hit the spot. You can get them half bulgogi and half spicy pork, both are super good, but I like the spicy pork the best. I also tried the fried kimchi balls, and they were super good. Really crunchy on the outside and tender cheesy rice on the inside. Everything is pretty reasonably priced and a good lunch deal too. This place is pretty divey, but has a great feel. read more

Bumblebee's offers a type of Asian Fusion that I've never had before, and I like it! This is a super casual fast food type of joint where you order right at the counter and they bring your food out to you. Service is very quick, friendly and informative. I couldn't decide between the burger with kimchi or the Kalbi burger, so I asked to have kimchi with the Kalbi. It was so full of flavor that it was almost overwhelming, but in a good way. I'll probably stick with one or the other next time though. I also tried the KPop fries with spicy pork and bulgogi which I thought were tasty. I'm hoping to try their tacos next, so I'll definitely be back! read more

KPOP fries were good. Extremely heavy but full of flavor, spicy and sweet. Wings were hot and fresh but flavor was bit my favorite. I don't know if my expectations were really high because of reading the reviews or if I just caught them at a bad time but overall less than great. Eh, I hate leaving reviews that aren't 4 or 5 stars, but this place gets 3. We sampled several things off the menu, $70 worth and nothing was inspiring or memorable. None of the flavors blew me or my family away. Now, if you're totally craving that Japanese/Korean sort of flavor and can't get it out of your head, and you're close by, this place may be a decent hold over until you can get to a real fusion restaurant. We visited Bumblebee's on a Saturday night around 8pm. There was a small family finishing up and another person waiting for a to go order. The parking is slightly confusing as the restaurant is nearly connected to some sort of apartment duplex. Anyway the decor is interesting. I wasn't really sure what to expect. Very casual. We ordered to go. It only looked like there were 3 staff members. There is a dessert box filled with brownies and maybe it was pecan pie to the left of the register and it does not look fresh at all. I wasn't feeling adventurous so I had the regular chicken strips and my husband had the K-pop fries with Bulgogi meat. They were loaded up, plenty of meat, nice presentation, and quality taste. My chicken was okay, nothing amazingly special, but okay. The ranch dip it came with was tasty also. Overall it was an alright place, I'm not particularly stuck on returning, but it wasn't bad. Really enjoyed everything there tonight! I got Katsu (pork) and my hubby got the beef sandwich and we shared the K-pop fries, which were awesome. My only complaint was a the price but after we started digging in, I decided it was definitely well worth it. Every was a perfect balance of sweet and spicy, plus its kinda nice that you don't have to bother them for sauces. Also on the way out I ordered the curry riceballs which surprised me cause they were fried, but also delicious. Would definitely go again. read more

I didn't take pictures of everything we ordered because we snarfed it down too fast! The kimchi rice balls were yummy! The k-pop fries are so flavorful! I've taken clients, colleagues and family here many times and the people I bring are pleasantly surprised by how much they enjoyed the food. Katsu Burger (Homemade Korean style breaded and deep-fried pork or chicken topped with Katsu sauce, cheese, onions, tomatoes and lettuce): I'd been wanting to try this for a while. I'm not sure what their katsu burger/sandwich sauce is made of, but it's not what I'm used to - namely, Bulldog Tonkatsu sauce mixed with Kewpie mayonnaise. I had to wait for the sauce taste to kick in, and when it did, I was left wanting something else. That said, everything on the burger was fresh. I also ordered half and half onion rings and fries, and was a bit surprised that both were on the non-crispy, flimsy side. Nothing overly serious, but I was surprised, because all of my previous fry/onion ring orders have been quite good. I believe their burgers are 1/4 lb. But really if your going to come here, go Korean. Save the burgers for somewhere else. I got the Bulgogi-gogi! Their version of the Philly Cheese Steak. Marinated Korean beef BBQ, mozzarella cheese, sautéed veggies, jalapeño mayo, sarracha and sweet sauce on a grilled bun. A really phenomenal taste combination. The sweetness of the veggies and beef paired with the hot sauces and spicy mayo were perfect. THE TIP: Come for the Korean fusion, go Korean when you order. If you're from SoCal, the outside of Bumblebee's reminded me of somewhere in Santa Ana, and the inside reminded me of Albertaco's. It seems so out of place, but their food is pretty good and they somehow make it work! Very interesting combination of Korean/American fusion. The gentleman working was so friendly and helpful, giving us recommendations and suggestions. -Mr. Kim burger: beef burger with lettuce, tomato, cheese, fried egg, and kimchi. Great combination! but not incredibly impressed. Great value for what they give you though! It's a pretty filling burger -K pop fries: We got bulgogi as our meat topping. Also comes with cheese, sriracha mayo and green onions. Their version of carne asada fries! Definitely reminded me of it. I didn't really like the meat though :/ it didn't taste like korean bbq and was a little dry. Overall, my impression was that I could make this at home if I really wanted to. The flavors seemed simple, but I loved the creativity of all their items on the menu! It's just a matter of whether you want to put this together yourself! And most times you don't. The texture of the tender pork mixed with the slight crunch of the veggies made each bite a wonderful experience. When I asked for a recommendation, the cashier gave me a variety of his favorites from the menu. The food also came out in such a timely manner. They add the perfect amount added...enough to taste it, but not too much so that it's overwhelming. -K-pop fries: I actually got this as an upgrade for my mr. Kim burger combo. I believe it was $1.50 upgrade...totally worth it! The fries are nice and crispy even after sitting for a bit and it comes with plenty of bugogi for every bite. -Bugolgi tacos ($6.99): To be honest these were good, but a little on the pricey side. For $7 I only got two decent sized tacos. However the quality of the meat and the tortilla was all great but I feel like $5-6 would be more reasonable. Still tastes great though! Came here for the second time with friends because they wanted to try this place out. The idea of fusion food is really popular and this place is a fusion between Korean and western. Also they have a promotion that if you check in here you get free dessert which was a brownie for me. When you first walk on you get hit with all the flavorful smells. The cashier person was super friendly and very patient with explaining some of the food there. The concept was really interesting. I ordered the kalbi burger. The party was super juicy, but for me it tasted like just a regular beef burger. The taste was really good. I also tried their kpop fries. One with chicken and the one with bulgogi. My favorite one was the fries with bulgogi. There was so much flavor going on in every bite, I loved it. I think this place is worth the try and it's delicious.
