There's music that's lively without being overbearing, and the staff is uniformly friendly. But... You have to order at the bar and, though they have runners to bring your food, you do have to hunt them down for anything after the delivery (extra ketchup, etc). While this isn't my favorite system at my age, to be fair, whatever the owners are saving on staff is reflected in the prices, which are absolutely below most places in the area for food that is good-quality and drinks that are generously poured. So yes, my wife's Espresso Martini was served in a deep-bellied Belgium beer glass, and my whiskey neat was a hefty pour. Yay!! For food, I ordered the Smash Burger, which is served with melted American, grilled onions and the house version of Russian dressing (as well as pickles, which I deleted). The burgers had a nice, smashed crust while remaining juicy, the cheese was properly melted, and the grilled onions had a terrific caramelized sweetness, while the house sauce was very well-balanced: ketchupy and creamy without being too mayonnaise-heavy. A very good smasher. My wife ordered the Big Texan Burger because she wanted cheddar and frizzled onions and BBQ sauce, though she deleted the bacon and pork belly that are normally included. This, too, was a very good burger: cooked to a proper and pleasing medium-rare and well-seasoned, with a good, fresh flavor to the beef. The onion rings were less successful, which are of the beer batter type, but seemed to be a commercial, frozen product. The coating was browned but not crisp, and the flavor was relatively nondescript. We didn't really eat them, and wouldn't order them again. And so, to me, The Tipsy Cow is a bit of a mixed bag: reasonably priced decent food and reasonably priced, generously-poured drinks -- but in a mostly self-serve environment that incrementally loses its appeal in relation to your age and your dining circumstances. Certainly worth a try, but you've gotta be in the right mood.

While we were already in line paying for our order, the owner or manager approached us and informed us that outside food and drinks were not allowed because the restaurant is kosher. Although he said he would make an exception this one time, he approached us again while we were waiting outside for our food. We had chosen to sit outside because the restaurant was crowded, loud, and stuffy inside. Despite us not causing any issues, he again insisted that the smoothie could not be on the premises and began explaining that his license could be suspended due to association rules. We politely told him it wasn't a problem and decided to take our food to go. I understand businesses have policies, but the way the situation was handled felt unnecessarily confrontational, especially considering the drink was for a toddler and we had already spent nearly $70 at the restaurant. Between the mediocre food, high prices, and rude customer service, I would not return. There are plenty of better dining options in the area.

It's definitely stylish, classy with a mix of intimacy; there's some good energy here. The square shaped bar is stylish with marbled counter and chair stool seating; there's a couple TVs within view sitting in this section. There's also the main dining room as well as a partially covered patio. Good music. I've sat in the bar as well as the main dining room and find them both enjoyable. Service: Service has always been great the times I have been with everyone being professional, friendly and addressing needs easily from ownership, management, and all staff members. Food: A good mix of starters, fresh seafood, salads, steaks of course, various side dishes, and some other entrees. A few of my favorites include the wagyu meatball steak tartare jumbo shrimp cocktail chopped salad 6 oz petit filet 32 oz porterhouse mashed potato mac & cheese The steaks I've ordered have been cooked well to my liking and the meats have always been tender and seasoned well. The wagyu meatball is very tender with good flavor, the vodka sauce is not overpowering. Love the chopped salad with the red wine vinaigrette and the crunch from the crispy chickpeas. Mashed potatoes are creamy and very good. The jumbo shrimp cocktail is great and comes with three shrimps served with lemon, mustard aioli and cocktail sauce. Drinks: Great classic and off-menu cocktails, a couple beers, a couple non-alcoholic cocktails/mocktails, champagne and a wonderfully curated wine list. I prefer tequila over gin and this helped prove my palate was correct) Dessert wise, you can't go wrong with the butter cake. We also tried the chocolate cake. According to my guest, the weekend makes it almost impossible to get in as it is do crowded. I had a 12 " Neapolitan pizza with chopped up sausage, green peppers and red onions. I enhanced the wood fired oven pizza with Parmigiana cheese, fresh crushed garlic, oregano and crushed red pepper. As far as taste, it was ok. Point of reference, being from New York City, I love thick crust pizza not the thin stuff I get around in SoCal. If I was in the neighborhood, I probably would return but there are lots of choices in the San Fernando Valley to choose from.

