I'm a sucker for a good, authentic restaurant, and having Dominican food in Little DR just felt like the right move. We went on Good Friday, so a few places were closed, but this spot was open--and it was buzzing. Outdoor tables were set up, and it was clear this is a local favorite. Everyone seemed to know each other, and watching their warm interactions added such a sweet, homey vibe that made us feel right at ease. We were the only non-Spanish speakers there, and even though we couldn't understand much of the chatter around us, we still felt completely welcomed--like we belonged. I was doing a clinical rotation for work in this neighborhood where many of the staff members ordered their meals from Burgos Restaurant. I had lived in Inwood for over a year and sadly never knew how amazing this place is. I only got to order their Sancocho (Dominican Soup) two days in a row which comes with a side of rice as well as tried their passionfruit juice. I have to say that their Sancocho is the best I've tried since I moved to The City over four years ago. The ladies behind the counter were very friendly and warm. I was craving Mangu with queso frito so I stopped by this restaurant with a friend. They told me they would accommodate my request if I wouldn't mind the wait. They are following COVID requirements with only outdoor dining and customers having the wear a mask. Some servers however, had their masks below their nose or would completely lower it to talk to customers which defeats the purpose. I also took off a star because aside from my wait for food, my friend had to wait over 10 minutes for the cup of water she had asked for and the waitress wasn't very attentive or friendly. The food was really good, my friend ordered a chicken sandwich which she liked and I practically inhaled my Mangu. The Burgos our waitress made my eating in the Bronx a non painful experience. I simply ordered a steak sandwich and it came out the way I asked for it to be plus the ham sandwich I ordered came out well because they have a $10 card minimum so my second item looks like a wise choice. The food was awesome, the service so Dominican yet very customer focused, a refreshing difference. The ladies felt like they were family feeding me and were always honest about food choices. The interior is so nice since they renovated. There's lots of space to sit and eat in, which is exactly what we did. We came for an early breakfast (about 7:30am) and ordered a smorgasbord of food. Yucca, queso frito, salami, avena, and these eggs that were scrambled with some cured herring or some other fish. Not sure what it was called... But it was scrumptious! Everything was hot and fresh and the coffee was strong. The service was very friendly, although it would be beneficial to know some Spanish when you come here.
