Still will never ever recommend this place to anyone. Born and raised in the valley, this place is trash. You either die a hero or become the villain. This place is the villain, serving old stale IPAs. This should be a crime. Look at the Menu this restaurant had 10 years ago, you're less than a shadow of what you were ever. We came here specifically for the Philly cheesesteak after seeing it on the menu, and it was definitely worth it. Just a heads-up--it's only available after 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 11:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday through Sunday. The cheesesteak was so good. The sesame roll was soft on the inside with just the right amount of crunch on the outside. The shaved ribeye was tender, well-seasoned, and full of flavor, and the grilled onions mixed perfectly with the meat. We also ordered the oak-grilled Caesar salad, which was just as good. The dressing was creamy without being too heavy, and the grilled romaine added a nice smoky flavor that made it stand out from a regular Caesar salad. The service was great, too. Hands down the BEST bbq I've had in LA. Such a vibe inside, super pub style but the decor is so intentional! The kpop ribs should definitely make its way to your table. Okay, the service here is top notch, from when I walked in, greeted by a smiling face, friendly, engaging, to our server who was super sweet, gave her recommendations and treated us like we were the only ones in the restaurant. Music was pumping and place was clean, kind of busy, and I did make reservations online. Okay, now to the food... I so wanted to love their BBQ, but it just missed the target by a smidge. We got the following, three way tray, fried mac & cheese, potato salad, deviled eggs, KPOP sticky ribs, and smoked brisket Dan Dan noodles. I will say the star of the show has to be the KPOP sticky ribs but everything else was not memorable and as I type, nothing is sticking out and making me drool and go WOW, I need to have that dish again!! Spoiler Alert! Boneyard Bistro is now the best place in Sherman Oaks to get pizza. You may think I'm crazy, but it's true. This longstanding BBQ stop on Ventura, with fantastic Q and a bunch of recently-added creative dishes like Brisket Dan Dan Noodles and Shawarma-Spiced Salmon, is also baking pizza at a level of quality and taste that most full-blown pizza places never achieve. I've been eyeing Boneyard's pizza for a while. When I first saw it on the menu I thought it was a gimmick. Then, I saw other people ordering various pies, and they all looked fantastic. So, last night I popped in by myself, sat the bar and ordered the House Made Spicy Fennel Sausage Pizza -- and let me tell you, this is NOT a gimmick of any kind. The crust is born of an expertly made dough that's clearly given time to rise and rest before being drafted for service. As such, the crust arrives crispy on the outside, airy and light inside, and sturdy enough to hold the other components. This is huge, because so many places taking pride in serving traditional Neopolitan Pizza deliver pies with charred crusts that turn to disintegrated soup in the center. Not here. With that solid base set, the layer of smoky tomato sauce makes its presence known but remains a foundation, supporting the very flavorful smoked mozzarella without adding too much acid or sweet. By the way, that smoked mozz gives off tons of flavor and also offers a very satisfying chew. The titular Spicy Fennel Sausage boasts a terrific, herbaceous flavor of its own, but isn't really all that spicy. There's a little heat to it, but it's perfectly balanced with everything else -- so if the word "spicy" normally scares you, you have no reason to be afraid. What you DO have is every reason in the world to eat this pizza. The 12" pie is hearty and filling. Plenty for 2 people to share, or for a single to take some home (as I did) -- but I wouldn't give you the side-eye if you ate it all by yourself, because YOLO. And since YOLO, I suggest you eschew the rest of the local pizza purveyors, order up a pie at Boneyard, and see what all my shouting's about. I would walk to the grocery store unattended to purchase ingredients, I created marinades, baked desserts from scratch and endlessly scoured old cookbooks for hours on end. I even briefly entertained the idea of going to cooking school. Although cooking is still a hobby; I didn't make it my life's profession. Do you want to know who had the same early cooking obsession and DID make it his life? Owner and Chef Aaron Robins of Boneyard Bistro in the Sherman Oaks neighborhood of Los Angeles. Valley Boy Aaron Robins was born and raised in Encino and started his cooking adventure around the same age as I but focusing on smoking and drying meat making homemade jerky. BBQ was his passion and Robins went on to train with top BBQ, fire cooking and international chefs before opening Boneyard Bistro in 2005 (and it is still around which is quite a feat with the fast turn-over in Sherman Oaks). Robins also regularly donates his time and cooking to charities and food banks. What a standup guy! So, let's explore Boneyard Bistro... Boneyard Bistro resides on Ventura near the Ventura Canyon intersection looking quite inconspicuous upon street-view appearances. In fact, my boyfriend and I weren't even sure it was open under the bright 5pm sun because it looked so dark and sleepy - thankfully it was! Focusing on international and American BBQ flavors with other elevated dishes and gastronomical cocktails; Boneyard Bistro offers an ambiance of a trendy but not pretentious gastropub with a bar, dining room, lots of black paint, and skull gothic flair. It has a sort of rock-n-roll edge to it making it a la Silver Lake- type vibe but in the Valley. I had a terrible day in route to Boneyard Bistro so I started the evening with a Cactus Cooler cocktail (tequila, pricky pear, agave, lime - $12) in an attempt to regain some chill. We happened to visit during Happy Hour (M-F 4:30 - 6pm) and everything on both the Happy Hour and regular menu sounded delicious but made our choices of the Smokin Deviled Egg app (bacon, smoked jalapenos, spicy gastrique - $12 HH price), Kpop Krunchy Sticky Ribs (smoked and fried baby back ribs, sesame slaw, Asian BBQ sauce - $17 HH price), Grilled Chicken Pot Pie for my boyfriend (puff pastry, carrots, celery, peas and house smoked chicken - $29) and New Classic Salad for me (tri-color salad, cherry tomatoes, red onion, smoked mozzarella, cucumber. House red wine vinaigrette - $17). I barely know where to begin with the food because everything was "screaming from the rooftops" amazing from the plating to flavors. First of all, my Cactus Cooler may have sounded basic on the menu; but what appeared before me was the prettiest pink margarita -esque cocktail that was strong but fruity and delicious. It was an EXCELLENT cocktail that elevated simplicity. I could have had several more! The Deviled eggs had a smoky flair and even though I am NOT a bacon fan; found them to be quite tasty. The Kpop Krunchy Sticky Ribs were artfully plated and absolute perfection: delicious smoked meat under a sweet (but not too sweet!) sauce with a spicy kick. My New Classic Salad was just a salad. KIDDING! Boneyard Bistro even makes amazing salads that somehow kicked it up a notch and the vinaigrette is divine! Although everything was wonderful; the star of the show was the pot pie (seasonal in cold weather months only and we happened to catch it on its way out!). Poor Marie Callender would be weeping into her apron had she tasted Boneyard's pot pie. Flaky puff pastry covering a flavorful filling that is heavy on the chicken but not cubed white dry chicken: smoked rotisserie style chicken in the best white gravy known to man. It was heaven on a plate. Boneyard's customer service also excels with our experience with our waiter Brian who was a pure joy: knowledgeable, entertaining, 'cool' and felt like we were just hanging out with a friend. Boneyard Bistro failed to deliver the tasty BBQ that I was in the mood for last night. I ordered a combo of tri-tip and beef ribs with a side of slaw. Ribs were dry, tiny and lacked a decent amount of meat. Tri-tip was just OK. Coleslaw was soggy, warm and tasted bad. Hate to say it, but Woodranch puts this place on a second or third tier. I've been here a few times but this visit was a little disappointing. I understand the hype behind their feature on Food Network back in Sept 2025 but it fell flat from the experience and food itself. This review is purely based on a lunch experience. Food 3/5 NOT based on their brisket or smoked meats - Cubano pork sandwich was extremely oily, not flavorful and simply had too much bread = PASS - GARLIC BRUSSELS SPROUTS = PASS, approx less than a 1 CUP of sprouts for almost $20 and the bottom was drenched in sauce and soggy - SMOKED WINGS = PASS, zero flavor Ambience 4/5 Clean, open ambience with zero issues throughout the restaurant then again it was completely empty. Service 3/5 The server felt unenthusiastic and didn't seem like she authentically cared. Aaron (owner) walked by us several times without a smile or care in the world. Stopped by Boneyard Bistro to try a few things and had a mixed but generally decent experience. We really enjoyed the chips -- simple but solid. The fried mac and cheese was also good, though we definitely prefer the side dish version over the spicy appetizer; the side felt more balanced and enjoyable. The pizza was pretty standard, nothing bad but nothing memorable either. Meat-wise, the lean brisket was just okay, a bit underwhelming, but the tri-tip was pretty good and probably the highlight of the meal. Overall, it wasn't a bad visit. We might come back, but we're just as likely to try something new in the area next time. read more

The food wasn't bad, but it also didn't really stand out. I ordered the grilled cheese sandwich with brisket. The sandwich itself was good and satisfying, but unfortunately the sides were pretty underwhelming and lacked flavor. Service was a mixed experience. Our waitress was very nice once she came over, but we did sit at the table for a solid 15-20 minutes before she initially took our order, which definitely took away from the overall experience. Overall, it wasn't terrible, but it wasn't memorable either. With so many BBQ spots in the Valley that offer more flavor for a lower price, I'd probably choose to go elsewhere next time. read more