Here's the updated review: She Wrote Burger -- A Smash Hit, But Bring Your Patience She Wrote Burger knows how to make a burger. Getting it in your hands, however, is another story. We ordered a double and single smash burger with a large fries and waited over 50 minutes -- in person, at the counter. The frustrating part wasn't just the wait itself, but watching order after order go out to delivery and online customers while those of us standing right there kept getting passed over. It's a system that clearly prioritizes the app over the person in front of you. When the food finally arrived, it was hard to stay annoyed for long. The smash patties had that gorgeous lacy, crispy lattice around the edges -- the kind you only get from a proper hard smash on a screaming hot griddle. The seasoning was spot on, and the classic combination of ketchup, mustard, and mayo worked perfectly. Interestingly, they don't put their own house sauce on the burger by default -- a bit surprising given how good it is -- but honestly, it didn't need it. The fries were crispy and well-seasoned, and the ranch was genuinely great. One minor gripe: the bun felt a little small for the patty, which made for a messy but delicious eat. At $14 for a double, it's on the pricier side for a smash burger, especially when it doesn't come with fries. You're paying for quality, and the flavor is there -- but factor in sides and drinks and the bill adds up quickly for what is essentially a casual counter-service spot. The food earns a solid 5/5. So stoked to welcome Burger She Wrote to Sherman Oaks. I recently moved to this neighborhood and couldn't be more excited to have the best smash burgers in LA on Ventura Blvd. There was parking available right up front and the service was faster than expected. I got the Double Oklahoma Wagyu Smash Burger and my friend got a single Wagyu Smash Burger and we split the Wagyu Fancy Fries. I had never had the fancy fries before and that's going to be a hard one to skip. Oh I also asked to add BBQ sauce and banana peppers to my burger. I'll be doing that hack every time now. Everything was cooked to perfection. Love the King's Hawaiian buns of course. The crispy edges of the smashed wagyu is about the best thing I could ever have. First Mexican Coke in a while too. Unfortunately, this was a disappointing experience. The prices are quite high for the quality of food received and portions. The burger was smashed so thin that it was dry and lacked any juiciness or flavor. The fries arrived cold and tasted stale, as if they had been sitting out for a while. What makes the experience even more frustrating is the lack of response to customer concerns. It seems that the manager is quick to reply to positive reviews, but when customers leave feedback about actual issues, those reviews go unacknowledged. That gives the impression that criticism is being ignored rather than addressed. read more

There's a burst of flavor in there that I genuinely can't explain -- whoever's back there cooking needs a statue erected in their honor. Absolutely epic. The beef tallow tater tots are the perfect sidekick -- crispy, rich, exactly what you want alongside that sandwich. Don't sleep on the banana pudding either. It's on a whole 'nother level of delicious. On top of the food, the two guys working the booth were outgoing, friendly, and clearly happy to be there. You can tell this crew puts genuine love and care into every meal they serve -- that's what makes a pop-up special. Only complaint: I wish they had a location in Arcadia so I didn't have to travel for it. Until then, I'll keep coming back. Highly recommend.

I'll go one by one as I really didn't skimp on any of it..... First off, the brisket was so tender I couldn't even get it on to my plate originally. Now we decided to go a different location on the farm pay tribute to some smoked chicken. I had to dabble with both the BBQ sauce and the horseradish sauce as my dipping/smothering choices for this tasty bird. Couldn't even tell you how great it was without the sauce, since my mind was already fading trying to fight off my meat sweat coma. Lastly for our protein portion of the evening, I had to top it off with some of that pulled pork. Now this was extremely flavorful and some of the best I've had in quite some time. I did however enjoy lathering it up with that BBQ sauce like some of his fellow plate mates I already devoured. I will give a shout out to the sides, even though I only had a brief taste of each as I was going hard on the proteins. High fives to the potato salad, coleslaw, Mac and cheese, street corn, corn bread, tator tots and collard greens. I may have possibly missed one or 2, but after gorging on disgusting amounts of food, you tend to forget things. It was a lot with those potatoes, and even my husband who's a thin guy said one of those tacos would have been sufficient (and he could have helped me with mine...haha). We were just in the area visiting our kids, we come down frequently from NorCal, so we will definitely hit up this place again now that we've found it in the near future. So good and super relaxed and easy.
