I was on a road trip with the family was hungry and wanted to try something local and was not impressed. I had the steak sandwich with deep fried mushrooms. The wife and kids had burgers and fries/onion rings. I took 3 bites off of my sandwich and with each bite had to pull the sandwich to because the cut of meat was not that good and the deep fried mushrooms were gritty. I ended up throwing away $10 of food. My oldest did not finish his fries, first time I've seen that happen. Great place to stop and get some amazing burgers if you're in the Flagstaff, Az area. It's a gem of a place, just looking at all the antiques hanging on the walls will occupy your short wait while they cook up your food. *I'll preface this by saying i was pretty drunk from the free happy hour hosted by the embassy suites across the street! There were maybe 6 people in there on a monday night when the wife and I rolled into bun huggers. I got the "philly hug" which had a nice char broiled taste. The onion rings were also nice and crunchy. The prices were pretty good for the "touristy" area we were in. Burgers were good and have a nice charcoaled flavor, buns were super fresh, fries are fresh cut and delicious. The staff is super friendly and helpful. Really nice that they have a toppings bar with all the fixings for your burger. I'd eat here again if I were a local. read more

I was forced to give this place one star. They truly deserve NONE. The staff is super rude. We brought our entire team after a game, but when our coach showed up at 941, they refused him service. The sign on the door says they close at 10... Does the owner know they turn business away 20 minutes before close. It was a shame that our entire team could not enjoy dinner together! It is so sad to see a locally owned business like Bunhuggers making all the mistakes they did. The business environment is tough out there, but how a business deals with that environment is what will make or break it in the long run. Visiting Flagstaff for the first time, I spotted Bunhuggers while at a traffic light and thought it would be a great local place to eat. The menu is simple, nothing too complicated. But the pricing and the quality of the food are terrible. All items are a la carte, why oh why do they not have a combo on the menu? The hamburger was good, but just good not outstanding like it could easily be. I saw the "chef" pressing the burger everytime he engaged it, which is a big no-no. For a char-grilled hamburger to be good, you turn it once, and only once and you NEVER press the meat with the spatula. I also ordered a side of onion rings which, at $3.59 per order, I expected to be fresh cut and hand battered. Wrong. Their onion rings are frozen, and the oil is apparently not hot enough because the rings were gummy, bland and just plain tasteless. (The onion rings cost more than the burger did!) On to the condiments table, because you are made to dress your own burger which made me wonder just what the function of the three people behind the counter was if all they are doing is throwing frozen food into the deep fryer. The condiments table has the ketchup, mustard and mayo in open condiment pans, with ladles for service. The second I picked up the mayo ladle, meat chips from another customers burger were plainly evident, and a total gross out. How LONG had the meat chips been there? You do not serve condiments in this fashion in the 21st century. For the prices you are charging, you buy pumps, and you clean them daily. Overall the cleanliness of the restaurant left a lot to be desired as well. It has been there awhile, and not updated. Which is OK if you maintain the dining room and at a minimum keep it clean. The bar area in front of the drink dispensers is disgusting, with caked on grease a quarter of an inch thick (no exaggeration), the protective glass around the grill hasn't been properly cleaned in a decade, and grease build-up is evident on the customer side of the window, as well as the counter. So sad to see an establishment address higher costs simply by raising the menu prices, while never addressing the quality of the food, its preparation or the physical aspects of the dining room. This is a place I would never set foot into again. Bunhuggers is pricing itself out of existence. read more

No greeting, dont know where to order. My son and I. The order taker/broiler cook (uh, you handle money, dont wash hands, then cook???) Looked less than thrilled to be there, didn't explain the menu at all (sides are not included). Got a big hug/little hug. The buns are the worst, cheapest things ever. The burger (1/2 lb) was burned, and obviously had been squashed of all its juices- the condiment table was a filthy mess- $21 for two burgers and two sides? The burger was 3/10, the fried zuc's were breaded terribly, the chili cheese fries were all chili, and the fries werent even done all the way. After reading the reviews, it seems there is an ongoing theme with this place: Barely edible food, and a filthy restaurant that should be shut down until properly cleaned. After being in the industry at many restaurants for over 14 years, if it looks this bad 'out front' - you don't want to know whats lurking in the back. Shame. read more

