My wife and kid and I came here recently for a weekend lunch after a hard day of setting up our outdoor vegetable garden. We had a pleasant meal. I was in the mood for a burger and knew about the Burger Bar but had never tried it. The restaurant is attached to Gallo's Seafood like an addition with plenty of tables and a nice outdoor covered garage area which is where we sat as we got to choose and it was nice and breezy outdoors. The menu has the regular burgers and pizza, salads, plenty of appetizers and some delicious sounding cocktails. They also have regular and boozy milkshakes. I went with a boozy vanilla with Yuengling and Jack Daniels Honey. My kid had the Salted Caramel. Waters all around. We split the onion rings and mozzarella sticks. Both fried nicely, the mozzarella sticks were bigger than most you see. They came with a small dish of the restaurant's tomato sauce which had some peppers in there! The onion rings were very thin with the breading falling off most but were still crunchy and tasty with the two sauces offered. My wife also had a cup of shrimp and crab bisque. The thick soup "has a kick" and was quickly eaten. The three burgers we ordered were a regular, a BBQ, and I had the fancy Gruyère cheese. They each come with "spuds" which are really waffle fries. They were nice to ask if we wanted the seasoning which none of us did. The burgers were filling and juicy. The only negative about them was that they all had no pink and we ordered them all to be medium rare. They ended up on the burner a bit too long. But the toppings on each were good and the spuds were very good just coming out of the fryer. Our server was very attentive and on top of keeping us happy. The restaurant and bathrooms were nice and clean. $105 for three adults not including tip for two appetizers, one soup, a boozy and a plain milkshake, and three burgers. Today we had some Harv's Burger Bar rewards that were about to expire. So Lunch at the Burger Bar it was. Today I was torn between my go to chicken sammy and a burger. The Smokehouse won out and wow are those calories worth every bite! Juicy flavorful handcrafted patty with onion straws and bbq sauce (I get mine on the side) added some tomato and lettuce today and I wasn't disappointed. Cooked to the perfect medium rare - Harv's always gets it right. His BB Classic was equally as satisfying. Harv's burgers aren't for the weak - Dave up your daily calorie allotment and bring your appetite. As always the staff is friendly and attentive. We were told that family was in town and they were going to be here for the Eagles game last Sunday. We decided to stop by for a few drinks before starting the plans we had for the evening. Large private parking lot with lots of parking available which was great! There is a separate entrance to the burger bar so you so not have to walk through the attached restaurant, although you can if you would like to. After squeezing in at the bar with our group we were able to sit when two spots opened up. The bartender was awesome and working alone with a large crowd and also handled food orders. The Burger Bar is located in the back part of the same building that houses Gallo's Restaurant. There is a separate entrance in the back and there is access to the seafood restaurant from inside the burger bar. I stopped in for a lunch with a coworker and beat the crowd, so we had our choice of seating. The small patio facing the parking lot seemed nice and private, there is also table and bar seating. The server was very nice and kept tabs on us. He highly recommended the Smokehouse Burger - Smoked, Bacon, Crispy Onion Strings, House Barbecue Sauce and Cheddar at $15. I believe he mentioned they are 8 oz. burgers and the menu states they are "fresh house ground certified angus chuck, hand pressed" and are served with a side of sea spuds (house fries seasoned with old bay). The tap list featured around a dozen different beers. They had a couple of craft handles. The wait was brutal. 30 minutes to get two burgers out was beyond annoying. I'm not sure what the staffing situation was, but the bar was almost empty and the restaurant was about a quarter full. (you walk by the seafood restaurant if you make a pit stop to the bathroom). When the burgers arrived they were pretty darn tasty. The flavors went well together and the burger itself was cooked to my liking. Juicy but not greasy drippy meat, decent bun, legit crispy onion strings (the store bought ones repeat on me these did not!) and tasty bacon. The bun and toppings held together well and didn't slide around. The waffle fries aka sea spuds were ok, seasoned well and the cheese sauce was a great companion to them. Overall, I'd return hoping that the wait we encountered was an anomaly. The server was very apologetic. In this area of Philly I'm not sure you'll find a much better burger! read more