Had the brisket with a corn cob and some of the best coleslaw I've ever had. Coleslaw is not washed out with mayo. It's crisp and has a bright taste. Brisket is delicious. Happy Hour at Bone Yard Bistro was not particularly Happy at least at 4:30pm on Sunday, May 26, 2024. Sorry for the forgotten, late posting. 1) Their Crispy Onion Rings were so overfried that they were charred. It tasted bitter from being burnt. So overfried that it toughened the onions into scaly leather.  I almost never ask for something to be taken back to the kitchen, but these rings were unedible.  Our waitress graciously took them back and took it off our order.  2) Tex Mex Rolled Brisket Tacos/Taquitos:   Presentation was pleasant with 3 Taquitos with a side of creamy, perfectly ripe avocado, little salad of iceberg lettuce, diced tomato, touch of mild cilantro. Mild Red Chile Salsa was fermented for pickled, more funky flavours.   However, the rolled corn tortillas filled with brisket was again over fried making the tortillas overly dark and taking away the sweetness in the tortillas as well as making the brisket exposed at the ends of the roll to be frizzled & extra dried out.  I was so disappointed from the burnt Onion Rings that when I saw another overfried food item, I forgot to take a complete photo of these overfried Taquitos when it arrived.  Only blessing was these Taquitos weren't as burnt as the Onion Rings so we toughed it out and ate them. The fry chef definitely must have had a bad day to create such disastrous fried dishes.  3) Frito Pie Frito Scoops, Boneyard Brisket Chili, Texas Queso made from American Cheese Fondue, Tomatoes, Onions, pickled Jalapenos. Big wide, curved Fritos corn chips to scoop up this satisfying concoction. Thank goodness the Fritos were already fried at the factory.  The melted American cheese became a goopy sauce with a piquant touch that mated the other ingredients to make a loose casserole like large appetizer.  1-3a) Reissdorf Kölsch: Lighter beer with good body, slightly toasty sweet, bit of acidity to clear the palate.  Happy Hour prices where draught beer & wines by the glass are 25% off along with discounts on well drinks at $6 make for a good deal. Place is very hang loose, airy, rustic. We sat in front with wide windows that open up to the street.  Our kind, thoughtful waitress, who was wearing a black mask, was the saving factor in placating us on the burnt overfried foods so that I would give a 3 stars to Bone Yard due to her due diligence. But the fried foods on that day were actually closer to one star. read more

My visit was a little disappointing. I actually was going to another restaurant and I told my GF because I enjoyed the food when I first visited I expected the food to be good or better. Ambiance-Good. It was not busy. Service-Brian our waiter was very helpful. Food- Not hot, old and dry looking. 1. The 3 meat plate all of the food came cold. 2. Pizza was okay. Nothing exciting 3. Chips was perfect. Just too little for $6.00. I sent the food back and they sent back the same food just a pinch warmer. This cost me $106.00. I would like to visit again on your tab. I can't believe I haven't been here sooner! I have been hearing about them from friends and always had them on my list to visit. I tried the Korean sticky ribs. Very good sweet sticky ribs!! Deviled eggs were def the best I had. I thought I made it best but theirs was perfect. Grilled Caesar salad was the perfect crunch while being perfectly dressed. They seem to make their own Caesar dressing! And my friend's recommendation: the Kobe Mac. Their take on the bigmac. Perfectly made, the buns were perfectly moist unlike the ones mcd serve these days. Their pizza were also great. I'm a ranch person so next time I will ask for more ranch to dip everything in because they also have the best ranch I've had. I really enjoyed Boneyard Bistro. I found the service to be very warm, inviting and friendly from the hostess to the servers. The food was excellent. Their Australian Wagyu burgers are amazing, the K-Pop ribs were insane and filled with texture and flavor. Shrimp tacos were next level. Ambiance was really nice. Nothing upscale but very comfy, perfect lighting, and I will definitely be back. I'm knocking 1 star off cause we were told by them over the phone that happy hour ended at 630 and when we got there at 6, learned it actually ended at 530 or 6. I forget which. We've been coming to this place for years. Unfortunately I think this is the last time. Brisket and tri-tip were cold and flavorless. Tasted like roast beef not bbq. Small portion. Thinly sliced... my wife and I were confused. Brisket was dry, how do you have dry brisket??? I literally pass by this place everyday for years, smelling all their delicious food. So my co workers and I decided for New Year's Eve we would try it out. We were instantly greeted and shown our seats. The Ambiance is your stereotypical steakhouse joint. The food was amazing.... Smoked Ribs, Texas Smoked Beef Brisket, Fried mac n cheese, and even their pizza was amazing. The food is on the pricey side, but definitely worth it. I'll return sometime soon. read more

Man, I remember loving this spot years ago. I don't know what happened but it's a total letdown. We paid over $100 for two plates and both had hardly any food on them. We ate a late night snack because we were still hungry. The quality of the food has also gone downhill but to be fair, that's a reality for many businesses post Covid. Used to come here a lot pre-COVID and decided to try it again when we had a post-pickleball BBQ craving instead of driving to our usual (Bludso's). We ordered the pulled pork sandwich and a half-rack of the baby back ribs (both with baked beans). The ribs were the highlight - they were dry-rub style and were lean. Unfortunately, the pulled pork sandwich lacked flavor and was a bit dried out. In addition, both of our sides of beans were lukewarm.