Super disappointed tonight after previously being extremely happy with this place. We arrived to the place right before it closed and we asked if they were still serving and were told yes. We wait to order and a very rude employee barely acknowledged us and said "we stopped serving" as he was walking away not once really acknowledging our presence. It was our last stop out of Flag on our way back to Phoenix. It was Superbowl Sunday and the place was pretty packed with locals. I didn't know what to make of this place as there arn't any fix it yourself burger shops in phoenix. I ordered a cheese burger and salad. What was so nice about this place is that the burgers are freshly made, and that they haven't been sitting for hours in a warmer. You can make your burger just as you want it. You can have more kecthup if you like, as much as your heart pleases! If you want cucucmbers on it, or jalapenos it's your choice and your descretion on how much. Everything was fresh and soooo good. Since it was more of a serve yourself kinda place I don't have much to say about service, for the exception that the cashier was kinda snooty, and full of herself. The atmosphere was cool, like a woodsy T.G.I. Fridays or something. They had plenty of TV's to watch from every view to see the game. We actually hung out for a litle bit after eating to thaw out from being on the mountain all day. We will definetely return here again. read more

I am not going to tell you about what everyone else already has. What I am going to do is tell you about the customer service experience I most recently had. Even though It had been way too long since I last enjoyed a burger here I was welcomed like a life long regular customer. I wanted to purchase a T-Shirt as a reminder of my visit, but they didn't have one in my size. They offered me both a hoodie and t-shirt for the price of the shirt if I would take them in a smaller size. I told them than no one wanted to see me in a shirt that was even a little bit too small. He took my name and address an told me that he not only would send on in my size, but refused to let me pay for it. The shirt arrived in the mail today. Food is terrible everything was burned and when I had them remake it they were burned again . nasty dirty and the staff is young and obviously doesn't care the place stinks Like dirty wash rags . Definitely NOT HEALTH food as burger joints go but they do serve a meanly delicious charbroiled burger (high fat content) with your choice of oily fried vegetable like zucchini, mushrooms etc. I don't recommend you eat here often but when you crave a charbroiled burger fixed YOUR WAY, this is the place to go. They also serve beer here so you can wash all that cholesterol down with some suds! I generally go back 2-3 times a year for my fix. Try the 1/2 lb burger with ham & bacon and cheddar on top to maximize the effect. It's GOood! read more

On our travels, at the advice of our hotel receptionist, we tried this place. Save your money. We ordered a philly steak sandwich with fries, I checked in with the grill after 20 min, about 30 minutes later we got a slab of steak on an untoasted bun, nothing else and late greasy fries, which is how they appear to be served. When told of the error I assume the floor manager said, well that's what we charged you for. To be fair, those who enter ordering hamburgers seem to be happy, service was much quicker, and they appear to want fries dripping in grease. read more

We've enjoyed going to Bun Huggers over the years...a fun Flagstaff burger. But tonight we went, and while the food was just fine, they charged us $1.89 for a glass of WATER!!! And get this: they offer "free" water if you use one of the disposable plastic cups, but if you use one of their actual glasses, it costs $1.89, the same price as a large soft drink. Even considering the cost of running the dishwasher, the throw-away cups have to cost more than the reusable ones...does not make sense and feels punitive and ridiculous. Greatly Disappointed........We moved to Flagstaff and still trying to eat at all the restaurants.Bun Huggers has been raven about by the locals. So tonight I finally was able to go. We ordered the Bun Hugger and Mushroom& Swiss with fries and the zucchini and onion ring combo. The burgers were okay but the buns crumbled and quickly soggy half way of eating. The fries were mostly burnt and dry. The zucchini was super salty so I thought that maybe the if I took off the breading that would eatable but I was wrong. That the zucchini it self was salty. The onion rings were the only item that was finished. When I told the workers about my comments they weren't interested about it. Like they know the food isn't that great. As for the self service bar it looked messy and unsanitary. The lettuce was wilted and brown. The onion was slimy. The Lighting of the restaurant was helpful in masking what you were eating. I don't think I'll ever come back that this place. I noticed that it has a connecting bar so maybe this would be great food if your drunk and don't realize what your eating. read more