Came in with my mom and sister for dinner and we were seated right away. We had a taste for burgers and my sister another Yelp Elite was raving about the Burger Bar. The service was really friendly and helpful and they checked on us often making sure we had enough napkins, and refills on our drinks. When it came to the burgers, they were huge! and so juicy and flavorful. I had a burger with bbq sauce on top, fronions and bacon, my mom had a burger that had shredded roast pork on top with mushrooms, onions and bbq sauce. The burgers were dripping and cooked perfectly. the first couple of time we ate here the burgers were delicious. Not so anymore. After waiting almost 45 minutes for 2 burgers cooked medium, we were served two overdone burgers, so overdone that the bottoms of them were so burnt we had to cut that portion of the burger off. When the waitress finally came to ask us how everything was we had already been sitting for over an hour and didn't feel like waiting another 45 minutes for new burgers. Not a bad spot. I was craving a good burger and this met our expectations. The Waffle Parmesan fries wasn't bad either. The lemonade wasn't too sweet or tart. Our server was pleasant, and the food came out farely quick. I even tried the Adult Bourbon milkshake. Very good. Pricing is reasonable for a "gourmet burger". Even had the option of eliminating the bun and serving your burger on lettuce. My only disappointment was the cleanliness. We came mid day where there was no customers but still was greeted with dirty seats and tables. Crumbs on the seats and stained tables gave us an initial bad 1st impression. This place was a great surprise: juicy burgers in the Northeast! And since No. 3rd is just too far away and not practical for kids, this is good news. Granted it's a bit expensive after ordering a 7 or 8 dollar burger and some beers (like $80 for family of 4), it's nice to know it's there if I want a burger and a beer. I ordered my usual burger fav: medium patty with cheddar, bacon and even threw on a sunny side up egg. YUM. The fries were awesome. The decor was great too.....just dark enough for the cool lighting to set the mood, trendy, modern. It was like going to center city without having to go to center city. They had a faux fireplace (digital??) in the corner that I thought was really nice. This place was decorated well enough that it's great for taking out the kids for a nice meal or having a romantic, intimate dinner on a date. Kids enjoyed their burgers, of course, well...my little one decided he didn't want to eat, but what do you want, he's 3. lol I recommend ordering minimal sides of fries (they don't come with your burger) because two people can usually share one order and as we all know, fries don't make great leftovers. Five stars for being the only burger joint of this caliber in the northeast, as far as I know. I was sorely disappointed with my visit to Burger Bar. Being in a convenient area and having overall decent reviews made me think this would be a good place for a somewhat casual dinner. Yeah, it's casual, but the food leaves a lot to be desired. Also, with the word bar in the name, one would think the bar would be a serious focal point of the establishment. Their tap list is beyond disappointing and they only offer four beers on draft. You have to be more competitive in today's market, since even chain restaurants usually serve more beer than that. They had some bottles as well but almost all were domestic and the vast majority of them were macro brews. They have mixed drinks but honestly a burger needs a side of beer, not a fruity girl drink. The prices are frankly outrageous. All the burgers are over ten dollars a piece and don't even include any sides. Fries will cost extra, so much so that it hardly seemed worth it to order them. I was very underwhelmed by my burger, too. It was kind of dry, kind of bland, just very forgettable. My fiancé said his own burger was decent, but nothing amazing. I won't be returning here, which was not the outcome I wanted, because I was glad to find a burger place not far from me. That being said, I think the fact that it's really owned by Gallo's (a seafood restaurant) is what hurts this place. They should stick to the surf and stay away from the turf. read more

I stopped here with my party of 4 for a quick bite to eat while doing some Christmas shopping. We were seated as soon as we walked it since there were plenty tables available. Service was just ok, it would have been a little better if our server wasn't doubling as a bartender. He seemed a bit over worked juggling both sides. Rather than wait for our drink refills we opted on walking up to the bar instead of waiting on the server. The food was pretty good! I ordered the classic burger and the table shared fries and onion rings. The onion rings were excellent but the zesty onion ring sauce had a kick to it. I think they may have gone a bit overboard on the horseradish. My burger was really under cooked which was a bit of a turn off but it was juicy and did have a nice flavor. 3.5 Stars Pretty good burgers. They're a decent size. They cooked it how I asked. It was filling and satisfied my Burger craving. We also got the special Cajun Waffle fries with the cheese sauce. I'd suggest sticking to the normal waffle fries. The Cajun one didn't really stand out; save a couple bucks. What I didn't like was the fact that I entered through the Burger Bar entrance and there was no hostess desk or anyone to help you. Even while standing there, waitresses walked passed and saw us, but didn't try to even help out. One of the worst feelings coming into a new place to eat is walking in and standing lost, not knowing what you're supposed to do. Seat yourself? Wait for someone? We even walked through the whole place, entered through the doors to Gallo's, as employees from both restaurants watched, walked to Gallo's hostess stand and asked to be seated at the Burger Bar. They proceeded to tell us to go to the Burger Bar and be helped. Well no one wanted to help us when we were standing there for five minutes... I love finding good places to eat around me where the food is good, the price is reasonable and the drive isn't too far. This wasn't the case. Ordered the seafood bisque, the cheeseburger and the wings. The wings came first, first bit and a flavor of raw chicken filled my mouth. The chicken was taken back to the fryer, some prices came back ok while the others were way over cooked... that thing happens when you cook 2 different sizes of chicken pieces. One tiny and skinny and the other bulky. The burger was cooked to order and was cooked pretty well, it didn't taste like anything great but the dryness of the bun, lack of any sauce, the old vegetables and the fact the bun was WAY too big for the burger, made it one of the worst. The bisque was actually great, very tasty and with great texture. I would mention that they made a mistake with my bill and over charged me but this can happen everywhere. A delicious burger spot in Northeast Philly! Burgers are juicy and delicious and I love that they have a "no carb" version without the buns. Although I thoroughly enjoyed my classic cheeseburger, I have to say the winner for me was their onion rings. My two friends and I orders a side of onion rings and a side of fries to share but it was enough for all 3 of us to eat as a meal alone! The onions rings we so delicious I could snack on them all day...and actually we had so much I had to take them home and did snack on them again! The service here is very friendly and quick. I had no problems enjoying a relaxed sit down lunch and still get back to the office within my lunch hour. This place is a joke. I hate to start the review off like this but it really is. We stopped in tonight because we wanted a good burger. We figured the burger bar would be the spot, unfortunately we were wrong. I hate to bash a place like I'm about to but they deserve it. Now we eat out often. Maybe 3-4 nights a week. The service here is terrible! Some of the worst we've had. The server was nice, just not a very good waitress. We were sat out on the patio area. We were the only table on the patio and the restaurant itself only had 3 or 4 tables occupied. We waited 45 minutes for 2 burgers and an order of mozzarella sticks for our daughter. It's absurd! We watched 2 couples arrive, eat and leave before we received our food. The burgers are below average. I'm shocked at all of the good reviews. The best part was my bun, it was fresh and toasted well. My wife's burger bun was so soggy when she picked it up it literally turned to mush in her hands. We both ordered the classic burger. The onions were caramelized nicely and the toppings were so so. We ordered both burgers medium and they were way over cooked! They both came out well done. If you're going to call yourself a burger bar, cook a better burger! I've had better from 5 guys. They don't serve fries or chips with their burgers either. We ordered a side of salt and keeper waffle fries. Literally no seasoning on the fries (look at picture). Now finally our daughters mozzarella sticks. What 5 year old doesn't like them? They looked good and fresh when they came out but that was deceiving. My daughter kept saying they taste funny. I tried them and they had such a fishy taste to them. Like they were fried in the same oil as all of the fish. I asked the server if they use the same kitchen as Gallo's, of course she said no. If not then they need to change the oil. The fried cheese legit tasted like shrimp, it was gross. After waiting 45 minutes for our food. We had to ask for refills, napkins and silverware. Not even out of the parking lot of burger bar and I was compelled to draft my frustrations with this place. First of all, we went as a party of three on a Tuesday night and there were not that many people inside (it could have gone either way..a bad or good thing). We were directed to seat ourselves so we sat. Don't get me wrong, the server was a nice person but maybe they are still learning the ropes. It took them awhile to ask us about drinks and bring them over. I wasn't very hungry this night so I ordered the kid's cheeseburger (which on the menu says it comes with small fries and a kid's beverage). The menu says the default cook temperature is medium but I asked and the server informed me that medium rare was an option as well. My one friend got the smokehouse medium and the other ordered the burger bar special also medium. We got a plate of waffle fries to share. The restaurant is still pretty empty but the food took forever. When the food finally came out, I was surprised to see that the kid's cheeseburger was the same size as the regular burger, just without the toppings (it's no wonder kids are obese these days..). I cut my cheeseburger in half, and it is in fact cooked medium well..(I bare through it because I do not trust them to recook it without repercussions). The meat patty itself is bland and tasteless. Ketchup is clearly my friend. Fries were okay. The best part of the meal..was the barbecue sauce on the smokehouse burger, which was cooked closer to medium rare then medium BTW. When we get the bill, I noticed that they charged me for the kid's beverage. I comment to the server what the menu says and the server informs me that they had to charge me for the drink (which was the same price as an adult size drink but only in the dinky kiddie cup) because I was in fact, not a child. Well, nowhere in the menu states that the kid's menu is strictly for certain aged customers and the server made no mention of such restriction. (They apologized after the fact which doesn't do me any good). Terrible overall and my friends felt sick shortly after. I guess it was a blessing in disguise getting the med well/well done burger. The menu listed on their website is about $4 less per burger. The pricing listed through the Yelp link is almost half the cost of the burger's current cost. When my wife said something, she was told they will tell the people who do that and was handed a current menu. One person told her they can't control all content on the web. True, but they can control the pricing listed on their own webpage and the menu linked to the largest restaurant review site out there. No offer was made to even correct the situation. My Dad and I stopped in here while in the area for an appointment. I saw the positive reviews and figured it was worth the short drive. This place is actually located in the back of Gallo's Seafood. The atmosphere is nothing special, but that's not what we came for. We started with the Mozzarella Sticks which were fried golden brown and stuffed with cheese - perfect. They were tasty, and I really enjoyed the sauce that they were served with. It was a regular marinara, but had lots of flavor. We also got the Salt & Pepper Waffle Fries, which were nothing special but they were good enough fries. For my main, I got the Smokehouse Burger - smoked bacon, crispy onion strings, BBQ sauce and cheddar. The toppings were loaded on - no skimping here, and that's just the way I like it. The BBQ sauce and everything about this burger was flavorful. Cooked perfectly to medium. We enjoyed our meal here and both left satisfied. I visited last night for the second time to celebrate my mother-in-law's birthday. We arrived around 7:30 and it was definitely crowded, but our party of 4 had no problem being seated immediately. Our server greeted us immediately and took our drink orders. We ordered some beers and looked over the menu. I hadn't noticed it before, but the lobster mac & cheese from the attached Gallo's restaurant also appears on the Burger Bar menu, which my MIL promptly ordered. I ordered the crab cake sandwich and my husband and sister in law each ordered burgers. We also got two orders of those amazing garlic parmesan fried for the table. Just like my last visit, everything was really delicious, piping hot, and perfectly cooked. I could not have been happier with my meal and, judging by the silence at the table, my fellow diners agreed. This place definitely really has my attention for their consistency, and I'm once again thrilled that we have a place like this so close to home. We drove by Gallo's seafood ( Roosevelt blvd & Solly NE Philly) on our way home and noticed a nice big catchy sign out front. BURGER BAR NOW OPEN. The Burger bar is attached to Gallo's seafood and it's around back on the side. We were hungry and I adore burgers like I adore air. So I figured Gallo's has been there, forever, lets give it a shot. Though I didn't have much hope since it's part of a seafood restaurant. Well I'm amazingly glad we stopped by. The decor is very nice. Modern and something never expected, let alone in the North East. In Center City or Old city yes. Not up here, so near to our house. All ready I was excited and didn't even taste anything yet. The place was empty, ( It just opened a few days ago) but we were greeted warmly and seated right away. The decor really blew me away. We quickly decided on our food. We started with the buffalo wings. They were exccccellent ( as Mr.Burns would say) Perfectly crispy and well coated with a zippy sauce. Very good blue cheese as well. Chunky. The burgers shortly arrived after scarfing the wings down. My wife had the low carb burger wrapped in bib lettuce. She loved it. I had the 5 napkin burger which sat on a house baked brioche bun. WOW it was perfect. Plus bun to meat ratio was spot on. Now the main event, the meat. Again it is house ground sirloin and loosely packed cooked over cast open flame grill. Juicy, perfectly seasoned. The burger was pure perfection. Nothing to nit pick over. The bacon crispy and lots of it. Winner. Cheese gooey and over flowing. The egg I ate separately, not to mask the flavors with the sunny side egg. Even that was great. This burger ranks in my top 2-3 EVER. Did I mention how F**KING AWESOME it was. The garlic Parm fries were tasty, but would have liked a bit more garlic and some grease ( I like fries a tad greasy). Next time I will try the onion rings and maybe one of those tasty sounding shakes. I did speak with the owner on the way out and he was a burger connoisseur as well. I'll take this spot over Gallo's every day of the week. The menu is small, but packs a punch. It's one of the few places that I can visit a few times through and the food is always consistent. Any time I swing by, I'm always in and out within a reasonable amount of time. Their burgers are awesome and always cooked perfectly. I tried their fish tacos the other day, and they were also really good. I also give a thumbs up to any place that gives me the option of waffle fries. Excellent burgers. They actually cook to order, and do it properly. Medium rare is delightfully pink, juicy, and delicious- none of this "all brugers cooked well" crap that plagues most burger places. The beef is very very good, not too dense or manhandled. A fluffy burger, if you will. They have a decent beer list- not stunning but it'll keep you happy. They have a decent wine list- not stunning but more than you would expect for burgers. They do, however, have something awesome- booze shake. Say it with me: booze shake. Pour booze... into shake. Perhaps the finest accompaniment to a cheeseburger in the universe. The bar is well stocked, plenty of vodkas for the trendy crowd. The setting is very clean, very modern, with an outdoor patio with piped in music. This is a place you can feel proud to take a date to without looking like a total tool. Conversely, if you're a Chili's kind of guy, this would be delightfully fancy to take your lovely lady. I've got nothing bad to say. It's burgers. Done very, very well for a change. There's a well-stocked bar. Beer. Wine if you're so inclined. Salads for the timid, a double-beef-fried-egg for the bold and uncaring, crab cakes for the eccentric. When and by whom are they taught that when serving a multi-course meal, each course should be served separately? While I was enjoying my appetizer, my main meal arrived. OK, you tell me what I should have done. Option 1: Stop eating my appetizer and start on the main meal, or Option 2: Let my main meal get cold while I finish my appetizer? The above were the only two options I was given. It's called a "3 course meal" for a reason! One course is finished BEFORE the next course is served. If I wanted everything served at the same time, I would have gone to McDonalds. Actually, after eating at the Burger Bar, the only thing missing was the paper bag. The burgers here are fantastic. In fact these are the best burgers I've ever had in Philly. My favorite is the bacon cheeseburger with Applewood smoked bacon, cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato and onion. The waffle fries are slammin'! You have to eat here. read more

Three of my friends and I ventured down the Boulevard on a chilly winter day in hope of warming up with some comfort food... And Burger Bar did not disappoint. Two of us got the Smokehouse Burger, Burger Bar's take on a barbecue burger, which was piled high with onion strips and smothered in melted cheddar cheese and barbecue sauce. The bun was a perfect vehicle for the delectable meat that traveled into my mouth and crashed into my taste buds, causing a fiery explosion of AWESOME. The four of us also ordered one plate of waffle fries (and American cheese, of course) and onion rings. The rings were fried to perfection, and, just a little cheat for more adventurous foodies, dipping the onion ring into the American cheese that comes with the waffle fries is not a bad idea. To top off my meal, I ordered a chocolate milkshake. Its perfect consistency and even better flavor gave it all the makings for one of the best shakes I've had in a long time. After reading all the great reviews on Burger Bar I was pretty excited to get food from here. Got two burgers and an order of onion rings to go, came home and chowed down. My food was warm and really it should have been hot given that I live 5 minutes away. The onion rings were good and came with ranch dressing. Burgers were big and juicy. I got mine cooked medium and it was cooked just right. Our other burger should have been medium rare but that was medium as well. Overall the food was pretty average and somewhat disappointing. I do appreciate the addition to gruyere cheese to the menu but don't see myself rushing back here. read more

The "hostess", a bored young girl who had no other duties it seemed than pouting while sitting on one of the ottoman's near the front door or walking us to a table. Waitress arrives, we place our order; onion rings, waffle fries with chili and cheese and Burger Bar Specials. Waitress is visible stressed as she has to get our silverware and napkins after she dropped off our apps. Hostess seats any new diner, at least 4 couples since we arrived, all in our area, further stressing the waitress. Perhaps if the hostess also made sure diners had their set-ups, she would act less bored and would cause less stress on what seemed to be the only waitress in the place. The menu states; Our Burgers are cooked Medium unless Otherwise Requested. So since we wanted them to be Medium, no further mention needed to be made. That was a shame since the burger arrived Medium Rare, a bit too pink for me, but the waitress never checked back with us, so we were stuck with the burger that even the chef couldn't get right. Disappointing because this is a Burger Bar, they should get this 1 thing right. The chili on the fries was just an awful, greasy, bean-y mess that could have been much better if it didn't come from a can. Onion rings were not very hot, more like they had been siting on a counter for 10 mins before brought to our table. Neither of the starters tasted appetizing and we left them mostly uneaten. A few blackboard specials, but you had to actually sit at the bar on a bar stool to get anything on that list. I actually saw 2 women have to move from their table to the bar, a foot away, just so they could order from the blackboard specials. Very odd that the "patio seating" on this rainy night was occupied by diners who just had to go outside for a smoke while waiting for their food that was delivered inside. I had to walk through this on my way in and way out. Gross. Don't think I'll go back or recommend to anyone, unless they want to go for some beers or a shot. read more
